0am001 is the first in a series of various artists 12-s in which we ll aim to capture the spirit of the 00:am dance floor with music we ve received and road tested across our beloved city s bars, clubs, & half cocked after parties. the first release brings together local neighbourhood staples / roommates priori and adam feingold alongside our good australian pal mike midnight and la s very own ashtrejinkins. expect house from the melancholy to the roughed up, live drums & breaks, and beautiful dubby atmospherics. all this to say, there s no set rules here, just good music from good friends, and hopefully a little something for everyone inside.

all pieces are conceived and recorded between the end of 2015 and 2016 between amsterdam and tuscany. the path starts with cristallo di bismuto which is a low-tempo jam marked by dusty 80s drums and deep pads that transport you straight away in an underground nocturnal urban sci-fi scenario. i wish you could shelter me has within a powerful rolling bass part and a solid drum-machine pattern, dx7 s style keys with some romantic melancholic colors. oosterpark laguna is an exotic house groove with a lush pad and a sweet saxophone solo perfect for a sunny warm day. mare aperto is a nostalgic house tune inspired by the early chicago s piano house and the italian golden era of clubbing of the end of 80s early 90s. the release includes a label s sticker inside and a stamp on the inner sleeve.

things gettin’ faster and more toolish on the second osmund audio release. alexander brandl’s second ep is made for the dancefloor. his drawing board is the modular synth, that spat out three massive groovers with chords from outer space, super thick bass lines and a raw and reduced sound design with roughly edited drums.

sven weisemann is set to release his ‘bilateral relations’ ep via copenhagen’s echocord this september, comprising four originals from the german producer. sven weisemann has been immersed in the underground house and techno scene for quite some time now having started djing in 1997 during the rise of the scene on his home turf of berlin and going on to release material via the likes of amsterdam’s delsin, mojuba, telrae and liebe.detail amongst many more. here though we see sven joining the roster of echocord, a perfect fit for his more dubbed out compositions with artists like fluxion, rod modell and stl on the roster. ‘lunation’ opens the release and sees weisemann fuse emotive string melodies and cavernous vocal echoes with off- kilter rhythms and rounded sub hits before title-track ‘bilateral relations’ embraces a more direct four-four approach via sparse percussion and tumbling toms alongside choppy bass stabs and ever-unfolding, echoing dub chords. opening the flip is ‘monistic’, an airy ethereal number employing billowing pads, bright synth chimes and a dropped tempo dubbed out feel to create something truly stunning and thought provoking before the ‘decimation (valvle tr9 mix) closes things on a darker tip with looming stab swells, heavily swung drums and sporadic growling bass drones.

flesh world is a dream punk group formed in the summer of 2012 in san francisco. the quartet includes scott moore (guitar, synths) jess scott (vocals, guitar) andrew luttrell (bass, backing vocals) sam lefebvre (drums). jess and scott met while loitering around the panhandle district, listening to records, gossiping, and playing live shows around town with their bands (scott plays in hardcore group limp wrist and jess played in the indie pop band brilliant colors).

dj harrison is richmond va-based producer and multi-instrumentalist devonne harris. the son of a radio dj who introduced him to the world of record collecting, harris grew up with music, progressing from violin, to high school drum-line, to the jazz studies program at virginia commonwealth university. he also continued working with other instruments and developed an interest in sampling. his development as a producer at first, without a computer or sampler came first learning to replay samples on the drums, piano, bass or guitar. dj harrison finds himself inspired by local musicians in the richmond scene thats as diverse and nonexclusive as they come. among rappers, producers, punks and bluegrass bands, he falls within reach of an expansive pool of musicians to collaborate with. he lives and works in jellowstone, a house turned recording compound occupied by his band mates in butcher brown, a garage punk jazz funk group. hazymoods, dj harrison’s stones throw debut, was recorded there completely on tape, where the living room functions as a communal recording studio

los angeles based natan h and malta based artist owen jay return as gauss with their first ep of 2017. entitled resonator it offers more deep music with an electronic soul and is their fifth ep for their cultured label gauss ltd. the title track opens things up with a crunchy and impactful mix of weighty dub drums and spangled techno chords. it s a heavy track that builds in momentum and is sure to mangle minds with its skewed stabs and wiry electronics. shifted is a more fierce techno track with urgency in the kicks and a sense of anger in the coarse little snare explosions. more gurgling synths add weight and this one is a real stomper as a result. cutting ever more loose, odyssey is a mix of idm sound design, soulful synth smears and percolating electro tinged drums that are slick and futuristic. least squares completes this techno picture with spitting hits and claps, underwater chords and acidic sonar pulses that soothe the mind. this is an expansive ep that marks an exciting evolution in gauss s sound.

