NORTH SCAPES - INCL. PETER SCHUMANN RMX
12 Inch
08.04.19
the fifth release from the bunte kuh label is another winner: it comes from bardia salour and features three fresh originals with a remix from peter schumann. it s also set to be available on vinyl release too. salour is a german artist who runs his own esteemed events in hamburg and has played all over europe from watergate in berlin to culture box in copenhagen. his dub infused style is utterly distinctive and these new cuts prove that once more. north scapes opens up with a molten, acid tinged bassline. as it grows more wild there are icy hi hat loops layered in with some big piano chords to finish it in style and mean the floor will really go wild. liquid lava is more direct, with hard hitting techno kicks and deft synth sounds colouring in the grooves. then comes the excellent urban signals, a dramatic, dubbier cut with cavernous bottom ends and subtle, supple synths layering in warmth and atmosphere. last of all, peter schumann s lsd25 restyle of north scapes pairs it back to a warm, bubbly warm up house tune that will get you moving with its sonar blips and nice, deep cut and churning drums. all four of these tracks are fresh and classy efforts sure to make their mark.

producer : nu guinea, .... tartelet records and the vinyl factory join forces for a release showcasing remixes from two prominent americans and a great dane. ge-ology and byron the aquarius of sound signature and tartelet veteran james braun deliver three outstanding remixes of wayne snow s feel good tune nothing wrong taken from his debut album freedom tv . the original version, produced by naples-based duo nu guinea, is an irresistible up-tempo funk tune that has been getting serious spins from some of the most respected selectors in the game. ge-ology s in-reverse-reflip mix is a trippy ten-minute journey through layered in-reverse melodies and subtle acid carried by a tight, stripped-back groove. the result is a hypnotic gem that sits comfortably in any late night set. byron the aquarius slows it down for his live mix adding a playful bassline, live drums, rhodes and synth almost reminiscent of kool & the gang s 1974 hit summer madness . tartelet mainstay james braun steps back into the limelight after years of silence with a highly effective club mix, combining his signature low-slung house grooves with wayne s backing vocal, turning it into something that is both pumping and exotic.
a fireball to accelerate our post-winter thawing. spanish producer pepes first foray on lph. it starts off unassumingly, with a bright, airy beach boogie thats all gentle drums and trebly synth figurations, but it quickly turns its eye to the strobe-lit nightclub, first with delusions of grandeur, an angular hypnosis of syncopated rhythms, then with aerial, a 130 bpm blitz with an epic build and an equally dramatic breakdown. capping it off is 50 am, which, as the name indicates, is a woozy shuffle thatll help you land the plane nice and easy.

slow things down into a full balearic groove with this latest ep on dekmantel by the dutch production duo. barely breaking a sweat over 100bpm, these smooth sunset synth rhythms, full of muted 80s italo funk, and breezy drum machines, syncopated with the warm, exotic blend of retro keys and ambience, set the eps five tracks coastal, vibrant dynamic.

todd osborn returns to spectral sound in his osborne guise with his first release on on the label since 2013 s hold up (feat. joe goddard). fools finds osborn in his best self, as a shapeshifter bringing together strands of various genres. the title track is a lesson in house reduction, while -different- is a chunk of bassline-led techno. on the b-side, -back whenever- kicks off in proto-idm electro form, all melody and light, and -integrate- slows it down to a walking pace for a dash of synth funk.

cutting edge electronics with the dark, sweaty and serious dance floor in mind.
from the outset w1b0 s mission to carve out his own sound in this era of cut and paste and production shortcuts has led to recognition by genre champions such as rolf mulder and dave clarke, indeed his first formal appearance on physical media was as part of dave clarke’s seminal fabric 60 cd.
the original mix of main squeeze is an electro epic, straight to business with a growling bass line sitting beneath room filling drums combining to lay foundation for a soaring synth invasion. the four remixes see four artists who represent the cream of talent in the many shades of the authentic modern electro genre transforming main squeeze into new dance floor destroying shapes. ranging from borderline industrial breaks from simplicity is beauty to the punchy experimentation of boris divider and from the unmistakeable raw sound and energy of the exaltics to the flawless dark electronics of bs-1.
supported by dave clarke, igloo magazine, technobass.net and more.

