(a nod to supertramp s crisis? what crisis?) is one of those albums. its silken-smooth production, irresistible grooves, funk-tinged guitars, lush soundscapes and general glowing presence could easily lead one to believe that have dug up a lost disco gem from the 1970s. however, behind the disco-pop gleam lies eerie dystopian sci-fi ruminations of a futuristic bent and tones that can often feel as french as they do asian or african. this sort of cross-continental exploration is an expansion on bvo s previous two eps, the man behind the organisation, adrien durand, says. -i tried to continue the musical expedition between dystopian science-fiction haunted africa - plus haitian vaudou on -soleil dieu- - and futuristic asia. addressing, in a double entendre manner, some of the political issues that i am sensitive to.- in fact the jungle in question in the album s title is a metaphorical one and one that creates a vast series of environments for durand to explore such subjects as world trade, utopian ideals and themes of idols, as well as of time and communication. however, one will need to speak french to decipher such explorations, as well as shake off the natural impulse to move with every glorious beat on its 13 tracks, of which are moved along by maud nadal and agathe bonitzer s golden vocals.

sterns edits returns after the sell-out success of its debut edition with another two catalogue reworks from ben gomori. this time he turns his attention to burkina faso s much-loved taxi-driver-turned-singer, amadou balaké. balaké ( porcupine in mandinka) is burkina faso s proudest musical export, and in 2013 he recorded his final album before passing away: in conclusion. the record saw him revisit some of his most popular tracks from his remarkable 50-year career, backed by an eight-piece burkinabé band who took the country s traditional sounds and brought them into a contemporary light. gomori retains the essence of the original recordings which were mostly captured in one take and marries them to vigorous afro-house stylings. bar konon mousso (musicien c est pas quelqu un) in which balaké tells of a bar lady being unimpressed by his profession, gets a gentle push towards the modern dancefloor, its wonderful sax lines resplendent. massa kamba is taken for a drive down the more traditional route, with commanding drums bolstering the original grooves and a marvelous triple harmony brass section at its core. balakes freewheeling style suits the hypnotic feel of the edits to a tee. sterns edits is an official collaboration between african music stalwarts sterns music and london s ben gomori.

new york city based further reductions is the live project from husband and wife shawn (aka vapauteen, 400ppm, let er est) and katie o sullivan (aka rose e kross, ppg). back in 2014 they released their gorgeous debut album on cititrax records. the album was an adventurous trip, where they pushed forward a unique sound. after all those years there will be a follow up to this ep on knekelhuis. expect a fusion of different sounds, grimy and pretty at the same time.

house music broke through in 1987, at the same time when aids arrived in france with the first contamination peak in gay and drug addict circles. in 1989, the founders of act-up paris knew that both the fight against aids and triumphant house music should be joined together. from 1992 to 1995, the period covered by “120 bpm-, house reached its most beautiful plateau even though techno was becoming dominant. “120 bpm” is a get-together moment through clubbing, this moment where fears are forgotten by dancing with one’s friends, what we called “the chosen family” at act-up. boys and girls dancing in a club where the walls cannot be seen, flooded with simple light. this is their activist recess. arnaud rebotini, composing the soundtrack of robin campillo’s previous film, “eastern boys-, is a recognized dj, a composer and a kind man, which is for me the most important quality. here, his work is marked by restraint of his love for house and after techno. i believe he deliberately withdrew himself in relation to the film’s power and the aids theme

keine ahnung was a quartet from w÷rth am rhein, germany formed in 1980. the original line up was rolf schmuck, franz h. rodenkirchen, elke fuchs and olaf schumacher. hermann kopp from stuttgart, a friend of the band, contributed a composition on their first lp and became a full member in 1985. taking cues from conrad schnitzler, tuxedomoon and dome, the band members shared a common interest in industrial, pop, avant garde literature and cinema. their controversial name translates to dont know or havent got a clue in german. the quartet would record three lps in 6 years, two of which remain unreleased.
