perez is one of the new faces in the french scene and has been so since 2013 when he released a first ep (perez, dirty/kompakt) and played concerts which caught the attention of the press. perez claims to have a taste for singular electronic pop and the music he produces certainly is. his records collection has albums by christophe and bashung standing next to pulp and suicide ones, among productions by the dfa and kompakt labels. for his second album cavernes (to be released in february 2018 on his own record label etoile distante), perez has collaborated with berlin producer and friend strip steve (boys noize, clone royal oak, waxtefacts). on this one he delivers a particular sound combining a story-telling singing sometimes verging on the fantastic with electronic club music. but perez does not only write songs. after being artist-in-residency at the palais de tokyo (paris), he made a sound installation in 2014 for the villa noailles in hyeres, france. he also composed for the scenographies of contemporary artists dominique gonzalez foerster, saâdane afif or ange leccia. in 2016 he was awarded by the drac and was given the opportunity to compose basing his inspiration on pieces of the collection of the regional fund of contemporary art.

amsterdam-based duo dj windows xp provide the next ep for live ones, serving up apple infused, sample driven rhythms that ll pop cherries you never knew you had. the pair have previously offered provoking selections on dj haus imprint e-beamz and the amsterdam based who s susan to high acclaim. the biggest contradiction is that none of their music is actually produced on a windows computer - and quite rightly so. what will come next from the duo depends entirely on whether they finally decide to perform that software update.

andrew scott, aka nyak, scott has remained a consistent representative of the music scene and we re delighted to have him on board for the first release of 2018 on local talk, bound ep. we re treated to four tracks, the opening track bound is a cut up, soulful disco house slammer. next up we got dancing, a perfect example of andrew s skill when it coms to slowing down the tempo but still letting the track have enough character to keep you dancing. on the flip we got see more which takes you straight to a dark and gritty club with it s stuttering chords, tight drums and pulsing bass. last but not least we got sandwiches which features long time collaborator ian blevins. a stunning low deep groove for any theo parrish or marcellus pittman fans out there.

beginning in the early 90s, emmanuel top became france s first techno superstar, even if his popularity was greater in countries like germany and england than his own. he released a multitude of 12inches on the attack label la pipe a eau, krankenhaus, ecsta-deal, stress, turkish bazar, and many more many of which are compiled on the triple-disc release collection from 1995. top s next step took him to nova mute alongside heavyweights like plastikman. in addition to his solo work, top also collaborated with bruno sanchioni and bruno quartier in the mid to late 90s as the trance act b.b.e. (seven days and one week) and also as age of love (the original age of love).

200 copies - vinyl only - giant records sees in the new year with a killer ep from a bright new producer from poland, by the name of, mariuz kryska, mariuz offers up two peak time grooves here with remix duties falling on, sascha dive and giant head honcho grant dell. the first track up is low jam, which sees the original mix dive into a deep drum lead swing reminiscent of old todd terry beats, that have gone before, all topped off with a spoken word and tight hats and rides. next up is sascha dive - giving low jam a slowed down dubby feel with some sweet dubbed-out stabs that evolves into that deep house sound that sascha has mastered over the years. next cut is no perspective mariuzs original mix is a relentless bass heavy work out which weaves around some slick west coast gangsta rhymes and detroit style strings and pads. grant dells take on no perspective leans on the detroit style pad, from the original and adds some off kilter 808 beats that sit nicely along some smart 303 stabs and the gangsta rhyme which then merges into a slick techno jam with added breakbeats.

the identity of belgian mystery man beton is a complete mystery to us. what we do know is that twin turbo owner/assistant webmaster tiga has called this record the best release of the past five years. even when you consider that tiga believes he experiences time differently from the rest of us, that still means the soundtrack of your life for the past half-decade has been straight-up garbage in comparison. since most djs wont even listen to a record if they dont like the track descriptions, we realize a lot is riding on the next paragraph. acid-electro bomb directions is a collaboration with wevie stonder, who call themselves an absurdist electronic music collective, which youd have to agree sounds like a lot of fun. meanwhile, keep breathin completely redefines the term pump-bumpin pumper, and features vocals from dance mania ghetto house legend dj deeon. twin turbo keeps puttin hot mp3s in your pocket, offering maximum value for your hard-won digital nickels. as far as we know, youve earned it.

