* big, bad and heavy! two of pinch’s biggest dance floor bangers, remixed by one of uk dubstep’s hardest hitters, kromestar. guaranteed rewinds. * ‘the boxer’ first appeared on tectonic back in 2010, fusing grime and dubstep with tribal drums and tearing squarewave bass. kromestar stays true to the original but switches his stance to swing hard with a left hook, southpaw style. after a moody build up, the intro breaks away into a brief moment of calm, before bass comes out fighting, throwing knock out punches hard and fast. tried and tested dancefloor damage of the highest order. * flip then for an equally dangerous remix of pinch’s deep medi release ‘swish’, from back in 2011. simple, effective and deadly, kromestar gives this classic an update, setting it up for another few years of wheel-ups

“cliché’s principle” exhibits the two-sided aura of an artist long familiar with the cultivation of diy ethos: an effortless expulsion of playful immediacy and the unfolding of a musician well versed in unpretentious composition. lucy cliché’s five track ep for fleisch records is a jacking romp through 120-125bpm electro/new-beat, swooning through downcast ambience, lobotomised vocal samples and sweat-drenched hardware rhythms.
lucy’s musical oeuvre piles high, as a figure in the sydney underground for the past 15 years she has always explored sounds that playfully antagonize the status-quo, the dysfunctional no-wave approach of her band naked on the vague and the manipulated tape ambience of half high echo throughout cliché’s principle in the form of chorus buzzed synth chords, abstract drones and ethereal evocation. while there is the strong presence of a live veteran at work behind the machines, cliché’s principle holds five tracks produced purely with the intention of paving the dance-floor.

the elusive producer nortasun hasn’t released a record since his debut one through saft back in 2016. after two years, it’s time for a follow up which is fittingly named “two”. the track titles also resume in a fashionable manner with the opening track being titled: “untitled 3”. on this track, nortasun introduces a firm rhythm that is supported by the impossibly beautiful strings that serve as the tracks key element and appear throughout. next up is the antonzap remix. antonzap doesn’t do the stereotypical remix take on the original. his version is dub laden, otherworldly, and only implements miniscule pieces from the original take. with just under 7 minutes, the remix version is a true sonic voyage.
on the b-side, nortasun takes a more dubbed out approach to modern day house music. “untitled 4” is a work of precision. the carefully crafted hats and dub elements sizzle throughout the entire track and help the track morph into a stunning piece of dance floor music around the four minute mark. nortasun cleverly introduces a thumping bass that changes up the mood for the entire work.

a true trip-hop classic: tricky’s 1995 debut album “maxinquaye” is finally available on vinyl again.

mantra makes an entry to finnish proform series with his raw and uncompromised four track acid ep called “the abyss”. after releases on bunker records, polybius trax, solar one music and abstract acid under the mantra alias craig stainton delivers four tracks of jackin pure acid techno madness in the veins of true underground. starting with “next culture” is a good introduction to pumping beats and a moaning 303 while “beat methods” takes a rougher and tougher angle to acid. just imagine yourself in a warehouse party in the morning jammin to some acid. on the b-side “the abyss” leads us to the deep end of the 303 or even to the bottom of the acid sea. “singularity” ends this package with great 303 lines definitely burning up the house! a limited and numbered edition of 200, after that it’s gone, no represses, no digital, so you know what to do!

visionquest return to their special edition vinyl-only series and welcome a new friend to the family: greek craftsman bodj. following a remarkable run of releases on the likes of his own audiorama and memoria earlier this year, the athens-based dj continues his vein of form with these four wide-ranging tracks... ‘parusha’ takes the lead with warm tones and textures. airy pads and an insatiable chicago-like bump to the voluptuous bassline ensure this grabs full attention the moment it enters the mix. it’s backed by three other vital cuts that express bodj’s true breadth and vision: ‘miaplacidus’ celebrates one of the brightest stars in the night sky with a stripped back, sub heavy hypnotic groove, ‘phantom’ kicks with timeless house dynamics that subtly evolve, twist, turn and fold into each other over its eight minute journey before we end with the wonderfully titled ‘trip to planet love’. once again showing bodj’s scope and stylistic flexibility, it closes the show with a hip-wriggling electro twist. slinky breakbeats, bubbling bass and a space-age feel, it’s every bit as cosmic and full of love as its title suggests. a perfect way to end another perfect visionquest trip. happy travels..
