tommy rawson releases are sporadic but always high quality. as a former member of the souled duo who ran the excellent fresh minute label hes been around the more tropical end of uk house and broken beat for many years and this, his first full release for bergerac ushers forth a new level in his sound. this whole record is a masterclass in post bruk, forward thinking, shining, bright uk dance music. unmatched in emotion and vibes. deep blue is quite simply the sound of the summer. sun drenched, euphoric and soaring. broken but not broken, 4/4 but not quite housey. jazzy, soulful yeah. it was the highlight of red rack ems olive grove closing set at love international last year when it provided the most halcyon of moments. live trumpet from vicky flint and a whole bag of vibes from tommy rawson. this is a classic. trust. past tense is a super tropical african tinged house stomper which shows tommys love of sunshine vibes once more with acres of space, insistent chants, dubby pianos and a tinge of jungle roller bass. the final track into the future takes us into almost blade runner-esque orchestral emotion but with a kind of balearic feel tucked in there too. beautiful, lilting, emotional memories. you can feel so much love in this track. such a special record. buy it. love it. treasure it.

heady, astute, deep techno and ambient from blue veil, a new musical project from danny clancy. blue veils debut ep reveals gorgeously textured techno on tracks like wherethetimegoes and citizen score, as well as crafting some tender ambient passages on cuts like night czar and a kind of adventure. the ep will be released on dichotomy records, a new imprint, dedicated to refined electronic music. the labels ambition is to allow artists to explore dichotomies through their work, as they span sonic landscapes from pure ambient to techno, and other abstract dance sounds in-between. there will be a strong attention to the visual presentation of the label, with all artwork and photography also created by label boss danny clancy. with the next release lined up from ahu, and more to follow from there, the agenda for dichotomy records looks hugely promising indeed.

an astronomical conjunction has cropped up. arpanet is back after a long interstellar hibernation and 30drop comes up with its particular vision of the abstract elektro for the very first time. “phases ep” takes the primal warp’s heritage blending hypnotic melodies with rhythmically complex patterns. arpanet, which keeps the exquisiteness of its previous works for rephlex, among other labels, gazes into the black profoundness of its own and unique universe. 30drop’s two cuts, ostensibly touched by the aphex twin spirit, are a spellbinding exercise of style. “phases ep” is experimental, atmospheric, rhythmic and, above all, flawless. this enthralling ep is presented in electric blue vinyl. a special shape for a very special alliance.

for ‘disco club’ (1978) i worked with a drummer making loops that were adjusted, to create the hypnotic groove that is so special. despite the fact that it was all recorded in a professional studio (in a suburb of paris) i find this a very ‘artisan’ disk because it was all done using equipment that we now consider “home studio”. my producer, jacky giordano and i chose to use nicknames for the credits: he would be ‘joachim sherylee’ and i would be ‘junior claristidge’. as for black devil, that was the end result of this change: an extension of me, a new character. - bernard fevre, 2015

zwar beauftragte regisseur barry jenks nicholas britell mit der produktion eines orchestralen scores, forderte ihn aber gleichzeitig dazu auf die produktions-technik des chopped & screwed (wie im hip hop oft genutzt) auf passagen anzuwenden, so dass ein ungewöhnliches soundbild entstand.
