second release on the wonderful supafrico records digs up and dusts off four more mega-rare nuggets of superb afro funk. first up is the excellent afro disco groove of kabbalas ashewo ara, a lost gem originally released back in 82 on tiny uk independent red flame and now featuring highly on many collectors wants lists. next is buaris im ready, a chunk of pure dancefloor dynamite with a driving disco groove and great funky synths, taken from the ghanian singer and percussionists awesome 1979 disco soccer lp. on the flip we get the mega-rare and totally essential body & soul, a magnificent 10 minute mid-tempo afro workout recorded in 1980 by nigerian funkster william onyeabor. last up is a great extended edit of the ashantis brilliant funky bubbler everybodys groove with its floor-filling groove and wicked vocals. these lovingly remastered rarities sound better than ever making this ep a must for anyone with a taste for those incredible funky afro grooves.

the rastafarian roots reggae singer brings a majestic touch to the songs he sings, which are deeply infused with his beliefs. with a sense of reverence that only a solemn, pious man as prince alla could put into song, this collection centres on tracks recorded at lee perry-s black ark studio. having spent his early days living in rasta camps & working as a singer for joe gibbs, it was at greenwich farm that prince alla (born keith blake) crossed paths with tapper zukie who was so blown away by alla-s songs he initiated the recording sessions. this release compiles those songs & their extended versions alongside 3 classic extra cuts, -hail rastafari-, -black roses- & the sublime -royal throne room-.

the next release coming out of the roska camp is this smart vinyl-only followup to the roska allstars release. this second instalment brings more of the same versatile movements from some fantastic producers currently leading the way for upfront danceable material. main man roska signs up terror danjah to pull of a smart remix of his track >without it<. its somewhat of a guilty pleasure hearing both artists signature idents in one song, terror with his evil gremlin laugh and roska with his ubiquitous shout out! however its all about the arrangement here as terror reforms those original trumpet sounds and adds some heavy distorted bass. j:kenzo serves up >let it move< which is all out pure electro style with punchy drums and dirty synths, again lending to the surprising nature of this labels output. tickles completes the vinyl only package with >da growler<. drums are tougher than iron and bass harder than rock as tickles blends funky, dubstep and house into his own dance-floor destructive mould. all three records show a different side to the current uk bass and funky scene, yet they somehow could only belong on kicks & snares. a fine package for a burgeoning label.

having finished recording the new zombie zombie album (out: april 2012), etienne jaumet leaves temporarily the duo to record a solo piece, as a need to find oneself again � if the word satori means spiritual awakening, the title track that offers etienne seems to describe the way to this awakening � a winding and sometimes dark path, taking inspiration from both dark disco and synth wave (etienne is particularly keen of those genres, you can listen to his new podcast for versatile records as an evidence) and also to some kind of trance� on b side, jon convex, newcomer on the dubstep / uk garage field and signed on martyns label, delivers a clearly club oriented version, by injecting syncopated beat and the funky groove unique to uk garage.

eddie leader teams up with yuriano on this latest ep from the consistently excellent hudd traxx. following a three-track collaboration earlier in 2011 for the mighty plastic city, the duos release another 3 here on the albatross ep.

manuel tur returns to delusions following his recent classic most of this moment on freerange and proceeds to throw another whacking great curveball for those who have think theyve got his game sussed. its quite safe to say the last year or so manuel has continued to push and redifne himself as a producer, refusing to stick to one sound or repeat himself which has resulted in some amazing releases aswell as some fruitful collaborations. recent remixes for permanent vacation, diynamic and dixons philomena label all display his deeper, left-of-centre and more techno-edged sound. here on delusions we have the (bi) polar opposite in the form of the foolin ep. the title track is a beautiful slice of soul-drenched house which goes for a classic sound with simple horn chords, rolling bass and incessant claps spicing up the groove. a simple vocal refrain is spun in like a dj drops an accapella and once heard this will be stuck in your head for days. a firm fireside favourite with all of us here at dog. theres also an instrumental version of foolin for those with vocalitis. flipping over we have the traveller which sees manuel head down slightly more familiar territory with a heavy, lo-slung groove providing the backdrop for some axelrod-style strings and horns, live bass and floating vocal adlibs. a subtley haunting soundtrack feel pervedes as the arrangement developes but the relentless driving beats make sure this track never strays far from the dancefloor.

