the reality is a relative concept, and our life is made up of fantasy and illusion. our music is the key of our thoughts, and our sound can help us to discover it. nothing is real express our vision in a period where information is false and manipulated most of the time. alberto iovine and alessandro fumagalli aka modular project announce the launch of their new label, in partnership with rebirth records. born and raised between como and milan, alberto and alessandro quickly shared their love for electronic music and the great passion for vintage synths and drum machines. they started to produce together in 2012 and released on labels like off, moodmusic and perpetualis music before joining rebirth in 2017 with their remix of the blond:ish classic wizard of love. the label s third release is a special ep from modular project. alphaville is an hypnotic journey through shades of indie electronica, new wave and their signature sounds, while another glimpse is a beautiful emotional slow workout. the package comes with two strong remixes from nuno dos santos and fairmont. amsterdam dj and producer nuno dos santos reworked alphaville adding a darker and trippy touch, while jake fairley aka fairmont, key force in the canadian electronic music scene, gave another glimpse a beautiful deeper and atmospheric appeal. a strong third release for nothing is real.

in early 2017, the young australians from parcels may have only released a couple of tracks and yet they are already being compared to »humanized daft punk who would decide to jam along with steely dan and frank ocean.«
the self-produced hideout ep was created over two years. what remains in early 2017 is a unified piece, an ep that is essentially pop but which shines in a unique, exciting and down right groovy light. as a first completed release from parcels, the hideout ep covers a lot of ground.
tracks range from driving electro thumps to softer pop taps. but what is clear in the end is that parcels bring a unique brand of pop music and deliver it with infectious and emotive dance: »already the musicians have made a statement with their harmonious feel-good funk-pop.« (the 405)

man power returned to his northern home for one last waltz. this is their joint offering for the esp institute. on side a, man power welcomes us with tistish, stepping slightly out of his comfort zone and employing a boxy breakbeat to create a dose movement. this contrasts his signature fatty bassline and together they establish a ground on which to stack layers of atonal square and sawtooth waves. about halfway through he introduces a massively seductive string lead and for the remainder of the ride this palette of sounds coalesce in dark orchestral beauty. on side b, man power’s cohorts last waltz deliver nee shitteru, a true stomper of a track complete with in-your-face toms and off-time percussion patterns, an intense driving acid line, and aggressive shamanic chanting. throw in some crash cymbals, sci-fi sound effects and a smattering of gamelan and it amounts to an overwhelmingly chaotic and psychedelic trip. these two songs will have you speaking in tongues.

following the success of last years playgroup ‘previously unreleased’ album and its critically-acclaimed run of nine weekly 12” vinyl eps, trevor jackson has compiled a second volume of 20 tracks (11 unheard and 9 previously vinyl only) released as a limited edition double cd and 6 track vinyl sampler on nov 3rd via yes wave records. the music featured is a collection of reworked demos and unreleased recordings. a hedonistic mix of raw disco, dub, funk, dancehall. electro, new wave & post punk that all still sound as relevant today as they did when initially recorded for the debut playgroup album during 1997 - 2001.

pierre bastien is a french legend that has collaborated with artists such as robert wyatt, jac berrocal and jaki liebezeit, to name just a few. he is also very well known for his compositions based on home-made mechanical instruments, designed and constructed by bastien himself. pure diy. using these instruments he would create a heady experimental mix incorporating poetry and some far-out music, all in all very intriguing and original indeed. needless to say when the notion of pierre bastien and versatile records potentially making a project together arose, it was a total honour! throw into the mix esteemed electro-acoustic composer eddie ladoire and now we ve really got something interesting. eddie and pierre met when they appeared on the same concert bill together and they decided to collaborate further with versatile being the platform for the fruits of this particular project. the original version of phantom dance is a beautiful piece where bastien plays a trumpet into some water blended with electronic drums and mellow organs lines, creating an otherworldly, subterranean jazz vibe for the freaks. suzanne kraft, the la native / amsterdam based producer turns the original into some mechanical broken funk vibes while rotterdam s oceanic delivers 2 fresh, reimagined versions. one for for the club with a strong afro beat feel while the other one is a slower affair for the after hours. both mixes bringing something new to the table. a truly original and interesting release from some very talented people, for those with open ears and open minds!

