makeness, the brainchild of kyle molleson, returns with his white label . off the back of a minor science remix being played out by the likes of jamie xx, ben ufo, avalon emerson and more last summer, the ep marks the producer’s most dance oriented ep yet. the roots of temple works date back to the producer’s time in leeds, which played an important part in both this release and his wider love for dance music. while there, molleson recorded a friend s percussion project, g-bop orchestra, at an old textile mill in holbeck, known as temple works. the vast openness of the space made for the best natural reverb and is weaved throughout the title track. it was also in leeds where the producer discovered cosmic slop, an all welcoming party with a sound system built by founder and resident dj, tom smith, with donations going towards raising money for local charity map (music and arts production). slop’s intimate and flawless sounding room played a huge part in cementing makeness’ love for club spaces.

following the first chapter of andy mac sdiving birdseries, idle hands welcomes italian producer piezo into the fold with an ep that harks back to the smoky, dubwise ambience of some of the label s earliest releases. luca mucci was a bristol resident for a few years before returning to his native milan, carving out an identity for his piezo alias with a slew of dubstep-focused eps on labels such as artikal music and subaltern. while on an idle hands skirmish stateside and playing on ny radio, one of the kelly twins dropped lume and remarked on how idle it sounded, sparking the process that led to this record. you can sense a link the early kowton records on ep opener opeq, all monochromatic textures and taut, slow-stalking rhythms, but here those facets are interspersed with a unique melodic elegance that offsets the moody immersion of the track, eventually blooming out into an effervescent slice of slow-motion house music. novemiluano meanwhile displays muccis capabilities in handling broken beats, exercising a devastating restraint without compromising on presence or energy in crafting a stunning piece of meditative soundsystem music. pushing that foundational dub principle of space and minimalism even further, lume closes the record out in stunning style with an intimate, glacial stepper that champions minute detail as much as looming gaps in the sound. with a peppering of micro sampling atop a deathly bassweight march, its a finely pointed arrow aimed right at the heart of idle hands, and we couldn t be happier to be releasing it.

reissue of this very rare gospel/disco masterpiece, originally released at only 1000 private-press copies, and surprisingly unknown and underrated until today. calvin bernard rhone, a native of los angeles, has been ministering in word and song for more than 40 years throughout the us and abroad. he acknowledges that he is passionate about music, yet purposed for ministry. beginning his professional singing career at age eight, he has shared the stage with possibly every major gospel artist from the 60’s to present. in 1983, he released the album intimate friends on his own label, c.b.r. records. recently discovered by dj and collector charles maurice, the lp has never received the attention and fame it deserves. it was anyway obvious for the dj and favorite recordings, that some of the tracks it includes would for sure become real classics for all disco and funk music lovers and deejays. officially licensed to calvin b. rhone himself, its today reissued for the first time, as a 3 tracks vinyl single.

in today’s increasingly barren rock and roll landscape, ulan bator stand as beacons of explorative songwriting. formed in paris in 1993 by amaury cambuzat (vocals, guitar and keyboards) and olivier manchion (bass), the band’s atmospheric approach to composition has consistently yielded guitar-driven avant-rock at once hypnotic and untamed. and while their sound has developed in a variety of directions – often in relationship to changing line-ups and various collaborations, including with krautrock legends faust and swans michael gira – ulan bator’s resist simple categorization: kraut-y repetition, post-rock guitar flourishes, kosmische synth work, intimate whispering and pounding drums have all taken an audible lead throughout their now twenty-year career.

aus music ready a double vinyl remix package from cassys debut album, donna which came out in june 2016. with donna we hear a more personal side of cassy. co-produced by her soul brother king britt, cassy reconnects with her vocal talentwriting lyrics and singing on all tracks but one, making the album an intimate journey from the soul. cassy has en-listed some of her most respected peers, all of whom have put their own stamp on the original tracks. this makes the remix package the perfect contrast to the album, and also proves that cassys original music has the seal of approval from some of the finest house and techno heavyweights on the circuit today. marcel dettmann adds an endearing edge to move move, whilst ron bacardi picks up an undeniable pace on all i do. feel is taken on a cosmic journey with onsulade’s yoruba, and radio slave gives keep trying the remix treatment twice. finally keep trying is reworked on by friend & collaborator, djulz, julz takes takes things down a subtle, dubbier route with his edit, keeping cassys vocals a staple throughout.