lucretio s first solo release on memento, the -system pressure e.p.- is a piece of carefully handcrafted nightclub music. the late-hours anthem -addict to the dancefloor- combines the early 90s heart-felt grooves with the state of the art of contemporary electronic production. -2bpad1- is a relentless ride of voltage controlled oscillators and hexadecimal quirks over hefty bare drums processed with a juicy analogue filter. finally -love wont leave- bring back together house and techno, melting their rhythm and blues essence into an absolute peak-time conjunction.

‘fallen down is the second ep from tee mango and will sauls primitive trust project, featuring a remix by shanti celeste. the title track weaves percussive shuffles and vocal refrains with glowing synths, whilst colourful melodic layers and resonating vocal stabs armour the choppy live drums of ‘day one. dekmantel regular shanti celeste does what she does best with her remix of fallen down in building a rich, hypnotic groove that steadily develops with intricacy and depth, whilst ‘big tracky disco tool is exactly that.

nyc stalwart and international superstar jacques renault joins brooklyn cohorts for a 4 track ep of superior edit stylings! on the a side cold blooded sources a classic, focusing on a hypnotic and rhythmic pattern for a solid 6 minutes before exploding into exuberant soul, while get down is a loose and greasy funk stomper. on the flip, dream machine is disco sampled perfection, chopped and sliced with evident love. finally, that sound takes us home with its thunderous drums, slap bass, and a tasteful peppering of soulful vocals.

first ep of the label lowlife cartel. dissociative tones, texture of the sound and atmosphere sought here, more than melody. no boundary in genre but same sonic ethos. the two sides of the ep includes two tracks ambient/downtempo fitting with patient listening. three other, lofi tracks, and more efficient to play into clubs. face a starts with -nerve splicing- by telekommunist, also known as wpx7, face covered and steps muffled through a deadening blizzard of tape saturation and white noisey envelops that find a balance between deepening the sense of immersion and a retained groove. -kairu- by a. latif, affiliated to the experimental and elusive russian label john s kingdom. an arsenal of textures are employed, surrounded all the time by different kind of breeths carving out a growingly satisfying contrast between the shivery charm of its melodic line and the roughness of its elements. a rough diamond. face b, -kfs-, by vslds (present on the next cousin carl release, after kinway and voyd) is a delusional and abstract piece of lofi hip hop. setting skittish drums and heavily altered rapper vox sample, smothered against a grey-ish canvas of blurry, washed-out pads. this feels both playful and unhealthy. -gotta go fast-, by paul santangelo (venetian causeway), is marked with the very personal style of this artist who does his way across the ever effervescent lofi techno scene. the round, drag-shed bass, fits with an introspective melody and atmosphere. -every man has a woman who loves him-, by loophie (raw russians), surprises the listener at the end of the disc with a lofi house track sampled from john lennon, very effective in club. the czech lofi house videomaker moskalus edited a video of it on his youtube channel. 5 artists to follow.

drummer and music producer desmond mahoney is another of the unsung heroes of british reggae. born in jamaica, he moved to the uk in 1967 and began his professional career playing drums in a band called young ones from zion. he was a founding member of black slate when the group formed in 1974, played with them through their glory years and after running a sound system in north london for many years, returned to the fold when the group reformed a few years ago. his first foray in music production probably came during a brief period in toronto in 1978, working with a band called the ishan lions, but he was back in the uk in time for black slate’s breakthrough material, which brought them onto ensign in the uk, barclay in france and alligator in the usa. at the same time, he continued to arrange and produce for a number of british reggae artists operating in both the roots and lover’s rock modes, female duo nya & natty’s ‘one love stylee’ seemed to bridge the two styles quite successfully on this greatly sought-after 12-inch, first issued in 1981 on the s&g label, then based at a record shop in bow.

