after the world applauded sascha funke for his latest album lotos land, he gave away some tunes to friends for remix duties. düsseldorf based tolouse low trax formed twirl into a foggy dark mpc-seducer for romantic nighthawks that love dancing. also australian boy dreems prepared a remix that grooves odd and uncommon. his percussive version of im feiern und feuer is a slow whirlwind, perfect to start and end a great dj night. with tuff city kids a duo formed a remix that is good for big room love affairs. their version of purple hill is a heartfelt melange between trance and house deepness that works on any dance floor. the final edit comes from glasgows junto club, who transformed comola, a tune that they already produced originally with sascha funke, into a longing dark melodic synth stepper. four versions, four hits, four atmospheric dimensions beyond words. tune it loud!

today, we are glad to introduce you to our tone series remix series. one and a half years after the launch of the parent label, tone series has released five eps (consisting of two tracks each), all composed by french musician david k. and almost halfway between the first release ts10 and the last one ts01 (ts06 came out at the beginning of september 2017), we thought it would be interesting to ask artists we like to reinterpret one of david s creations.as a result, we re delighted to present you as 1st ep (tsrs01) of this tone series remix series: dipe (ts09) re-drummed by french music composer and dj traumer as well as winter bells (ts06) remixed by japanese artist tomoki tamura, both artists getting the ball rolling for this new soulful and colourful series.

you probably don t know this disco banger, i think there is about 4 or 5 known copies on 7inch, everyone who has a copy has been keeping it quiet. i first heard it from david haffner about 4 years ago and had been after it since then. after a lot of research i came to the conclusion the everyone involved had passed away, but months after giving up after i spotted benitas full name on another related lp credited as a backing singer. i was then able to track down benita who was alive, well and surprised and very happy to hear from me. this one is a beast and will fly out (i find myself saying this far to often).

lsd is an ongoing musical collaboration between longtime electronic music innovators luke slater, steve bicknell and david sumner focusing on psychedelic aspects of techno while emphasizing the cross-pollination of each members style and rhythmic sensibility. personal ties between the three can be traced back across continents and developments in dance music, with steve first inviting luke to play his legendary lost party series in london in the early 90s, resulting in mutual remixes for pioneering techno imprints cosmic records and nova mute. almost a decade later in the year 2000, dave, a native new yorker, befriended steve after inviting him to play limelight in manhattan. over the years, dave and luke would also have numerous encounters, first forming a musical bond in 2009, with dave later co-producing lukes early l.b. dub corp material (roller, 2013).

forgot 001 is the debut release from london based record label forgot. the compilation is comprised of four tracks by four different artists: harry orso, aka ratomagoson, was last year picked up by gilles peterson’s future bubblers project and has gone on to drop a succession of well received releases on labels such as twosixtysix, polyop and tru thoughts. forgot residents hoffy and joe s both come from beat-making backgrounds while phillip russel aka pila boasts an impressive catalog of material online. since its release campaign launched earlier this year, the forgot 001 compilation has received a wealth of positive feedback from a number of revered and respected djs such as dom servini, adam scrimshire and david hanke aka renegades of jazz. the release gained considerable airplay during the summer: dom servini on soho radio, risha on radar radio, selassie tbc & amy frenchum on worldwide fm, toshio maatsura on tokyo moon and adam scrimshire on balamii radio.

frits wentink s bobby donny label returns with a new ep from icelandic producer felix leifur. it s not often someone other than the boss releases on this label so you know this new one is quality indeed. leifurwho also works as david & hjalti and davíð sveinn bjarnason has two solid eps to his name on dirt crew. they show him to be a producer of succulent deep house and atmospheric prone beats. across four cuts here he offers jazzy vibes, organic percussive patterns and authentic styles filled with warmth and soul. opener unidentified blues is a loose jumbled of hi hats and cymbals, rhodes chords and shuffling drums that could well come from the studio of a certain moodymann. they are alive and enriched with real feeling from start to finish. hampton is another tender fusion of deep kick drums, tape echo and curious melodies all tied together by jostling groove that is beautifully incidental and unhurried. contact then brings more proper jazz drums to the table, with distant sax sounds and closely miced hits and spaces of cymbal all feeling loose and free as they suck you into their world. last of all, universal rim picks up the pace with a more rooted house groove, freeform percussion and wooden hits and trilling, echo drenched melodies all making for an intoxicating cut