the next collaborative release between freeride millenium and pauls musique is a terrific two-tracker from manchester artist joseph louis harland manning under his new alias los angeles with the 7? vinyl release artwork designed by daniel rajcsanyi as part of his ‘baby exhibition in austria. joseph louis harland manning was the drummer of the band wu lyf and is involved in projects like los porcos, the mancunian boyband menage a trois and dream lovers. under his other aliases he released on aficionado, cracki, ocean records and is it balearic? sub label u?ber as well as having made music videos for molly nilsson. here he is fine form across a pair of delicate and moving synth tracks. opener ‘lamour is a gentle cut that starts with celestial chords and wide-open expanses of synth before a buried deep groove slowly comes to the fore. breathy vocals also add to the loved-up, dreamy feel and the whole thing carries you away in a majestic reverie that shifts from ambience to new age house. the track features the artists own field recordings from the streets of berlin, twisting up sounds from the sidewalk into percussive notes that give an organic feel. the perfectly soothing second offering is ‘i wanna go to heaven is a gorgeous synth piece that suspends you in a crystal clear blue sky on a warm summers day. chords are smeared and stretched whilst angelic, wordless vocals drift by. it is the sound of a blissful passage to the afterlife and will leave you feeling cleansed.

the ecstatic sounds of a fruit machine spewing out winnings or a computer game bleeping a player upwards to the next level chirp and bleep all over ‘true beauty (and other things), a jubilant and chaotic tape from philadelphia’s nah aka michul kuun. his first release under new alias michul kuun, the seven track album lurches between church bells, angsty video game chimes and battered drums (kunn pummelled drums in punk band 1994! in the past). there are flashes of mutated house and techno (“threes, threes, threes” and “written house”) as panicky, stammery rhythm structures are built up, battered down then kicked around. “taking station” seems like it’s going to be the most mellow, almost melodic jam, then rounds off with a solid minute of air horn, before exiting on what sounds like a motorbike through a swooshing traffic for jittery finisher, “follow thruu”. - claire sawers, for wire magazine

up next from the rhythm büro label is an ep from cyspe, who might be better known as robin koek or for being one half of the almighty dutch techno duo artefakt. rb003 marks a special occasion for the label in releasing a full ep from a single artist. “after this world” seems to proceed forward fittingly on the same path once paved by cyspe’s debut record “amnesia”, released on koek’s own label, insula, in 2014.

inner surface music is proud to present its next release from canadian duo mdd. falling inside opens the ep bringing together industrial and punk prototypes of the duo’s influences in the shape of a techno stomper. chunky kick drums and gnarly textures fizzle and pop to the march of the industrial rhythms before the low slung bassline and abstract vocal cuts take the track into a darker realm. tension builds and welds together heavy broken kick patterns with crisp but rusty percussion demolishing everything in sight. the elements amalgamate together creating tension with walls of sub bass, while remaining spacious and nonchalant with glacial atmospheric pads, dropping and breaking like a thunderstorm overhead.

the third installment from barcelona’s nitsa club record label digs into uncharted territories. if the first release was a strong and balanced mixture between ebm and minimal techno and the second one paid a heartfelt and honest homage to detroit electronic heroes, sau poler’s ‘orchestron’ decides to draw a line between emotional melodies and techno rhythms while keeping a strong peak time momentum. young producer from badalona who already released on labels like atomnation, modern obscure music and lo recordings, sau knows how to build a banger with soul without being too cheesy. with an insane pulsating baseline, some high pitched synth swirls and a crispy rhythm that resembles a krautrock drum machine, ‘orchestron’ will be played a lot during the next months.
on the b-side there’s a remix from estrato aurora. 50% of lontano, legendary electronic band during the early 00’s in valencia, jaime romero takes away the cheerful playful disco that made him famous to a psychedelic and obsessive deep techno.

we had a little pause on our release schedule, but without further delay we present with pleasure the next bomb by our good friend, dj spider! thema 46 was hatched from someone so deeply ingrained in the underground that he barely needs an introduction. from his ra label of the month featured imprint plan b recordings, to his thoroughly played productions on labels such as rekids, killekill and the trilogy tapes, dj spider has been a mainstay on the murkiest, most disorderly dance floors for years. his sound is characterized by disjointed elements lurching around in a off-kilter yet magnetic way that forces you to move in ways you didn t know you could. from the hell scorched, pitch bent echoes of the final revolution to the lo-fi groove antics of distress signal, dj spider proves once again that no one can do it as perfectly weird as he can. text by: nathan levenson

xoa continues to lay out a formidable interpretation of african-infused dance music for the modern age, following on from lauded appearances on shake, one house and soundway. alongside contours, he comes to banana hill with some next level transcendental head-quaking business that reaches from the roots of afrobeat right through to contemporary fx dubbing business. -too much talking- is a proper eyes-closed roller for the hazy moment in the dance, and -express- ramps things up to a strident tempo layered with a barrage of congas and djembes. the hectic pace is offset by swooning melodies, all wistful synth splashes and plucky guitar chops, stirring the soul as much as the feet.

