magic wire label head lone picks another smasher, aptly titled delirium tremens, from the elusive neon jung with a suitably precise re-edit from nathan fake on the b.side, fresh after his last remix for radiohead. delirium tremens takes on flavours of garage, soul and psychedelia and glues it all together with an armour plated, mutant electro backbone designed to make the dancefloor lose it for 4 minutes but still keeps the soul firmly intact. its another demonstration of neon jungs ability to take influences from many genres and join the dots to create something fresh, but with all the right reference points to make this accessible to everyone from your backpacking beat head to the hardcore club frequenters. the bass in the first drop of this track is just berserk – theres no other word for it. the b side sees nathan fake up the tempo but draw it out, making this perfect for the more patient crowd. it has nathans signature beat all over it – it rotates, swings and soars gloriously until it finally ends in a warm afterglow, complementing the original perfectly in its grower not a shower approach.

in 1986 steve earles new brand of country-rock music was taking nashville by storm. his debut album >guitar town< topped the billboard country album charts, as did the single with the same title.
influenced by bruce springsteen (who was earles eureka!) and townes van zandt (after whom he named his firstborn), this was one of the strongest & most confident debut albums released in the 80s.

its been a summer of glorious house music for ovum recordings, but those of you more tempted by the darker arts will be happy to find that label chief josh wink has chosen to heat up our winter months with a return to techno with a label debut from portugals, steve parker. over the last few years steves productions have seem him become a regular in the record boxes of the worlds best. his work for labels including quartz music, harthouse, synewave and sci+tec have established him as one of the most in demand dj/producers of his home nation.

after a break for over a year pattern repeat is back again with another two tracks on their own label. both kenneth & resoe has been really busy last year, so it has been difficult to meet up in the studio. but now they had the time to finish two tracks of deep dirty techno from the capitol of denmark copenhagen. again they set it of with raw dirty dub infected grooves and the a side starts up right away with the dub elements intact, and then keeps building through the rest of the track. after the short break a hypnotic atmosphere kicks off in best pattern repeat style. the b side starts slowly with an almost alfred hitchcock kind of atmosphere, with a dull kick underneath. the track keeps gettin more dirty through the 6 min. and 15 secs. it last, with more distortion added to the dub stabs. its a good way that kenneth & resoe returns since the last 12 inch they put out in december 2010, to set the stage for 2012.

juan atkins returns to r&s on a model 500 solo mission. the last model 500 single enlisted the help of the live line up that includes detroit techno royalty mike banks and ur alumni mark taylor, but this latest release is just juan in the studio and back at his best. >control< is vintage model 500, the classic electro that atkins pretty much invented, with his treated vocals riding over the crisp rhythm programming, dark basslines and detroit synths. >the messenger< on the flip is a moodier affair, with the liquid synths almost running away with themselves over the rough beats. model 500 and r&s has proved to have been a classic combination over the years and this release is one to file next to the classics.

after their famous -little chord ep- on tanzbar musik, which had a lot of support and great feedbacks from all over the world, johannes & michael aka gütezeichen teamed up with vocalist artistic elbows and delivers an amazing track called -i ll be fine-! this ep comes also with a deeper grooving remix from the workbench heads binary & durden!

in advance of the release of dapayk & padbergs third full-length sweet nothings - this time round on stil vor talent - the experienced duo are teasing us with the fluffy cloud ep, which showcases three of the album’s many diverse highlights, while keeping the vinyl lovers happy. the a-side bears the lps title track >sweet nothings<, on which dapayk & padberg’s sound takes a turn as they come knocking with a deep but forceful groover, whose distorted high-hats and trancey synth stabs create a vibe both euphoric and weirdly subdued. the lyrics, moreover, emphasise the duality at the core of many dapayk & padberg tracks as the latter ponders ‘you’re good for me - you’re bad for me’. showing another of the duo’s many facets, ‘backyard’ enchants thanks to mystical lyrics sung beautifully over a deep quasi-dubstep structure. marking the ep’s mid-point, the atmospheric song shines through intricately crafted fragility and is the perfect contrast to the previous and following track, while leaving a strong desire for more stuck in the listener’s mind. on the b-side, ‘fluffy clouds’ does quite the opposite to what its title suggests - rather than being a soft little piece, we are treated to big-room techno fodder à la berghain. a skeletal framework of heavy kicks, dark pads, white noise and dense metallics works relentlessly underneath a cold spoken word, proclaiming >not human, not animal - just a body in motion<. machine funk par excellence.

long-winded essays on the musical qualities of wareika are unnecessary. the trio has been playing its way in to the hearts of electronic listeners and party-goers since their first release in 2008 – especially with their brilliant live performances.

one of the labels that caught our eye in the last months was lonesome hero. here their third release and its another quality one. a more then solid house track that kicks off with an intoxicating metalic bassline that hypnotically segues into the rasundas staple groove-heavy drums, with an achingly timeless piano peppered all over the top. on the flip-side, the boys over at campaign of love handle the remix duties. by tracking it out a bit, col have roughed up the original with a combination of strings and 909 snares, while keeping the spirit of the original mix alive with a snippet of its massive bassline.

the dirty dubsters team up with new york dancehall legend screechy dan and rising reggae star whandah the dainty queen , along with sax-man anton petelchyts of fusion wave to produce a big beat reggae fused vocal track. on the remix duties hungarian badman elo of the irie maffia ups the tempo to bring in a big club heavy moobahton remix, jstar then flips the track for a big bass heavy dub version of the track. jinx in dub comes in with a dancehall dnb cross over track and finally dj zetek adds a straight drum and bass remixes to polish off the release.

this one is with morgan phalen, from a band called diamond nights that we love but went unnoticed 6/7 years ago. he lives in los angeles and we had him come over to paris to record. we wrote the lyrics with him and tried, as always, not to sound too stupid, avoiding clichés like come to the dancefoor, but without pretending to be bob dylan either. our lyrics are always a bit quirky. if they sound good and theres a little edge or something fun to them, were happy.
