this monster 1976 lp from nassau s munnings brothers aka beginning of the end is a stone cold classic. fact. well deserving of a place in any record collection! this, their second lp (with 1971s infamous funky nassau preceding it) features the brothers original, fresh sound a mixture of tough funk rhythms, bahamian soul and flourishes of jazz and rock is an extremely well executed and produced body of work. not surprising considering the band were one of the bahamas foremost musical outfits. the brothers musical backgrounds could not have been any more fitting, they cut their teeth playing regularly alongside the likes of nat king cole and count basie at their fathers well known nightclub the cat and the fiddle, what we get on this lp however is not jazz, but lean, melodic soul music! original copies of this seminal lp can change hands for 100 s on the used/second hand market and is a solid constant at the tops of the wants lists of record aficionados. the lp has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of miami s tk disco empire. now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, drenched in sunshine, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality. a truly classic album. sounding as fresh as it did almost 40 years ago. jump in the water!

opening things up, the sinister title track is a dense, winding affair built around staggered tribal patters and powered along with a brooding reese bassline. he/at’s “set openers” have become something he is known for and this is definitely one of his most dramatic. after that madness, “it’s impossible to describe the smell of a wet dog” strips things right down with subtly chaotic-timed rhythms and synth-work. kind of minimal...but not.
on the flip side, “a drama out of a crisis” is a straight-up new-meets-old techno stomper with early beltram-esq beats and modulated melodies, before the ep closes out with the rawness, “the man who made husbands jealous” is a tough acidic kind of work out with an infectious hook we think you’re going to like.

as our favourite victims head off to san francisco and their stateside studio of choice known as room g to put the finishing touches to their third lp, we have a beautiful little taster of what to expect in the form of the matching half ep.

niro perrone better known as simply niro, or easy to remember, alongside sibling and production partner elia perrone, has come a long way over the past few years stacking up releases on the likes of m50’s revered kimochi sound, sound of vast, memento and the dub, as well as releasing his debut lp on his unclear imprint. here though we see niro introduce a new chapter with his brand new label pads.
‘hands of shadow’ opens the release and sets the tone of the label from the very beginning with an understated melodic feel fused with raw percussion and a subtly evolving yet intricate structure. ‘inner space’ follows and wanders into dub territories with spiralling echoes, low-slung drums and ethereal atmospherics. title cut ‘pieces of you’ opens the flip side and lays focus on an infectious unfaltering groove via vacillating pad swells, sporadic jazz licks and a weighty 4/4 drive before closing cut ‘the spectrometer dance’ rounds it all off with some ambient vibes.

for the hundreth release on boxer recordings the label owners were able to find someone very special. someone who impressed and characterized them already 20 years ago when both were working in the groove attack warehouse responsible for packing boxes mostly with kruder & dorfmeister records and cds. peter kruder - known as producer, dj and one half of the electronic super-duo kruder & dormeister - delivers the perfect soundtrack for the 100th boxer anniversary party. stylistically confident hes crossing the areas of house, techno and dub and touches even the border of dubstep on the track the sign. the release with the plainly title boxer 100 is not a knockout nor a right punch - boxer 100 is a fleetingly skipping athlete whos strength comes from his verve. just like a certain mr.martiniq 100 catalog numbers earlier.

rhythm section look to poland once more for two of the most uplifting tracks of the year. earth trax (known for his productions as the phantom & one half of ptaki) and newcomer newborn junior pull two absolute classics out of the bag here that do what they say on the tin. both sax track and flute track centre around ecstatic midi melodies on (you guessed it) saxophone and flute! falling somewhere between the late night deep house excursions of ron trent (circa morning factory era) and more recent retro-leaning breakbeat driven output from the pender street steppers et al, the sax & flute ep is a masterclass in sustain-release. euphoria guaranteed - or your money back!