queen (extended)- is ten walls s first release for memento records. this 8 tracks album on double vinyl is a vivid depiction of the lithuanian artist top-notch production skills, his wise use of subtle melodies and harmonic progressions, as well as his pointed dancefloor instinct.

as one third of the lisiere collectif, andu simion learned early and often how to take a dancefloor on a hypnotic, grooving journey throughout the night. now he’s standing solo on the next release on eric cloutier’s palinoia label, delivering four bubbling, seductive house grooves for any hour of the party. from the evolving -heavy glow- to the proper house banger -gen y all,- this ep is a sure win for anyone looking to get a little sideways.

following our first release with opal, which aimed at the dance and the bodies, we wanted with this second ep to reach to people’s mind. as a geneva-based techno label, it was fundamental to work with our local hero: opuswerk. he’s already been working outside of the country with artists like francois x and labels such as arts, semantica or dement3d. it was time we involved him in our project. through this ep, opuswerk clearly shows what he knows and does best. much like his dj sets, he connects dots and layers in unexpected ways, like a rhizome connecting different multiplicities. inspiration for the original tracks came from designing systems of independent yet connected sounds, where events are triggered, un-triggered and alter other events, each behaving on their own. as one of those elements, the artist acts as a guide, directing them from one place to the next acting as and with the machines. the -mot d’ordre- is about becoming one of the machines, blending techniques with vibes and catching them like ever escaping dreams. the result is two uniquely sounding spaces, either filled with raw energy like on extensum or with subtle and serene ever-evolving bleeps on spatium. those two extremes are fitting to how we want present the multiple dimensions of our artists works to the world. the same logic went into choosing the remixers, with whom opuswerk had a human connection with. inland and antigone need no introductions, having both established their sound on labels like countercharge or token. each brought their own re-interpretations of the original tracks bringing them closer to the dancefloors.

the next release from sol asylum was uniquely crafted between julie marghilano and illustrator olga olkaosadzi&#324,,,ska. in this collaborative effort each artist found inspiration in each others work to create and finalize their vision of this release. conjuring beats from the mpc paired with modulated violin and synthesis, julie added a modern twist to the music that originally inspired her to create electronic music. expect the unexpected with the ep titled mercury jasmine and open up your imagination to what flowers would sound like on distant planets.

following on from a hectic summer touring across the globe, ny producer joeski returns to the studio to create his next release, due on crosstown rebels in 2018. the release unfolds with the original version of i want you - a fierce, driving beat is juxtaposed alongside the sensual and smoldering vocal as the bassline rumbles on. pure 4am, fist pumping pleasure. the flip side introduces the disco mix of the title track. but don’t let the ‘disco’ lull you into a false sense of security. the track is fuelled by intense industrial sounding smashes and an abundance of layers that creep ever closer. a founding member of nyc’s the chocolate factory dj collective, joeski has been a staple in the underground scene in new york since 1991, holding down a residency at the city’s famed nightclub- roxy. he’s played alongside the likes of danny tenaglia, louis vega and roger sanchez. his career has seen him release on electrik soul, siesta, chez and camouflage as well as launching his own imprint maya records in 2001. this year, the prolific producer has juggled a jam-packed touring schedule taking in australia, new zealand, south america and europe, as well as ibiza for do not sleep and misfits.

the was/is crew have proven themselves to be dab hands at burrowing away at the hidden folds of the 90s electro scene and finding some truly unsung heroes worth of a reissue. following on from excellent work supporting the likes of archetype, the us label can now be found shining a spotlight on the work of can oral under the 4e moniker. originally appearing on labels such as force inc and mille plateaux, 4e s sound was quintessentially mid-90s, but only surfaced over a short period of time between 1994 and 1998. this record originally came out on sockett in 1996, and it s been sought after as avid diggers pull out every thread of dope, adventurous electro they can find. discogs pirates laugh no more, because now this essential record is back in the hands of the real music fans!

next up on francis harriss newly-founded record label kingdoms comes something very special from brooklyn-based film composer, songwriter, producer and performer leah lazonick. movimenti della luna doro (movements of the moon of gold translated from italian) is a four-track ep from one of the most exciting musicians and performers around - a beautiful quartet of contemporary classical music with a twist. lazonick is something of a polymath, having composed and conducted orchestral and electronic scores for short films and commercials as well as being a classically-trained pianist. lazonick is also a connoisseur of analog synths and vintage drum machines, and will release a second ep focussing on these passions during the course of 2018. here we are treated to three luscious works for piano and string quartet, written for a one-off performance at studio off interarts, an art gallery in montreal. the piece was performed in a forest-like immersive environment, and was originally called in a forest (a piece in three movements). lazonick performed the piano parts along with a string quartet she had assembled for the performance/recording. lazonick explains: as opposed to most of the other songs/compositions i have written, i have no concrete sentimental story behind writing this piece. the motivation, inspiration and overall idea behind composing it was of a more technical nature, attempting to relay the music in my head at its purest form, without any compromises, by primarily making use of melodic and harmonic dissonances whilst still keeping the content captivating, musical and continuous.

