kyle geiger returns on his home label with a set of tracks designed to recapture the basic function of techno. it s music to sweat to at a party. additionally, this package aims to capture a sense of timelessness through melody interwoven with a pumping breed of techno rhythms. the title track, homecoming, starts with a bottom-heavy percussive workout, then presses forward with an array of slowly filtering brighter synth stabs. the breakdown sees an arpeggiated synth slowly overtake the rhythm of the track just long enough to build tension and bring things back to full speed. the verge is a very stripped back, drum track style cruiser, which builds tension with a rising distorted pulse sound filtering in and out. just as it seems that the back half of the track will carry on as planned, a running melody comes in and changes the direction of the entire track. the verge (beat tool) is identical to the original, but build for those a little shy about slightly more upfront melodies.

rising british artist alexis raphael has come a long way over the past few years since initially stepping onto the scene via jamies jones hot creations in 2011, since then raphael s name has graced the catalogue of leftroom, culprit, lower east, moda black and of course madtech where he returns to here. with such an impressive list of affiliations and an already noteworthy back catalogue under his belt, alexis is undoubtedly a driving force in the world of contemporary house music out of the uk.

up and coming producer, odd/even label boss and close stockholm ltd affiliate andre kronert arrives on figure with an astounding 3 track ep, completed by a deadly len faki dub. kronert has risen through the ranks yet stayed true to his reduced, warm and powerful sound strategy. the opening track g.i.a.n.t makes for a wonderfully tense opener, with its expansive dark sound design and deep dub kick arriving around the half-way point. this is countersigned then by two more energetic tracks in the shape of the throne room and fallen space, both pivoting over a fulcrum of classic synth hooks and carefully honed percussion. len faki takes the throne room into a different mental zone, with his almost tropical dub version, ensnaring a freaky pitched motif to accent and build upon andre s powerful original elements. classic reduction, and an ep of classic figure contemporary techno.

this is the first record of the modern house quintet, a french band who makes house music. it features two house-deep house tracks: * bosphore* starts with a piano loop and a deep house bass line which are steadily joined with several other chords, percussions and a jazz guitar. * venise* begins with a bass line and a piano chords which progressively evolve until the break introduces heavy open hit-hats and then, a flute pursues and concludes this deep house trip.

nice price deal !!! coruscating cut-ups yanked still dripping and yowling from the belly of the beast. dazzling and invigorating, scary and discombobulating. ‘psychic driving was a psychiatric procedure in which patients were subjected to a continuously repeated audio message on a looped tape, in order to alter their behaviour… often hundreds of thousands of repetitions of a single statement over the course of their treatment. they were also concurrently administered muscular paralytic drugs such as curare… the psychic driving procedure was a chronological precursor to cameron’s depatterning, involving massive doses of ect combined with similarly large doses of psychedelic drugs like lsd. the intent was to break down the subject’s personality — theoretically psychic driving could then be used with some efficacy in establishing a new personality’ (hanson records).

moresounds has left the training camp and is now at the controls of his own craft. a dub fanatic, he stays true to the techniques of king tubby, and from behind his desk sends dancefloors crazy with pinches of hip-hop and jungle in his authentic and energetic live show. this approach caught the attention of om units cosmic bridge label in 2012 before his debut ep on astrophonica in 2013. since then his music has appeared on doc scotts 31 recordings and has added trademark cosmic dub seasoning to machinedrums vapor city project. an impressive start to his career, echoed in fact magazines inclusion of the producer as one to watch in 2015.

moscow label grow continues in fine creative form, seemingly not sticking to a motive or trend but rather concentrating on the strength of character within the music it releases. for the labels eighth release the artist is berlin based the marx trukker, who over the last 10 years has been developing his very distinct sound and recent output on labels like pluie/noir, the untold stories, and most recently noorden, have all been especially impressive. now on grow comes the 4 track vinyl * heavens crackling*, from the title one is expecting something awesome, and the album does not disappoint, right from the off, the first track: * a time well spent*, begins with celestial tones ringing out and the performance develops with great synth work, enlightened and very enlivening, spring is in step and something is beginning. the record continues at such a level throughout, overflowing with rich tones, warmth, and raw sounding percussion. in the second track, * all the boating still a tide to go*, deep warm bass and strings reverberate, as if amidst a hot harbours summer, then the ethereal synths return as magical breezes of cooling wind on a june day. on the bside comes the title track * heavens crackling*, the tone has cooled, there is an autumnal vibe, extended tones of an eerie but reassuring nature provide the ground, from under which a molten bass flows playfully. the final track, * i do anything but its so cold*, as the title would suggest, again time has passed, gone are the warm relaxed echoes of the the opening tracks, winter has come, and a strong percussive energy becomes the driving force of an especially deep and more introverted last track. in heavens crackling there is an uncanny understanding of time passing and representation of being, its present in the patience and performance within every track, and the effect of the album, which seems, like the seasons, to naturally come full circle, is for the listener indeed to experience a time well spent. top marks for the marx trukker!