respected parisian producer dj deep debuts on kerri chandler s kaoz theory with four rhythmic house tracks. one of the most important protagonists to emerge from the french house and techno scene, dj deep s status is unquestionable. at the helm of deeply rooted, the reputable label owner has signed and released numerous timeless cuts from the likes of ben klock, francois x, roman poncet, kerri chandler, and many more. meanwhile, his return to production in recent years has seen him appear on a variety of credible labels, such as rekids,tresor and l.i.e.s. inaugurating the release,thai fades in gently using subtle field recordings and organic drums before introducing piercing stabs and serene pads, making way for the firm kicks and open hats of tuesday record shopping in paris as soaring atmospherics and various intricate elements come into effect. the mesmerizing guardian is next, with its low-slung groove and compelling rhythm, until cavalier drums concludes the release by rolling out complex percussion from start to finish.

london s sugarhouse crew have already made some waves with their first two releases, and now the gang are back with round three of their soul-drenched deep house adventures. this time it s maurice jnr and seb miguel teaming up for three crucial jams, each with something different to say. -deebo s quest- is rich with aqueous pad tones and a slick set of drums that shuffle just the way you want it, while -science of life- takes a distinctly detroit-influenced approach that wouldn t sound out of place on mahogani music. that leaves it to -lovin u- to round the ep out with a warm, upbeat roller for those who like their house loaded with passion.

new york s p. leone is back with the second release on his newly launched e-missions imprint featuring work them records founder spencer parker on remix duties. born and raised in brooklyn, where he discovered the legendary storm rave parties run by frankie bones and adam x, p. leone cut his teeth djing in the lower east side of manhattan before making techno himself. before long the producer dropped his first two releases on work them records, joining a roster spanning radio slave, spencer parker, young male, anetha and physical therapy. e-missions was then launched in early 2017, acting as a platform for co-founders p. leone and caiazzo with more exciting artists soon to be announced. discipline signals is dark and robust from start to finish, with functions of discipline 1 inaugurating the package with resonating kicks, trippy elements and industrial synths. functions of discipline 2 follows a similar aesthetic but heads into a deeper direction with its cavernous atmospherics and glitch inspired effects, making way for laced with its sinister drones and tantalising melodies. spencer parker then remixes laced , concluding matters with rugged drums, energetic hi-hats and a rumbling low-end.

after his banging ep 1 on aus, tee mangos back for the 5th installment in his tribute project, inspired by the much referenced theo parrish quote: love of the music should be the driving force of any producer, performer or dj. everything else stems from that core, that love. with that love, sampling can become a tribute, an expansion on ideas long forgotten, reconstruction, collage. time is now time is now comes off like adamski era seal rerub for the small hours. replete with hypnotic looped piano and drums sounding like they were lifted from vaughan mason s raze house archive. simply sweet sweet electronic music. make it last forever the b side is tee mango on home turf, with a selection of choice samples under his cap (from a record you might recognise), some simple loose sampled drums and a smattering of dub delay. love for this series coming from: axel boman, benji b, artwork, fred p, and a heap of others. these tribute releases sell out pretty quick, my hunch is that these will not hang about.

raphael ray munnings is famously known as the band leader and singer of the mighty bahamian funk legends the beginning of the end, he is also a formidable solo artist in his own right with a clutch of sought after, rare 7- singles throughout the early to late 70 s as well as numerous appearances with his band. opportunity knockin from 1972 is an early one from ray, released on tk disco s alston imprint, it s often been a rare 45 and doesn t show up very often. opportunity knockin is channelling the usual sun-soaked vibes of his later material this single is a sweet one for summertime, breezy horn infused funk with tough drums and that caribbean vibe. the b-side is also a winner, sleep on, dream on is an uptempo slice of wah wah driven soul with a serious groove and a peace-loving, ecologist theme running through ray s vocals. sublime stuff, for real fans of funk and soul rarities! nab this rare 45 of caribbean soul, re-issued here in it s original 45 rpm format with the original alston label artwork. it s been re-mastered, re-pressed and made available again with the permission of tk disco / alston records, miami florida, usa.

sydney’s post pluto are back with the debut no doors ep from riggles, a four track blend of crunchy beats and dusty house grooves. doomsday takes us back to 99 with a sun drenched edit of the classic mf doom beat. shine follows with a bass heavy groove and stretched out vocals. on the flip, perfect day gets moody with textured drums and back alley sax solos. sydney duo, sonderr, are on remix duties with a melancholic approach to shine, bringing it to a darker club atmosphere.