being pioneers with a new album created in no more than 6 months, the orb are bound to be exposed to fan expectations running high, while quizzical questions about little fluffy clouds and the good old times take over. it s especially jarring as the duo of accomplished soundsmiths alex paterson and thomas fehlmann has become known for its genre-bending curiosity and surprising sonic detours, exploring experimental soundscapes as well as club-friendly beats. the funny thing is, though, that whatever the context, you know a track from the orb when you hear it. case in point: cow / chill out, world!, their latest full-length offering - a masterful ambient album that branches out in many directions, but unmistakably sounds like the orb in either ear (and probably to your third ear, too).

after debuting their label with the return of headhunter, the trusik team returns with their second vinyl release from the ever-illusive ruffcut faculty member tremble. tremble has quietly made his presence known with reggae influenced tunes that are simultaneously roughly hewn, yet meticulous detailed in sound design. for trsk002, tremble gives us “too much terror”, which with all the daily attacks on civilians across the nations of the world, seems prescient. what starts out as sound system inspired roller slowly morphs into a technoid fusion of dread sub weight and dub techno chord flourishes. on the flipside, tremble simmers the tempo down to the 130ish range with “bwoy”. dancehall indebted sub detonations output cut vicious shapes while filtered rasta portents gradually build into a technoid climax. two killer sides for the concerning djs! for trsk002, trusik has incorporated artist ben ladieu’s immaculate pen and ink drawing into the overall aesthetic of the release. ladieu’s work is often dense, multi-layered and full of little hidden details that draw comparisons to 80’s diy punk flyers and zeke clough’s contributions to seminal dubstep label skull disco and woe to the septic heart.

here is a new member to the et family: utroid. behind this project goes the producer who was once known as funxiun and bs-1. the biggest difference between utroid and the former projects is that the music is less hectic as before. with utroid the music moves into a more minimal direction while keeping the raw beats and rough vibe. you could call this new beat 2.0 or acid beat…. what you get are dancefloor orientated tracks that range from rather distorted to trippy and spacey…

roberto auser is known for his wide range of sounds and releases on viewlexx and his own ausland label. next to that he is part of kaval (vrystaete). even though his releases until now go from italo disco inspired electro to exotica and dark jazz influenced electronics his production is always rather smooth. for enfant terrible he shows his raw and dirty side. “faceless future” is an old school minimal elektro record done with analogue synths with a real industrial and post-punk attitude. this record pays tribute to (early) cabaret voltaire, (early) front 242 and (later-day) le syndicat electronique. simply minimal electronics as it should sound… rough and unpolished…

frank & tony aka artists formerly known as adultnapper and anthony collins, respectively, are it again on the former s new york based scissor & thread imprint. first up -apprentice- is a well-crafted deep house cut with swirling, captivating pads that build to a climax. lamento with its sexy bassline, playing off the thumping drum programming and yet more swirling pads that they ve proven to do so well. lastly modest season is the sort of smoky, dubby, after hours house that swiss producer agnes was known for similarly, back in the day.

friends & relations is a freshly minted imprint based in peckham, a neighbourhood that has gone from run-down dump to hipster haven in the space of a few short years. the label s first missive comes from its founder and proud peckham-dweller, ali nebraska gibbs, a producer best known for his missives on rush hour and mister saturday night. it s a predictably strong release, with both -stop playing with my heart- and -keep what ya got- showcasing gibbs skill for turning rubbery disco and soul gems into tasty, club-ready house cuts. he s particularly good at teasing out tracks via judicious use of sampled loops, as the deeper and smokier closer, -rat boogie-, deftly proves.

