after the huge succes of its tenth release (davide squillace & guti), hideout is back with with the third slice of the deconstruction revisited series. this time, crocodile tears, which appeared on davide squillaces tutti frutti ep (ho003) got offered three amazing relectures. it all starts with mr robert dietz (cadenza, cecille ...), who delivers a super modern and energetic relecture, where intelligent synthetic percussions mess around with weird noises and processed effects. after two minutes a monophonic synths starts its battle with vocals from squillaces original to end up on a more minimal groove. gflame aka portugese techno start cisco ferreiras (the advent) relecture directly sets the tone: a nasty bassline with a crazy synth stab flies over a soft but very heavy techno beat, to evolve to an elegant tech house track (no bongos involved). finally sis, the man behind cocolino imprint, reinterpretation starts with a long intro with the kick dropping after more than 3 minutes. the melancholic feeling of the track builds into a very subtile beat with reverbered elements all over. the percussion layers and delicate melodic synths add some organic flavour to the music so the 14 minutes remix is never boring and takes you to a nice journey thru sounds. you can tell somebody was in love when making such a beautiful song. another must have from hideout!

get ready for a new exciting collaborative project on electric deluxe! >workshops< is a new experimental series of releases by phil kieran and jochem paap (aka speedy j). the idea behind this project is to explore the recording techniques used in the middle of the 20th century and dating right back to the mid 1950s. famous inspirational places like bbc radiophonic workshops in england and philips lab in holland have seen some of the most innovative production techniques, experimenting with the first use of stereo, modular synths, found sounds and reel to reel tapes. the end result was always something space age and promisingly futuristic and still to this day fresh sounding, crisp and exciting. phil kieran and jochem paap have decided to use this inspiration to effortlessly accomplish marrying the past, present and future in an innovative mix of old ideas with new.

tartelet laber manager emil margetli and copenhagen dj stalwart mathias mesteno make up this newly formed duo. the two of them have been djing together for years and share a mutual interest in vintage electronic music.

steady muffin : on the flip, muff deep arms itself with piano licks, lush, organic percussion and all-out, good-time party vibrations. this track embraces everything that is summer from balearic atmospherics, over your favourite childhood sunset, to italo and straight-up disco.

for alec koone, the 20 year old, pennsylvania resident, who was 19 and based in new york at the time of his first release, >wander / wonder< is a coming of age album that sees him expand upon the unique sound that attracted him so much attention to begin with. in koone s own words: it s an open ended album, and i think individuals should make their own meaning of it so that it is something actually real to them. it s not classical music, but in the tradition of a classical work like a bach cello suite, i see it as more of a whole musical piece with themes/motifs/ideas reoccurring throughout, connecting the tracks together as opposed to simply being a collection of songs that sit next to each other in isolation. it s also an album that should be listened to loudly. wander / wonder is a mysterious and genuinely haunting record that seems to exist in a world all of it s own making, balanced between the ecstatic wonder referenced in the title and something altogether more indefinable and uncertain of itself, like shards of light flickering through a blanket of fog, and even though wander / wonder is undeniably an electronic album, it feels strangely organic, rooted in nature, synthetic textures and distorted voices harmonizing with an ever present oceanic shimmer. wander / wonder was written and produced by alec koone in new york and pennsylvania. mixed by alec koone and sam haar (member of blondes) in new york city.

it seems like hawkinson has drawn his inspiration from the lush crackling whispering of the woods. akiko seems to see it the same way and with her remix makes a compelling overall package of the second 12 inch by phunkit. >unterholz< is a crisp driving, deep techno roller with playful percussion elements, subtle functionally-held choral dubs and a bass line drily humming to itself. >stillleben< crackles bone-dry and elegantly at the same time, the light melodic phrases form a great contrast to the massive wall of bass. akiko is tinkering a little organic dust monster out of >stillleben<. definitely superb how she is breathing her principle of life into the whole theme, so that you almost wish the track would never end.

