edwards graceful take on modern house and techno is a perfect fit for trelik, and the german producer sounds comfortable as he unfurls swooning threads of otherworldly music for the tripped out dancefloor. the ogermania mx of mikko is a hazy, string soaked affair pitched somewhere warm and dreamlike, but there s plenty of energy churning away in the lower register. lottery is a more twitchy affair for darker times, all moody bass bounce and looming drones around a shuffling set of percussion. groaning ghosts is the techiest of the bunch, and theres a whole lot of freaked out sound design swirling around in the mix as well. this is simply stunning, highly advanced dance music from a modern day maestro.

arkansas native, lee moore moved to memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in new york, l.a and everywhere in between. as a singer and songwriter lee moore spent the 1980s collaborating in memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like volt and stax records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. lee moore unfortunately never got close to reach his goals of fame and fortune. for the first time, past due records is reissuing lees incredible free & easy lp which was only released as a handful of test pressings in 1981 because lee thought the record was too good to release on his score records label. it is a pure memphis modern soul / boogie funk masterpiece that features countless artists from the stax crew, al greens vocalists and even herbie hancocks keyboard player. the 1981 test pressing has commanded huge sums of money on the used vinyl market and is one for the real soul connoisseur

marionette is very proud and happy to announce kilchhofer s debut album the book room. benjamin kilchhofer is not new to the world of recorded music, yet he doesn’t seem to fit into a particular scene or group. as an outsider he is, however, fully immersed and melded into his own universe. he mentally escapes to a parallel world and weaves an alternate reality which would otherwise not exist in his daily life. kilchhofer avoids the spotlight and therefore isn’t really visible in today’s culture of ever changing content and social media. this is where marionette steps in to attempt to shed as much light as possible on this unique and incredibly talented artist. the book room is kilchhofer s musical diary, it s his library of emotions. it s a fairytale, an imaginary place shaped by exotic cultures, an escape from modern society, a collage of real and imagined experiences. you can hear influences abstracted from a wide number of musical approaches: the story-telling nature of folklore music, naive and conflicting rhythms of tribal drums, melodies and pads reminiscent of classical minimalism and microtonal experimental music, the freeform approach of early electronic music and krautrock, and buried deep within the tracks some hints of hedonistic dance and club music.

dionne warwick is one of the most classic and iconic soul singers of all time. over her career she has recorded a string of hits and a legacy of music of outstanding quality. “move me no moiuntain” was first released in 1975 on warner brothers and has since become her most played song on the ‘modern soul’ scene. “(i’m) just being myself” comes from an earlier album (1973) produced by holland-dozier-holland’, a connoisseur soul track gaining support in recent years.

louisiana soul singer bobby king first recorded as a solo artist in 1973 for the reprise label where he also sang for ry cooder. in 1981 he switched to the main warner brorthers imprint and recorded what has become for soul fans a most highly regarded self-titled album. “if you don’t want my love” became a single, an original pressing for this ‘modern’ dancefloor record recently onsale for £300. it is coupled with an exceptuional track from the album “lovers by night” not previously available on 7” vinyl.

bordello a parigi is on the hunt once again, this time journeying to southern france to unearth an up and coming sect of synthesizer sorcerers: blind delon. hailing from toulouse, the triumvirate of mathis kolkoz, théo fantuz and coco thiburs offer a sound that combines indie and wave with seemingly effortless execution. the soft interlude of -sometimes- introduces assassin. a groove grips pulsing rhythms, subtle strings and throaty vocals in the captivating -sombre soleil-. those vocals become even deeper in the dreamy -j ai honte-. smoke spirals around keys in this brooding work of guitars rifts and bruised egos. the title piece perfectly melds warm strings with cold synthlines for a superb climax to an ep that exudes modern synth-wave chic.

lillygood party! is a label focused on licencing tracks that alex and stephane play for years at their parties. the aim is to re-edit and revisit those jams from soul to house , jazz to afro, boogie to techno and make us and people enjoy and smile on the dancefloor because those tunes are really really good both tracks here are classics dancefloors tunes, nothing rare, just favourite tunes that alex and stéphane play in their sets. on the a side the onwards international version is longer than the original and the arrangement quiet different for more intense dancefloor action. here they both worked on the edit to find the right balance and the right sound in order to revisit the uk classic jazz funk number, a firm favourite here lillygood! the b side is an amazing disco modern soul gospel track from elbernita twinkie clark already reissued some time ago but the cherry on the cake is that you have here a 12inch version extended and a new mastering for extra loud play this version is slightly different than the original, alex extended parts: the beginning with drum intro looped for mixing and changed the end to make it longer keeping the original flavour. please enjoy as much as we do because we love those edits, we love those tunes, we love music we are very happy to share with you these limited vinyls releases

