22 digit ltd is the vinyl only off shot of uk based 22 digit records, and this new release is upfront house music in the style of artists like mr. g. this 22 digit ltd release is a collaboration between uk stalwart moodymanc and label boss william welt with solo remixes from appleblim and alland byallo. moodymanc also known to many as dubble d, is a manchester based artist who boasts seminal releases on labels including tsuba, local talk and 20/20 vision among many others of a similar calibre. william welt is a young artist who now based in manchester, cut his teeth in newcastle upon tyne, and has releases on labels including traum and construct. the first of the remixes comes from appleblim, whose bass heavy sound has been a regular feature of imprints inclouding r&s records, aus music, tempa and skull disco. second of the remixes comes from alland byallo, who has previously released on labels including third ear, get physical, poker flat, moodmusic, dirt crew and rawax.

rather than rely on their usual full band, live performance, one-room live single recording session, the making of �dragonz� was a departure for the apples. a multi-studio project spanning three continents, they assembled new instrumental tracks based on loops created in the studio and presented them to a wide-ranging selection of vocal collaborators to complete the picture with, and applied this method to the capturing of longstanding live favourites as well. the concept of a �vocal album� was implemented on non-vocalist songs as well, treating the omnipresent turntables� sample work not as the central element to the band, but rather its frontman. though containing disparate influences, guests and production methods, �dragonz� is undeniably apples, might be their most focused lp to date, and it is certainly their most middle-eastern. elements of the region�s indigenous genres have always been present in the band�s work, but never has their influence been as pronounced.

astral dust is a 4 song excursion bridging the styles of derek michael and marshall applewhite. this project stems from a live recording of a set performed by michael in 2002. after being tucked away for almost 15 years, the recording was found and sent to applewhite who dissected the performance into fragments and breathed a new life into them. while some portions of this release are distinctly sludgy, the majority is a perfect amalgamation of both michaels and applewhites hard-edge, melodic borderline idm styles. the digital release will feature 2 digital only sub cuts from the sessions.

penelope is the 2nd installment from the ag & john robinson ep series produced by ray west. this time around they call on the prolifc west coast wordsmith blu on the title track �penelope� where all the emcees are painting verbal pictures of their own personal dream girl, this track also features frequent collaborator dave dar. the soundscapes provided by ray west are ill collages of jazz loops, live horns, percussion sounds, vintage drum machines and more. each of these recording sessions were labeled �tea with the butcha� by the collective and it truly does describe the essence of the sounds and conversations on these recordings.

gidge is a production duo consisting of jonatan nilsson and ludvig stolterman. based in the northern parts of sweden, gidge quickly built a solid fan base with releases of their albums autumn bells, lnlnn and lulin. the music of gidge seems to affect their audience in an emotional way, which eventually resulted in the duo taking the top spot as best new artist at xlr8rs readers poll, as well as having the 3lps ending up on numerous end of year lists. their main source of inspiration is the vast, snow-covered woodlands of the north. gidge have for instance recorded all of their percussions in the forest, using only the sticks and rocks that can be found there. for seoul though came about after the duo went on a trip through asia, and spent a number of days in the south korean capital. they fell in love with seoul, and later on created this two-part hymn for the giant city. applescal created a remix for the track, which you can listen on the b side.

santiago leyba makes his vinyl debut on the label following the rooms tape released earlier this year. recorded simultaneously, life, money, work shows the new york-based artist by way of albuquerque, new mexico, portraying the different characters one might have in a broken mind. sketching a strong criticism of america by means of disorienting vocals and slow-paced d.i.y. electronics, santiago finds him performing alter-egos of sorts � ranging from forlorn ballad singing, to more guttural and strained barking seeking to describe a conflict in maintaining a unified persona. paid labor, sex, and consumer goods. how america tells you to grow up when there is nothing left but complacency and oppression through economic and social means. it all goes down to the shortcomings of humanity, the tangled webs we weave, the impossibility of justice and fairness, and the pressure those things put upon ourselves.

the sixth release in this series of eight opens up with alexander kowalskis remix of lydia to the edge of panic on the a-side. kowalskis version is a pounding techno monster, with a heaving baseline and delayed chords, hinting at a more sinister dimension beyond the edge of panic. trolly routes (aka. oscar mulero) remix of miscellaneous pt. 7 on a-2, lulls and hypnotizes with an acid-tinged interpretation of the original track, that nods to the plus 8 school of techno. the b-side kicks off with jeff rushins remix of little green apples, pairing the spacious and beautifully gloomy background atmosphere of the original track with a heavier version of its rhythmic framework. the final track gives us the re-mastered original version of confort corpse, which displays christian morgensterns uncanny dedication to exploration and his love for the 80s.

appleblim�s third 12&#8243,,, for tempa touches on the sonic territories explored on his first 12&#8243,,, (the experimental and amorphus �wandered� from tempa101) while expanding on those ideas. the first track �minus degree� is appleblim at his most experimental. a beatless affair of sparse soundscapes and atmospheres. full of tension, and crucially no release, you are swept away by the waves of synths and sub bass. next track �move them� is more traditional appleblim - 4x4 and dub techno chords build a sense of momentum over the space of 7 minutes. a traditionally leaning techno tune with a uk twist, appleblim�s use of space and tension will keep any raver entranced. final track �twist it down� rounds out the ep with a subtle roller. broken drum patterns and bright synths help in stripping away some of the darker undertones prevalent in the previous tracks.
