glaswegian techno stalwart edit select presents the thirtieth effort in his edit select records series. “aftereffekts” is a 4 track release that opens with the thumping “the visitor”, this track combines puzzling percussive movements with otherwordly pads which subtly build to a hypnotic climax.
“fallen” is a broad sounding cut with an almost orchestral touch to it. the uncanny drum patterns and repetative fx make for a solid voyage. “aftereffect” is a percussion laden cut with soul touching strings that float throughout. “you” is a melancholic piece of art that incorporates heavenly pads with beautifully orchestrated rhodes sounds and a hypnotic drumtrack.

after the success of the broad and powerful second lp alone in time?, Ø phase continues his ongoing connection to token with the submerged metropolitan ep. the title track enters with burchett s own brand of unease, the lead is tense and discordant, moving over a bumpy, rolling kick. brushing off-beat hats rush overhead and play delicately with this unease above the thunder. a vague spoken word sample adds texture and contributes to the cerebral edge. ethereal swells and intense rhythmic play introduce fallen columns, which delves into atonality with keys that add a controlled recklessness to the composition. this absent mind takes on a hypnotic, dubby form with a confidence that belies its complexity. a sublime breakdown introduces the heavier second half of the track, which enters impressively and batters on to the end.

debut release on the new kaleidoscope jazz chair reissues label. first release contains some beautiful and well crafted dubbed out techno by kit clayton with his 1998 deadlock tune originally released as the b2 on the 4-track unreliable networks ep (on silent servant s label cytrax ), it slipped under many a record buyer s radar. nearly 20 years later, now that electronic musical tastes have matured and expanded, the time seemed right to re-present, this lush, atmospheric, percussive work out to the heads, deservedly pressed on a full side of 12- vinyl. pussy clap was originally released on the remote label, set up by charles webster, and featured house music predominantly written by charles and neil tolliday, better known as nail. jorge felucca was the alias that neil used when creating the more dubbed out, techy tracks for the label. sounding somewhat like a deep house take on maurizio, pussy clap was also released in 98, but had since fallen into obscurity, and the time had come for it to be rejuvenated and polished with an amazing remaster by pole for the modern ear that is a dramatic improvement on the original

the second of this year’s smd singles on their own delicacies label is features another two original tracks, leading with the hypnotic, late night techno loping of “remember in reverse”, drenched in glistening synths. the second track, “soft attack” takes a much more direct approach, with a brash battering of crash cymbals on every 4th bar marking time as a sinuous synth melody curls around the rhythmatic trunk. “soft attack (drum version)” pares it down even further, excising the melody for a minimal dj tool. also included here is a remix of ‘remember in reverse” from 90s mid west techno legend, dj hyperactive, who we’re super excited to have on this release. he extensive 11 minute rework transforms the track, sprinkling it with subtle doses of acid. after a short hiatus following their modular-only, desert recorded last album “whorl”, during which smd s james ford found himself on production duties for everyone and their dog, smd are back with bunch of techno cuts on their own delicacies label. over a couple of months in jas shaw s newly re-located synth-dense studio in leafy kent, which saw smd once again experiment with live jams as the basis for their production, they’ve pulled together a selection of eight tracks for release as a series of four singles over the coming months. smd fans will note that the earlier naming convention of delicacies has fallen by the wayside – for the simple reason that we’ve pretty much run out of weird and wonderful food stuffs to steal names from. instead, a semi-random automated process has been used to create the track names.

thunder tillman is a cosmic vagabond who travels through space and time accompanied by his personal shaman. together, as if having fallen to earth, their mission is to recreate the music of their estranged home, reuniting with their brothers and sisters through an exquisite form of storytelling. while western music may have degenerated over the past 65 years, troopers such as thunder tillman continue to drill down toward an elusive core, searching for something holy while never bastardizing their art with insincere advents of technology or convenience—as is apparent throughout their immaculate analogue production on this esp institute debut, jaguar mirror. comparisons to genres like krautrock are predictable, however we feel these four songs are so heavily narrative and wildly visceral that attempting to categorize the music would be a disservice to your imagination. we implore you to lay back in a nice stereo environment and absorb the purity of thunder tillmans endeavor—appreciate their command of melody, composition, spectrum, magic and try to recall the last time you chanced upon something truly different

