joe morgans stop them is killer late 70s militant roots, self-produced and originally released on his own jomor music house label (under the name billy joe morgan) in nyc. awesome vocal, majestic horns, heavy rhythm, a shining example of the brilliance of late 70s roots reggae and how perfectly suited the style was for the extended mix 12inch single discomix format. we ve added something special for this reissue (now on joe s main imprint fish tea). not only do we have the original 12inch replicated in full, but also an awesome and previously unreleased late 80s digital recut of the tune entitled warrior. unfortunately a dub version for this cut was never mixed, but we are grateful to have uncovered another gem from mr. morgan, one of the crucially under recorded and underrated artists of his time.

on his sixth album, the arc of tension, the berlin based dj, label owner and producer oliver koletzki yet again presents his remarkable vision of contemporary electronic music, while he assumes the role of a storyteller. the arc of tension speaks to its listener as a singular, self contained work, which communicates by way of its natural flow and arc of suspense. the latter is mirrored not only in the multifarious narrative of the actual album, but can also be understood as evidence for its creators long musical history. while koletzki focussed on a diverse range of vocal collaborations on his previous long players, he now moves on to a different form of storytelling, rooted in the quiet confidence of a veteran musician, as well as the hectic lifestyle of a globally in demand dj.

this is joels second appearance on kanzleramt after his very much loved solo 12inch reminder in 2006. its also not the first release of the two, as last years drumcode limited release slight munch shows. joel and heiko have been friends for over a decade. the depth of that connection is reflected in rooter as much of this release was designed and realised right at the kitchen table over breakfast or with a good wine while cooking dinner. more parts of those sessions will be following on parabel later this year.

following on from the very robust debut of his own label failsafe, juxta position deviates back to the more melancholic aesthetic with which he initially made his mark back in 2013 on mistress recordings. drawing palpable influence from ambient electronica like boards of canada, he then reframes the aesthetic, with the help of rhythmic anchoring, on the 12 minute opening opus eureka. however, not to disappoint lovers of the slightly harder, more uptempo, electronic beat, the flip then dishes up two significantly more pressurised techno pieces, the former made in belgrade more linear, the latter reimagined more flamboyant.

!! 2018 repress !! flying high after their successful watergate 22 compilation, catz n dogz return to deliver eight exclusive tracks from their mix via two eps showcasing their expert ability to navigate a multitude of different styles. ep 1 commences with catz n dogz original fire burning when we are, a tune that sees them flying solo to create a stunning journey that lands somewhere sonically between carl craig and henrik schwarz where infectious drums reinforce an ensemble of dramatic harmonies tangling with euphoric melodies. afterglow follows suit with an attitude infused vocal from shaun j. wright laid over a trek into a world where old school vibes meet a new school plan of attack resulting in an absolute floor filler perfect for any time. rounding out the ep are remixes from two of the best: prosumer and sebo k. prosumer steps up first to rework fire burning when we ar’ and creates a massive tune with the signature prosumer touch, evident in the timelessness and maturity of the reimagining. sebo k in turn hands over a jackin remake of afterglow by staying true to the original by keeping everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.

portable sunsets is one of the monikers of peter segerstrom: a producer based in brooklyn, us. he previously released his full-length album bless on atomnation, an lp as surfing on 1080p and another portable sunsets lp on deadelus magical property label. order is the follow up of these records and is a dreamy, somewhat lo-fi experimental techno lp. combined with an ancient ambient undertone, ‘order’ is not loosing its club ready vibe. this record floats somewhere between laid-back warehouse techno and the electronica genre - very much representing a unique style: peter often uses his own voice in his productions, programmed through self-created synths in max/msp. vocals have become textures and are used as a synth, pad or soundscape. the combination of genres makes order a perfect record to dream away on at home, as well as to dance to in clubs.

the mark that the late producer j dilla left upon hip-hop during the 90s and early-to-mid 00s is undeniable. his work with de la soul, busta rhymes, the pharcyde, and of course slum village long been cemented his prominence in the annals of hip-hop history. of the many words one can use to describe j dillaãs legacy, one thatãs not used enough is prolific. dilla made beats constantly. so new dilla compositions are still being discovered. one of the places where those works are still being unearthed is the archives of the neãastra music group, who proudly present here 8 dilla tracks previously unissued on vinyl. dillaãs legacy continues to be shared and celebrated by todayãs hip-hop audience ¹ with help from the tireless efforts of ne astra.

what? unit 2, the classic mad mike production for the seminal detroit house label happy records (a subdivision to underground resistance, distributed by submerge) remixed some decades later? blasphemy, you might cry, a sacrilege, others might say, discogs police sirens everywhere. whatever the verdict, approved and sanctioned by the copyright holder himself, here it comes again and again. begotten during a kink live set, successfully identified by the running back ceo, extracted and road tested as a phantasmal endorphin-producing staple in his dj sets, later released as a limited, stamped white label and now properly issued by popular demand. people whose life is not a big room or a rave in a car park, will find a tamer, but nonetheless heartfelt remix by rome’s dynamic duo tiger & woods on the flip. deep doesn’t always rhyme with sleep.

the fourth release on spazio records is indeed a very special one. it’s the first release from behrang mohammadi - who also is one of the label bosses. coming from the punk/noise scene playing in various bands, he found his true calling in the underground electronic community of southern sweden.
the ep consists of two minimalistic club weapons, each one of it’s own kind. it’s a groovey affair with the typical elements of behrangs own djing: it’s not too much, not too little - always full of passion.

it might not always be obvious, but music as escapism can serve as a radical social statement. what some may see as daydreaming or imagination of impossible realities, can constitute a sort of revolution of thought, the seed of a more human and sentient worldview. although on a first listen, high-level basis, it may seem as if the music contained in informa’s 10th release is a series of psychedelic, dystopian and otherworldly tools for escape, it might actually be a proposition for improvement, a route to self-discovery, a reflection on the true nature of our surroundings. although at no point in this release such high concepts are made explicit, there is a consistency in vision and methods present in the art created by the peers that label founder and owner deepbass has selected for this very special, celebratory release. encapsulating the product of eight minds, eight visions, in a common concept for evolution in unity.
