second instalment by music mania reprise gives belgian 80s synth classic crocodile tears a new life. music mania is proud to present the next instalment in their reprise series. following the highly sought after classic elle et moi (mmr001), comes the blissful belgian synth pop anthem ‘crocodile tears’ (mmr002). the track was one of the first singles of kuruki, the minimal wave project spearheaded by ghent-based musician gerry d haeyer and alain bureau (sally joy). in an age of electronic sequenced experimentation, the band managed to find a distinctive sound that easily puts them between the likes of telex. the original ep such a liar was released in 1981 and clearly echoes the new wave of its time. the scenes described by vocalist sally joy as well as the melancholic keys of the main track crocodile tears breathe tristesse. nevertheless, it has a playful sound full of catchy synths. a dualism between such beauty and melancholy: this track was undeniably made in belgium in the eighties, but should also appeal to lovers of italo disco. be aware: for their second reprise music mania managed to include an exclusive instrumental version of this belgitude. even more synths for your listening pleasure.

junction - a six track ep produced entirely by samrai & platt - features vocalists from jamaica, ireland & the uk and rounds off an excellent 12 months for the label & crew whove toured across north america, mexico and europe in 2017. the set kicks off with st favourite alexx a-game (originally voiced at his studio in kingston in 2016) urging listeners to free up their mind and souls and let the good times take control. it sets the tone for upcoming jamaican talent blvk h3ro to step up on the soulful party number cant wait (recorded at equiknoxx’s studios in vineyard town in 2016), which has been a staple in swing ting sets over the last 18 months. slowing the pace is addiction, a link up with irish artist and frequent murlo collaborator gemma dunleavy who lays down an impressive vocal over the skittering drums, muted guitar and glistening keys. the listen is interrupted momentarily for an interlude from gavsborg whose moving voicemail is accompanied by a poignant piano line from jp aka without understanding. one for the clubs turn it up features equiknoxxs shanique marie riding a stripped funky-esque riddim with ease. fittingly the set closes with contagious which finds two of manchester’s finest vocalists fox & tyler daley searching for an escape from the reality of our turbulent times over a refined yet sparkling production. the 12inch vinyl will be limited to 200 copies

polytechnic youth enter the fray once again, continuing an already productive year (these new 45s are 4/5/6th releases in 2018 already!) with a trio of quite brilliant yet totally different 45s.
alpár aka hungarian bálint zalkai, is the co-founder of farbwechsel, the budapest based record label, and his own recordings of electronic compositions (often built upon random looping sequencers in a minimalist style) are key to the label’s release output thus far. his goal as he sees it is to “catch a random pattern, loop it and build up a piece with that randomly pulsing theme. just let to flow the voltages and sound waves and try not to disturb them or change their basic behaviours”.
the two tracks here were recorded with this approach very much in mind. the atmosphere of “mejiro” is “not unlike a bird observation. attempting to find the right spot, getting closer and closer to the bird, which almost controls you and your movements as you attempt to near it”. whereas “wakayama” is a more direct piece, and maybe the most melodic song alpár ever recorded. while “mejiro” is a woozy, cautious piece, “wakayama is like a tropical fruit or the ume, (the japanese apricot), colourful and full of flavour yet -with thanks to- the slowly humming theme in the background, an element of sourness grips you at the back of your tongue as it ends!

solar phenomena welcomes singular rhythm master stl for a new ep that offers four fantastic tracks of dubby house. it is the label’s fourth release and finds the something label boss in a typically inventive mood.
first track spy vs spy opens things with shuffling drum loops and eerie synth details that hypnotises over seven minutes. atomsmasha has wooden hits and rough shakers peppering a soft, imperfect groove as awkward chords bring an unhinged edge to the mix. on the flip, summer breeze & brotherhood has loose keys doing an off kilter dance over stl’s trademark low-key drums where freebird zones you out with long held chords and detuned keys as cloudy, dusty kicks bring a barely-there groove deep down low. you know what to get from stl by now, but at the same time you can never get enough.

