any disco dj worth their weight in vinyl knows the name donnell pitman, and until now this has been mostly due to his highly sought after work of the late 70s and early 80s. renewed interest in donnell has reached critical peak over the past few years, fueled by red greg’s feature of donnell’s seminal “love explosion” on joey negro’s under the influence vinyl compilation series and chicago’s numero group putting out long forgotten, unreleased boogie bangers “burning up” and “taste of honey” in 2015.
it was this refreshed enthusiasm that caught the attention of producer kumar mcmillian of chicago-based disco ensemble wings of sunshine. kumar’s group was looking for another vocal collaborator following their 7” debut release on star creature records. a casual introduction led to an informal studio session between the two culminating in a modern disco masterpiece.

i discovered benoit b through his own label - banlieue records. he’s part of a new breed of young french producers who make music without any hang-ups and that are inspired by the entire history of house and techno and everything in-between. i liked the combination of club beats with a deep, super melodic approach. the 6 tracks featured here almost make up an entire album that reflects benoit’s skills and sense of production. everything is here -from ambient experiments to heavyweight club tracks and beyond. here, bear witness to the new sound of france (even though he lives in berlin!)

soulwax emerge with news of forthcoming musical endeavours, the soundtrack for belgica - a new film by oscar nominated director, felix van groeningen. the film sees soulwax’s influence throughout from composing, arranging and recording the original score to creating each and every one of the fictional musical artists featured. a diverse collection of songs, performed by a similarly varied set of artists has seen soulwax create what is a unique soundtrack that continues to see them evolve as one of music’s leading musical protagonists. all the music was recorded and mixed at soulwax’s new deewee studio hq in ghent, where every release is mixed and produced (and sometime written and recorded) by stephen and david dewaele.

we were very happy to be asked by connaisseur recordings if they could put out another album with our music! now it s all come together and they ve asked us to do our own press release for it and quite like the album, we want to do it in our own way, personal and from the heart. it s been a few years since our last connaisseur album, and a lot has happened since. we ve built a new studio, matured musically, acquired new gear, sold old gear, done a lot of gigs, lost faith in music and regained it again. the process of making the loneliest man in space (this album) was a genuinely pleasant experience, as we never really set out to make an album at all. we didn t conceptualize or have any grandiose plans, we simply enjoyed ourselves in the studio. inspiration was running high, so we focused on making a lot of music uninterrupted, rather than signing tracks, which left us with quite a bulk of unsigned material. the idea to release these tracks as an album came from our friend alex, at connaisseur. we instantly jumped on the idea, listened through the material, taking some tracks out and composing a few new ones, to make it sit more together as a whole. we tried to come up with a title that would ft the feeling of the sum of tracks and settled on the loneliest man in space. as the album, to our ears, sounds a little melancholic and a little spacey. we sincerely hope that you enjoy the album either as a listening experience, a dance experience or something in between!

it really feels like we (aka mad mats & tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with local talk, but it s really true what they say, time flies when you re having fun! from what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. we really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the local talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. from our very first release with bassfort s excellent moon shadow in the summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what local talk should represent...house music in any way, shape or form! over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, uk, berlin, new jersey, detroit and of course chicago inspired house music. if it made us bump...we put it out! this brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. we thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of blaze s classic album 25 years later popped up. besides the fact that it s an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. it s not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. this fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we ve tried to capture on our 5 1/2 years later compilation, split into two parts. on part 2 you ll find a high energy disco rub from parisian s3a, a truly deep and soulful vocal jam from boddhi satva & sly johnson, a deep uk garage production from smbd (aka simbad), a dark and electronic affair from toto chiavetta (yoruba) and finally a musical acid number with that magical bristol touch from newcomer marcel lune. all in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...local talk style

this amazing ep from dubsons has an amazing analog sound with a mixture of tracks. we have a bouncey groovey track, a driving housey track and an underground minimal dark room track. all these tracks have had amazing support from the likes of rhadoo, petre inspirescu, nu zau and lots more. this ep has been in the pipeline for some time and is still doing the rounds at various events and festivals with the big boys. burghez has an irie, creepy feel which would go down well at any after hours or main time set and is our personal favourite here at trapped ldn.

kraut house vs ethane house without touching any cliché is probably the tuffest job to do. keinemusik head honcho adam port flexes his muscles and shows his skills. superb new record, keinemusik keeps on going strong!

a bastion of magnetic style and mixing board finesse, honey dijon continues to exceed her bounds, pushing through from the underground of new york to become a cultural, global star. her classic follow-up to houze with seven david jnr, the provocative personal slave is unapologetic, hedonist and achingly cool. honey has teamed up with charles duff aka charles mccloud, who lends his seductively sulky tones for the vocal on the record. murky and mechanical, cowbell dinks and a percussive breakdown lift the mood, keeping the tracks feet firmly in the house bracket. consistently, honey’s productions piece together her familiar chicago jack with a contemporary new york edge. this track goes further in exploring that hybrid style, delivered with honeys signature lushness. a strong force in the us techno scene under his matrixxman moniker, charles duff appears again for remix duties on the dungeon dub, which as the name suggests is profoundly dark and moody, resonating highly with his regular slots at berghain. the drum machine mix hones in on the percussive work, playing with a visceral, hypnotic vibe that is so potent its almost dangerous. if this release is any indication of honeys intentions for this year, 2017 will see honey continue her ascension as a music icon.

the cold busted label unearths more funky nuggets from the fertile russian soil with this brilliant 7“ single from moscow’s anatoly ice. dj, producer, and host of the funk and beyond parties and radio show (running for nearly ten years), anatoly ice has been drawn to the swing of a phat beat for a long while. this single bursts with old school funk and new school attitude, beginning with ”something happened (2me)“. a vintage drum kit and melodic horns are joined by a big hip hop rhythm as the vocals and horn section are expertly cut up and rearranged. the song’s catchy hook – also the title – is left nearly intact and should playfully dance around any b-boy’s head as he does his thing. flip the record for ”light”, which exhibits a strutting breakbeat and some g-funk sauce in its prominent synth line. funky piano, guitar, and bass provide the backdrop, soundtracking a midnight cruise through the bad (as in good) part of town. hold tight … anatoly ice is at the wheel.
