keope is the musical brainchild of toni bruna and marcus rossknecht. with the aim to record an album they ve met in an abandoned quarry on the slovenian border. the outcome tropicalni seems to exist in a vacuum. stylistically, all tracks here owe something to multiple genres and reference points - from folk, balearic, psychedelic and electronica, but none really fit well. synths drift in breezily, floating around the wistful melodies, acoustic guitars sparkle, while flutes & the beats hint at a deeper connection to dance rituals.

since they first appeared on the manchester scene around two years ago, the suzuki method have accomplished the rather unlikely feat of marrying the polar worlds of hard rock and eighties hard dance. like manchester peers the whip and delphic, they are a pop band who bring a wonderfully futurist imperative to the manc music table.

to explain the project briefly, this is the second ep called cd it has a remix track by alejandro vivanco on the c side, which then chic miniature have remixed on the d side. the project will continue like that on the next 12” where another artist will be remixing the chic miniature remix... and so it continues. the records won’t be catalogued by numbers, but by letters, as they are more of a series all together. in other words there is only one original track, which is the a side of the first ‘changing pieces’ 12- and the rest are remixes.

500 copies limited edition! flash forward is happy to repress one of kerri chandler s most beautiful records.first come first served ! -black vinyl label boss alan russell first met kerri when alan was writing for echoes magazine and kerri was signed (by a&r man johnnie walker) to champion records in the uk. alan was interviewing dee dee brave at a hotel in west london as part of the promotion for her album on champion which was released in 1991. alan was already familiar with kerri s work such as superlover and set if off and with his productions on movin records, so asked about kerri and when told that he was also in london as part of the dee dee s tour, the two met and began talking. kerri was slightly surprised that alan knew all of his early releases and the two bonded. they met again in new york when alan was attending the nms (precursor to the wmc in miami) and stayed in touch. years later when alan had started black vinyl the two met again and alan asked if kerri would do something for his label. kerri soon delivered a dat containing these three tracks. the track my old friend was originally titled for my old friend alan , which alan shortened so it would look better on the label! the rest, as they say, is history.-

the aristocrats were originally from bridgeport, connecticut, but came to philadelphia in 1973 where they recorded five tracks with bobbi eli at sigma sound studios. only one single was released, the philly classic “let’s get together now” on warner brothers records. original pressings can fetch up to £150. the expansion pressing here is extra special as the ‘b’ side “loving you is mellow” has never previously been released on 7” or vinyl. it is in fact the original version of a song later made famous by major harris but in it’s own right an exceptional piece of philly magic.

restless mashaits hailing from geneva are based around the core of jil and stuf. they released a sizeable amount of new roots classics throughout the 90s and 00’s. recently becoming active again, they are best remembered for the sessions they recorded at kingston, jamaica in the mid/late 90s with legendary musicians such as vin gordon, deadly headly and dizzy moore. the original releases have been since long deleted, but some are now unearthed thanks to partial records. * lion’ from 1996, features the legendary jamaican percussionist scully simms (who recently passed away) and was in every box of all serious roots selectors back then. now long deleted, this will fill in the gap for the many collectors who have this on their wants lists. dub lion’ is a different dub version to the one previously released in 1996.

for the first release on the wysing polyphonic label three-piece ectopia have created a suite of seven new works in which intricate cello and screeching and spoken word vocals are carried along on a wave of dark electronica, taking the listener on a journey into sad acid house, scratched dvds, lipstick clogged with rolling tobacco and hangovers with absent lovers.
ectopia are adam christensen, jack brennan and viki steiri. previous works have included sound-tracking jack smith’s experimental film normal love (1963) and carl theodor dreyer’s the passion of joan of arc (1928). they recently played a sell-out show at london’s ica in a wysing polyphonic showcase that also featured xname, siren and n-prolenta who made their uk live debut.
wysing polyphonic has emerged from the wysing polyphonic music festival, now in its 8th year, which has programmed the likes of beatric dillon, elaine mitchener, hannah sawtell, helena hauff, holly herndon, james holden, karen gwyer, klara lewis, nik colk void and russell haswell, amongst many others, play at the cambridgeshire centre.