make believe disco, the energetic younger sibling in the sleazybeats family of labels, continues to provide quality modern club jams ! this time they welcome ouvrijster to the make believe disco fold. ouvrijster might be dutch for old spinster , but we re not dealing with some old hag with edm aspirations here. a fresh face from amsterdam s bustling scene is behind the moniker, making his debut on the label with a three-track affair that ticks all the right boxes: sample-heavy disco gear, dusty basement beatdown and some proper mahogany vibes make for a killer ep.

the apparition of spanish female duo las grecas with their gipsy-rock sound in the 70s created quite a boom in the spanish market at the time and paved the way for other similar gipsy-rock duos. morena y clara were one of them. launched by bizarre flamenco producer lauren postigo, they released a string of 45s and three lps (highly sought after now) for the discophon label. they mixed rumba, flamenco, psychedelic rock, funk and disco music featuring an amazing production (heavy drums, fuzz-wah-phaser electric guitars, moog, hammond) over the wild flamenco female vocals of the duo. featuring their psychotronic hits like no llores mas, deje de quererte, buscando alegria and more.

future music from new kanada s frontman adam marshall. sometimes its hard to categorize certain tracks and these ones are from outa space. it reminds me a lot of the time when we all discovered the first playhouse records from isolee, losoul and soylent green. magic moments which at first listen maybe not seem to work on the dancefloor because they are too challenging, but if you find the right moment they gonna work wonder…tip!

new york city based further reductions is the live project from husband and wife shawn (aka vapauteen, 400ppm, let er est) and katie o sullivan (aka rose e kross, ppg). back in 2014 they released their gorgeous debut album on cititrax records. the album was an adventurous trip, where they pushed forward a unique sound. after all those years there will be a follow up to this ep on knekelhuis. expect a fusion of different sounds, grimy and pretty at the same time.

after the tease on the label’s latest va with their track “envoy”, scalameriya and the label boss vsk return to crs ltd with a 4-tracks ep. the duo has already proven to be a prolific team up in the past with releases on perc trax or power vacuum and with “helix ep” they continue to develop a fresh vision of techno, once again delivering tracks that represent a perfect symbiosis of their individual styles. without any fillers on board, this release showcases peak time tracks with instantly recognizable synths, sound design and theatrical breakdowns.

the prolific mc, producer and musician oddisee’s new album ‘the iceberg’ is a plea for humanity to dig deeper in search of understanding and common ground. his third release in just 12 months, ‘the iceberg’ is a distillation of stereotypical tropes in hip-hop and beyond, 12 tracks about money, sex, politics, race and religion that appear superficial until his multi-dimensional lyrics unfurl to expose the complexities of individuality and identity: how we see ourselves and how others see us. deeply soulful, and shot through with jazz, go-go, gospel, thick r&b and hard beats, the album is a timely, poetic statement.
lead single “things” acts as a mission statement for the album, a deep dance groove with lightning-quick lyrics about “things” he’s going through. says oddisee, “we all go through the trials & tribulations of life. why is it we feel the need to individualize our shared experiences? if only we could see our concerns as others do, maybe they wouldn’t be so serious.”

enter the dragon. adding mystique to the techno are these pulsating, arpeggiated, snarling beasts from the italian producer with an ominous-sounding remix by heinrich mueller aka gerald donald of drexicya. track titles refer to the journeys of the sky dragon (a1), yellow dragon (a2) and dragon king (b1/b2) as they soar and serpentine majestically underwater and beyond the clouds

robert rental was the stage name of robert donnachie (1952?2000), a british pioneer of post-punk, diy, and industrial music. originally from port glasgow, scotland, he moved to the south of england with thomas leer in the late 1970s where he met glenn michael wallis. glenn was recording music with the group heute and leaving to start his solo projects nkvd and konstruktivists. both were heavily involved with throbbing gristle and the industrial records crew. in the summer of 1979, robert invited glenn to his studio in battersea to jam. robert on guitar and glenn on an edp wasp synthesizer. for each session that summer they would play for about 40 minutes, maybe longer, stoned. robert suggested they record it, many times erasing and over recording one session for the next. the music had no titles, as they were never intended to be released. on these recordings, robert enjoyed playing like robert fripp of king crimson, while glenn channeled wolfgang flur of kraftwerk. influenced by krautrock bands like can, neu!, cluster/harmonia, as well as terry riley and brian eno the duo forged a unqiue brand of industrial music. tape loops and synthesizer sounds played backward conjure dark ambient moods. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the lp is housed in a jacket that features a drawing by robert rental from glenn?s archives as well as a handwritten note from robert to glenn. each copy includes 2 photo postcards featuring a transcription of robert?s letter and liner notes from glenn wallis.