once upon a time, there were two very difficult people who loved music very much. they loved music so much that they stayed together despite having clear signs that it was not necessarily the right thing to do. they made music together, or next to each other, and everything that happened, happened in the music. it was all whatever, but they still like it.

rrose and lucy need little introduction as heads of eaux and stroboscopic artefacts (respectively), their influence on the direction of techno in the last five years is undeniable. rather than crafting a style to be imitated, they pursue an approach that welcomes unpredictable results, with the intention of stimulating uncharted areas of the mind through sound and rhythm. the first lotus eaters collaboration appeared on stroboscopic artefacts in 2016. for their follow up on eaux, the pair go deeper into lucy s analog modular forest, searching for those essential elements that will yield alchemical results. inner membrane undulates with ring modulated tones that stretch like liquid metal, patiently building up dancefloor energy with only the barest of percussive elements. on the b side, inverted limb takes a similarly minimal approach, utilizing two tones, a bass drum, and hi-hats to maximum effect. the ep closes with seeds of discontent a swirl of feedback and noise that is both soothing and unsettling, leaving us wondering what will come next

faze action records, (far), next release unearths the disco wonder of unreleased music by andromeda orchestra. the lead track has been expertly remixed by legendary dj nick the record, extending the percussion, bass, keyboard sections and then teasing in the vocals towards the end to turn the track into a peak time disco burner which sits comfortably alongside disco old and new. on a2 we have high steppin which see s andromeda orchestra heading for a more stripped down instrumental track, tight percussion and keys drive home another floor filler. b1 we have the original mix of get up & dance, staying true to a classic disco arrangement. with b2 ,andromeda orchestra exit with a more laid back funk/disco groove perfect for the warm up.

the next ep on raum musik is coming from our dear friend jorge savoretti. jorge is hailing from argentina and is one of the main artists in his country besides franco cinelli. we have been following jorge s work for quite a while and now it was the right match as for our label. we are very happy about this release and we hope that you enjoy the tracks as much as we do.

the second outing on his midnight themes imprint, marlon hoffstadt touches on featherlight acid, proto trance and jacking house across three tracks, also brimming with sub and dub. fresh from recent releases on hot haus, ransom note records and his own retrograde, marlon hoffstadt is reemerging as a defiant staple of dancefloors far and wide. with his newest release, the berlin producer encourages listeners to engage with the music without the parasitic interferences of 21st century life. so for the next 20 or so minutes - screens off and blinds down to enjoy some pure awareness.

the next chapter in shaw cuts comes from russian duo poima, who celebrate their debut record twin blades of doom – a fierce revenge mission and hunt after the infamous ghost gang. the pursuit opens with triglau , its linear machine groove levelling a fraction of the ghost gang. heads roll on a crimson floor. teaming up with mysterious masked warrior inland, triglau morphs into a hypnotic trip. pushing drum rhythms and swirling pads combine with nasty noise elements, propelling the hunt. the remaining enemy members are already hatching their next evil move. on the way to lu he village where the ghost gang plans its next assault, analogue break-beat punches and swinging percussions weave a menacing tapestry of sound, crushing the bones of rogue creatures in its path. serbian slayer regen arrives in force for the final showdown at qi dou town where the ghost gang plans a huge heist. armed with atmospheric pads and a soaring drum crescendo, his interpretation of bones ends the ghost gang tyranny in one fatal sweep. and the saga goes on...

next up on ruff stuff music ltd are 4 killer, heavily stomping tracks on the boundaries between house and techno. untitled05 is a new and fresh evolution of the label, bringing to life a solid sound with warm and intense atmospheres, including a magic remix by dj honesty. inside the storm opens side a with an imposing groove and hypnotic stabs, definitely flashing for the dancefloor. dj honesty s remix with its unique groove and the samples manipulation, goes in a deeper direction but still strong and energetic. the b side is full of surprises with mistake a track with a raw sound featuring incessant 909 toms, piano stabs and vocals that definitely recall the vibrations of the 90 s. a home with no air represents the true soul of ruff stuff, a warm house track with female voices, stabs and a fabulous organ that will transport listeners to another dimension. just put the needle on, push play and dance! vinyl only, limited copies.
