from the start of this debut release from amsterdam-based lapien, one conceives that the young producer is conscientious. >anvers<, the french name for belgian port antwerp, starts in unassuming manner, synths swimming, bass pondering, a gentle cymbal tapping. its the sound of thoughtful admiration, as if lapien is standing in front of the citys towering gothic cathedral, motionless in the midst of a now modern metropolis. but then, as loops spring uncomfortably back and an insistent beat thunders into the fray, one realizes that this is no time for admiring architecture: this is a night drive through the city � coarse orange streetlamps, chrome blue reflections, droplet-stained window panes. it is, also, at an unusually and unsettlingly fast pace, dragging its deeper house timbres and textures upwards. conforces mix is anything but restful: alarms in the distance fall around offbeat rhythms of increasingly diverse dynamics, bringing rain down on the city at night. to end, fred ps composition is heavy & uncompromising, yet it quivers with synths washed in beautiful, calming ambience

from celle into the wide world: these days guido schneider is one of the major globetrotters among djs and producers worldwide, but he began his career 15 years ago in provincial germany. however, instead of baking bread rolls, schneider founded his own label neue welten right from the beginning. it was a move that naturally brought him to the capital of electronic music in berlin. what followed was a series of exciting and successful collaborations with other renowned artists, and after dissolving his label, schneider began travelling as a sought after dj, jetting all around the globe. it is little wonder that such a reputable dj and producer also belongs to the diverse highgrade family. he has now produced another ep for the berlin label which brings us the typical guido schneider qualities right before our eyes, or even better: before our ears! the two tracks navigate precicely from the first bar, the minimal sound universe that relies on elaborate percussion, without ever being over produced, and flow into fantastically harmonic vocals that lend the thumping beats an elegant softeness. simply stated, typically schneider.

stefan schutz aka juno6 belongs to the society of the leipzig new school, which for the last 5 years has cut a path through emotions and change in diverse regions. his particular real estate is comfortably between deeper house and thoroughly scrutinized techno. sometimes he tends in one direction, at other times the opposite. all the while juno6 captivates both listeners and dancers alike with something new. his live sets are always an occasion � sound expeditions in the most literal sense embedded powerfully, yet imminently fresh as they are bound to tradition. he even dials up the the ambient/electronic field with project beautiful planet earth, or together with friend daniel stefanik as sensual. the sonic awareness of juno6 is expressed consistently as a potent degree of warmth, which paints a distinct lively and long-lasting tone on club music. the tone is hardly useful as a flavor of the month, but rather, a music with stamina and character. his track >guununk< is for more than a few the quiescent highlight of the fat 5zig compilation. on his second from fat, he displays the juno6 portfolio fully and expands his present effect with a portion of funkiness and a sprinkle of pop � at least on one of the cuts. with clever vocals mr. schulz informs us yet again.

the us born and berlin based walker barnard created a unique ep drawing from his years of experience and studio work with sounds as diverse as hip-hop and minimal techno. featuring the legendary us poet and producer mike ladd and a remix from our good friend iron curtis, the result is something completely different and yet strangely familiar.

after being enclosed for several years with his mpcs and synthesizers, josé rico carries out the 5th downbeat 12 inch influenced by detroit and chicago. the record starts with september rain, a classic deep house track with warm percussion, deep synths and a jazzy piano. urtzi reworks it into a mesmerizing theme with spooky synths and a naïve bassline. then its on to stage, with raw drums, hammond and keyboards somewhere between tetrode and deep transportation. the record is closed by ciclico with a super-bass and a catchy melody. absolutely hypnotic. a diverse release for deep house lovers.

julia porter, best known as miss jools, is the native londoner who cut her teeth and carved her niche in the uk capital, before making mobilee her musical home. her previous collaborative production outfit with audiofly sleeper thief brought her to wider attention in 2006 and then in 2008 she struck out on her own, undertaking solo work and discovering a penchant for slinky, late-night dancefloor sounds with releases such as >la luna< and >que me levante<, proving herself a diverse talent both in the dj booth and in the studio. after a short break, her new release on mobilee >walk away< brings her special musical flavour back to the floor. title track >walk away< it as much minimal and trippy, as it is dreamy and melodic. the same can be said for >whats going on< but this time a powerful vocal is layered over the freaky back drop. meanwhile on the b side >feel you< will keep you spinning. youll definitely find yourself dancing to one of these tracks in the early hours of the morning soon, if you are not playing them yourself�..enjoy!

further to motor city drum ensembles dj kicks compilation, his exclusive single l.o.v.e. has been reworked by the young detroit prodigy kyle hall, the painter and music creator wolfgang voigt and an excellent remix by smallpeople. kyle has been highly influenced and captivated by the underground deep house sound of detroit. inspired by artists such as theo parrish, mike huckaby, rick wade, 3 chairs, kdj and omar s, who believe their music has a certain feeling of the advant garde and liberation from the so-called rules people place upon dance music. kyle took that principle of their music and applied it to music that he was trying to create. wolfgang voigt is known for his numerous, nearly inexhaustible list of one-off projects and aliases. of these, his best known is arguably >gas< a project that saw the marriage of ambient music and 4/4 techno. his remix of motor citys l.o.v.e shows his minimalistic approach to music he has been famed for worldwide. smallpeople are julius steinhoff & just von ahlefeld aka dionne. smallpeople are focused on a wider range of music and can be diverse- between deep house, detroit techno and some chicago flavours but always within the balance of atmospheric warmth and club suitability bringing yet another perfect addition to this remix package. watch out for more big tunes from smallpeople in the near future