the title track, “blackbird”, has received support from ltj bukem and many other top deejays around the world. the song starts off with a heavy amen break and light background atmospherics. at each turn, the break seems to get heavier as layers are added to the mix. when the bassline drops, the groove is undeniable, and will have your head nodding in approval. the song chugs along and builds to a crescendo with it s epic pads and tasteful atmospherics.
“bella l’amore”, is the second offering, and it shows a different side to blade s diverse productions. the track begins with a light break, airy efx, and chiming keys, that set the backdrop for this tight production. at the drop, the drums fill in nicely and the warm 808 bassline punch through the mix. overall, blade delivers big on this release, and will surely satisfy his fans with this slice of d&b heaven.

the real thing (1989) turned out to be faith no mores most aptly named record as it presents the bands most revered line-up. mike patton on vocals proved a massive improvement on their previous singer. added at the last moment to complement a set of strong, funky songs, he joined roddy bottum on keys, jim martin on guitars, bassist bill gould and mike bordin on drums. the hit single epic proved to be just that, and is one of the most recognizable faith no more songs in their repertoire

as a longtime chicago and detroit house-head who spent hours listening to sets online, justin ramsey packed up his bags and jumped ship to berlin to get involved in its thriving music scene. the result - spacey pads, warm vocal samples, and driving drums which make up the backbone for each cut. don’t just keep me is a deep and trippy ep, dressed up with bouncing bass lines and breaks to dance to.

the ep is driven by two upfront drum & bass productions that highlight reso’s attention to detail and flair for music with an epic scope. ‘kodama’ is an eight-minute long excursion of relentless drums, tight edits, and roaring bass lines that jolts you to action. on the flip side ’tiberium’ plays with a bright, uplifting lead before plunging into a rolling break and warm bass offset by soft keys and female vocals. this is drum & bass as sweeping, cinematic compositions not just dancefloor music by the numbers. the ep also showcases other sides of reso’s sonic world with the instrumental break of ‘fluid mechanics’ resetting the mood and contrasting against the rush of ‘kodama’ with atmospheric tinges, floating keys, and soaring guitar riffs. the ep closes on another upfront note with ‘mantis’, which swaps the frenetic breaks and tempos of drum & bass for houseleaning 4/4 rhythms and speeds while remaining just as effective.

d-operation drop is a 6-man crew from cesena, italy with a strong and growing catalog of sound system killers, from orthodox steppers to dubstep abstractions and strange hybrids of the two. recent releases on moonshine, artikal, and lion charge have cemented their position, and we are thrilled to invite them into the zamzam fold with two chunks of 140 weight. “warrior march” opens with a mesmerizing pad that immediately draws the unsuspecting into a unique soundworld and doesn’t let go til the runout groove. a smeared, chopping-block snare, deep subsonic rumblings, swung percussion, massed yet minimal horns make a darkly coiled track, menacing yet full of funk and movement. “sativa team” captivates just as deeply with fewer moving parts, loping drums and leaden percussion, churning bassline, chopped and glitched ja-voices and sound tape, and ominous, clipped horns that wobble with tape delay in a strange airless void. brooding yet cathartic, tripped out but fully physical, with both tunes d-operation drop display their total control over a restrained and powerful palette.

sneaker social club follow up a slew of experimental, bass-driven records including neil landstrumm s dragon under lp and 12-s from bass clef, luke s anger and throwing snow with another solid piece of club tackle courtesy of brighton based etch. staying true to form in the follow up to acclaimed releases on soundman chronicles, wisdom teeth and lapsus - etch returns with 4 breaks-laden tracks reminiscent of moving shadow s golden era, rife with brash and burly kick drums, scattered snares and capacious atmospheres showcasing a young artist firmly on the ascent.