ever-impressing uk talent james dexter makes a return to bondage-music this december as he drops his latest three track ep lets go back. 2018 has been a substantial year for london based dj and producer james dexter, with appearances at the likes of fabric (london), claire (amsterdam) and sash (sydney) and releases on little helpers, gruuv, deeperfect and his own inermu imprint in the past 12 months alone. with the new year in sight, here we find three new fresh productions in the form of his lets go back ep, marking a return to bondage music in the process following his recent remix of frinks sofisticate on the imprint. title cut lets go back opens proceedings as dexter reveals an up-front, bumping cut armed with crunchy drum licks, infectious vocal samples and rich, airy chords, before simple things utlises further rich and soulful vocals alongside crisp skipping hats and resonant kicks to guide the production through seven minutes of groove driven house music. last up, dexters roll through pairs refined, stripped back organic percussion arrangements with wandering synth lines and vocal coos to wrap up the ep in fine fashion.
authors of the 4th release of the mosaique label are the project savage ground, known for its works on lux rec, pinkman broken dreams and enfant terrible. the project hides two people, daniele cosmo (owner of lux rec) and cco (who s already participated in the first v/a universe). in not is a mixture of synth wave, analog distortion, experimental dance electronic music and vocals. the ep contains 4 tracks that divided the two sides of the plate into two different moods. this is a vinyl release without digital sales and repress. limited edition, vinyl only, a&b sides 33rpm.

this release is composed by a solid techno original mix and a brilliant remix produced by german maestro tobias. in the seventh ep to come out on his own imprint, labelhead dimi angelis serves up four tracks, each distinctively angls: bare and unassuming music. opening track “live chat events” leaves little space for actual conversation and immediately hits home with some thorough techno that reminisces of a bygone rave era which refuses to be forgotten. follow-up “index” continues that feel but switches things up by delving off the deep, ever so slightly distorted synth end. on the flipside angelis allows subtle percussion movements to do the talking in “lotus”. proper and powerful on its own, equally useful as a tool. “cosmodrome” closes down #007 and is the most introvert of the four with a unique, submerged sounding pattern that gradually builds and falls. an ep that will fit and improve any collection.

MARINA GARDEN (MINI LP)

12.11.18
utopia cloak arrives on film with six track ep, marina gardens. utilising both electronic & acoustic components, the british producer crafts hazy, dynamic electronica with a decidedly emotive bent. the music explores a curious production aesthetic - at once half sunk and at the same time gloriously crisp and direct. caustic drum machine hits underpin the majority of the work, compete with polyrhythmic rolls & glitches, while softly warping synth lines occupy the majority of the remaining sonic space. rather than working explicitly with nostalgia, utopia cloak makes more subtle references to the classic sounds of yore - riffing on downtempo & idm with gentle and considered nuance, eking out arcane hooks & rich melodies with a pleasing focus on compositional structure & songcraft. contrast is the key here, though - and utopia cloak works hard to find the balance between metallic per-cussion strikes and wide-angle instrumental elements, avoiding chaos in favour of a lush, rewarding lis-tening experience.

based in brno, czech republic - nona records is a multi-faceted party collective who provide a safe space for sound artists, producers, promoters and anybody in between. with operations that include a synth company called bastl instruments and a party venue called herna - they re no strangers to uniting artists and curating rich, monochromatic music primed for clued-up dancefloors.
with previous releases from omsk information & dr. walker, patricia and abayomi amongst others, the 20th release in their catalogue comes from julia who makes his debut on the label. originally from the us, now based in prague, julia honed his flair for live-improvised, hardware techno in warehouse parties and after hour events. it is this approach he adopts across his 4-track ep for nona.
free-flowing and built from stoney drums, thick atmospherics and hallucinogenic fx - “remnants” renders 4 dystopian landscapes that carry sufficient power to sit them comfortably in cold, industrial spaces.
CLICHES PRINCIPLE (EP + MP3)
12 Inch
01.11.18
“cliché’s principle” exhibits the two-sided aura of an artist long familiar with the cultivation of diy ethos: an effortless expulsion of playful immediacy and the unfolding of a musician well versed in unpretentious composition. lucy cliché’s five track ep for fleisch records is a jacking romp through 120-125bpm electro/new-beat, swooning through downcast ambience, lobotomised vocal samples and sweat-drenched hardware rhythms.
lucy’s musical oeuvre piles high, as a figure in the sydney underground for the past 15 years she has always explored sounds that playfully antagonize the status-quo, the dysfunctional no-wave approach of her band naked on the vague and the manipulated tape ambience of half high echo throughout cliché’s principle in the form of chorus buzzed synth chords, abstract drones and ethereal evocation. while there is the strong presence of a live veteran at work behind the machines, cliché’s principle holds five tracks produced purely with the intention of paving the dance-floor.