i made music together with lee for years (alongside mick rolfe) as last waltz. he also worked as lizards with james hadfield (james released solo for me me me 02), oli worriner, is a talented young northerner who’s already making a great name for his solo output, both under his own name and his traela alias, as well his label “tunnyl recordings”.
i’m really flattered that they’ve let me release their first full solo release, and i love how they’ve brought out each others deeper and more emotive sides in these 2 tracks. shit robot is a hero of mine. i basically wore out the grooves on a bunch of his dfa stuff from just over 10 years ago, and i’ve avidly bought everything he’s released since. i met him this summer for the first time when we shared the bill at a festival, and was so happy to find that he’s also lovely guy in real life. they say you should never meet your heroes, but i don’t subscribe to that as this meeting led to not one, but two fantastic remixes for me me me 08. the originals are a bright mix of melodically analogue left leaning house, while the remixes zero-in on a punchier dancefloor vibe, with an epic version goodnight, as well a more heads down disco dub.
so yeah, links within links, and keeping it northeastern again i guess.

alex ferrazzi and matteo keemani a.k.a. blue mondays, longtime laterra friends and collaborators (with releases on sonar kollektiv, rebirth, snatch!, memento, manocalda as well), strike again. they do it, as usual, their very own way: shades of balearic flavours in there, but with a very dark and malicious twist. marvin & guy add some disco nuances (keeping it raw and obscure, though), while nick anthony simoncino delivers a solid, strict, gloomy dancefloor affair. no frills, mad quality.

the passage ep brings together two of the chief champions of far reaching sounds in aybee, and lars bartkuhn. bartkuhn best known for his work with his iconic (needs) imprint, and aybee for his boundary pushing ethos at (deepblak). a project spawned of mutual love, and respect the two met at an impromptu jam performance at the xjazz fest where the seeds were planted for further collaboration. committed to stretching out beyond tight parameters they sought to capture the spirit of the dance. as the astral walkers- they set out to combine the fearless freedom of the jazzfunk era with the endless possibilities within electronic music

the founders of delirious eyewear and katnip met each other through the exchange of music and fashion. they became close friends and as you d expect this would lead to this unique product you re about to preview. heavy on the downtempo italo disco, dub and soul cuts, once again ldk provides the listener with an exquisite track selection and also found the privilege to introduce a fresh newcomer in the scene called juno on vocals and some hot keys by thomas van dijk. the releaseparty for this album will be in milan with an exclusive liveshow from de kat including the whole band. something to look forward to! tip!

> it felt like a long wait for us, but finally we can present the first artist on our label xxx, jack pattern<. with great honor we introduce to you this collective consists of three producers who live and breath deep in the heart of switzerland. they delivered four diverse and atmospheric stellar dance floor tracks with serious hints to the late 80s. this first vinyl only release on xxx, will be accompanied with custom made artwork by patrick van vliet. patrick s work has evolved from pop surrealistic, psychedelic imagery to a dutch social realism. he incorporates social annoyances and public degeneration from day to day life in his images. these images seem familiar but alienate. alienation by disrupting the familiar with uncanny elements and deviant colors. a perfect mix for this release. xxx is a new label that combines music, art and club nights curated by shmlss. every artist they invite has the freedom to fill in the x.

for ws021 we head to italy where we find a duo by the name of concret aka italo-mexican musician diego angelico escobar and producer q-pha. together, they submit a couple of ethereal, stripped-back and driving techno tracks that compliment each other so well they appear to be brother and sister from the same session. on remix duty we ve got another italian, rodion, who ads his signature sound to ritorno and flips it into a laid-back dark groover. last but not least is uk s heretic, aka timothy clerkin, who remixes andata into a classy acid burner fit for a massive warehouse party or dark, sweaty basement.

fallow presents his debut ep on the freshly established chow down label 6 typically epic and emotive tracks from the semi-infamous manchester-based dj & producer. on side a fallow serves up 3 gigantic grime instrumentals with all the bravado, theatrics and outrageous samples the genre has to offer. the tracks are as cinematic as they are energetic, weaving pulse sounds, choirs and dreamy sino samples into breakneck dance-floor gear to great effect. on the flip fallow adopts his dj chalice moniker to explore his softer side. still bursting with colour and melody, the tracks are as indebted to sunny dancehall records as they are a raw uk sound. peppering carefree mallets and flutes with angelic chipmunk vocals, chalice still captures the producers unique ear for bold melodies and vivid sounds.