berlin producer troy gunner marks a new step in an ascendant career with the introduction of his very own imprint. simply titled ‘gunner’, this project will be predominantly vinyl-focused and will act as a platform for his own productions as well selected peers. it kicks off with 3 of his own tracks - all of which carrying a chilly quality whilst bearing troy s distinctive blend of stiff drums, heady atmospheres and muscular low end. support from resident advisor, dj mag, mixmag, zenker brothers, moxie, hodge, mickey pearce, xxxy, mj cole, john osborn, brendon moeller, carl craig, ivan smagghe, woz, christian martin, claude vonstroke, gorgon city, groove armada, tensnake, james zabiela, richy ahmed, my nu leng, altered natives, danny tenaglia, horse meat disco, huxley, phaeleh, gene farris, eddie temple-morris, shadow child + many more.

on 7th august the godfather mike dunn presents an ep fuelled by a pumping heart of pure house, entitled ‘dj beat that shhh’ / ‘move it work it’. taken from his forthcoming album due for release in october 2017. both tracks capture mike’s essence, placing his trademark hip house booty style vocals and stripped-back, jacking drums centre stage. ‘dj beat that shit’ is classic, bumping 90s chi goodness updated with modern technology, whilst ‘move it, work it’ is a no-nonsence smoke and strobe throbber, that recalls the best of trax and dj international. for anyone who knows their shit, mike should need no introduction, but for those that don’t, he was highly influential in birthing the modern day dance music phenomenon, especially with tracks like ‘face the nation’, ‘god made me phunky’, ‘let it be house’ and ‘personal problem’. mike created hip house, dj’d with fellow legends ron hardy, larry heard and armando gallop, produced for house heroes armando, fast eddie and k-alexi shelby, and worked with the iconic voices of byron stingley and kym english. after a long absence from djing in europe, mike returned in 2015 to rock crowds at panorama bar, fabric, concrete, sub club and glastonbury, demonstrating why the chicago og is still very much in demand.

after a short break, caduceus records returns with a weighty techno 12inch by long-time friend pascal hetzel. the berlin-based producer delivers four storming tracks that cleverly translate the 90s techno heritage into the present. on motion blur a hypnotic bleep sequence gives way for majestic pad sweeps just in time for your serotonine rush. -stutter- is more restrained, with a modulating chord sequence and sturdy drums, while -timelapse- catapults into darker territory filled with industrial shrapnel and an extra bit of high-octane paranoia. strobe is the fittingly titled closer of the ep. a pummeling piece of monochrome techno hypnosis with a massive kickdrum drenched in reverb and icy atmosphere.

its clear from the opening seconds of tu fawnings debut full length, hearts on hold, that theres something very, very different about this portland, oregon band. the two note trumpet refrain of >multiply a house< that echoes like the distant sound of a battlefield, the ghostly chanting writhing around it as though in a trance, the funereal drums that boom in the background and the harmonies emerging as the chorus unfurls: these are not the sound of your everyday indie rock act.

pittsburghs most loved sons, the modey lemon, rip through 3 years of silence with their new record, season of sweets. with one foot in the sci fi darkness of their last record curious city, one foot in their past garage angst ridden wreckage and one foot in the kautrock brilliance of the german frontier (what, three feet?) season of sweets is a fuzzed out, driving masterpiece with catchy hooks beaten to death by guitar / synth mayhem and the anchor of paul quattrones drums of passion. as primitive as it is futuristic, modey lemon is recreating the present, molecule by molecule, every second of every breath. the trio from pittsburgh returns with another helping of sugary sweetness that rots your teeth and leaves you wanting more. recorded during the dead of winter in pittsburgh, pa at the brass factory. mixed and recorded by jason kirker, member and principal noisemaker. the last 2 years have been very, very interesting for the band. after signing with mute recording in the uk and playing the granddaddy of all venues, the fillmore opening for dinosaur jr., the band took some time away to regroup and work on new material. the result is season of sweets. driven by drummer extraordinaire paul quattrone, the songs twist and turn through the imagery and dark rock that has made modey lemon famous. jason kirker (engineer and band member) uses various keyboards, moogs and instruments to make the sound more full. at the heart of this album is the energy and mysticism singer phil boyd leads you on. track number 5, become a monk is the more pop oriented and accessible track, with a great back beat and bass.