2013 marks marcos valle s 70th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the brazilian native s debut long player. for the past few years, light in the attic s been obsessed with valle s early 70s work, originally recorded for the odeon label. it s where a new modern brazilian pop sound effortlessly mixed bossa nova, baio and samba with foreign influences like jazz, rock, pop, soul and funk, bringing to mind the sounds of jean claude vannier and david axelrod. tip!!

this is a great sophomore effort by this scottish outfit. the singer has a unique semi-quavering voice with a melodramatic quality that suits the music and would equally suit him on stage in a musical. some songs are aggressive but with a dark hue. opening cut -a leaving song- finds sutherland carving his way through jangly and buzzing guitars set to a skittery beat with a touch of the theatrical. closing is -home-, a forlorn ballad with sutherland delicately pleading -please let me come home-, elegiac and sweet.

eric estornels lone romantic releases -anomaly-, the new ep of the veteran english-born, france-based producer carl finlow. -anomaly- is the 3rd instalment, following estornel’s maceo plex album -solar- and the return of his mariel ito alias with the -2e komst- ep, remarking the distinct sound of the label once again, while pushing a step forward at the same time. with the relaunch of mariel ito, the electro and idm alias of estornel, that was active in the early 2000s with releases on modern love or scsi-av and that will see a retrospective album from that time on r&s records, lone romantic is a new suitable platform for carl’s music. however, from the 90s until today, his vast catalog traverses through the most relevant labels out there such as warp, soma, klang, scsi-av, novamute, satamile, electrix and his own 2020 vision. -anomaly- is a four-tracker showcasing classic electro schemes with ease. a frenetic mysticism and a meditative melancholy stand behind the most innovative trajectories of funk, within a mood much divergent than the usual conservative reverence towards the genre.

the first full artist ep of 2018 is one by a new artist for heist, but a familiar name for any modern day house aficionado: adryiano. after taking 2016 off, he came back guns blazing in 2017, releasing 5 solo eps in 1 year on labels like shall not fade and baka gaijin. his me and you and her ep for heist showcases his contemporary view on classic house and acid, and is an experiment into how much distortion a track can actually handle when youve got a killer sample hook. me and you and her is about as classic as a house track can be and moves in similar fashion as his post-2013 hit ‘on my side. its got a sweet and repetitive vocal loop, some semi-grainy but definitely groovy percussion and a deceptively simple piano hook. add some filtering and youve got a lovely warm house song that can go on forever. the a2 move it, move it moves straight into old-school chicago territory, with a raw af acid bassline. chicago bred jamie 3:26, now residing in its dutch counterpart rotterdam, gives the track a nice old school twist. hes going full 707 on the percussion and has casually added an amazing synth hook to give the remix a true vibe of its own. the ep closes off with fashion country girl: adryianos dystopian view of a world where dolly parton gets mangled through an overdrive, then gets distorted, crushed, mangled, deleted, re-added in 8 bit and then crushed some more. the result is an uptempo roller with more than enough grit, and just enough tongue-in-cheek to make everyone smile a little bit more. yours sincerely, maarten & lars.

following the success in 2017 of the koharu kisaragi/ryuichi sakamoto collaboration neo-plant, uk label lag records continues its revival of vintage electronic esoterica with kissh&#333,, tennyo, the 1984 lp by joe hisaishi, premier film composer of japan. whilst known worldwide for his elegiac scores to studio ghibli classics like princess mononoke and spirited away, it s a different kind of soundtrack behind kissh&#333,, tennyo, intended as it was to be a musical accompaniment to an 80s manga of the same name. it s also a showcase of hisaishi s lesser known talents as an electronic musician, shortly before he became composer of choice for world-renowned directors such as hayao miyazaki and takeshi kitano. on kissh&#333,, tennyo we hear hisaishi unleash synth arpeggios with all the suspense of a giallo horror. his cold minimalist ambience evokes the likes of terry riley. tracks like &#34880,,,,,,,,,&#12398,,,,,,,,,&#25239,,,,,,,,,&#20105,,,,,,,,, ( blood feud ) meanwhile lighten the mood, running at car chase speed with the bounce of early ymo. all in all, befittingly beguiling music for the cartoon tale of a modern femme fatale who has the powers of an ancient deity (the eponymous kissh&#333,,,,,,,,, tennyo or &#21513,,,,,,,,,&#31077,,,,,,,,,&#22825,,,,,,,,,&#22899,,,,,,,,, , to use the album s japanese title). in the same spirit of the manga, lag records have combined the old with the new on kissh&#333,,,,,,,,, tennyo. licensed by tokuma japan communications, the original release from classic anime label animage comes with new artwork by luna monogatari, and a remastering courtesy of jerome schmitt at the airlab. a download card and poster will be included with the gatefold. lp which comes on standard black vinyl.