having crept out of the tape undergrowth and respected haunts like clan destine and always human to earn more civilized recognition on bank records nyc and bliq, strahinja arbutina makes the move to vivod for yet more of that edgy, leftfield techno business that keeps mothers awake at night from worry. the grit, noise and distortion has been faithfully carried through from the cassette-based roots of arbutinas sound, but these tracks are more than ready to do the damage in the dance (where you re less likely to find a tape deck). hold on tight as the likes of way ahead give the sound engineer a fright when they think the system has overloaded.

sunstrumental is a double single of two neck breakin, raw, dirty, mpc cuts. it s a nod to the boom-bap school but at the same time also breaks that dogma with fresh current details. instrumentals that many mcs would love to jump on but it s even better they didnt. sunstrumental is the first solo vinyl release by sunnysun, but expect this to be just the beginning of what is to yet to come. sunny is an all-round player: established as an mc (croatian freestyle vice-champion), he lately shifted his focus more on studio work and djing. he created the first mixtape of exclusively slovenian rap music selotejp, his beats underline the lyrics of numerous mcs and appear on compilations like stiropor, ctrl n and btf x rx:tx. all in all, an unorthodox whiz never afraid of gazing into different directions, never limiting himself to just one side of hip hop. truly one of the key players, linking the various clans, posses, crews and cliks. these are his beats.

reginald omas mamode iv has a terrific track record thus far. since delivering his debut 12inch back in 2013, hes barely put a foot wrong, with last years intimate friends released mini-album, all together, being a particular highlight. this debut full-length is every bit as impressive as youd expect, with the peckham producer relying a little less on dusty samples, and rather more on loose, live drums, rubbery bass guitar, dreamy rhodes keys, and other luscious instrumentation. as usual, the assembled tracks effortlessly join the dots between jazzy instrumental hip-hop, neo-soul, mauritian drum workouts, broken beat and humid, tropical-tinged grooves.

with the 10th release milestone on the horizon for dext recordings, a new ltd 10inch vinyl sub-label kicks off with 2 heavyweights at the helm. special request (aka paul woolford) and bodyjack are 2 artists who completely embody the label s ethos, and they each provide something very special for the first instalment of the series. say no more!

moodoïd is a psychedelic rock band founded in 2013 by pablo padovani, the projects leader and mastermind. early nicknamed the new prodigy of french pop music, pablo wrote and conceived a first very peculiar, pop and psychedelic album. they notably toured with phoenix and played with renowned musician and producer damon albarn. soaked in psychedelic pop and world music, the songs written by pablo padovani evoke just as much os mutantes tropicalism, connan mockasin dreamy atmospheres and gong progressive liberties.

all flowers in time is the debut album from space captain, built around the themes of love and nostalgia with a pinch of bitterness and betrayal. with intricate arrangements of fluttering guitars, sparkly keyboards, and cyclical layers of background vocals, all bound together with dreamy indie-pop melodies for a sweet curve-ball of a finish, this beautifully crafted release takes the brooklyn 7 piece to new heights. extensive influences range from thundercat through amy winehouse to bon iver, but space captain are never anything but themselves, as this release shows. it sees the band moving away from the electronic and experimental sounds of their previous ep, instead taking them back to when they first formed, whilst also pushing the boundaries of their familiar r&b realm. for the band, all flowers in time quite literally signifies the flowering of their careers and the work they have put in to get there

following the success of the last split release from label bosses adam shelton and subb-an, one records deliver a heavy-weight remix package of self control/ only now from perlon favourites melchior productions ltd aka thomas melchior and akufen aka horror inc. a standout release for the label, original tracks self control and only now are masterfully reworked by melchior and akufen who both utilise the distinct vocals from isis salam to deliver two monumental tracks. one records have enjoyed forming a bond with melchior this year, inviting him to play at label showcases in barcelona for off sonar and gotwood festival in the uk. they look forward to inviting both melchior and akufen to upcoming label parties.

