after making a promising start with their first installment, disco pocho return with a second round of expertly selected, sliced and segued groovers from the parties of yesteryear. javi frias is the cat on the buttons this time around, taking two loose and limber disco funk burners and giving them just the right subtle touch to set the place alight. its a shame has an easy tempo, but there s more than enough heat embedded in the looped up slices frias gets busy with it s a dense, rugged and rock-tinged sound that should please brass construction fans. on the flip, you got what i need turns things up with a powerful, diva-led gem that s heavy on the one, just like it should be.

after the release on french label basse resolution and after a couple of years since his last ep on bosconi, having released with the -under the line- track one of the highlights of our latest 10 years compilation and as bss together with his mates fabio della torre and mass prod, rufus is back on bosconi with a new four tracker record which goes on a new direction compared to the past music he did. -ritual chants- was mainly recorded in the abandoned industrial area of milan called bovisa and probably for this reason the release sounds all around a bit sci fi, cinematic and especially gothic. all begins with the raw techno jam of -fast rituals- where structured mellow and dreamy synth lines combine with the dusty, aggressive and driving rhythmical transportation of its drum section. fast rituals is one of those electronic pieces which tells you a story from the beginning till the end, so please pay attention to it. -sapere sparare- looks calmer but actually has the more mental and psychotic feeling of the whole record, driven by an intoxicating and fat bass line, rough jazzy beats and a lot of twisted out fm synths goodness whose times are punctuated twice by the warning female vocal theme of the track. -last shot #5- instead is a jacked out, hypnotic and darker broken house track dense of pumping low ends and subtle but glorious synth riffs properly made for the late hours and totally in the vein of a baby ford - minimal man production.-tenebre- closes up the ep with its horror movie atmosphere, drilling drones here and there, big bouncy bass lines, reverberated snares, drama strings and a dominant sinister melody which slightly reminds of some old dbx track.

the long awaited first release of stavroz on denature records has arrived! this 5-track ep starts with -zorrow-. this track sounds like an invitation to wander and get lost in the jungle. by the second track, perron 11 the tempo gets more vigorous opening the way to the main track kasambila and its enchanting ethnic vibes, on the other side of the ep, xs pls (pronounce it extra small please) has this unique instrumental groove that four-piece band masters so well. the ep ends with the title it was all a ruse , a melancholic ballad through mystical lands.

instincts just a feeling is the pure embodiment of an early 90s detroit techno record. originally released in 1992 on instincts decisive record , not many copies managed to get outside of the city of detroit. within the melodic strings, 808s, and loosely swung samples - you can feel the spirit of these early days and of this young producer finding his sound. meticulously remastered by josh bonati from the master tapes for this 2018 issue.

finally realized, here s one that was long on the dkr wish list. among the very finest moments from both artists, these brilliant interpolations of curtis classics have been unavailable too long. a mesmerizing rhythm adorned with the lovely sounds of hand drums, melodica and flute, mixed and dubbed to perfection by king tubby himself. this 12inch is a 6 track ep, with all four cuts as originally released on two separate 45s, plus two unreleased mixes straight off the original tapes. we like to think tubbs favored these cuts, as so many mixes were done! the dub titled super cool is, in our humble opinion, one of tubby s top 10 extant mixes. full disclosure, all tracks except super cool pt. 2 come from the original jamaican mastertapes. we suspect the pt. 2 mix was lost somewhere in nyc, but don t let that trouble you, this one should please all who have ears.

as one of the most prolific hip hop producers of all time madlib collaborated with different artists and recorded own songs under different pseudonyms. during his outstanding year 2003 he released the crown on his work, the remix album shades of blue. the album untinted contains the source material for the project and is a fantastic intro to compare all the material from both recordings. it s a great dose of jazz in which madlib focuses on the soul and jazz stuff he used for the recordings. with songs by among others herbie hancock, horace silver and donald byrd the 12-track album gives you an indication of the way madlib created his pieces. pressing on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.
