Words from object blue on the release and inspiration behind it:
I was just on the edge of establishing the identity of object blue, with her own sounds, when I said yes to this EP summer of 2017. If everything had gone to plan, it would have been my debut EP. Of course things didn't go to plan. Within the few months that followed, I ran out of a deep personal hell. I was bloodied, thorned, wept all the way into autumn. Then I fell in love.

Surely you can see how addled my mind & body was. I unfortunately could not distill it nicely into music: I submitted the demos in December, then told LGS to forget about them, that I can't release this in good conscience, that I need more time.

Do you plan to end a siege? was started & finished completely separate from this experience, and became my debut EP instead. I walked back into my room and gazed at my now-no-longer-debut-EP. It didn't recognise me; I'd been a negligent parent; I barely recognised it either.
And so I started one anew.

Picture me delirious, laughing & crying my way through writing what became REX, laughing & crying at 5PM, 5AM, all times of the day, ignoring the outside world, hot & drained in my airless microcosm, desperate to finish it. Writing this album was extremely difficult. whilst Siege was homogenous, one live set chiseled into three tracks, REX is an assemblage of messes. it's so violently honest that I thought it would be off-putting. But I couldn't not write this: this was my catharsis: and I really sympathised with King Lear, senile, delirious, splitting his kingdom into three for his daughters, all of who are totally different from one another, with different motives. His most beloved Cordelia moves out. the princess is no longer at this address.

Princess is no longer at this address. it's heartbreaking, you know, when your ethics and politics betray your kin. What would you do if you were her? As the youngest daughter of a difficult patriarch I have wondered this many times. nevertheless it's (time to) work. Aaliyah has always guided my music, in fact this was the first techno track I ever wrote. Now it sits as the second track to my second EP. In his adaptation Lear, Edward Bond made Cordelia a farmer's wife leading a rebellion against the monarchy. I salute her with Cordelia's call to arms, though I'm not sure if I would follow her call. This track is a heatwave, I'm choking on my own feelings of defiance and rebellion, my own adrenaline addiction. in the last act of Lear, Lear tries to take down Cordelia's wall. he's shot dead by her soldiers. Chipping at the kingdom: how water can pierce stone with enough tenacity, taking something extremely small and aiming it at something extremely large.
