german producer and dj boys noize has announced the release of his much-anticipated cover version of adamski and seal’s 1990 rave classic ‘killer’ on 12&#8243, vinyl, via the vinyl factory and boysnoize records. featuring vocalist steven a. clark, the original 12&#8243, version is backed by an instrumental, both of which you can listen to below: as boys noize says: “being a ’90s kid i kind of grew up with this song which later became one of these tunes i’d play out at the end of the night. when i met steven and heard his voice for the first time i immediately thought of that track and the idea of doing a cover version was born. it was initially just for fun but it turned banging and lit the dance floors wherever i’d drop it.” adamski and seal’s original represented something of a breakthrough for both the producer and vocalist, spending four weeks at the top of the uk singles chart in the summer of 1990. speaking to journalist dave simpson in the guardian in 2013 seal explains the impact the song had on his career: “within a week, i went from being a relative nobody – this weird guy at raves, with silver bits in my hair – to a household name.” boys noize’ ‘killer’ is out now on 12&#8243, vinyl, limited to 500 copies.

making his return to the label after last year s springtime favorite, everlast, is dorsi plantar. better listen s twelfth entry in the main run marks their first repeat of an artist, and the copenhagen man does not disappoint. tack farsan is a balanced sample-driven ep intended to milk the last of summer s flavors for the dancefloors enjoyment. the top side hosts sunny disco affairs in the release s title track, and a polished collab with label mate sune. the logo side, on the other hand, explodes into deep latin affairs.

2lp , full sleeve, as always with hell yeah, the next release comes from an artist label boss marco fell utterly in love with before forming a close musical relationship. his name is calm, and this summer he releases his eighth studio album, by your side. it is an effortlessly evocative long player and magical ten track trip into soothing sonic waters, glistening harmonies and horizontal rhythms. calm is legendary japanese artist fukagawa kiyotaka, someone who has been making deep house, ambient and downtempo grooves since the late nighties, and always teasing spine tingling emotions out of his machines. his last album—2015 s from my window—cast a real spell on marco and encouraged him to reach out. the pair eventually hooked up in tokyo and found real musical kinship while playing records together.

aeva conjures up images of our world laid to waste. having picked up wide and varied support on his debut 12” dramatic sunset, aeva returns with his superstars ep, a trajectory marking the implosion of a star turning supernova as euphoria dovetails into paranoia. summer draws to an end and the melancholy imprint of unfulfilled potential begins to rust as the smell of wet concrete fills the air. this is massive life.

cliff music kicks off with a four-tracker featuring the aussie slamb, french boys vitess & mangabey, and last but not least leipzig’s finest, luvless. the a-side starts with a melodic summer anthem “minor secret” by mangabey, followed by slamb’s house-driven disco bomb “why stop now”. on the flip side, luvless provides wobbly synthesizers over crunchy drums and grooves. vitess closes the ep with a 90’s and 2step reminiscing dancefloor hit.

perc trax slips out its first cheeky white label in over two years, pulling together two secret weapons from perc’s sets this year. first off perc trax newcomer tymon rips into perc’s own “hyperlink” giving it a shot of adrenalin which has been eating festivals alive all summer.
on the b-side ansome returns to perc trax for the first time since in infamous british steel release twisting manni dee’s “london isn’t england” into a grinding mass of kick drums and percussion, layering ewa justka’s vocal over one of his rawest productions to date.

next up in this ongoing split-ep series are two equally talented producers from different ends of the spectrum, both sharing their unique viewpoints on that special dreamspace of self-awareness and how the way there actually sounds like! following his explosive figure-ep just this recent summer, juxta position now reveals his more sublime side on these two technoid journeys. keeping it raw and beautiful, the analogue lover lets his synths engage in dialogue, floating through murky realms and simply getting lost in the groove. a new face for figure and definitely one to watch is pablo mateo. taking a likewise subtle yet distinctly more grounded approach, his tunes unfold slowly and each tell their entirely own storyline. tomo is an extraordinary specimen of how a track grows past its confines, into something genuinely touching and can eventually open up that space inside and what lies beyond!

this is what happened when keimpe koldijk (one half of bebe fang) and wouter venema (musician and visual artist) locked themselves up during the summer 2011 in a 14th century church in the village of blessum. this frisian village, in the northern part of holland, consists of less then 100 inhabitants. in this tranquil and withdrawn environment the musicians recorded their improvisations on the church organ (which is the second oldest in europe)... accompanied with subtle electronics and a few other instruments... the result is a stunning experience of free spirited music ... meditative soundscapes, lo-fi ambient music and drones including accidental recorded sounds of the surroundings during the sessions... all of this has a charming lo-tech and -live- feeling which only enhances the listening experience... turn off the lights, light a candle (or a few), lie down and let go.

as the timing appears to be right while summer just made it’s entrance it seemed only appropriate for the release of another single.
the idea behind the release was conceived when digging for records through paris while touring a couple of years ago during a conversation with a vinyl monger discussing 70’s pop-funk pakistani composers.
since the inspiration as well as the records sampled for both of the tracks were picked up from the “city of lights” it seemed only appropriate for mononome to finally collaborate with parisian label and long-time friends stillmuzik for a release.
“loralai” evolves around a feel-good uptempo groove emphasizing on the sample while “besima” is based mainly on mononome’s characteristic drum sounds, leaving an essence of psychedelia in the background.

tommy rawson releases are sporadic but always high quality. as a former member of the souled duo who ran the excellent fresh minute label hes been around the more tropical end of uk house and broken beat for many years and this, his first full release for bergerac ushers forth a new level in his sound. this whole record is a masterclass in post bruk, forward thinking, shining, bright uk dance music. unmatched in emotion and vibes. deep blue is quite simply the sound of the summer. sun drenched, euphoric and soaring. broken but not broken, 4/4 but not quite housey. jazzy, soulful yeah. it was the highlight of red rack ems olive grove closing set at love international last year when it provided the most halcyon of moments. live trumpet from vicky flint and a whole bag of vibes from tommy rawson. this is a classic. trust. past tense is a super tropical african tinged house stomper which shows tommys love of sunshine vibes once more with acres of space, insistent chants, dubby pianos and a tinge of jungle roller bass. the final track into the future takes us into almost blade runner-esque orchestral emotion but with a kind of balearic feel tucked in there too. beautiful, lilting, emotional memories. you can feel so much love in this track. such a special record. buy it. love it. treasure it.

for his new release on nona records brooklyner max ravitz changes the formula again and delivers five spirited acid electro tracks. the ep will be out at the end of august supporting his european summer dates. for the past several years ravitz has been keeping up his production of house and techno music via different outfits like inhalants, masks, or pulpo and most notably patricia with his last year’s release – an epic 3lp record – ‘several shades of the same color’. his recent effort called ‘free lunch’ explores one of the directions presented on the album, however this time adding more color in the palette.
