we are really proud and honored to present espectrum, a year-long effort to put together a compilation of the best dub techno. the idea was simple, but ambitious: ask some of our favorite artists for one track to epitomize dub techno—the style of music we’ve loved and continued to develop since our birth as producers and a label. with a very precise idea of what we wanted to collect, the compilation was carefully built with hypnotic, obscure, dense, and magical sounds with an eternal hook. these are the kind of tracks that will never lose their appeal, because they go above and beyond labels, styles, and trends, resisting the passage of time. after the first tracks starting coming in, the idea grew more and more special, and the concept even stronger. we knew we were onto something really big. and, finally, here it is.

oskar szafraniec is a musician, producer, singer-songwriter and live performer from poland who lives in berlin. he s been experimenting with music since the age of 10 and has released projects under the moniker oscar burnside on various labels. collaborating with legendary uk producer a guy called gerald, oskar has also performed in many clubs and festivals next to well known artists and djs such as richie hawtin, mixmaster morris, ricardo villalobos, carl craig etc. this ep exclusively produced for cyclo demonstrates oskar s ability to develop a unique style inspired by his journeys around the world and his berlin life. whether for home listening or for the dancefloor, these 4 gems built with deep live sounds and subtle drums sequences will surely confirm the rise of a young talented artist ans producer.

raffaello & palermo is the union of two friends and old lph brothers, damon palermo, aka magic touch, and raphae&#776,,l valensi, aka laura ingalls. palermos an angeleno who came up in the bay area scene of the mid-aughts and valensis a frenchman dwelling in shanghai, perhaps best known for his work as the horses, a duo comprised of him and cle&#769,,ment pony. so there s the backstory. what s actually on this slab of wax, though? four chunky anthems that nimbly weave ravey mayhem into filter house and disco edits, sometimes touching on almost psychedelic trance-like tropes. if you dont hear one of these out every weekend night this summer, you re going to the wrong parties

karen gwyer and beatrice dillon join forces for a limited 12- release on alien jams. both artists find themselves deeply ingrained in london s vibrant electronics scene, however these two musicians approach their sound from two distinctly different angles. dillon s -curl- combines synthesised percussive effects with dubby analogue tones - maintaining the avant garde sensibilities of her blues dances 12- on where to now? - while the synths of gwyer s -common soundproofing myths- wail like sirens before falling into intoxicating acid territory. please note that this is a vinyl release only.

this is an album of deeply emotional music. it s not all heartfelt niceties and eye-welling moods though. rhythmic theory did after all come to light (or should that be dark) in the gloomy alleyways of uk soundsystem music begat from dubstep and all that other stuff. -creeper- is on hand to affirm that this is a record still steeped in true, stern moodiness, where a stalking sub line, some metallic percussion and an icy drone can still strike fear more than a thousand angry wobble basslines. it s worth noting how much attention has been given to shorter vignettes. as well as the aforementioned, cryptically titled -interlude-, -work of fiction- and -end (of forever)- both give insights into the places rhythmic theory cares to roam beyond the structure of a long form track. these are places where melancholic or downright ambiguous dispositions interplay with each other, from the synthetic to the earthly, the malevolent to the tender. in the end, even at its most monochromatic, nothing is black and white on rhythmic theory s debut album, and that s just fine with us.

mixing abstract hip-hop and house, blutch s style is mind-blowing and striking, with touches of groove and heat. borrowing from pépé bradock, francis inferno orchestra,cuthead, andrés, shigeto and massive attack, blutch has forged a unique musical identity all along his career, always with this strong desire to combine several universes into a single entity.
in january 2015 blutch revealed his creative genius with his first ep, equilibrium. he will soon revisit a voluptuous set mixing trip hop, the softness of electronica and a hypnotic deephouse. requilibrium unites 9 artists in one project that represents blutch’ diverse musical spectre. friends, idols, people who we loved to collaborate with, spend time with, get to know better. the r stands for the remix, the reinterpretation of blutch’ ep equilibrium. each artist gives new life to one of the tracks, spicing them up to their liking. cuthead transforms « skyview » in a straight-up house floor killer while maxime dangles takes « chocolates & hamburgers » to gloomy, cold electronic heights. between these two extremes the music gradually and cleverly evolves track by track. melodiesinfonie opens up in complete serenity with his take on « a. » which takes us straight into summer with our feet in the sand. tito wun follows up perfectly with his version of “wildstar” that is stacked with groovy samples. next up is keroué, member of the band fixpensill. he puts his rhymes on a stellar edit by ywnwa. jenovah choses to take “deep diving” on a bass-driven path while pavane sees and raises that with an orchestral version of anyoma. it’s up to the brothers ark & pit spector to close out the ep by taking « elis » into deeper territory.