“never change a winnig team”. that s what radio citizen s niko schabel must have thought when he decided to release his fourth album once again on sonar kollektiv. after the success of “the night & the city” (sk310lp / cd) from 2015 and the productive collaboration ever since this seems like a wise resolution. schabel s idea to retrieve to a mountain cabin in salvenberg, tirol with his band and tons of equipment turned out to be an even more crucial factor to the cause. here they could create and record new songs and bring them together neatly for the new album. the 13 tracks assembled here on “silent guide” are – each on its own and in its entirety anyway – best proof how wonderfully this approach has worked out.

the r.d.m. band, with singer milton campbell, were from maple shade, new jersey and recorded two virtue singles in 1969. they released their final 45 on the obscure zoom records label in the early 70s. “give up” and “how can i get in touch with you” can also be found on the tramp records album “virtue recording studios”.

in 1996 serotonin label heads selway and szostek went to moscow to perform at the invitation of &#1055,&#1058,&#1070,&#1063, magazine. synapse performed at the -waterclub- and met the legendary dj compass vrubell. they went to his -studio- where he had perfected the art of making entire tracks out patterns on the yamaha dx-5. szostek brought a dat of these jams back to nyc and schmer-003 dj rx-5 -a taste for crap- was released as a small run white label in 97. the run sold out and disappeared to be forgotten forever... until 2016 szostek casually mentions its existence to techno uber-nerd nina kraviz who just had to have it for her -fabric 91- cd. so dj rx-5 was back from the ash heap of history and schmer got a new release from him on schmer07. then schmer got the word out far and wide that they d like a remix ep for two of the originals: compass provided stems because like a miracle he still had the patterns after 20 years. heeding the call were pointsman, tripmastaz, steve stoll and schmer s own bpmf. so this is what you get: -a taste for remix-. it will leave your lips wanting more, for sure!

in it’s original form waiting for you to call secured radio plays on 6 music, radio 1, jazz fm and various regional specialist shows, plus the track got playlisted on rinse fm. these remixes will appeal more to club djs and will fit in with house and nu-disco sets from a broad section of djs. it’s been a while since any artist has secured a remix from derrick carter and the hmd boys are thrilled that the world famous chicago dj has honoured them with a remix of their debut single - and he certainly doesn’t disappoint. dc is on top form here with his epic mid-tempo house interpretation that keeps the soul of the original track whilst giving it some extra dance floor dynamism. with nods to classic 90’s remixes from frankie knuckles and david morales this is one for the connoisseurs and ravers alike. the hmd boys with the help of luke solomon create a dubbed out and more pacy version of the original on the flip side with their remix and they report that it’s been going down a storm in their sets from output in new york to recent gigs in glasgow, berlin and manchester. with a brand new track featuring the vocals of amy douglas set for february and a radio 1 essential mix to be aired on december 23rd, the hmd sound is going from a steady canter to a gallop.

fouk might have been curating outplay since 2013, but their butterfunk ep is in fact the duos first proper ep on their own imprint. its not that theyve been resting on their laurels: they ve drip-fed a handful of eps on the likes of heist and house of disco over the past few years, and released solo efforts on kolour ltd and razor n tape that stormed the charts. it s been fascinating to see the dutch pair slowly break the mould, moving from heavy sampling in favour to an emphasis on original instrumentation and production. the butterfunk ep is fine showcase of their prowess in the studio, loaded to the hilt with contemporary dancefloor funk. things kick off with the rolling drums, off-beat percussion and seriously infectious hammond lines of organ freeman. title track butterfunk is aimed squarely at the hips with its smooth keys and perfectly placed vocal, while some acid lines give the track a little edge. flip over for the bumping wong way, a chunky workout with a rubber bassline. the finale of the ep is winter, a fantastic slice of 80s inspired downtempo mushroom jazz.

remastered edition, contains a printed inner sleeve and 4-page 12inch booklet with liner notes and photos. tip! after a classic artistic journey and an experimental stint with aktuala and other brilliant fellow musicians (like franco battiato, above all), lino capra vaccina, near the end of the 70s, recorded antico adagio. it was an amazing album, anticipating countless future experiments in the field of new age and world music but also in avantgarde and electronic music. apart from a few violin parts and the extraordinary vocal lines (sung by vaccina himself and juri camisasca), antico adagio is an album fully built on percussions. but, at the same time, it s the farthest thing from the typical idea of percussions. you won t find a single trace of african or primitive beats: instead, this is a collection of rather long, subtle and thoughtful compositions, crafted with vibraphones, marimbas and gong. together they create a work which will remain unique both in capra vaccina s discography as well as in a more general sense.