after the huge success of their first collaboration, doorly and el prevost are back for part two: this time the world touring doorly serves up a hot original that gets remixed by red rack‘em and el prevost, while el prevost also serves up an original of his own, all on his own no speakers label. the first ep, featuring a lee foss remix, got support form the likes of paco osuna, solomun and groove armada and this second instalment is set to be just as big this summer. doorly is a dance heavyweight who headlines clubs like space ibiza on his global travels, releases on cajual, hot creations and dirtybird and is no stranger to hitting high places in the charts with his big and infectious sounds. as a dj he is energetic and can make a mark on any dance floor, and so will this new tune, ’sonder.’ it is six superbly deep and atmospheric minutes of warm, rolling drums and searching synths that bring an intergalactic feel next to twinkling keys. jostling percussion brings a little loose funk and the whole thing is sure to lock in dance floors. el prevost then steps up to remix after 15 years of putting out killer cuts on labels like third ear. his music has made its way into the record bags of tastemakers like steve bug, dj hell and steffi and this excellent remix shows off his singular style again. it is a little tougher and more energetic than the original, with sprinkled hits, rumbling bass and pixelated synth lines dancing about up top. then comes red rack‘em, the bergerac boss who had a huge hit with ‘wonky disco bassline banger’ last year. it was one of the tracks of the year and has been followed by an equally brilliant album by this esteemed house veteran. his remix here is big, bouncy and off kilter thanks to its coarse hi hats and punchy rubber drums. great vocal treatment adds more wonkiness and broad synth strokes flesh things out into another sure-fire party starter that sounds like little else. last but not least, el prevost offers up a solitary state mix of his own ‘temper mental’. it’s a hugely inventive track with great synth modulations burrowing deep into your brain as dancing hi hats and whirring bass encourage you to cut loose and shift freaky shapes. this is a strong ep that really packs a punch across four standout tracks.

label regulars ulterior motive present two finely cut pieces of drum and bass, both of which are full of the usual hypnotic funk and production prowess that the duo are now synonymous with. ‘step change’ is the monster of the two, with a twisted reese running throughout combined with heavy hitting, tightly tuned drums - a signature ulterior motive creation. it’s the funk that bursts to the forefront on ‘get close’, sitting over an eerie foundation and completing a stellar double pack for their first original tracks on metalheadz in almost 2 years.

let s face it, summer in new york city is sweltering. even with all the windows open and fans on high, it is hard to find refuge in alliance upholstery s chinatown offices. today s sweat though, is due to the -dancer on the shore- ep, the latest release by the brooklyn based band, lemonade (cascine/true panther sounds). -dancer- is a subdued summertime collage of steel drums, buoyant electronic pads and windswept vocals. joined by dee dee from dum dum girls, it is a celebration of the space where humans and nature exist in harmony. originally released digitally as a single on cascine in 2015, the band created a dj friendly extended mix for this release. if you have been to the -air a dancer- party over the last few seasons, you have likely already heard it (sometimes twice in one night!).

debutant trujillo, previously worldwide known as mangelt lands on lowwaxx. the main (a) side of the record by trujillo, is a solid balance of organic textures embraced with synths and modular basses. elegant waveforms rolled with mystic atmospheres. the other side of the record (b) shows up a galaxy settled of raw drums scattered by glitchy percs. melted with analog basslines result from the union of two alchemists of the mental dancefloor. trujillo & lowwaxx, hatch the perfect potion ever since they team up.

from brussels comes cleveland, born in luxembourg from an italian family, andrea mancini, a 28 years old music producer has been behind releases on john talabot’s hivern discs, oskar offermann’s white, munich’s permanent vacation (and others). cleveland is able to enthral and captivate his audience, putting influences from various genres into one smooth hypnotic, adventurous and personal journey. built around warm tones of analog synths, esoteric atmospheres and percussive drums, cleveland s productions have an overall dreamy feel without losing its dance floor focus. he arranges every sound and movement to work in fluid harmony, gently lifting dance floors off the ground before they realise they re floating. he will release two new eps in summer 2017.