pampa is ecstatic to welcome berlins mike denhert for his label debut. known for an uncompromising, heads-down approach to moving dance floors, whether as a producer, a dj, or in his live incarnation, mike has provided 2 original tracks that are as distinct as they are relentless, possessed of a cerebral quality that belies their tough and stripped back aesthetic. how close to be is a stuttering march of half heard and half imagined discourse, broken by bright synthesis which disappears before it can fully form, with the disorientating sonics held in check only by the rigidity of rhythm running throughout the tracks length. its both surprising and linear. dark and uplifting. me too is also a creature of opposing ideologies. warped moving jazz plays with static motorik patterns, automation curls around repetition, and textures change position throughout. bright keys warp, and swing ebbs in and flows out, all to an eventually breathless but ultimately compelling sum of these parts

zarenzeit is a band project by the label owners with lead keyboarder and producer george btp, also known as allstarr motomusic or dan piu. after several live projects back in the 90ies, the band releases its first full album as black inside with vocalist debra jones davis and sarignia bonfà. the lp infuses deep soulful house and 80ies funk elements, starting with the ambient house drift of time travel, which soon settles into a classic rare synth pop as 2souls, 1heart, while let them know they won blasts more into the spacy and light dancefloor. sarignia s lovely gospel version of talk about a child, ends the album on a spare, but no less grooving, note. quality house music not only for adults.

a partnership of epic proportions is about to go down. josh wink, an artist known for crafting some of the finest house and techno tracks of all time is joining forces with boysnoize records, leader on the global scene for over a decade. tying your techno in knots, josh wink’s “shoelaces ep” is set for release.

for the second and last ep of contemporary spaces remixes, dynamic reflection welcomes yet another batch of talented producers to the label. just like the first remix ep, it is a mix between household names, and up and comers. first off, it’s perc’s interpretation of glide. the uk based artist, who is known for his use of distortion and aggressiveness, takes it down a notch on this occasion. he has made glide into a echoing and glitchy track that doesn t reach its energy peak until the last couple of minutes. matrixxman takes overwith his biohazard mix of future existence, which contains a tensive synth, confined by a filter that gradually opens,and than closes again, retaining your attention at all times. on the bside, shdw and obscure shape reshaped the hunt to provide the first outright dance floor track of the ep. with its thumping kick and epic pads around the breaks, it’s bound to win crowds over in the club. dutch talent ben buitendijk also remixed future existence, in his own distinctive, hypnotic style. a deep, though energetic track with a very mature sound.

south african born, new york living brendon moeller, man of a thousand guises - including beat pharmacy, echologist and mono blanco - is a prolific producer known especially for his hard yet dubwise brand of techno. founder of the prolific steadfast label, moeller has releases on a number of excellent imprints including echocord and soul people. for zamzam, beat pharmacy indulged his deep love of heady dubwise, crafting two totally unique and uncompromisingly experimental tracks that provide a window into a singular creative soul.

the man known for his playful grooves, crafts house music like it should be - full of energy with sprinkles of fun. after releasing two digital albums on bandcamp, we thought it is time to give his music the medium it deserves: vinyl. you’re very welcome by the way.

hey everyone, dont be alarmed as we understand that you just heard of us a few weeks back. here we are again with another doobified doozie of a 12inch. from the furthest reaches of the canadian west coast comes a concoction by three well known faces that have a long history of working together, they prefer to remain anonymous for this 12inch for reasons beyond us. were not that good at keeping secrets and have a suspicion that you hear the rambling house that is emitted from this trio brings to your ears will recall something very familiar. johnny lumière and the triads, originally conceived as side characters of the adventures of t-bar and salary man cartoon (never published). the music was recorded during break intervals in the cartoon writing sessions (still seeking illustrator). file this under mystified house with a splash of sunshine. ps:weve been doing our own printed sleeves for the last few records from a really cool print house here in berlin. we think they look unique as they are a print/ fold out designed by our friend dave girard. people seem to be into them and figured we should say that as we are only doing limited runs of them.