since the inception of gregory vand and susan subtract’s electro-punk outfit high-functioning flesh in 2012, the band has proven to be one of the most singular acts in years, defying the genre tag of “classic” ebm, as the creativity and fresh perspective they bring to the stage and studio has been instrumental in carving out a modern audience for the genre – elevating hff into a category all their own. following their striking debut on dka records in 2014, high-functioning flesh delivered an exceptional step forward in their sound on their sophomore effort for dais records, the “definite structures” lp in 2015. since then, high-functioning flesh has toured extensively with label mates body of light and previewed their caustic shift to a more refined, hardened signature with their “human remains” single in 2016. we now find high-functioning flesh at their sharpest and most poised position to date within their newest album: “culture cut”

the passport to paradise gang are in fine form as they serve up four more tripped-out disco edits for the globally-minded savant. we take sail with the excellent thru wit waitin, a beefed-up guitar chugger reminiscent of 70s aor in its steady percussive work and misty sax solo. it s the guitar line that really shines here, lifting the tune into funk transcendence in the bridge. anybody out there reaches out to the disco trippers with its northern italian cosmic kitsch feel: starry-eyed synth pads float above reverb-soaked guitar musings and playful french vocal samples. a particular highlight. on the flip, ptp take things south with a soulful west african shuffler guaranteed to elicit some arresting footwork. the ep leaves us with resounding vibrations from the far east: jp wave explores ethereal planes, building up a dense rhythmic fabric punctuated by bass stabs and ornamental chimes. this is a clever bunch of edits for the more discerning selectors and enthusiasts out there- act fast.

it s been a while since we last heard from juniper, the manchester-based duo who showed much promise with early outings on underground quality and the like. having previously popped up on a various artists 12-, they return to the ever-essential meandyou with a strong statement of intent, packing five tracks into an ep that presents their subversive style immaculately. -indigo children- is a head-turning cut that fuses uptempo motor city style electro and techno with industrial tones, while -life source negative- switches stance for a beautiful, craftily constructed drift into woozy deep house. every track is noteworthy on this release, balancing immediacy and warmth against experimental textures in a way that sits very comfortably on meandyou.

with spring well and truly in the air and party season in step, mosaic records boss steve o sullivan launches mosaic s 38th release - joining forces with fellow londoner frazer campbell for a new studio collaboration. not content with letting the dust settle from his recent work alongside ricardo villalobos, o sullivan has stayed a little closer to his london home to work with frazer campbell for this latest tag team effort. a dextrous hand in the mix and producer in his own right, campbell has a passion for all things that sit on the deeper end of the house, techno and electronica spectrum. in his own words, thought emoting music is central to his mission having launched open recordings and elliot project records last year: a worthy sparring partner indeed. since the start of the year, the pair had their heads down focusing on finding a happy medium between deeply swung grooves and the airy influences of detroit - shaking out an interesting trio of tracks for their label debut. far from treading the obvious path, the main event a1 hypnotonic revels in a lighter touch as metronomic beat programming cycles endlessly to a held set of notes. off-kilter bass pulses, warped out vocals and effect splashes all intersect to keep the energy input constant as they capture one of those less frenzied moments where the very notion of time seems to hold still. make no mistake, this is a slow burn vibe. head to the flipside b1 soultonic to plunge yourself straight into hip twitching mode when the lights go down. a deep chord, syncopated hats and deftly tweaked synths echo as a full dose of shuffle inflicts its move. simple yet so effective, this track will not let you down. winding things back up a touch, the tougher edge of alleyway funk pushes the feeling on thanks to a thumping kick and a deft nod towards uk garage. met with a soft glisten of a rhodes piano and tweakish melody, the pair round things off in a boyant mood - fans of soul capsule and schatrax will no doubt agree. repeat play of this ep is recommended as its all the more rewarding for it.

