those familiar with the world of dub disco and modern balearica should know all about layne fox, a san francisco-based producer who has released some killer records over the last decade as part of noted collective 40 thieves. the bay area ensemble has been responsible for some killer records, including gems on rong music and leng, who released their expansive debut album the sky is yours back in 2014. now, fox has decided to go it alone for an outing on magic feet that marks his first solo outing since 2005 s move me under the tuffy alias. its something of a gem, too, effortlessly combining many of his familiar influences with nods towards druggy italo-disco and horizontal pop.

in 2013 drumcell debut his first full length album sleep complex on clr. around the time of the album release drumcell invited three of his close label mates luis flores and raíz truncate from droid and lucy from stroboscopic artefacts to create their own interpretations of his music. the unreleased tracks were constant dance floor tracks used within the teams dj sets and its about time to release these tracks to the public!

about a year ago nico stojan and acid pauli met at the studio to record some music. while doing so they discovered their common love for sample based production. so they were basically digging into old vinyls and eventually these three tracks came along. nothing more to say, but enjoy. call of the valley is the first release on the new label ouie: there has been a shift in this tiny piece of massive world and, like all other shifts, they are documented by those who were there. ouie is the label to do just that, created by the people who were there, making those shifts.

virginia steps up with her first full-length on ostgut ton, playfully answering all questions and rhetorics about love, lust and life with her singing on eleven new songs. titled fierce for the night and co-produced by renowned artists dexter, martyn and steffi, the album offers a very personal insight to her inner self while drawing from club culture s long and rich history.

last year saw the mysterious garage shelter make their debut appearance on skylax, and little is still known about them! all we know is they are back with some freshness on the skylax classic sublabel. first up is bring back love, a track that will sink its claws in with that infectious vocal sample hook. sticking with the old school sample vibe is the lonely heart dub of attempt, it’s a bit more mellow but still has plenty of groove in it. friend of the garage shelter, dj la foudre, appears over on the b side with it’s alright (signal st mix). still on that catchy sample tip, it features one of the grooviest bassline and funky guitar pairings i’ve heard in a long time. next up, perception 66 is a smooth house affair from yet another friend, asa no hikari. rounding out the package is garage shelter’s own you (still), a dreamy pad-driven track that may indeed be the pick of the release. while we don’t know much about garage shelter, we can’t help but look forward to what they come out with next!

koehler returns to berceuse heroique with his third release for the label. contra blood invokes the spirit of early no u turn records, infusing some techno dynamics, creating a very interesting anthem for people who don’t care about boundaries in dance music. flammarion breach combines his classic ‘ardcore techno sound with a repetitive arpeggio that recalls the tension of some of the best film scores by john carpenter. with rotating rupees, koehler delivers another beautiful ambient tune and this time its his ode to zelda.

ext returns with his follow up to the third installment of house shoes reputable “the gift” series with “arts & craft”. ext cleared off his desktop about a year ago and sent me everything he had been working on. all of the tracks were in various stages of development. some loops, some fully fleshed out, some sounded like sketches. it drew my attention because of the resounding innocence of the collection, an innocence that is more or less gone from the industry in 2015. listen and learn what it sounds like to just have the intention to create, not muddled with the star aspirations or big money dreams. just to create.

powerdance is a collective formed by luke solomon and nick maurer formed as a reaction to bland soul less dance music that seems to infiltrating nightclubs the world over. luke and nicks comradely stems back many many years to their association with the classic music company a label formed by derrick carter and luke. nick maurer was one half of the then prolific greens keepers. this ep for optimo trax features the wigged epically funkoid gem mysterious space plane who doesn t like songs about space? on the other side is the modern hyper jacking more fire. alongside these are a reprise of mysterious space plane and a bonus beats of more fire for those djs who like to, are able to get creative with their mixing

2016 repress , legendary deeply rooted house records comes with a new serie releases called rootstrax. first ep is by a mysterious french artist that remains unknown for now. however, the listener that knows a bit about the french house music history can easily define the roots of the producer (not saying he can point out who he is :-) the influences of early 90s fcom/fnac sound is present combined with some classic chicago house... this is exactly the concept of rootstrax. interesting concept and cool record that makes us wonder if this has been dome by an old fox or a young puppy producer? for sure this sounds very mature and delivers 12inch extraordinaire!

norse projekt returns for a 3rd time with the bulgarians at the helm this time round. anton pau delivers 3 minimal groovers accompanied by an alexandar kyosev interpretation on the track aptly named after the ep p-loop. lots to love about this ep, support again from the industry players xx

in collaboration with aniara records sankt goran presents an old swedish release that has been released as promo only in 1999. its a release called slobban by a late 90s trio of jens johansson, peter gustafsson and carl magnus ernström from falun in the woods of dalarna, two hours north of stockholm. almost classic detroit techno tracks with some jazzy influences from these guys that have been playing around and tweeking their deep bass nine, tb-303, korg dw8000 and yamaha dx7 & dx10, sprinkling some samples on top with the casio fz-10m since 1994. the peepz of aniara were so impressed by this obscure record that they found it essential to get a small run back avaialble for the many vinyl heads around. vinyl only release of these great swedish techno tracks somehow in the vein of the breakthrough tracks of aril brihka. nice one!