canadas cobblestone jazz have established themselves as one of the most unique and inspiring bands of the past decade. thanks to their exploration of house through the eyes of a jazz improv group, their music is derived from the organic energy of the groups jam sessions and their now legendary live performances. comprised of members tyger dhula, mathew jonson, danuel tate along with newest addition the mole, cobblestone jazz are as accomplished individually as musicians and performers as they are a band - united by long term friendship, respect and passion for writing music in the moment. their decade long history of releases on iswhatitis, !k7 and wagon repair have earned the praise and long time support from the likes of gilles peterson, carl craig, luciano and sven väth. >memories (from where we are)< celebrates the first of a series of 12 inch releases that will come out on wagon repair over the course of 2011/12. the outcome of a berlin jam session last fall, the band incorporated a fender rhodes, vocoder, and sh-101 to make up the core voicing of the tracks while a cs-20 provides the drive at the end of both. in typical cobblestone jazz fashion, the track was mixed live with no prior sequencing arrangement. the session was then cut by the mole into two sublime edits - the results could be their strongest release since >dump truck<.

the good the bad the ugly the evil is a full on and brandnew 4 track ep from our cologne artist roland m. dill. roland has worked here with a stronger live-set up resulting in tracks more organic. developing from within rather than being developed, the tracks seem to have a stronger hypnotic edge to them. according to the titels the track all show diffferents characteristic. starting with the evil this track is not very obvious but works very much by itself, whereas the good is a perfect intermezzo for djs who really build up their sets with a lot of skill. the ugly is a mental track... it has stunts, it screams, it sees no end... this is mandness on the highest level and also the bad is written in this veain.

subtlety is not the first word used in connection with most djs, but there is much more the métier of germany s gregor tresher than simply playing records, as lights from the inside attest: just as a painting or photograph appears to move if one stares at it long enough, with close listening the stratified grooves and melodies assembled on gregor s stunning third full-lenght artist album reveal an organic universe of shifting sound. meticulous attention to the latter element—melody—was of utmost concern to the frankfurt resident. not obvious, eight-bar earworms that would quickly exhaust their welcome, but musical lines that could repeat, develop and intertwine in different patterns. in this regard, lights from the inside harks back to gregor tresher s earlier releases, but as always his sound aesthetic continues to evolve in new directions.

if we add a new label to electronic music, is it really needed, wasnt music originally unlabeled? - lads contemporary productions could be called anticipated techno, architect techno, or architechno. these two tracks are simply brilliant and beyond what i have heard to date. the way lad is building space procures the feeling to be part of the music, to be in it, swallowed by it. >isolate< and >bergvall< are just two hypnotizing masterpieces, transporting you into unknown and untamed territories. deep, soulful, cinematographic, intriguing, moving. my drug is music. from 2d to real 3d chills. vanina hänin woods, forests, deep and dark spaces, like if kubrick, kurosawa and marinetti would have gathered together to produce music, simply highly cinematographic and futuristic. lad builds up organic visions, redefying sound in such a personal way. definitively two superb, soulful, finely shaped and constructed electronic pieces which will undoubtedly make you dance the night away. in the impressive flow of new talent in 2011 on fokuz recordings we already had the pleasure to present the sound of brother, command strange and intelligent manners among others. the next flavour of the funky liquid melting pot called fokuz recordings goes by the name donnie dubson. berlin based irishman donnie o sullivan aka donnie dubson started releasing his funky rollers on have a break and influenza media and already featured on fokuz on the chronicles of the deep lp together with stunna back in 2007. the grapefruit / battlecat release on influenza media in 2009 got him a lot of attention and is still heard in dj sets today. now its 2011 and fokuz presents the beautiful debut album of donnie dubson! his sound can be described as refreshing and original liquid drum n bass with a touch of the well known atmospheric drum n bass vibes from the mid 0s. his basslines are the unique sellingpoint as well as his ability to create an organic feel in the music thats only done by the few who truly understand what liquid drum n bass is all about. pleasuring both critical listeners and the dancefloor audience this album is a perfect overview of the sound fokuz stands for. a great example of how music can be time-less in this decade of fast moving consumer goods.

almost three years after their release >lake<, odessa appear appealing their scene again. actually, their privacy breaktime should not have been a musical discontinuance, too. but as it sometimes goes things happen abruptly. although the ep >memory leak< already was pre-produced in 2009 it got just recently a detailed finishing. leave off the idea these tracks could have had their half-life already, not at all. odessa stay here and now, presenting reduced, cool-organic house with wide atmospheres. even though odessa music keeps ascetical aesthetics since the beginning a certain pathos can deeply be felt. once again, but just for one track (>l aurore<), frederique frankes exceptional voice comes to effect.