great debut release and new label from a rubadub shop regular featuring tracks from shop regulars. tip. this first release is made up of 3 tracks from my friends and 1 from myself. there’s no concept here other than putting out music that was otherwise not going to see the light of day. the first track is by bleaker who put out a 12inch on unknown to the unknown last year, the second by miz aka big miz whos been putting out music on dixon avenue basement jams, the third by the burrell connection who has a release on west end communications and a track on a craig knows released compilation and the last track is from myself which got a play on big mizs boiler room set. these tracks were all sent to me around the same time and it felt right to make a place for them on a record. bleaker, miz and the burrell connection have all been making waves in scotland and beyond and these 3 tracks are proof that the attention is warranted. and i dont think my track is too bad either.

the good folk at kat records deliver release no. 28 in the shape of a 4 tracker of tasty audio goodness covering disco, boogie, house and a rather splendid leftfield number that defies any form of categorisation! hlb (henri le blanc) is the man behind these and deffo one to keep close tabs on! the a side covers of the disco,house element nicely with thunder and straight up boogie with loves comin. not direct edits, but reversions with elements added to spice up and delight. the flip is a hammond lead beauty with 2 tracks that lean slightly left of centre. country churches is a low slung deep house chugger that really does tease all the way and we finish things off with the ace touch my soul. elements of broken beat, soul and funk with a top vocal hook to set it off.

after successful two releases hoxton records is back with yet another va compilation featuring equally talented three producers from romania. zefzeed has been behind the decks for over 10 years and producing since 2009. in 2013 he was signed with bodyparts records and started working with vinyl only record labels. cosmjn & lizz duo work speaks for itself as it has already amassed the support from petre inspirescu, barac, new zau and sepp. these guys are extremely talented and produce the tracks with inspiring harmonies. bucharest based producer direkt is a hidden gem. being the youngest producer on hoxton records label, he is definitely the one to watch. this vinyl only release is showcasing the artist that are creating the music worth collecting.

after coming with a pretty great electronic soft jazz number on the first release, distant works begins to define the mission behind the label with the second offering-a synth, italo-esque 5-cut ep that would only come from somewhere in the netherlands these days. the label bosses are clearly up to go to distant places to deliver the sounds. it s a very impressive statement and raises our interest on future releases.

something special from camp critical as two of electronic music’s leading lights lock horns for a vs battle of epic proportions. taking the jungle fleck of “mind & spirit” from sam’s “wasted days” lp of last year and one of breakage’s most memorable cuts from way back when (2005), the results are as you’d expect from these two. utterly essential listening.

for the second bad barbie records vinyl release of 2016 we are more than exited to bring you the magnificent work from the bla bla music owner daniel sanchez with his impromptu ep. here we have four amazing pieces where each one tells a different history. the first one pearled into droplets saw the light after a great live jam and the result is combination of several layers of base elements with subtle minimalistic articulations. these, in combination of the bass and synths lines do create a truly amazing micro house piece. the second one vague, is an atmospheric dub were a single synth chord raises in slowly, followed by a very subtle kick and bass line to set a bit of rhythm to the whole thing, creating a superb dreamy vibe while the chords do their thing with delicate reverbs and delays in the backend. a great musical piece indeed. for the third track we have yi, again another amazing micro house jewel born from a live jam, but this one is even more energetic than the first one and it also includes, besides a rocking bass line, analog synth chords that lifts up the mood during specific moments, which also do their part articulating themselves perfectly with some occasional twisted vocals that helps create an amazing party vibe from beginning to end. and if this wasn t enough we also have bedroom stories vocal tool that daniel included with his delivery, which can help spice up a dj set with ease.

here we bring you an amazing ep of atmospheric delight stunning bass sounds with an amazing remix from zefzeed. both of these artists are very talented producers and very professional and it gives us great pleassure to have them on board with us at trapped ldn. born in republic of moldova, suolo is one of these young producers of minimalist music that sets no boundary in terms of style and musical horizons. after a few trips during the year 2012, he learned to assert his artistic difference both melodic and underground. he signed on labels such as um passo, sleep is commercial, leone music, in records and many others who have helped him to become known to a wider audience.

favorite recordings presents this new official album reissue of shine the light of love by googie & tom coppola: a beautiful soul album sublimely produced with a sweet la groove! thomas wilkinson coppola (aka tom coppola) is a pianist and arranger, known for being a principal member of the funky prog-jazz group air (not to be confused with the french duo). he began working as a musician in manhattan in the 1960s, where he met carolyn brooks (aka googie coppola). if they only released one self-titled album with air in 1970, and shine the light of love as a duo in 1980, these two amazing talents have collaborated with artists such as herbie mann, lenny white, flora purim, ray barreto or jeremy steig to name just a few.

