underground trip vol. 1 is the first vinyl realease by artist carmine cioppa aka sleepover for klebmusic label. on side a it features two nice versions of beatz and pieces. the first one is a very clubby banger that contains classic house vocal samples on a great bassy modern beat. loud! a2 is a hypnotic drumbeat flavored with an old school punchy piano that finds its way into a drop, to chill for a second, and then make everybody jump up and scream when the drums build up to start booming again, for younger crowds. so far, real dancefloor, and we could think it is already enough for this 12inch to be bought right away. but its when we listen to the flip side that we find the real nice surprise: deep in the underground is a wondefully laid track that really reminds us of the 90s club sound of epic labels like bassline and big big trax. on this beautiful classy tune, organ, background samples, bass and rhythm section melt into a very special old fashioned atmosphere that takes us back in time, and the piano solo by sep sarno gives it a great passionate touch. jazzy, groovy, sturdy classic deep house with a very modern finish that will always be a gem. timeless.

marvin jupiter is an 18 year old artist who mainly makes hip-hop music, using bass lines as rhythms more associated with funk. he uses and creates the sound of the modern day interpretation of trap adding his own personal twist. reach is a rendition of the typical house genre including rhythms sampled from south american cultures, using current sounds from the trap genre even having a small section of a trap/hip-hop beat towards the end of the song. on the b-side you can hear the boogie & funk through a dego & lord remix
support for my life at 45 part 1 came from huey morgan and craig charles on bbc 6music the second instalment of dr rubbefunk s my life at 45 series. canvas cathedral on the a-side is a jazzy all-instrumental affair that will have you head-nodding like nobody s business. over uptempo hip-hop flavoured beats reminiscent of early 90s golden era hip hop, chopped and looped riffs from sax man ben castle give way to rolling melodies and rapid fire solos. on the flip, unstoppable gospel powerhouse izo fitzroy is here, flexing her soulful tones over one of the most elastic basslines ever pressed on wax. underpinned by signature laidback drums that groove like a classic rhythm section of yesteryear, tasteful guitars and chiming electric piano weave their way between izo s lyrics and, bingo! that s a little blahzay right there! always keen to give the djs a bonus, the good doctor even squeezes some canvas beats onto the 7- for good measure.
free soul 1969 the groove is heavy too ñ and a popular hip hop sample ñ but really itís all about klemmerís blisteringly intense, stream of consciousness freak-out. been sampled over 16x from ini to ed o g & da bulldogs to kurious, akinyele, dred scott to name a few. klemmer just wyles out on the sax keep that psychedelic funk moving!! side b. up above the rock edit 1968 you wonít find too many jazz songs that start with a drum break, but then this is probably one of the better jazz/soul hybrids iíve heard in some time. produced by richard evans this song is a perfect display of acoustic jazz funk with ron carter & grady tate filling out the rhythm section. dance floor classic!
the tel-aviv based label parallax brings yogg and pharaoh together for their 8th vinyl release. it starts off with the epic title track, a laid-back bassy groove surrounded by crispy hits and shifted electrical noises, building up to a climatic second part which fuses a lot of the producers unique soundscapes, all on a hypnotic pounding rhythm section. this is followed by a quirky broken electronica short, -ompti-, chopped-up modular sweeps and lush melodic hints create this uniquely structured a2 track. the b-side starts of with -maurice-, a more direct and intensive techno cut, which also breaks into an energetic – wobbly 2nd section which also features many of their unique sound explorations in a dramatic final section. b2, -abadei- has a deeper buildup approach for most of it, starting from a pure yet uneven rhythm section, and growing into a mass of counterparts and layers of noise and crackle. the ep ends with an unlisted locked-groove, an intense and dirty industrial-techno groove.
people plus are cz wang and joli b., signaling from a studio and or hut in some remote location. their debut ep consists of three trips into time in just as many styles. side a belongs to olympus mons, a song as big as the mountain its named from. snake charmer synth lines and vocal roars backed by the baddest rhythm section in a while wait for the solo! the b side holds work it out, with broken 4-off-the-floor drumz and revving echo effects. taking the coveted b1 spot is the always dancefloor smashing second cycle - a verified banger that opens up with ground shaking acidish filter bubbles, and closes somewhere way up above the clouds.
super deep african / new age / minimalistic / ambient crossover from cabo verde - not the typical record, a beautiful listening experience check! originally conceived as a book of 6 poems that developed into a record released independently in 1986, universo da ilha sits at the cross-section of many different genres. connecting contemporary new age and ambient minimalist movements with traditional west african and cape verdean elements from the past (griot voices, djembe rhythms, melancholic morna), vasco constructed his own universe where, in spite of the isolation of the island at the time, he transcended barriers and created a global record that was ahead of its time vasco used his own synths and drum machines, and with the help of a small group of friends (tey gonçalves on percussion, neney’s amazing griot voice, luis morais on sax and flute), he recorded this not-balearic-but-atlantic ambient odyssey on a 16-channel peavey mixer directly to an akai tape recorder without overdubs.
for our second release of 2018 ears have eyes are back with the third instalment of our throng of orbs compilation series. this time around we welcome back old friends, and bring in some new names to the ehe fold, with a collection of tracks spanning deep emotive house music, broken beats and acid dancefloor pressure. first up we have contours, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with an excellent release on the mighty rhythm section, and has put out a slew of great records since then. dither takes time to unfold, but when the fluid acid line emerges from the heady percussion he really sets up the track for dancefloor perfection. for the a2 we welcome back chocky to the label, and he serves up a slice of weighty house music that drips quality and emotion. pickle dat kicks off with an absolute beauty of a groove, understated but weighty, and from there chocky goes on to sprinkle just the right amount of seasoning, with soulful rhodes licks and a wonderful bass line. off the back of their excellent 12- on love on the rocks, elles x violet kick off the b side with yrnyb, a tried and tested dancefloor destroyer. when we heard elles playing this in a dark basement in peckham, we just had to sign it. sometimes a kick drum, an acid line and a half heard vocal is all you need. finishing off the release we have dublin artist replete serving up a lovely slice of hazy, percussive house music that slowly builds to a crescendo. an acidic bassline sits nicely over congas and a warm, rounded kick drum.
with its lush live string and horn section, can’t stop loving you when originally released in 1990 was an immediate favorite in the uk, and represented famed house producer marshall jefferson’s movement toward utilizing live instrumentation in his productions. the track was released right around the time the kiss fm london launched as a legal radio station, and richard was support talent at the radio station launch party in hyde park london that was headlined by fellow chicagoans ten city.
the track also represented one of the last releases on the relaunched sam records imprint, before michael weiss ceased releasing new titles on sam and started nervous records.

