this october, the compilation disco sympathy will be released on versatile. it’s author is vidal benjamin, an outstanding dj / digger, considered by his pals as one of the most brilliant in his category. and that says a lot! here he makes us rediscover the sound that was so characteristic of a certain early eighties french scene: wacky, happy, dancing and at times even poetic. one begins to travel through an era during which the french producers were not afraid to tackle disco, american boogie, british and german synth wave, to present us their version: french, poppy and above all... fun!as a prelude, before releasing the compilation, versatile will come with limited 33 rpm and 45 rpm maxis, on which every track has undergone an editing treatment by mysterious french producers: jean-marc misère (last sighted somewhere near london), dj ringardos (who, since his last versatile release in 2008, chose roman exile), alt (already spotted on the edits du golem and on the us label black disco), and of course vidal benjamin himself, accompanied by gilbert cohen - the boss. on the 45 rpm you ll find no-one less than jeff lasson, of the get a room! duo, who came through with flying colors. and as a bonus beat: misère on the b-side.

ocoeurs latest album a parallel life finds franck zaragoza showcasing his adeptness at fusing thoughtfully crafted melodies with twitchingly syncopated techno. in a recent interview berlin music portal kultmucke introduced zaragoza something of an idm prodigy and while thats a fair summation due to his preference for malleable beatwork and his use of heavily processed field recordings there is more there than simple glitchery. zaragozas melodies, while often shrouded in hazes of static, affect the cinematic minimalism of modern composition. these such comparisons put him stylistically hovering somewhere between the likes of arovane and max richter which is no meager feat. a parallel life aches, breathes, pulsates and is forever churning. it has a subliminal soul that is all too often a casualty of electronic music of this style. the vinyl lp includes a download code.

here s something to stir the loins of any discerning disco dj: a studio hook-up between veteran producer felix dickinson (fresh from his much-loved outing on futureboogie recordings), horse meat disco and one-time dfa man (and renowned multi-instrumentalist) marcus marr. there s an additional contributor, too: a mystery (presumably big-name) vocalist whose talk-box heavy delivery sits somewhere between prince, george clinton and pharrell. the track itself is something of a summer anthem in the making - an immaculately produced p-funk jam with the additional benefit of a shuffling, house-friendly groove. no details on how many copies have been pressed, either way, you d be well advised to snap up a copy while you still can.

straight back with the deepness! moralez, up and coming producer from russia, gets his first ep on gigolo. leaving everything unnecessary behind, moralez delivers stripped back, analogue house somewhere on a highway leading to the borders of techno!early support from locked groove, terranova, digiteria, my favorite robot, jacques renault and murphy jax amongst others.

following his well received fabric mix comp in december 2013, ben sims returns to his own theory imprint with yet another ring release in the form of *reflection*, which features two original new tracks, a remix from rod and a vinyl exclusive. the eponymous opener is a strident, 909 + 707 driven affair that fuses overlapping, stereoscopic tones to a gently distorted and brutalist groove that sits somewhere between dance mania and detroit. *break glass* is the second original on offer and has been a heavily requested track for the past few months. the perfect partner to *reflection*, *break glass* is similarly overdriven but heavy on the sort of mechanical funk that sims does so well. rods version of *reflection* is a linear assault which ebbs and ows with purpose throughout a linear and intense arrangement while sims remix of *break glass* zeros in on bone rattling percussive aesthetics and vox samples, in much demand after featuring on his fabric mix cd.

somewhere along the line the true spirit of the ku was lost in a sea of buddha bar pish and the anaemic meanderings of anyone with a nine bar and a spanish guitar. thankfully, nado uncork their bottle of vintage san rafael dust and sprinkle it liberally over their seventh release to put the sun and fun back into the balearic discotheque. and who better to call upon for authentic 80s oddities than the irrepressible brenda ray, who has plunged into the naffi hq archive and plucked out four vivacious (& previously unreleased) gems, wholly deserving the full light of day.

the central executives what can we say ? not much as it turns out - the generally very forthcoming golf channel crew are remaining tight-lipped about the architects of this, frankly mind-blowing debut long-player from this new nyc collective. a walk in the dark is exactly that, a situationist song-sheet & sonic chaperone to guide us through the back street escapism these troubled times demand. from gently over-driven punk funkin mascara stained hymns, to house that has been thoroughly smudged to the edges of its live music incorporating limits. sitting very comfortably, in a moment of stewed elevation alongside sound signature style machine jams, bare bones vocal led improvisations, discordant arthur russell moments & the distorted reflections of roots house that run to the very core of the big apple. a drop-jaw debut then, that wears its influences proudly, but takes them somewhere entirely new.

last years precursors ep from eduardo de la calle provided quite a curveball release for cadenza records, the spanish dj and producer who has recorded exclusively for his analogue solutions label in the past, turned out a warm and minimal release for lucianos imprint, with all the flair and trademarks of eduardos studio prowess. really though, eduardos approach to electronic music perfectly encapsulates the sound ethics of cadenza emotive, driving, long passages of deep rhythm, often focusing on the bare essentials of a track and enunciating these for an aural joyride