in 2007, renowned french producer julien jabre tracked down the american gospel singer phyliss mckoy joubert on myspace. joubert was already a cult figure for house aficionados thanks to -stand on the word-, a song she wrote and performed with her -celestial choir- in 1982 that became a staple of the club scene in new york. it resurfaced as a mysterious bootleg in 2000. julien, who d fallen in love with the song, was eager to remix and officialy rerelease it. when he finally reached out to phyliss, she explained the multitrack tape had been lost. the only thing to do was rerecording it-along with 10 other tracks. today on french label elias, julien and the joubert singers are releasing -stand on the word- in its original and unique 1982 version (mistakenly named after larry levan) and 3 brand new mixes including a fresh dimitri from paris remix. that s how the good lord works!

this is the second episode of our various artists serie. the fallen (a collaboration between plural (james johnson) and fbk (kevin kennedy)) opens the e.p. with interference, a fast paced killer hypnotic dance floor friendly dub track: they create a sound that is unique, fluid and extremely danceable. philippe petit follows with exposed, a stripped down, bleepy bass-heavy rhythmic piece of techno. julixo brings us own structure, an aggressive jackin techno track leading to a warm synth line that will leave nobody indifferent. terrence dixon closes the e.p. with odd numbers, a track that only him can do. sub bass melodic techno reduced to the max: ace!

for our 50th release on delusions of grandeur we’re pleased to bring you seven exclusive tracks from a mighty-fine collection of both existing dog artists and veritable newcomers alike. kicking off part one we have rush hour regular nebraska who manages to successfully combine elements of wait for it... trance and broken beat into an altogether more exciting and amazing way than that actually sounds on paper. organic, sampled drums with plenty of grit and dirt lay down a groove whilst spacey synth arps and an almighty break (in a subtle way) make this something of an epic which all of us here have fallen for in a big way.

dietrich schoenemann is a longtime sort after mastering engineer and one of the new yorks early techno producers as prototype 909 amongst many other projects we are very proud and pleased to have dietrich on board now as with this badass ep taken from dats from his 90s archives!

superb throwback electro sounds of the early noughties on offer here from swiss artist elektrobopacheck, debuting via his self affirming synthesizer music laboratory. this is quite reminiscent of stuff on vitalic s seminal citizen records imprint a while back. highlights being atlantic intertravel and kubusmann calculates which sound similar to the majestic modular tones of japanese telecom or the late night electro funk groove of ride on the waves. sure, he s not trying to re invent the wheel here, but it s all good!

rfsplit is a new series, a collaboration between crf and a guest label with two different artists. for the first release, we choose clft, the french label based in lyon.on the a side we ask birth of frequency to do two tracks, the scar and the fink, two hypnotic and abstract tunes, with a dry and claustrophobic atmosphere.clft choose 2030 on the b side with life’s lake and fallen-in, very detroit influenced with light pads and melodies.

null+void recordings launches with a new release from london based producer shinra neatly following on from his contribution to balkan vinyls mutant city acid compilation earlier this year. here he presents a four track ep of space age, acid laced and rephlex resonating electro. a music blog for five years and radio show for eighteen months starting out on rinse fm in 2014 and now monthly resident on leeds kmah radio, null+void has been a space that gives platform to techno, electro and experimental electronic sounds. early dj support from fabric resident craig richards and dont and super rhythm trax boss jerome hill.

up and coming producer, odd/even label boss and close stockholm ltd affiliate andre kronert arrives on figure with an astounding 3 track ep, completed by a deadly len faki dub. kronert has risen through the ranks yet stayed true to his reduced, warm and powerful sound strategy. the opening track g.i.a.n.t makes for a wonderfully tense opener, with its expansive dark sound design and deep dub kick arriving around the half-way point. this is countersigned then by two more energetic tracks in the shape of the throne room and fallen space, both pivoting over a fulcrum of classic synth hooks and carefully honed percussion. len faki takes the throne room into a different mental zone, with his almost tropical dub version, ensnaring a freaky pitched motif to accent and build upon andre s powerful original elements. classic reduction, and an ep of classic figure contemporary techno.