after making a great impression with its first ep, giant records serves up a second hot helping of house music from boss man grant dell, complete with fresh remixes by scottish techno stalwarts silicone soul. dell, also known as chicago transit authority, has been doing his do for 25 years now. as a dj he is at home in clubs in ibiza and barcelona as well as around the rest of europe, and is someone who always prefers to push his own brand of widely infused and influenced music than his own profile. once again here he comes up trumps with the emotive, glowing house cut ‘in your mind’. with a neat bassline and mid tempo house drums, subtle but effective synth smears add warmth and colour to the groove, whilst soul fuelled vocals add a real sense of personality. this is sure to get people grooving at any hour and comes with grant’s own space echo remix. as the title suggests it’s a more dubby and reverb rich affair with cosmic signifiers and sci-fi vibes pervading from start to finish. silicone soul need little introduction having been at the heart of real deep house and techno for decades on the soma label. their first remix is a darkroom dub - named after their own label - and is a seductively slo-mo and lazily unfolding house cut with languid synths that really suck you in. their lush hypnohouse mix is then a twinkling, late night bit of melodically rich deep house with starry skies twinkling above sombre chords. this is a patiently served but hugely alluring ep that is stuffed with plenty of tender feeling. one again then, both grant and giant have come up with the goods.

three tracks here evoking familiar feelings heard before but still somehow they all sound fresh and drag you in wanting for more. as if this wouldn t do it, there is first but, not last appearance for barba label by mighty jtc who needs no further introduction delivering a remix. this time he cleverly uses sparse but recognizable parts of title track which he then transforms into relentless floor shaker where detroit meets chicago, if any such comparison needs to be made. aquatic stuff !

2015 repress. its been four years since my last own ep on stockholm ltd. the main reason for this is that i have been surrounded by music that has inspired me much more than my own. this ep was written and produced with strict narrow frames and a huge amount of frustration. i was tired of waiting for the inspiration to kick in, then suddenly it appeared with a strength that i havent felt for long time. im now curious for more. while sketching the title track, >wyatt arp<, i couldnt get detroit legend, terrence dixon, out of my mind. terrence is a long time hero of mine, and an artist that always stays on the true side of what we do while most of us occasionally leave our paths. i had to ask him to do a rework. / par grindvik

kiko navarro has released on some pretty impressive labels. nite grooves, third ear and even king street sounds to name a few! which makes us very excited to have him as part of plastik people. kiko delivers us some straight up dance floor house killers, first track, bates dance has infectious strings combined with moody drums & rhythms that are reminiscence of early point g sounds that came out on basic recordings back in the day, kiko then follows up with a groovy hip shaking track called camon yo! which will certainly move any floor.

deep dark industrial ambient. a slowly evolving soundscape with boiling buzzing sounds, resonating through the dark world.the berserk was perhaps one of the world s best fighters, which in old norse time sworn allegiance to the norse god odin. before a battle berserkers excited each other up and occurred in bearskin or wolf skin, hence the word berserk. in the beginning of the battle they performed exceptionally talented, indifferent battlers, but in close combat they fell into berserk. then they howled like wild beasts, probably to frighten the enemy and incite their comrades and themselves, and then get into rages. a berserk in battle were said not to bother about any injuries, and was therefore until the enemy, or they died.

the 1st remix comes from berlin based markus suckut. a subtle angle is taken on reflect which makes the remix feel sustainable. just the perfect remix to include in his impeccable oeuvre. all the way from finland is analog devotee samuli kemppi, who takes care of the 2nd remix. samuli creates a sudden tension with builds up until the very end. a001, from amsterdam, turns the original reflect into a obscure remix with an perplexing 2nd half. a001s mysterious and quiet appearance is a paradox compare to his musical output. twr72 closes the ep with the bonus track *response*. a solid and barbarous answer to reflect. no words are further needed.

adesse versions started out as a re-edit series, with humble ambitions of releasing a couple of white labels, nothing more, nothing less. it kept growing with both original productions and remixes appearing. it didn t take long until tracks such as pressured, modal and justified appeared on charts and the records found their way to such esteemed people as derrick may, larry heard, gilles peterson and of course mad mats & tooli. since then it s been an ongoing theme with kevin gormans music, yes that s his real name. always well received and played by many.

bond commander petter b lands on planet rhythm with a bombshell record that contains 3 staggering originals and a fierce re:axis remix. the opening effort *cc21* is a rough repetitive pacer that will definitely turn some heads. *transporter* serves as a vibey yet evolving piece of work that builds up the tension but let s go every now and then. *protoportal* is yet again a repetitive grower with a somewhat less dark build as the opening tracks. re:axis closes down with a robust rework of *transporter*. belter record.