russia is a cold country, but it seems that volta cab has created an underworld in his hometown, where he creates, creates and dont stop creating dance music with a warm, acoustic and timeless point of view. konstantyn gives us for this fourth release, three original tunes where acoustic are mixed with synthetics as no one ever had done and gives us details that only come to those music lovers who are never satisfied with a simple rhythm. this time the fiakun boys have two pure elite remixers, such as daniel bortz and ene! which they have remixed >be madly in my love< with their own perspective and initiative.

ex-harry pussy guitarist bill orcutt s 2009 side a new way to pay old debts was an instant classic for those attuned to his brand of stomach-scrapingly raw, hoary blues improvisation. few could have expected the album to be subsequently issued on cd by editions mego, but the more you thought about it the more it made sense - though all-acoustic, orcutt s music is every bit as extreme, violent and threshold-testing as that of, say, florian hecker, russell haswell or mika vainio. as if to prove it wasn t a token gesture towards eclecticism, mego boss peter rehberg has signed a brand new album from orcutt, and what an album it is. for the most part it s in that visceral, coruscating style that he s best known for, all finger-bleeding fretboard assaults that manage to sound at once virtuoso and completely out-of-control, reaching a psychotic climax on the visible bosom: but there are some more reflective passages too, hell, the title track might even be the most chilled thing he s ever recorded. the album was cut at d+m in berlin, which really teases every last drop of blood, sweat and tears out of the recording, which took place at orcutt s home studio in san francisco in spring of 2011. brutal, bludgeoning but incurably romantic, how the thing sings demands your steadfast attention. mind-blowing.

being a product of the age it was written, slow clubs 2009 debut, yeah so, dealt with the all too familiar space between adolescence and the oncoming storm of adulthood. a boy-girl duo who played a flower-adorned chair live, they were the polar opposite of what was coming out of post-arctic monkeys sheffield. slow club were fun, cute, whimsical and all manner of other words just shy of twee - and they hate being called twee. paradise, however, is where the duo grows up. two years on, it stumbles out of a trivial, self-indulgent teenage malaise (where sexual adventure was priority for most) and carries itself with a sense of perspective that only adulthood can give - a darker, more thoughtful view of the world. for instance, on the poignant you, earth or ash, a song about rebecca taylor s granddad, her melancholic vocals (beautiful, as always) evoke an awareness of mortality for those around her: singing -and i know, soon you ll go,- her voice seemingly breaks under the weight of premature grief. whereas even love-wise (an inspiration every band draws from) slow club s lyrical output is glossed with a more mature and detached sense of sauce, with taylor crooning on where i m waking: -i can see you looking at me / you got the brains i ve got the body-.

for this 11th release, we give you the opportunity to grab 3 fantastic trax done by todays hottest producers : massimiliano pagliara & rotciv. massimiliano p. has been responsible of delivering some of the best electronic tracks in those recent years on great labels such as balihu, rush hour, live at robert johnson & needwant. he teamed up for this special release with rotciv (from brazil) who made a name for himself with his special edits & has a very busy year with some upcoming 12 inches on d-edge, mister mistery & rebirth. their name is the rimshooters present >tha jackin theory< !!! heavily inspired by roland 909 chicago mythic drum machine, those guys deliver here 3 anthems, very close in spirit to tensnake & lee foss best work.. their sound is firmly rooted in proto-house and 80s r&b. with ingredients like ancient drum machines, arpeggiated melodies, and 80s pads, their connection boils over with a certain cheekiness that makes listeners grin from ear to ear. those 3 tracks have lots of groove and solid bouncy disco house beats and that piano (mmmhhh !!!). vocals arent the main event here but they do add another level showing some true disco production skills. this is surely going to be one of the biggest release this year & yep, you read right - this is only their first installment! stay tune

and once gain we are back. after a welcome pause dumb unit returns with an energetic four tracker from our man in nyc : elon. a long time label mate elon strips it all back to create a bumping and infectious groove that while resolutely dumb unit is uncharacteristic in its nakedness! no decor here, only pure syncopated and pushing rhythms to notch it up a tad. perfect for leading the lions back to the warehouse and off the beach into the cooler months. >put those shades away son we going inside<. the energetic pacers of elon are complemented by a deeper excursion, a superb exercise one remix that takes the original and works it into a pulsing main floor late night jam.

