cultivated electronics is proud to present its 5th release of the year with a remix ep of electro legend carl a finlow aka silicon scally. the track >process< was originally featured cultivated electronics ep 004 and is now re-worked by label head sync 24 and electros flavour of the moment, finish duo morphology. sync 24 opens up the ep with a dark techy interpretation of the original track. chopped up voices, quirky analogue bass lines and spooky atmospheres rolling along at 135 bpm are the order of the day. hot on the heels of two storming eps on abstract forms and an impending long player on zyntax motor city, morphology (aka crc) turn in an analogue machine funk remix combining dark and trippy tones with subtle melodies, sharp beats and tight sequences.

tatu metsätähti and tatu peltonen formed their electro duo mr velcro fastener in the small town of turku, finland back in 1995. in 1999, after a couple of twelve inches, they released their first full length album ‘lucky bastards living up north’ on i220, which was well noted (not only for its hyper colourful cover art by the designers republic). the album took the duo touring in europe and overseas, and led to further releases on labels like stars-music, ali b’s air recordings, solina records, cyber dance and of course billy nasty’s electrix, as well as remixes for the likes of hardfloor, marco carola, dk8, transparent sound and aux88. returning to electrix with their third full ep for the label (and a gap of 13 years!) they have delivered their own unique and recognizable electro sound with two new cuts. ‘a monster in two worlds’ with its electro-funk sound, classic vocoded vocals and grinding groove is a perfect opener, while ‘bakteriofag’ (bacteriophage in english) like its name, creeps up like a virus, infecting the senses with its crisp and shining melody. additionally, there’s remixes of ‘a monster in two worlds’ from silicon scally (carl finlow in his electro guise) and m-twelve (the new moniker recently launched by billy nasty and surface’s nick dunton) to complete the line-up.

alec storey has been making quite a name for himself in techno & electro circles since his debut release on kracktronik back in 2006. renowned for his no-holds-barred live shows (which often incorporate stunning demonstrations of his considerable skills as a drummer), he has also been making considerable progress in the studio, with new equipment and new techniques. the troglodyte ep is a distillation of all these things and more, and although calling it refined might be stretching it a bit (its not called the troglodyte ep for nothing), its certainly fair to say that he has honed his sound into a near-perfect combination of brutal beats, bowel-busting bass, and mind-mangling sound design, all presented at slightly-higher-than-normal tempos, guaranteed to get the pulse racing. for remix duties we called in two heavyweight producers! carl finlow (aka silicon scally) has been turning out immaculate electro, house and techno for over 10 years now, with releases & remixes on such respected labels as mute, warp, playhouse, satamile & scsi-av . here he turns troglodyte into an off-kilter, but driving, electro workout full of twists and turns. kracktronik fave volum doesnt disappoint either. he drops the tempo and increases the spook factor by a few notches, and as always his intricate programming reveals layer after layer of nutritious electronic brain-food.