testarossa is third studio album by brinstaar. he says that this album is dedicated to redheaded blue-skinned goddess. this work is reflecting brinstaar’s deep and emotional chase for the elusive moment of infinite bliss that keeps him alive and conscious.
while using mainly processed guitars for infotswetock and synths for mielisss, brinstaar uses a lot of acoustic instruments and field recorded sounds in testarossa now, thus creates much more intimate compositions. of course, his specialty mesmerizing synth parts and precisely constructed guitar timbres are still here too.

the aim of „métamorphose“ is to offer a voyage to the listener. the pieces really often start quite dark and then the mood turns into something intimate to catch the audience from the deeper spheres. sometimes it goes the other way as well: the track starts in a happy way and turns into a deeper vibe. by doing so the listener should notice his own feelings and try to completely let himself go. further he should be aware of his emotions: on the one hand the happy and melancholic and on the other hand the dark and rather monotonous side. in addition to the musical part to each track there is a specific artwork which was made while listening to the tracks and is based on the emotional expressions which were triggered by the sounds.

strength lies in calmness – and vice versa. marcel fengler returns on imf and offers three new inspirited musical pieces that protrude from the club context just as well as cater for your home stereo, picking up on the diverse musical moods defined by his debut album fokus (ostgut ton, 2013) while concentrating on intertwining sound aesthetics. with “kyu” laid out on the a-side, this new 12- starts off with a delicate yet muscular floor-pleaser – its subtle 4/4 rhythm is counteracted by lush claps on 2/4, but the true finesse comes in form of its varying rhythmic details, crisp hi-hats and underlying, subtle melodies, most notably the twirling organ trills, sustained synth pads and alienated shout outs. “shitau” on b1 picks up on these introverted and adoring musical moods with more organic bell percussion and swelling synth layers adding a more cinematic touch to the complex rhythm patterns—then pausing for a short dreamy break, gaining speed again before culminating in a grand finale. “zen” follows up with intimate string arrangements until fengler varies the tone and tempo with tribalist percussion and a lush kick drum. this ep is an ideal companion, whether you re pruning your bonsai or branching out a club set.

terrific record! eight charged, intimate meditations by julie normal and olivier demeaux, playing a rickety ondes martenot and an old church harmonium. gripping, detailed, stately improvisation — a bit like the ùrlars in classical bagpipe music — which nervily mixes the sternly doom-laden with precarious, other-worldly wonderment. modern love very rarely reaches out to artists outside of its immediate surroundings, it’s happened just a couple of times in the last 14 years. but there’s something about philippe hallais that compelled the label to ask him if he wanted to do something together. philippe has released music on a bunch of cool labels (l.i.e.s., the trilogy tapes, delsin, in paradisum), but hearing the first tracks recorded for lighthouse stories, it was obvious philippe was hitting on something new: a kinda weird slow/fast dance music that sounded like a footwork variant sewn up with an exotic production style that was impossible to pin down. these tracks eventually splintered off into different directions, held together by a strong sense of narrative and motion harking back to a teenage obsession with turntablism, detroit electro and ghetto house, and eventually juke and grime. although he’s spent the last few years focusing on more industrial dancefloor variants, for lighthouse stories philippe turned to these foundational influences, as well as his love of mixtapes and sound collages full of unfinished ideas, skits and experiments, all things that inform the flow of this new album. lighthouse stories captures a sense of nostalgia well, but is also a futuristic vision full of that exploratory, vibrant spirit that’s so hard to find in electronic music these days. frames of reference are hard, but in places it reminds us of the dusted swagger of anthony shake shakir, the acquatic drexciyan movements of ultradyne, a loose-limbed take on shangaan, and of actress at his most submerged. but ultimately, it’s an album made by a producer looking to his personal history while forging new ground, pushing ahead with little regard to convention and ultimately ending up with something completely unique: a kind of intimate journal rendered in bright colours and odd shapes.

as half of teengirl fantasy, logan takahashi is best known for making glassy, expansive tracks. on his debut solo album nogeo, however, he creates an intimate world of fertile, furtive rhythms. throughout the album, techno-tinged patterns unfurl with zeal and digital melodies slowly rise and fall. if the music of teengirl evokes widescreen, technicolor club scenes, nogeo is a zoomed-in study of timbre, rhythm, and melody.