borussia is our neighbor but dont think were releasing his record for this reason! he is passionate about video games, horror movies and romantic comedies, which might be one of the reasons why he gives us such an explosive cocktail. this record is raw, mad and dirty like a good old dance mania. but no need much to say, just try it on a dancefloor youll enjoy it!

if everything suddenly changed – what would that be like?
qnete’s ep is not the question and not the answer. it’s in a hiatus between hopes and fears, still maintaining an eager energy. within a short period of time all tracks were recorded straight to tape, raw and improvised. they remember the sun bath before the storm, when you feel that something is about to roll over you. they express the urge and need to sometimes just jump into the cold water to face what’s coming next. they linger in the nervous energy when you’re lost and don’t know what to expect. but they also talk about the hope of finding a safe place.

modern love very rarely reaches out to artists outside of its immediate surroundings, it’s happened just a couple of times in the last 14 years. but there’s something about philippe hallais that compelled the label to ask him if he wanted to do something together. philippe has released music on a bunch of cool labels (l.i.e.s., the trilogy tapes, delsin, in paradisum), but hearing the first tracks recorded for lighthouse stories, it was obvious philippe was hitting on something new: a kinda weird slow/fast dance music that sounded like a footwork variant sewn up with an exotic production style that was impossible to pin down. these tracks eventually splintered off into different directions, held together by a strong sense of narrative and motion harking back to a teenage obsession with turntablism, detroit electro and ghetto house, and eventually juke and grime. although he’s spent the last few years focusing on more industrial dancefloor variants, for lighthouse stories philippe turned to these foundational influences, as well as his love of mixtapes and sound collages full of unfinished ideas, skits and experiments, all things that inform the flow of this new album. lighthouse stories captures a sense of nostalgia well, but is also a futuristic vision full of that exploratory, vibrant spirit that’s so hard to find in electronic music these days. frames of reference are hard, but in places it reminds us of the dusted swagger of anthony shake shakir, the acquatic drexciyan movements of ultradyne, a loose-limbed take on shangaan, and of actress at his most submerged. but ultimately, it’s an album made by a producer looking to his personal history while forging new ground, pushing ahead with little regard to convention and ultimately ending up with something completely unique: a kind of intimate journal rendered in bright colours and odd shapes.

having unleashed the beast that is his debut lp columbusing, thatmanmonkz grants a couple more heavyweight producers permission to get busy with the sonic manglers for remixes of turn it out and boogie down. first up, one of the vocalist contributors to the lp dave aju (known for his releases on circus company) takes on his own track turn it out, transforming the original from a backyard bbq summer jam into some kind of mutant electro p-funk meets broken- beat fusion. a filtered bass line and bare bones 808 kicks are what this track is all about forming the perfect rhythmic union with the vocal.

nice price deal !!! the escape series proudly presents the next slice of wax featuring 4 brilliant artists and their stunning sounds. first up is a fresh cut from the americanborn veteran elbee bad, >supa kewl<. the track draws its energy from a bustling percussive atmosphere, pulling inspiration from the depths of tech, house, and a rich history of musical expertise. carrying the torch further, duererstuben drops another dancefloor-mover titled >tush & harsh<. the track plays just about as you’d expect from its titling, making for an extraordinary dance track full of deep groove and a thick atmosphere to bounce the night away. rising suns takes an afterhour atmosphere and throws is thick groove under it, giving a glorious euphoria as >flying in the wind< turns out to be the perfect title. and finally, freund der famillie crafts a breathtaking journey into dub-tech territory. >grand rue< holds back in its delivery, slowly dripping onto itself and its true, brooding form.

on a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind africaine 808: d leyers and nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. in front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. the boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as blind double d . they offered to bring him home and record him. he turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good bourbon. he explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of bourbon and to be left alone. the boys got him the bottle, and recorded blind d.d. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. this added some extra funk to the recording. with dirk and nomad s usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. we hope you ll enjoy it as much as we do.

tresvibes soundsystem, the trio of satoshi otsuki, dj pi-ge, and kikiorix, is based in tokyo and their label, vis rev set is about to kick into gear. their first release will be pressed on wax introducing the unreleased tracks from their mix cd -playground-. a-side includes a track with its original groove made of complex yet excellent minimal sound by hello?repeat soundsystem, a unit of daze maxim and jan krueger. b-side offers a minimal house track with jazzy and soulful live sound by dewalta from meander and also dj pi-ge s deep tool-track full of analogue sounds. the contents of this ep are all prominent modern minimal house tracks. you should drop them in your house set but they can really be played during any kinds of sets! they come only on vinyl!

another extremely rare underground disco track coming out of the peter brown & patrick adams (p&p) camp - check!! this 1979 floor packer comes in long and short version, originally released on lonnie which was a division of famed queen constance records. the first bit of the track has a loose funk groove with horns that turns into this incredible 4/4 percussive disco track with cool keywork at about halfway down the track. tip!

