Multi Brit Award winning, Paul Young, releases his first solo album in over 20 years, ‘Good Thing’.
Executive producer and partner in the ‘Good Thing’ project is world renowned Arthur Baker, best known for his work with hip hop artists like Afrika Bambaataa & cross-over pop acts New Order and the Pet Shop Boys, here he channels some of his later work with Al Green. The album is a collection of classic soul covers and sees Paul return to the soulful roots sound that catapulted him to worldwide fame.

They set out to create the ultimate collection of soulful covers, stemming from Memphis soul as a starting point; which is why Stax Records (a major factor in the creation of Southern and Memphis Soul) feature so heavily on this new album. From Al Green’s ‘L-O-V-E’, The Staple Singer’s ‘Touch A Hand, Make A Friend’ and Syl Johnson’s ‘Back For A Taste Of Your Love’, right through to The Bee Gee’s ‘Words’ and Jonnie Taylor’s ‘I Believe In You’ – ‘Good Thing’ is, in Paul’s opinion, the cream of soul in one collection:

“This album is a labour of love, my soulful dream realised for everyone to now share,” states Paul. “I’ve carefully selected and re-recorded some of the most beautiful, iconic and rare soul tracks of all time and I hope people enjoy this album as much as I’ve loved creating it.”

Good Thing’ also boasts some of the industry’s best musicians including, Paul Stacey (Oasis, Black Crowes, Lemon Trees), Jeremy Stacey (High Flying Birds, Black Crowes, Waterboys) & The Sex Pistols - Glen Matlock.

Paul’s superstar status was confirmed with the release of his album UK Triple platinum selling , ‘No Parlez’ in 1983. The album including the number one single ‘Wherever I Lay My Hat’ which maintained the No1 spot for most of that summer, followed by ‘Come Back And Stay’, which secured Paul’s presence at the top of the charts. With the release of his UK Double Platinum / US Gold selling second album ‘The Secret Of Association’, and the success of ‘Every Time You Go Away’, his status as a world star was confirmed. Many also remember Paul’s solo on the original, ‘Band Aid’ single in ’84 & Live Aid set in ’85.
In recent years Paul was approached by Gary Barlow to perform on the soundtrack for the Eddie The Eagle Movie and has enjoyed the live limelight with his los locos band, Los Pacaminos, with whom he’s toured relentlessly.