jack cutter is a songwriter and guitarist based in the san francisco bay area in california. he started with a $5 banjo just after finishing high school. in university, during the late 60’s, he performed with bar bands in buffalo, new york. after completing university and a year as an aerospace engineer, he decided that attack helicopters were not really what the world needed and so he headed off to california in pursuit of music and mystic times. fast forward to fall 2014: jack is playing his quintessential tune, ‘gift of our fathers’ in the sf bart subway to an onslaught of morning commuters when he was spotted by 40 thieves. eureka! love at first sight and in the next few months, two of jack’s original acoustic pieces were given the 40 thieves treatment. enter david sanderson aka david harks, a singer, songwriter, producer and label curator from the east sussex region of the uk. ‘having fallen in love with the cosmic boogie (of 40 thieves classic ‘backward love’) i really felt i would love nothing more than to write a tune with them. layne got back in touch with a track he was working on entitled serpent strut with jack cutter and we worked via email over a few months to brew up that misty soul.’ deep, stony, psychedelic, drawing from the well of hawkwind, joni mitchell, david crosby, baffo banfi and tolkien-tinged acoustic led zep, the proof of concept is now complete and in the capable and loving hands of claremont 56.

in this second acid act, the artists xerosorex and sour, lead us in one of the place that much have characterized the scene of the freeparty: the abandoned plant. in this foundry, between production waste, tangled sheets and shrubs risen between cement, theatmosphere is dark and enthralling. night has fallen for a long and strobe slow down even more movements, but the groove is pressing and acid lines steal minds.

now entering its seventh year, dutch label field records continues to focus on great album projects. after a triple 12- compilation in 2014, and ahead of a third album in the coming months, now comes a 12 track opus, in the wake of the dark earth, by d.a.r.f.d.h.s. aka swedish pair michel isorinne and jonas ronnberg.

sync 24 aka phil bolland is taking a break from his cultivated electronics label to get some well deserved binary treatment. starting out on andrea parker’s uk electro imprint touchin’ bass, phil has consistently produced electro of the highest caliber, be it his solo efforts or remixes for morphology and exaltics to name a few. twilight zones - 4 tracks of raw electro with an experimental approach, pushing the genre into what can only be described as ice cold circuit bent funk.

aanbreken is a musical duo, comprised of producer tim aminov and singer gala ga, who after 10 years of musical exploration decided to join forces in 2013. now, over a year later, they are set to release their debut ep, verge.

a twenty year break away from making music is almost unheard of especially within electronic music circles, but that is where antenna happy finds himself with pinto. clocking in at 9.09 pinto draws from psychedelia and techno set straight for the sun. this kaleidoscopic sonic excursion has all the makings of a cult classic, and heads up the debut 12- release on newly founded imprint reinhardt records. taking lead on the b-side an entirely different affair in the shape of fallen. this is benchmark electronic music, as arpeggiators take flight mirrored against hypnotic acid bass, for a journey into the outer house territories. closing the ep, spark holds the reigns. conceived within the same stretch as pinto, however it wasn t until some months later that spark took on its full form. emotive modular synths lay the groundwork, connecting the dots between low-slung techno and house music, culminating in a track that sits in neither genre camp. spark will appear on the digital release only. the ep title track takes its name and inspiration from paintings by antenna happy s three-year-old daughter, whose birth inspired him to return to making music. close-ups of these paintings can be seen in the artwork for the release.

the second of two remix eps for max coopers debut album human - this one bringing one of the albums most talked about tracks impacts for the first time, with an acid rework by pitchfork favourites factory floor and percs insane, obtuse and uncompromising abstract version. this is also the first release of harvey mckays version of an earlier max track, von der klippe fallen - one long grinding techno beat that opens to the dramatic piano of frequent maxs collaborator tom hodge.

this holographic release was inspired by black hole thermodynamics. in the case of omni, the insight was that the sound content of all fallen objects might be contained in surface fluctuations of the event horizon. siren to siren is microscopically random, like a hot gas. a known configuration of classic tape sounds has zero entropy: there is nothing random about binary configurations. if one throws a hot gas with entropy into the g count, the entropy would disappear - producing aggressive bandwidths, and ragga baselines.