so we went predominanlty stateside for our last outing, and decided to bring things back home this time. hoya003 is a strictly uk affair. opening up on the a-side is one of rudest producers and djs the uk has going for it. this aint a comment on her manners though, they are as impeccable as her production. after ikonika sent us a zip of some hoya potentials, we just knew >fleas< had to be the one featured on this 12 inch. a more sinister, rolling, emotional jam, it still packs as much as punch as ikonikas dj sets. kicking off the b-side is the homie om unit. now, this guy � this guy. are there any superlatives left to desribe his sonic masterpieces that have rocked too many dancefloors and had as many producers scratching their heads and re-assessing their mix-downs? an instant favourite, >fibonnaci 10< was one of the earliest cuts lined up for a release and when you listen you will see why. this guy. seriously. bringing things to a close, we hand over to one of our favourites from the flourishing cardiff scene. why doesnt monky have more music out? is one of those questions that has been asked too many times for our liking. so much so, we may have to take it upon ourselves to change that. but, for now, just enjoy >hipster<. a killer synth-laden nod to early ukg, but looking forward as opposed to sideways. enjoy.

we met fred ventura in 2006 over emails sent to italians do it better headquarters. he was one of the first people from europe to start writing the label prior to after darks release. it took us a few months to realize that this was fred ventura, the cult italo legend from milan. like a true gentleman, he had never bothered to mention it. since the early 1980s fred ventura has released numerous singles in europe & toured the world extensively as a solo artist. last year, johnny was in bologna on tour with desire & fred came out to the show to drink champagne & bring us some copies of the reissued tapes of fred�s early post punk group state of art. the lightbulb lit up & we asked him if he had any home recordings of his solo work. months later, he sent us 83 tracks of cassette recordings between 1982 & 1987. they had been sitting upstairs in a dusty box at his parents house in italy for the last 25 years. these tracks have only been heard by a handful of his closest friends. we were completely floored & honored! finding a beautiful treasure completely untouched & preserved is so rare. the songs are raw & honest written by a romantic with a love for an anthemic chorus & a drum machine running through his veins. think early minimal depeche mode with an italian heart. ornew order covering madonna produced moroder. yes, its that good. here we have the first official italians do it better release of these songs on a 4 song 12inch ep. this vinyl only release is a teaser for the >dont give up< 18 track lp out in a couple of months. so in the meantime, slip on those gucci loafers, rev up the alfa romeo and head down to the discotheque because life is too short

somewhere between center parcs in nottingham and the white sandy perfection of formentera reside two men dedicated to the art of horizontal dancing. their mums call them ampo and timm (funny names, those notts lads), though we know them by their collective name of coyote. in their minds eye, it is still 1986 and there are leathery looking germans with alarming posing pouches dancing to simply red records on the shimmering terrace at ku club while down the road alfredo is building his legendary reputation at amnesia. apart from the clued-up few, most of the brits are billeted in san antonio where the beers are cheap and the sunburn is plentiful. coyotes music, despite being produced in the east midlands conjures up a world of sun, sea and 80s glamour, while still sounding very much like today.

their debut three tracker ep has a theme running through it.. yup, its all about sides. first up is a riff you may well know from trevor horn and fgth. they take the tribe groove, slow it down and strip the groove back. using just the riff from the famous 80s monster hit they cunningly carve out >two sides< as their sultry opener. next up >by my side< enlists the help of the handily associated brass section. shuffling grooves, stabby horns and muted picked guitar are the order of the day. its a perfect one for those early dj-set appetizing sections. to round things off we tone it down even further with the beautiful >by my side<. subtle tones, lazy keys and a smouldering groove. when the keys kick in during the last minute its a glorius and sublime treat. stay tuned for more sides.