boddika s nonplus label will release a series of 12inches mixing classic source direct with new remixes. jim baker is a pioneering drum & bass and jungle artist who s been recording solo as source direct since 1999 (before then the project was a duo with phil aslett). on june 8th nonplus will issue a 12inch that has a blawan remix of black rose alongside the 1996 original. that ll be followed by a record featuring 95 cut approach & identify backed by a remix from demdike stare.

altered moods recordings releases its next vinyl ep octaves of energy. this threetracker by crawley, uk-based artist mick welch is a smooth, sultry adventure into the core ethos of amr music. mick is no stranger to the deep house sound. starting in 2002, he has built a strong following of fans in the uk, first with his elektrosouls mix site and shortly after that with his label of the same name. the -octaves of energy- release represents his latest foray into the deepness. -conscious field- kicks things off with a tambourine- and high-hat infused beat with rich, dark leads burbling up throughout, interrupted now and then by a wistful bridge with an echoing voice telling you not to be afraid. -mind force- is another laid back jam, with a bright, crisp cowbell intertwine with an accouterment of lush pads and silky leads. the final track on the flip side, octave 50, is the deepest cut of the three and also the easiest to work the dance floor with. with its sinewy, filtered pad and bubbly bass line combined with warm, warbling leads, it fits both in the studio and at the club.

i first heard of julixo when i put my hands on his fantastic ep called silas released on rauh 005. after that, i kept a close eye on the sounds he was posting, and when i heard rebho, i knew we were going to do something together. the warm synth line, together with the jackin drum patterns, were perfect. then came reflections, which fitted superbly with rebho. although slower, and maybe more introspective, you still have that warm feeling going through the track. we decided to go with life of crime on the other side of the record. much more aggressive in its construction, that track deserved a side on its own: modern techno at its best. i hope you will enjoy this nice versatile release as much as i do! best regards, philippe petit

after last autumn’s ‘knowledge ep’, héctor oaks returns to key vinyl with four more solid dancefloor fillers of the kind we’re starting to expect from the berlin-based upstart. now several records deep and with his fourth berghain set firmly behind him, these days his sound is about as honed and gratifying as skills from the booth. and ‘kepler 186f’ is the proof.
on the a-side “dissolve” sets its sinews to march on this taut, tough and punchy number. “radial clicles” then reins in the muscle a bit in favour of a more skulking, spectral slow-build. meanwhile on the b-side, “stone storage” sends cool cymbals and crunchy hats on a sinuous, calculated romp. leaving “avoid reality” to close in noisy, bombastic fashion. but watch out—this one’s a bit of a tease.

key vinyl don their scouting caps once again for another split ep featuring fledgling and debuting talents. first up is the plant worker. this french dj and producer isn’t exactly new to the game, but as the plant worker he’s been slowly journeying down harder, rawer trajectories—as the name may suggest. with a trio of eps out already, “iota 001” and “iota 002” continues his exploration into purer techno forms with two cuts of deep, probing, loopy floor material. then on the flip, key vinyl unveil the first works from masked newcomer transient x4. “lost in perceptions” is a jangling sic fi trip to techno’s bleak and pitch-black periphery, whilst “ways to space” sends its cosmic theme off for a spell in the basement, coming out as a monstrous peak-time send off.

singular records number 7 is finally coming this september and this time it is a new collaboration between brendon moeller and myself. you will find two very distinct sides, a physical one on a side with “phaser core” and “the fog” which are heavy driving grooves for the floors, then a more “trippy” one on b side with “travelogue 1 & 2&#8243,,,, cuts, taking you into deeper vibes. i had a very great time working on this project with brendon, and as it was my very first collaboration, it’s been great to share this experience with such good producer. i hope you will enjoy the result ! marcelus.

michigan native dj soko is part of a long line of great technical djs, musical innovators, curators and those who broke key artists and introduced acts that forever changed the landscape of the music scene. sokos ear and ability to put emcees in position for them to shine over the perfect production is never more evident than it is on his debut project released on his imprint left of center. dj soko uses his years coming up in the detroit scene, his experiences djing in his current home (the planet of brooklyn, ny) then blends both of those worlds together seamlessly. the end result is a gritty, boom bap rap album that is equally as soulful and introspective as it is rooted in a blue collar lyrical hip-hop aesthetic. *domino effect* is ultimately brought together by sokos deft cuts and scratches which elevate each composition and make them resonate with listeners even further.

after retiring from the jamaican police force arthur duke reid established his treasure isle liquor store and sound system in pink lane kingston and was crowned the undisputed king of sound and blues in 1956, 57 and in 58. the duke then moved into record production and after relocating the store to 33 bond street, he then built a recording studio on top of his new premises in 1966. according to the musicians and singers the wooden construction of the treasure isle recording studio gave the music a distinctive warmth and richness and with resident engineer byron baron/smithy smith at the controls, the sound of a bond street recording was immediately recognisable.
