eighteen: the year of release, 2018. eighteen: the age at which i first used a synthesizer. in creating eighteen i worked independently in the studio, initially building up tracks with synthesizers and found sounds recorded in my daily comings and goings. after working with the tracks over a period of months, i shared them with a few musicians, who added their own instrumental layers. though working independently, we all shared a similar working process: working in our personal recording spaces, as opposed to larger recording studios.

its time to deliver the second ep from adana twins latest mix compilation and with this one we set the focus to the more organic and off kilter leanings from lehar, sbth, acid pauli, musumeci and stereocalypse. kicking things off is italys lehar with his super slick �blue wolf where robust percussions culminate in a potent groove laying the foundation for lush sonic melodies that transport you into uniquely sublime spaces. sbth follows with the exceptionally unique �4w1r6 where they forgo the standard four-to-the-floor approach and employ a distinguished and uncommonly unique 3/4 time signature to full effect creating a swelling and brooding number assuring a definite, clear memory long after it ends. flipping to the b-side we see the renowned acid pauli in top form as he relies heavily on thick organic percussion and plush musicality with his �greetings from orgonon before switching gears as musumeci delivers a stunner with �invaders where past meets present as disco, techno and house all meet in one harmonious culmination. to round out the ep, stereocalypses �jubeelee! is an expertly crafted venture into the modern techniques of infectious afro-house concluding an extremely well rounded ep showcasing the diversity of adana twins selection and diversity.

as always, the return of ruede hagelstein is inevitable and with each return he ups the ante tenfold showcasing his ever growing prowess behind the studio door. it seems as if, with each ruede ep, the amount of elements utilized shrinks while at the same time the sound grows in power and dominance and that could not be better exemplified than here. consisting of two originals and a remix from the one and only martin buttrich, the ep is a gross display of well thought out, mature dance floor jewels. opening the short player is hagelsteins �dematerialize feat. justin evans where a sinister yet soothing vocal sets the tone for the entire track, laying the groundwork for a gorgeous bass drum and shimmers of distant percussion carry us into celestial spaces. �forward vision is up next and follows suit by relying on a brooding minimal groove to drive the shimmers of glistening atmospherics and sparkling sonics optimal for dizzy and delirious club moments. last but certainly not least we turn to the legend who is martin buttrich to twist the original �dematerialize feat. justin evan into a more straightforward composition with his signature stylings opening the doors of accessibility to a wider demographic of disc jockeys resulting in a track that stretches the playability to a wide range of disc jockeys

you may not have heard the name jackson almond before, but you will have likely heard some of his music. having released on wotnot back in 2013 under the name real, with a flurry of eps, remixes and bootlegs under this name and as part of duo boean (on bbe, warner, xvi & slowfoot among others), jackson has been delighting ears for a while now, with a particular knack for balancing hooks and earworms with original ideas and creative production. this ep began life as a series of headphone jams written when jackson was living outside of the city in self-imposed exile, tuning into the goings on in dance music from an external position. it was then polished into dancefloor gems at the wotnot studio at the total refreshment centre. the music reflects this, with the sonic palette reflecting lo-fi and outsider house, but with a warmth, depth and musicality specific to his own personal situation.

channeling that classic playful braindance feel of early afx, u-ziq and fellow acid-connoissuer luke vibert, pearl river sound (real name roberto semeraro) has quietly builded up his own profile in the last 5 years with releases on r&s recordss own meda fury, further records, seagrave and x-kalay. not another average idm/breakbeat throwback tough: here prs delivers train with no name, a 6-tracker of razor-like rephlexian science, taking inspiration from his ambivalent work with laptop & old hardware machines, yet, the magic lays down in arrangements and spaces, builded around jacking bassline swings and detuned, lush pads all melted together in powerful u-turn rhythms and genius sampling, from the moody opener elek41 to the demented vocals of cccc2 and mr continue or the straight-up acid of mono sequencer bass. occasional walls of white noise and distorted tones emerge in train 2, possibly his most tense track ever but also one that reveals new sonic solutions for a forthcoming full length that should see the light anytime next year on the label. sharing the same sensibility of fellow roman institutions like lory d or leo anibaldi to keep the acid legacy of the city alive, mixed up is proud to start a new beginning with this release. full sleeved and cut at 45.

super smooth release on nny records full of lush and sensual tracks. on the a side we can listen to nicson (flumo recordings) who delivers an excellent straight to heaven in a deep-house 90s mood, full of energy and class, after him f. vinuesa (solid tapes) approaches lo-fi and acid paths with highlands, a tune that is is capable of transporting you to another dimension. on the b side mateis e. aqir (jungle gym records) presents natural sense, a track that also takes you to a different dimension, this time more oriented to open spaces, in a balearic and new age mood fused with a leftfield touch which is a delight, and to close the compilation we have the great work of i see you in the plants, the new aka by pablo diskko for productions in an ambient techno-dub wave that absorbs you and catches you. a superb and an essential work.

following on from angophora s beautiful long player, ken oath is back with another full length lp from low flung. friends of the label will note that this is his third release for ken oath, and it s a fittingly mature and expansive statement for a debut lp. perhaps mature is the wrong word here, as all his brilliant ideas are backed up by a sense of whimsy that betrays his playful side. the music strikes a balance between styles and spaces that could perfectly soundtrack moments at home, in the club, and in the liminal spaces between. danny s efforts at writing dance music still contain the idiosyncratic approaches of his ambient works: the deadly deep subs and endless echo spirals on -rising damp- sounds like someone trying to piece together a drum & bass track after an off-hand conversation about the genre. he s transmuted the propulsive energy of jungle into something no less dynamic, full of stops and starts and sonic pressure but flush with space. -tarp climber- is at heart a rollicking digi-dub. the more ambient moments of the lp are equally captivating - the glassy tones of -frozen coat- sound like a space-age ensemble soundtracking a floating lounge on a suite of glass instruments, while -ocean grove- blends field recordings and dreamy synthesizer melodies to create an uncanny sense of place that unroots you from wherever you re listening. there s a heavy emphasis on danny s collaborators as well - the cold emotion duo is reprised on the spacey �hills hoist�. closer -bacchus marsh- is a collaboration with prophets, a cross-state ensemble that defy any easy categorisation. the music here flirts with jazz and minimalism but with a dubwise production aesthetic to produce something that recalls khan jamal s visionary -drum dance to the motherland- in spirit and practice, but this whole album sounds as otherworldly and one-of-a-kind as the aforementioned lp.

following his recent release on the see double va, rising talent josh baker finds a home once again on luca cazal and brigante�s imprint with his explore ep. original fuse london resident rich nxt is also onboard to deliver an elevating remix. first supported by romanian master barac, title track explore is a surefire weapon for the dancefloor. jaxn�s breathy vocals effortlessly complement the peak-time bass and glistening hi-hats. on the b-side, rich nxt adds a funkier bassline and light keys for his rework of the title track. the ep closes with black lines, a more formidable number with baker employing darker elements into his production. the talented producer explains � after receiving some exceptional vocals from jaxn, �explore� wrote itself. i wanted to create a real peak-time song, one suited for all spaces and i�m happy to see it get consistently road-tested at dc10. �black lines� is a moodier acid track that i feel compliments �explore� massively.� since the tender age of 16, josh baker s passion and enthusiasm for house music has grown from strength to strength. the young manchester producer also curates his own successful night, you&me, which has since gone on to take place in leeds, newcastle and ibiza. his musical output has garnered support from big names such as apollonia, richy ahmed, ben rau and rich nxt
