the barcelona based record store and label run by dj bruce lee is very proud to release the first work from tr, a well known dj in the madrid underground scene. tr was responsible for one of the remixes from the first release on the label. that remix was techno, but his tastes embrace many different styles as we can see now. multi ep is the second release on rhythm control barcelona where tr, colaborates with causmin lizou on the keyboard for the b side tracks. the a side contains 2 90s infuenced breaks and electro tracks titled bassaur and eah (part 1.2 & 3). the b side contains 2 detroit influenced house tracks, fingers de pollo and gitroit highlights. a producer worth following without a doubt!

the resurgence of icelandic techno continues with the latest release on ae recordings, seeing bjarnar jonsson returning to his long standing ohm project alongside emergent talent kvadrant. the pair were last seen on kvadarant s kontakt label, and their production partnership is clearly still yielding quality, dubbed out techno in the finest scandinavian tradition. even if all the tracks are built with a steely techno focus to them, the synth work and sound design scattered throughout the tracks elevates this to a higher level, not least on the bubbling geisers of signal processing that course through the middle of grip.

nebraska fires up his own friends & relations label once again to take a trip into the strain of lilting, summery deep house that has previously fitted in so well on rush hour, mister saturday night and more. this time around nebraska is getting the remix treatment from an all star cast, leading in with the woozy, soul-soaked shuffle of session victim s treatment of -pintxos.- mr beatnick keeps things suitably deep when tackling -rat boogie,- all laid back disco patter and filtered funk, before marcel vogel goes one step further on -keep what ya got- and rolls out slow and juicy funk of the raunchiest kind.

chubby has already earned its stripes as a podcast and party in australia dealing in connoisseurs deep house, and their leap to the world of vinyl is no less classy. the first release splits a 12- between four esteemed practitioners of true skool beats for switched on heads, leading in with antipodean maestro ewan jansen. after delivering the plush tones of his -plants,- moods & grooves label boss mike grant pops up to remix jansen with stunning, understated results. trinidadian deep takes over on the b side with the typically shimmering melodics and dextrous drums he s much loved for. mr yt then serves up a final remix, nudging -move me- just a little up the energy scale with the help of a killer organ line placed at the front of the mix.

a lot of inigo vontier s early material was confined to the digital realm, but now the mexican dj and producer is starting to get recognition on wax for his heady brew of old methods and a taste for the freakier end of the party spectrum. this 12- for mexican label calypso leads in with the strangely unsettling but strident -wirikuta,- before the snappy surge of tightly wound tech variation -marakame- comes leaping into ear shot. -maxa- marks out its own unique space with a heavy broken beat excursion, leaving it to dreems to ruminate on -wirikuta- for a closing remix.

japanese guitarist kazumi watanabe has been a treasure of leftfield music in the far east since the 70s, and jazzy conscious are doing a great service in highlighting the delicate talents of this gifted artist for a new generation. there s a new age lilt to the looped up melodic chime patterns that course through -garuda- as they flirt with watanabe s effervescent playing. kuniyuki then hops on the b side to deliver a contemporary remix of the track that shapes out a brooding, immersive atmosphere populated by earthly drums and looming reverb.

detroit duo ataxia offer up their kodak moment ep via visionquest this march, accompanied by an edit from label co-founders shaun reeves and ryan crosson. eric ricker and ted krisko aka ataxia have been at the forefront of the contemporary house and techno scene for some time, racking up releases on some of the leading labels across the globe such as leftroom, nervous, culprit and play it say it, making the duo one of detroits finest exports in recent years. here we see them making their debut on visionquest, the label of fellow detroit natives ryan crosson, shaun reeves and lee curtiss. vhs leads the package with murky synth swells, resonant synth sweeps and fluttering square wave bass tones at its core as shuffled drums carry the ever-evolving hypnotic groove along. the original mix of kodak moment follows, shifting the focus over to snaking bass lines, mind-bending, modulating synth whirrs and dynamic, choppy percussion throughout. reeves & crossons edit of kodak moment then rounds out the release, stripping things back to ethereal atmospherics and shuffled drums whilst subtly stirring in the original’s hooky bass groove as the interpretation unfolds.

spinning plates is back for another long overdue release, and this time it comes in the form of a split ep featuring returning artist andy rantzen and laccy with two tracks each. the vinyl only release comes with very special screen-printed silkscreen artwork and is pressed on meaty 180g vinyl for an extra warm and deep sound. andy rantzen is a sydney based artist who appeared on this label s superb second release. the 98% track from it was used by sonja moonear in her cocoon mix cd shared with carl craig, and andy is also well-known as part of the duo itch-e and scratch-e along with paul mac. he assumes that alias here for a remix of the dial. laccy aka pascal sturmer is a young but talented artist who regularly finds himself behind the decks at cult clubs like berlin s club de visionaire and the spaced parties in london. a friend of label a&r bruno schmidt, he just released on francesco del garda s label timeless, is a real underground head with a bottomless well of knowledge when it comes to cult sounds and scenes and is signed to the top crisalida agency.

marcel vogel and khalil anthony team up for 2 consecutive releases. brown curls has been three years in the making and has seen several very different incarnations. comes with a filthy remix by nebraska and the bumpy you are a star!

richard sens sound has always been influenced by black dance music and european electronic music and these two tracks carry on the vibe dark, electronic funk! flow master is inspired by old school new york house combined with european industrial body music. sen calls it muscle house. bad meaning good is a lighter, deep groove that takes inspiration from african percussion artists like kongotronics.

fresh from his lets roll ep on radio slaves rekids, hopeworks curator lo shea further cements his status as a true innovator of the uk underground with the iterations ep on duskys 17 steps. leading the charge, iterations is 8 dark twisted minutes of tripped-out melodic techno that will sweat the walls of warehouses from london to tokyo drawing a lineage from the omen, atomic jam and the orbit through to berghain, de school and hopeworks itself. on the remix, stockholm’s peder mannerfelt takes it down an industrial rabbit hole of terror-core synths, rave sirens and sonic paranoia. across rest of ep, lo shea flexes his sonic diversity with ornithurae offering an intruiging mix of bruising bass, twitchy layer loaded percussion and sinister soundscapes - somewhere between d&b don dillinja circa 96, early claude von stroke, radioactive man and fellow sheffield legend oris jay. dark, soulful and ravey, higher closes things off with a uniquely uk hybrid that traces lines through militant tresor-heyday techno, vintage strictly rhythm diva house and hardcore vibes.

pino presti comes back in 2018 on best record italy with another top class disco production. this time featuring the hot voice of roxy robinson on three unreleased extended disco songs from his 1977 quality archive. the drum groove is enriched by the percussions played by one of the biggest italian drummer tullio de piscopo.

dokta has been seen lurking around 20:20 vision with a curious take on that label s particular brand of house. that step to the left becomes more pronounced on this record, where dokta gets to call on a wealth of live instrumentation to animate his sound. on london nights he interweaves vocal, ambling keys and crooked basslines into a curious and utterly inspired cocktail of cool-headed pressure, which jason heath then simmers down to a purely instrumental refrain. burnski goes to the other extreme and beefs the track up for a firm and functional ride, while ralph lawson dubs the track out and gives it a low slung swagger.