strut present an inspired new afro-electronic project for 2016, kondi band, a collaboration between sierra leonean kondi (thumb piano) player sorie kondi and us producer / dj chief boima, who himself has sierra leonean roots. the project was spawned after boima happened upon an online video of one of sories original tracks. sorie kondi is a blind musician with a will to thrive like no person i have met before, explains boima. my work with him began with a youtube link. i spotted the video for his track without money no family and was struck by his beautiful vocals and socially-conscious lyrics. these incredible melodies he was playing on his namesake thumb piano (the kondi) sealed the deal: i immediately decided to remix it.

in this offering by the berlin-based and made in the middle east label disco halal, we urge you to meet nadav spiegel, better known as autarkic. autarkic is a self-sufficient artist and live virtuoso, he is the first member of the disco halal family which will be releasing his music in spring 2016. “can you pass the knife?” is about the struggle being stucked in a gap between longing to his homeland and what it could have been like and a heavy criticism on what it actually became. it will be a mini-lp containing 6 mesmerizing songs, “asi keta g”, “solo gun”, “watch out”, “the misorientation of autarkic”, “ufo (space version)” and “tender lies”. that might sound like only a combination of random words now, but after being heard, these songs will help you to enter the embodiment of autarkic​ and allow you to save a piece of his soul on your shelf. shimmering melodies, gibberish language, haunting vocals, extended beat programming and one-take recordings, should mark the beginning of a new disco halal phase. after releasing mainly edits from around the transcultural hemmesphere, the transition to original exquisite music seems to be a necessity.

in 2013 drumcell debut his first full length album sleep complex on clr. around the time of the album release drumcell invited three of his close label mates luis flores and raíz truncate from droid and lucy from stroboscopic artefacts to create their own interpretations of his music. the unreleased tracks were constant dance floor tracks used within the teams dj sets and its about time to release these tracks to the public!

sasaki hiroaki is a minimal techno/minimal house artist from japan. his label * yotsume-music* has just released its 3rd ep. the 1st ep (recorded in -yone-ko rework-) is highly sought after on dicogs, whilst the new icon ep resembles these floating pads combined with a very tight sound machine rhythm on its four minimal techno and minimal house tracks. a1 * circle* brings a sorrow sound loop whilst a2 * forever* features a hypnotic synth pattern. the b side relies heavily on floating pads with * icon* and brings a dubby, deep sea feeling with b2 *kaii* . all 4 minimal techno/ minimal house tracks!!!

about a year ago nico stojan and acid pauli met at the studio to record some music. while doing so they discovered their common love for sample based production. so they were basically digging into old vinyls and eventually these three tracks came along. nothing more to say, but enjoy. call of the valley is the first release on the new label ouie: there has been a shift in this tiny piece of massive world and, like all other shifts, they are documented by those who were there. ouie is the label to do just that, created by the people who were there, making those shifts.

for their third release, hard beach entertainment dug deep into detroit history and unearthed the enigmatic dj scsi whose only release to date came out in ’97 on d-bass. never released before, these four cuts have been fished out from dj scsi’s own archive, uncovering some of the finest electro/ghetto house from the d. massive!

edits is back with another release made for the floor.hip house party anthems sounds a bit cheesy but this is exactly what the tracks do when played on a proper sound system. these tracks were never meant to be released and couldonly be heard on the floor at the right place at the right time. but since reactions were always so overwhelming these tracks are now released for everybody to enjoy. the a-side features original tracks from amsterdam cool kid tommy theo (this is his first release)and label founders latelier. ...

anyone familiar with the music of sinisa tamamovic knows the man is an expert in techno floor fillers.... the tracks here are no exception, valentina and confused reside in the world of bold, unrelenting grooves constructed with little more than bass and drums: and they get the job done. the bass lines are distinctly sinisa, simple, catchy, and mixed exquisitely, they take on a whole new attitude when played on club systems. valentina starts things strong, its driving rhythm gains energy as atmospheres develop and an worldly vocal enters, a latin american street rhyme that gives the track some international flare. confused is more raw, employing rough drums and ethereal sound effects. either one will do the trick for peak hours and late nights, and expect to hear these all over the place at wmc 2016

in 2006, tim arndt released the first near the parenthesis album “go out and see”. arndt had intended to follow up that release with a more beatless ambient album, where percussion was left to the side and composition took center stage. a shelved idea that we now get the benefit of a full ten years later. this new album helical is the realization of arndt s stripped down ambient concept. helical features arndt’s characteristic experimental modem classical instrumentation and compositional style, but slows things down and stretches them out. the focus on the organic is clear, but moments of ethereal breath weave in and out and prevent the album from becoming too self aware. helical, as a loose reference to the geometric structure of our very dna and it contains themes that are driven by a recent discovery of arndt’s past and ancestry. the release seamlessly stitches all of these concepts together and marks an unique release and new direction for arndt’s near the parenthesis.
