manni dee might be best known for his upfront techno tackle on perc trax and the like, but he s also been quietly building up a separate identity as nuances, and it s a world away from his dancefloor output. following on from some choice album appearances on bastakiya tapes, it s up to tabernacle to give the project its first outing on wax. while tabernacle can have some range in their sound, this finds the label plunging wholeheartedly into ambient climes. heavily processed textures and delicate chimes all feed into a truly evocative atmosphere loaded with significance. ignore the familiar name behind the music - this is an album deserving attention all on its own.

time for a little recognition� pets welcome a true polish techno founding father to the fold: jacek sienkiewicz. dj since the early 90s, producer since the late 90s and one of the earliest artists to stamp their country down on the techno map, jacek was one of the first polish producers to be signed by the likes of trapez, cocoon and klang and laid down the foundations for the likes of pets founders catz n dogz several years later when they emerged as 3 channels. og status confirmed, hes remained just as consistent as he is influential. this single is proof: �su17 is a bubbling sine cauldron that starts with a simmer but builds to a boil with its ever-morphing, lava-like flow. expert drum momentum and sudden layers of instrumental help to create a fluid three-track-in-one experience that spellbinds you crowd for the entire eight minutes without realising. �mustang is a cascading synth odyssey that gently rises and falls like an escher looped staircase. gradually building in momentum with more of jaceks signature hypnosis flare, its not until the drums double up with an almost live-style visceral feel that you realise just how high jaceks taken you. it comes complete with a star-lit switch from berlins serial innovator tobias, where the synths are deftly refocused and a whole layer of orchestral delight are layered within.

for the past two years, nils frahm has been building a brand new studio in berlin to make his 7th studio album titled all melody, which will be released on january 26th, 2018 via erased tapes, before nils embarks on his first world tour since 2015.
since the day nils first encountered the impressive studio of a family friend, he had envisioned to create one of his own at such a large scale. fast forward to the present day and nils is now the proud host of saal 3, part of the historical 1950s east german funkhaus building beside the river spree. it is here where he has spent most of his time deconstructing and reconstructing the entire space from the cabling and electricity to the woodwork, before moving on to the finer elements, building a pipe organ and creating a mixing desk all from scratch with the help of his friends. this is somewhere music can be nurtured and not neglected, and where he can somewhat fulfil his pursuit of presenting music to the world as close to his imagination as possible.

flip the plate and there�s another couple of gems. �v3r5u5� continues on from where �clu5t3r� left off, progressing the mood into a more ethereal space, building layers of pads and texture as the track developes, rising and ramping up, before pulling back and dropping into a rolling rhythm. closing up the ep is �h4ndcuff3d�, which takes the mood into a more dramatic backdrop. chilling pads swell up from the ground like mist in a graveyard, while the broken rhythm sets pace, creating a moody ambiance for those moments when you want to take a dancefloor into mystical, other-worldly territories. dramatic and energising!

silent season tap up antenes for a rare 12inch, building on the sizable impact her last and only release on l.i.e.s. had back in 2015. here we get three trips into dark, evocative techno territory as you would expect to find on silent season, leading in with the doom-laden march of dream uncreates the land. take me to the birds (for a) ditches the drums and heads straight into the most delicate and stirring of ambient pieces, while metra train chicago 1000x- makes use of field recordings and processed static to make for an even more immersive listening experience. this is a daring release that eschews the need for functionality to take the listener somewhere else entirely.

remastered 2017 version of the 2002 thump mix with a new version on the flip, played with band and the addition of live instruments.. the legendary german house label needs (not wants) returns after a long hiatus with a new release on the exclusive gold edition that is set up for revisiting their own classics to upgrade them with brand new versions and re-interpretations. walkin thru circles - originally produced by lars & marek bartkuhn - has always been a favourite for many of their fans. the original thump mix is a constantly building mover that is based on a massive beat, hypnotic soundscapes and highly energetic chord hooks, ready for taking off to outer space. for the full expansion lars has gone back to the studio to recompose and re-record the whole thing over again, combining the skills of some excellent session musicians with lots of live instruments, drum & percussion and vocals all played and sung by the producer himself. the result is a complex, epic and fearless jazzfunk odyssey, both musically expansive and heavily grooving at the same time.

the third release for la freund recordings comes from amsterdam resident beraber. consisting of four strong and diverse tracks and a jazzy, piano-heavy remix by chicago house legend vincent floyd, sun ritual works just as well in the club as it does at home. after working on hiphop and downtempo electronica under different aliases, this ep sees baris akardere venturing into up-tempo territories, marking the debut of his beraber moniker. all tracks were written and produced during the last two years, combining digital instruments like the korg m1 and yamaha dx7 with analog gear like the roland juno-6 and korg ms-10. kicking things off on the a-side is title track sun ritual, a positive and warm tune with lush chords and arpeggiated synths. after a surprising outro, it gets the remix treatment by deep house pioneer vincent floyd, who adds multiple layers to it and delivers a stunning, dreamy eight-minute take on the original. the flipside opens with ugly, a soulful club workout with a deep bassline, rolling drums with crisp hi-hats and a hypnotic melody. next up is introspect, a serious electro-tinged cut with heavy juno chords building up tension as the track evolves. rounding it up nicely, forest rain treats us to an intimate broken-beat affair laced with rhodes chords and field recordings from bali.

first off, there s up and coming austrian producer demuja, who gives can you feel the love a super deep and funky treatment, brimmed with disco percussion, lush pads and a tight drum pattern. dimitri from paris & dj rocca pair up to deliver an erodiscotique dubstrumental of right now of the highest grandeur bouncy drums, detuned synth stabs, a tropical piano and thined out vocals while going crazy on the handclaps to full effect. nico lahs also takes on can you feel the love, building a classic sounding shuffling house beat around a cheeky string sample that really suits max voice, and really shimmers in the breaks. german combo volksfreude remix hard tons tessio with a full on dramatic house flavor, exploring max vocal in full around a plethora of soft synth strings and vivid acid sequences. v limited press with hand stamp label & sticker.

dusk & dawn is private agenda s most conceptual work to date. sat at a grand piano, the pair composed two nocturnes over the course of twelve moonlit hours, chronicling the allure and mystique of the night. building on an emotive pop foundation, developed over releases on international feel and their own nightshift imprint, dusk & dawn is a deeper sonic exploration that pays closer attention to ambience and sound design. dusk is an enchanting take on new wave pop, referencing talk talk and early simple minds. a drum machine beats a half-time groove while a dusty but characterful synthesizer pulls the track towards it s cathartic dream-pop apex. dawn draws on contemporaries like imaginary softwoods and croatian amor, bringing the listener down to earth into lucidity. beautiful arpeggios soar over reverse guitars, wistful lyricism is coupled with detailed ambience. a blissful meditation to ease you into the day. remixes come from faze action, ron basejam and ian blevins who all add their deft to touch to dawn and offer up flavors from different corners of the dance floor to this adriatic / balearic influenced piece of music.

for those unfamiliar with the atipic releases, it may seem that buenos aires� jorge savoretti has chosen to swim upstream on the latest atipic installment. as for a trained ear, the apparently bipolar approach, elegantly touching quite a few electronic influences from different decades, has a cohesive unity in all the 3 tracks presented. hidden under the sharp cut filters from the happy side a tune or building the groove to be unleashed in full swing on side b, it is up to the dancefloor characters to find these elements. rather unconventional, yet totally subjective, atipic004 is a proof of concept on how different angles can generate twisted and unexpected perspectives on modern electronic music.