a1 nubian mindz - deep in raves: well known for his versatile and rich production, colin delivers once more. with a quite suitable name - deep in raves is just that. a deep plunge into dark and rave-like atmosphere. after a short intro layered with an ominous voice, massive bassline takes over and drives the track through the darkest curves. enriched with short percussions and a synth stab this is quite a stomper best experienced on a good club soundsystem, preferably in the dark. a2 volster - nebula: almost obsessed with audio purity, volster manages to combine new and modern sounds with old-school genre roots. nebula is all about complexity. although it is based on an electro foundations, it s so much more. space filled with an oscillatory synth motion perplexed with smooth pads that gives the impression of an interstellar properties. no detail is left unengaged, from the 808 that keeps everything in motion to the subtle amount of panning. this is a beautifully crafted story by a producer who is slowly but steadily growing into one of the best croatian artists. b1 lucretio - dracula: the most famed beard of cadoneghe/italy has pulled another magic gem from his music source. widely known for his relentless tendency to push the analogue spectrum to it s extreme, lucretio surprises once more with his ability to blend simple pieces into an effective sub storm with almost comic like features. dracula is not your conventional tune and it s pretty obvious why as soon as you put the needle on. broke down rhythm is heavily fueled by polished but enormous sub background with sparse and ¥in your face¥ shots. seemingly random notes take a gloomy and powerful form during the break and soon the lurky atmosphere comes into picture. this is truly brilliance in it s full simplicity. if only bram stoker could hear this, he would probably be both stunned and amused! b2 james booth - jxst do it: one of our goals on vakum is to be on a lookout for a new and promising talents. berlin based james booth surely fits the bill. jxst do it is a seriously crafted track with rich rhythmic section wrapped in a steady build up. after the initial break-beat intro sliced in short chunks, subtle 303 bassline takes over and the rhythmic game begins. booth delivers a perfectly timed cuts accompanied by a diverse palette of percussions. this is a perfect piece for those build up moments in the club..

black asteroid is a man with a unique vision for the future of techno. as a former engineer for prince and half of acclaimed techno outfit motor, bryan black has been consistently pushing the boundaries of electronic music for over two decades. he now launches his most ambitious project to date with pitch black, a new multi-faceted platform that encapsulates everything the man is about. with the podcast well underway, and the tour consistently arriving at new horizons, black asteroid moves forward with the next chapter in the pitch black dynasty. combining his loves of fashion, love and art, each pitch black release is going to be a unique affair fusing different artists, designers and musicians.

seems like somethings going on across the pond at the moment with seemingly blossoming, or at least rejuvenated scenes in the united states and canada. our last handful of releases on freerange have included artists from montreal, tujuana, pittsburgh and chicago and were about to add los angeles to the list with this new one from justin jay and ulf bonde. the young producers have been steadily building steam with a number of fine releases the last couple of years and we welcome them to freerange for their debut ep entitled indecision. the title track sets the mood with a low-slung, super-deep house groove complete with an intimate vocal and a charming simplicity which contributes to the powerful end result. elements come into focus then disappear in a fog of reverb whilst playful guitar picks add a live jammed feel to the loping groove giving things a bob moses/francis harris kind of vibe

gari romalis and lello di franco - dreamin for the uninitiated, our man gary romalis is the unsung master of detroit’s house and techno scene. having djed across the motor city’s top venues for the last three decades, gary is somewhat of a seminal figure for many of detroit’s djs currently at the forefront. following a slew of high quality releases on various labels over the past few years, gary now unleashes that special flavour on us for skylax 142! he is not alone though. with him, he brings all round italian partymaker, and top selector in his own right, lello di franco. let me tell you, this duo’s collaboration is something to behold. throughout all 3 tracks on the record, gary and lello maintain the essence of what the detroit underground is all about, stripped back tracks with soul that never feel like they go ‘big’ for the sake of it. while dreamin (wanda mix) may be packing a big kick and power clap combo, it’s the elegantly filtered, jazzy sample that will leave you wishing that the track lasted forever. the vibe takes a dip right into the deep in detroit underground (beat dat mix). spacious pad synths alongside a mesmeric vocal carry us through. taking a step back up, afrobeat rounds off the ep, made with a solid toolkit of afro-centric samples.

as both a producer and the helmsman of the outis music label, dino sabatini has carved out a distinctive musical style that shows a great reverence for both ancient archetypes and future possibilities for change (see, for example, his mnemosyne co-release with edit select, in which each track is dedicated to a separate greek goddess).

we are very proud to announce that we have signed arovane aka uwe zahn for echocord. uwe is in our world a legend within the electronic music scene. he started to do releases on the old berlin labels din and city-centre-offices. he is known for being one of the best producers ever within the idm & electronica scene. back in the 90’s he listened to the music of basic channel, maurizio and fluxion a lot. this sound is timeless. in the summer of 2015 he started to record a couple of dub sounds and beats beside his collaboration work and the production of his new album. he talked to fluxion and told him about the growing project. he liked the tracks very much and connected it with echocord and the modul ep was born.