he s bbeen a player of many years with groups such as ub40 aswad dub band ruff cutt just to name a few. he and his brother formed the band matic 16 to which the horn section is called matic horns. as a horn section they played on many reggae recordings for producers from the uk ja usa and europe. he has in resent times produced instrumentals for his own label hfp (homefront productions) that has been released 1.lucrative and 2 aba-ariginals as well as producing dub plates to the big sound systems such as aba-shanti-l channel one jah shaka and sound systems in europe. he has now taken to dub step with one of its biggest producers coki in bringing the horn to the electric digital sound with great success, new to the scene and new to both artists. this is an extension of bringing the sound of trixx to the club scene.

tendts are two brothers that make -music that you can da nce to, or not-. it seems an odd phrase, but aptly explains the duality of the greek duo. the compositions of christos and fotis papadakis are both emotive and movement inducing, even though they are written and structured with disparate elements that refuse to fall into obvious patterns. they consist of palpitating beats, imaginative textures, seductive melodies and sporadic bursts of treated vocals. it s everywhere is a concept ep soundtracking tendts intergalatic encounter with the pleiadians (dimension traversing nordic aliens to the unenlightened ) at the far edge of the universe. upon their journey home they brought with them not only costumes, masks and relics of extraterrestrial civilizations, they brought with them the spirits of two great celestial beings, momongo and floflolo. fotis and christos were the reincarnation of these two and the main purpose of their return was to enlighten the people of earth about the beginning of the era of the cosmic swimmer.

casino shanghai was a -techno-pop- band started in the mid-80s in mexico city. they released their debut and only album -film- in december of 1985. an album considered today as cult status. casino shanghai were part of a great cultural change in mexico and its music scene. the band made various controversial appearances on tv when a band without a drummer or guitarist was unheard of. all members had been in different notorious bands in the local scene. ulalume was the lead singer of the casuals (punk-new wave) and denseundergrowth (avant-garde). carlos robledo and walter schmidt were part of size (post-punk) and have been playing together for many years in decibel (experimental). humberto alvarez played with mcc (prog rock) and is currently a well-known musician and multi-instrumentist. before the band split-up they recorded two last songs in 1986, -le tombeau d edgar poe- and -l action minimal-, as part of an unreleased solo ep for ulalume. these tracks were edited in 2014 on 12&#8243,,, by mannequin records together with a remix by in aeternam vale. the music of casino shanghai was also used for the soundtrack of some mexican films. -crónicas de familia- directed by diego lópez and nominated for the ariel award for best original soundtrack in 1986, and -juana la cantinera- directed by josé loza. -film- has been restored and remastered for this new edition including all original tracks plus two bonus: -le tombeau d edgar poe (haunted version)- and -cuerpos huecos- (spanish version of -hollow bodies- available only on a promotional 7&#8243,,,). limited to 350 copies on white vinyl with a new artwork and printed inner sleeve with photos and song lyrics.

new york meets brighton as both label and artist step out on wax for the first time. this is a new, exciting realm for homage, but they surely know they re onto a winner with the feel good disco edit tones of tech support. there are classics embedded into these fine jams, with -feel it- coming on particularly summery in its laid back disco funk stylings. -inside out- is slightly more looped up, but no less uplifting, while -clarity- heads into a more woozy, filtered groove that feels inspired by the likes of theo parrish s ugly edits. by way of contrast -sugar- is a much more electronic affair that kicks with purpose while simultaneously reaching for the stars.

after kicking things off with sean thomas’ (cop envy) the weigh, sydney’s outer time inner space return with a collaborative ep from jon watts, the kind-hearted, go-to sound engineer of the sydney club and experimental music scene and otis label owner, hugh burridge (aka hubert clarke jr). as resident djs for otis’ sweet echoes parties and guests for some of sydney’s more open-minded club promoters, jon & hugh have developed their own style of warm up set, largely unrestrained by genre. another view is just an extension of this open approach to club music. there’s an obvious ode to bukem’s good looking records, a lopsided mpc jam that could have been written by a drunk ron trent, a club roller with uk broken beat at it’s heart and a spaced out, dream-scape dub from melbourne mate, rings around saturn (dan white) to round out the ep. the common thread, they’re keeping it deep.