the belfast based dj & producer, garry mccartney, otherwise known as ejeca, has been steadily and consistently building his sound and profile over time, through a series of impressive releases for aus music, unknown to the unknown, w&o street tracks, bpitch control and last night on earth, amongst others.
ejeca carves out an energetic slab of audacious party house on ‘unloving’, resplendent with rolling beats and stabby chords, and topped off with dramatic strings and vocal chops. elsewhere on the ep, ejeca unleashes some 303 bassline action and dark vocals on ‘standard acid house track’, which thankfully rises well above anything standard! and on ‘crystal maze’, ejeca harks back to the darker dance energies that were a staple of the late 1980s uk acid house boom. wrapping up the ep, ‘iswhatis’ gets ever so slightly twisted with an orbiting synth hook and weighty stabs over a spirited rhythm section.
skinny pelembe corrals together a cast of talented friends for his new ep. it’s his most ambitious release to date, boasting a different group or artist featuring on each of its tracks, each of them an act he’s met through music or through linking with brownswood’s celebrated talent development programme future bubblers two years ago. across its four entries, he bridges hip-hop, psych-rock and jazz-influenced tangents, cutting out a diverse cross-section of the city’s music scene. it’s a document of the connections he’s made as an artist, and is the most collaborative project he’s worked on so far. the title of the ep comes from some advice which skinny noted to himself on an old notebook. each of its songs started as a rough idea which was then fleshed out and re-imagined with his collaborators.
with the disco revival firmly set at full steam quantize recordings felt it was the right time to dig in & rework what is widely regarded as one of the biggest anthems from the disco era - loleatta holloway’s “love sensation”. often imitated, & much sampled they had to be firmly on their game with this and boy did they hit it hard now blessed with the talent of susu bobien on lead vocals (and the equally talented tasha larae on bvs!) alongside a full horn section, “love sensation” is back once more and ready to do damage to a whole new generation of dance floors! the much sought after accapella is also included on this release, the only format you’ll ever be able to get this on!

for the 5th in the ele records catalogue esteemed producer cottam brings two killer edits to the table. the a side sees a joyous disco rework, extending and expanding elements to really hone in on that exuberant bassline and string section. flip it over and jigsaw delivers a dusty mixture of afro rhythms and stirring spoken words to entrance any audience it s set before.