austin-based musician eliot lipp delivers “skywave”, an album lipp has been working on for the past several months. with influences from sci-fi soundtracks and 70s and 80s funk, he channels a collection of weird, high-definition, melodic beats. in these nine songs lipp feels he “might have everything i want to say in one moment.” recreating key musical moments in a current and relatable way was the goal in producing skywave and giving himself permission to take some risks as well. with a versatile approach, lipp has created opportunities to connect with some of the artists he first looked up to, playing in cities across america and abroad always returning to his hometown in the pacific northwest. collaboration plays a role in all his albums. he’s been a fan of emancipator for a years now and was beyond excited to get his “not quite awake” remix. he asked dmc champ chris karns to scratch on ‘joyride’. in addition to doing cuts, chris ended up playing live drums and layering unique vocal samples. ‘reflection’ came from a jam session with gibbz and cherub in their nashville studio. one of lipp’s biggest musical influences last year came from a group of producers from seattle that call themselves fish tank friends. most of them had a hand in the early stages of ‘spiders’. with monthly trips planned from texas back to washington, he anticipates more evenings surrounded by friends, fans, and new listeners where he brings everyone together through the touch of a button.

the man, the myth, the legend that is danny soopasoul bennett has returned to spread the good word of funk once again. pushin weight is the storming new instrumental track from our man soopasoul and as usual it doesn t disappoint. rambunctious sax lines and soaking wet wah wah chords ride over the tight drums and grooving congas. there s more breaks than a fat man running a marathon with this floor filler and more exciting still, it s coming out on 7- vinyl for your listening pleasure. the aptly titled b-side and perfect foil to this funky monster is his classic track â&#128,&#147, the fan favourite: brand nu which has had a cheeky little 7- rework to make it, wellâ&#128,¦brand new.

the new jerusalem-based label raash records opens its doors to spread the city s heavy mind-bending sound. the label kicks off with a debut 7inch by producer/musician ilia gorovitz. it s an explosive mixture of raw drums, gut-shaking riffs and head-swirling synths, influenced by the 1970 s horror film soundtracks and today s bass-heavy electronica - a combination that makes it appeal equally to psych and beat heads alike. side a s -turmoil- is a dirty and aggressive mid-tempo slasher, backed with a krauty crawling horror downbeat of -simmering with no end- on the flipside. recommended for fans of mophono, the gaslamp killer, drumetrics and goblin.

ocean parkway, the new sublabel from brooklyn s names you can trust, launches with a deep dive! drawing inspiration from sounds as varied as tortoise and trentmøller, lavender lagoon eschews traditional genre cliches, blending sampled drums and synth patches to paint an electronic collage inspired by the lush, organic flow of nature. the a-side presents an optimistic tryptic: a boy hunting for butterflies, dogs swimming in suburban pools, and the smell of spring rain. but flip it over to side b and a darker realm is revealed â&#128,&#148, one in which the cold physics of outerspace reign supreme, and the heavy computerized rhythms take control.

following on from the success of the first astrophonica compilation, the mixmag album of the month-rated gradients, label head fracture delivers the action-packed cold & rain ep. this is fracture’s first solo ep on astrophonica and it’s been worth the wait with four tracks showcasing the londoner’s creative energy and attention to detail. as ever, the release comes packaged with artwork from utile creative. the ep is propelled by the title track, built around an irresistible vocal sample from featured artist inaya day. the original, 1997’s ‘hold your head up high’, featured day in full house diva mode delivering a positive message. for his take fracture hones in on a specific line, speeds it up, and chops it with trademark expertise until we’re left with something he admits feels a little more cold though no less powerful. propelling day’s voice forward are expertly diced breakbeats, rolling percussion, and synth stabs for a short but intense ride. completing the a side is ‘your time’, a no-nonsense rollout with 2 step drums, filtered breaks, and catchy basslines playing call and answer with gnarly melodies. you can’t put it better than the sample does: this is one for the junglistical massive.

now that his excellent free-to-download new double album, stories from sa talaia, is out, hosh is busy releasing the tacks from it on separate eps. they come on the ibiza based diynamic associate s own fryhide label, and after part one comes part two with four more essential tracks. the first is a collaboration with tim englehardt and is a supple track laden with emotive synth patterns. it has beats that rise up and down and take you on a trip to the outer edges of the galaxy. then, ocean data is an eight minute deep techno opus with watery pads, a spacious atmosphere and icy hi hats driving things along as you get swept up in the groove. on the flipside, hosh links with lehar and they come up with the brilliant o fratello mio, a driving track with physical drums and warped synth sounds. it is filled with subtle effects that add dynamism to the moody groove and again features some magical melodic sequences. last of all, fighting the deamons is a dark and late night track sprinkled with cow bells. it s for heads down dancing on intense floors and closes out a perfect second ep.
