futuristic-funk starchild jimmy edgar returns with the third single to be taken form his recent album >majenta< out earlier this year on hotflush. this time edgar shoves is free-spirited sexual appetite in your face, with a slice of stripped-down, upfront electro-funk complete with j.g. ballard-inspired lyrics of car-crash sexual fetishism. alongside the original album cut, two alternate takes are reworked by a pair of producers at the very top of their game: jon convex and john talabot. whilst talabot creates an eerie and downright epic re-imagining through his combination of amazonian electronics and volume manipulation, the convex cut enhances the dance floor potential of the original with bubbling, arpeggiated 303 bass.

the 2nd e.p taken from jon convexs debut >idoru< lp is a turn for the darker side than its predecessor. on these two limited 10 inch white vinyl plates, convex transports us into a cold and dystopian future.

damon kirkhams solo adventure under the alias jon convex continues. the first of an exclusive three part limited 300 white vinyl run ep series leading up to the cd album release. the release also contains a remix from french duo gucci vump (aka brodinski & guillaume of the shoes). kirkham has also been working on the staging of the album, which will have custom-made visuals based on the covers of the album and the eps.

having released the anonymous and enormous f**k yonkers bootleg earlier this year, the amsterdam based audio culture label is poised to unleash their first official release, a piece of music which is the result of the collaborative efforts of dutch wunderkind presk and amsterdams premier tastemaker cinnaman. in part, pieter presk willems support is responsible for the labels inception. in a short space of time presk has built up a solid and impressively distinct sounding catalogue of work released on respected imprints such as ramp sister label fourth wave and doc daneekas ten thousand yen. making a name for himself with nothing more than his hands and impeccable taste, yuri cinnaman boselie has become somewhat of a musical institution in amsterdam. he is the man behind the ground breaking colors nights and is responsible for the equally forward thinking beat dimensions compilations. the b-side features two expertly remixed and uniquely different takes on the original, courtesy of non other than instra:mentals jon convex and ten thousand yen head honcho doc daneeka.

having finished recording the new zombie zombie album (out: april 2012), etienne jaumet leaves temporarily the duo to record a solo piece, as a need to find oneself again … if the word satori means spiritual awakening, the title track that offers etienne seems to describe the way to this awakening … a winding and sometimes dark path, taking inspiration from both dark disco and synth wave (etienne is particularly keen of those genres, you can listen to his new podcast for versatile records as an evidence) and also to some kind of trance… on b side, jon convex, newcomer on the dubstep / uk garage field and signed on martyns label, delivers a clearly club oriented version, by injecting syncopated beat and the funky groove unique to uk garage.

next up on the label is this brilliant two-tracker from instra:mentals jon convex. serving as a taster of his forthcoming debut solo album its a hugely impressive 12 inch with both sides demanding your attention. theres a nice old skool eerie, electro feel throughout and the tracks manage that nifty trick of sounding like something from the past and the future at the same time.

repress - fly free is the newest ep by jon dixon on his hi-tech jazz label, 4evr 4wrd (forever forward). he collaborated with 2 good friends and detroit legends, john jammin collins and al ester to create two unique edits that best suit their personal dj style. he is no stranger to both jazz heads and techno innovators. hes played with urs timeline with mad mike, carl craig to jazz great marcus belgrave. i wanted to make something that could be the theme song for a detroit summer regardless of where you re going or coming from, jon said. i wanted to create a song that was perfect for cruising down jefferson heading to belle isle, or being stuck in downtown traffic after a game. jon dixon took something so familiar to the people of detroit and transformed it into a piece the world can dance to.