debut release on the new kaleidoscope jazz chair reissues label. first release contains some beautiful and well crafted dubbed out techno by kit clayton with his 1998 deadlock tune originally released as the b2 on the 4-track unreliable networks ep (on silent servant s label cytrax ), it slipped under many a record buyer s radar. nearly 20 years later, now that electronic musical tastes have matured and expanded, the time seemed right to re-present, this lush, atmospheric, percussive work out to the heads, deservedly pressed on a full side of 12- vinyl. pussy clap was originally released on the remote label, set up by charles webster, and featured house music predominantly written by charles and neil tolliday, better known as nail. jorge felucca was the alias that neil used when creating the more dubbed out, techy tracks for the label. sounding somewhat like a deep house take on maurizio, pussy clap was also released in 98, but had since fallen into obscurity, and the time had come for it to be rejuvenated and polished with an amazing remaster by pole for the modern ear that is a dramatic improvement on the original

stoned raiders is the sixth studio album by hip hop group cypress hill. originally released in 2001, stoned raiders is best known for its two singles - “trouble” and “lowrider”. the song “kronologik” also summarizes cypress hill’s career from their debut movlp041 in 1991 until the album was released.

the martinez brothers cuttin headz returns with a new ep from the butcha, entitled 10001 and backed with two remixes from matrixxman. phil moffa aka the butcha is a new york city based musician, producer and engineer most notably known for his works alongside dj spider and anthony parasole for sublevel sounds / plan b recordings and alongside seth troxler for hypercolour. here we see him return to the fledgling cuttin headz imprint with his idiosyncratic take on raw, emotive house music following his destination void release alongside dj spider and brendon moeller last year. up first are two originals from the butcha, the first of which 99 prince st. lays focus on echoing atmospherics, snaking rhodes and shuffling dubbed out percussion while the latter, 6 hubert st. pivots towards an amalgamation an upfront organic rhythm alongside a weighty low end drive and wandering synth swells. to complete the package san franciscos matrixxman delivers two interpretations, firstly the acidized mix which as the name would suggest draws on squelching 303 lines layered over processed snippets from the original before the digital bonus transhuman mix closes on an arpeggio fuelled techno tip.

rhythm büro is a new record label based out of kiev, ukraine started by dj and promoter igor glushko. the büro first began as a local party series organised by igor, alexander pavlenko (aka na nich, widely known in the drum’n’bass world as sunchase) and vera logdanidi (aka vero). since the party’s beginning in march 2015, rhythm büro has hosted such greats as zadig, abdulla rashim, etapp kyle, eric cloutier, woo york, artefakt, acronym, steve bicknell and actress all at different non-club warehouse-like locations around kiev. a peculiar aspect of the rhythm büro team’s objective has been to maintain secrecy about the exact location of the party until a day prior to the event, when ticket buyers are then informed about the location via text message or email. the label was started to be the logical and progressive extension to what rhythm büro has established itself to be locally: one of ukraine’s prominent techno initiatives. for the first release of the label, na nich and vero have contributed two joint-produced tracks that are to become their first publicly available material under their current aliases. while a1 leans itself to the soundscape that is more or less typical for rhythm büro parties: trippy, hypnotic and transportive techno, a2 hits the floor with refreshing zeal, bringing an electro-esque break-beat under deep and emotive synth layers. the b side contains two remixes of the title track, one of which is thoroughly tailored by the dutch-born-berlin-based-duo, artefakt (mostly known for their releases on delsin, prologue and field) as well as a strong and heady remix by semantica records’ mastermind, svreca.

jonas friedlich, better known through mistress recordings and carl gari, releases his first solo 12- on molten moods. the versatile 4 track ep starts with the rather straight -bo s breakfast- that begins with a polyrhythmic 303 bass line leading into a catchy garage-ish chorus, kicking in out of a clear sky but fittingly. -bus driver- is a wicked trip, the combination of the long acid build up and a nicely chopped vocal bit is irresistible. a proven, tested (and molten moods certified) club banger, regardless of its rather untypical breakbeat. track number 3 called -praise your name- aces groove through perfectly cut vocal samples and a fancy reference to 90s hip hop and drum n bass aesthetics. the next and last piece on the record is the eponymous -deskjet-, which is inspired by friedlichs conceptual sound art installations using printers. here rather restrained synthie lines are underpinned by a powerful kick and psychedelic tape delay noises. the 12- vinyl is handstamped on both sides. mastered and cut by scape mastering. artwork by paul bernhard.

pau encinas also known as cauto returns after several years of apparent inactivity. his previous ep, 35/8, was published in 2011 via disboot. since then until now, he has worked on several collaborations and remixes. one of the reasons for disboots existence is to promote and release young and local talent. cauto, without exception, is an essential one of these.
from his first release on dj rupture’s dutty artz in 2008, pau has been developing his skills as a producer and talented musician rooted in his background in catalan folk music. the culmination of his musical evolution is the crystallisation of his new lp.

outofstock returns with another release, this time a two-tracker from timofti which is well known as being a part of audiotheque. after the great reception that followed after the premiere of this label, it was a tough job to have any material at least close to that one, but timofti lived up to the expectations and produced some of the most attracting sounds you would hear lately.

electric pressure is an athen s(greece) based label founded in 2015. the debut vinyl release features 3 hardware centered, acidic techno oriented tracks from worker/ parasite and a remix from clouds. worker/ parasite is an oakland, ca based artist, much known for his stomping acidic hardware productions. clouds tip in with a heavily sampled remix, balancing perfectly between techno and noise.

berlin-based producer lapien serves up an atmospheric three tracker on radio slaves rekids. also known as metropolis or one half of artefakt, nick lapiens last three releases have landed on finale sessions, fred ps soul people music and dvs1s mistress recordings. releasing on rekids, the multifaceted dutch artists next outing features three mesmerising cuts with the dusky a change is gonna come initiating the package using infectious hats, subtle sub-bass and an indistinguishable vocal that ebbs subtly in and out of the mix. as it is is the most robust number on the package with its undulating percussion and moody chords taking centre stage, until vexed concludes everything with gloomy pads, shuffling hats and echoing effects.

orbe label is back with number 006, fernando aka orbe him self and label owner hit us now rescuing an old gem from the 90,s made by damon wild sinewave new york honcho label & steve stoll main head from proper nyc and an artist who is already familiar and part of the orbe crew since 2014. the well known track - we left the planet - released on the golden years is coming back! but now including exclusive and functional remixes from orbe him self and the sergeant major spanish techno eduardo de la calle . the 12- plastic certainly will go direct to many record bags worldwide. both remixes have a very high grade of modern character maintained the freshness from the original track but mixed up with new and sophisticated elements. this are two large pieces of rare techno indisputably. essential record for those who love pure techno.

few would challenge the claim that the 1960s and 70s have been the most fertile two decades in the history of popular music ever - a period which, regardless of genre, laid the foundations for everything that has followed. what is more, this period was so fertile that the speed with which tastes changed left a colossal amount of incredible music to gather dust - perhaps most famously a profusion of funk, soul and jazz. it was a musical legacy that lay mouldering until the rise of sampling in late 80s hip-hop precipitated a mad scramble for lost crates and suddenly, the music that became known as rare groove - for obvious reasons (it was rare and very groovy) - experienced a phoenix-like rebirth. a quarter of a century on and a million funk, soul, jazz-funk and rare groove compilations, re-presses and re-releases later, you d think that cupboard was bare and yet, even now, there are gems to be found. pt is re-releasing the rarest of cuts that often were originally only limited runs or private pressings and new compilation down & wired is just such a collection. always soulful, this features everything from mod groovers and northern stompers, to funky bumps and latin heaters. yet while the quality of all cuts is immediately apparent, only one of the eleven has ever been previously been compiled because when pt do rare, they don t mess around. in fact, if these tracks were steaks - they d still be walking around eating grass.