so, after a little break we’re back with a new release. this time we’re joined by the multi-talented production powerhouse that is swarm intelligence (aka simon hayes). landing heavy with four bruising techno cuts that each find their own unique way of taking your head off, ear017 is a bumpy journey through darker club flavours. ‘flatlands’ opens things up, reminiscent of the type of marching, granite-heavy brum techno of old – this is minimal in construction but maximum in its impact. move forward to ‘ground up’ where demonic, dissonant keys take the lead above a rattling midrange that sounds like a corrugated roof ready to fly off. opting for cleaner, elastic drum patterns on ‘tingla’, hayes swaps tense for dense, with a loud take on steppy techno, that’ll please fans of some of blawan’s earlier work. ‘skitz’ starts out an a more dub tip with a wailing, paranoia inducing hook and snaking rhythms, eventually joined by more hard-hitting broken kicks, leading us comfortably into oblivion.

brand new glastonbury production duo speakman sound team up with frankie forman for the palliative psychedelic dance stylings of latest single warm. warm follows the breakneck success of debut single in flight which became a top viral track on spotify while being touted by key tastemakers including 6music’s lauren laverne, radio x’s john kennedy, soho radio’s eddie temple morris and radio 1’s huw stephens, monki and phil taggart. the latter commendations led to the brothers being offered a slot on the bbc introducing stage at glastonbury for a ram-packed homecoming. brothers todd and guy, the duo behind speakman sound, spent their childhood in the glastonbury area immersed in music through their father, a guitarist in psych-rock scene including bands such as hawkwind. growing into adolescence against a backdrop of rave culture in somerset shaped the psychedelic tinged future bass sound they create in their studio in north london today. warm is a sonic embrace, a trip into the uterine comforts of music. a rolling kick drum structures it, ostensibly four-on-the-floor, but with syncopated fibrillations, the sound of a heart skipping a beat. with frankie forman’s brilliant, mantra-like vocal and tobie tripp’s sweeping strings, warm reminds us of the comfort we find in music. enveloping in its beauty, it’s the latest majestic entry into speakman sound’s unique and beatific body of work. that the speakman brothers are producers in their own right should come as no surprise. having received a start-up grant for a studio in cricklewood, they have built an artistic hub from scratch and are surrounded by a creative coterie of young musicians and talented artists practicing across film and music in north london where they hold regular late-night jams and parties.

without new jersey native kerri ‘kaoz’ chandler, house—specifically deep house—would sound very different. ever since his teens he has been making and playing music with a unique sense of soul, jazz and deepness. from majors like atlantic, king street sounds and nervous via his own madhouse, his releases are never short of genre-defining classics that have spawned a thousand copycats. affectionately referred to as the stevie wonder of house, kerri’s dj sets take him all over the world and often find him playing live keys next to his informed selections. he’s meticulous about sound, too, which means that no-ones kicks hit quite like kerri’s. his instantly classic and timeless dj-kicks mix, though, takes him out of the club and through a world of influences and inspiration.

swat s third release & detroit is in the house ! there are times in which you can clearly mark a producer s evolution. when they stop inching towards growth and make a bold statement of change in capability and vision. such is the case with this ep from detroit-based disco guru, pontchartrain. after a few years of steadily pushing out some significant pieces of work that have increasingly straddled the line between originals and edits, and nearly a decade of studio experience, his long overdue official house music debutante has arrived. featuring detroit local soul artist, coko buttafli laying down some blistering vocals with a clearly positive house music message, on top of live percussion and keys, and bold analog drum rhythms, pontch has created a solid diva-house gem. the sneaky festival-ready banger, loose , performed, mixed, and overdubbed live, provides some fantastic contrast and versatility to the release. a mr. g-esque remix by dj phenom just alexander and the musical journey of topher horn s evolving and deep version on the flipside make this a well rounded record that will undoubtedly stay in your bag for a good long while, and will find its way back in for years to come.

unknown mobile has quietly carved out a place for himself in the ever-evolving vancouver beat camp among contemporaries like mood hut, 1080p and project pablo. last years no motion 12 on a/s/l singles club was levi bruces dreamy introduction to most, and 2017 finds him stretching out a bit to further expand his palate of rhythms and textures across the five track mixed use ep for young adults. four sided pebble is a breezy bouncer woven with tickled keys, raw bass and a seamlessly organic live feel throughout. shoreline dub pulses in stuttered syncopation, but keeps its sights set on the dusk dusted horizon with delayed rhodes chords and ocean swells. country side is a total mind-melt, a pastoral graze through mazes of circuit board crop circles. the juggler churns a buttery 4/4 beat in an echo chamber, while proteus 216 dims the lights on its way out to an interstellar communications convention.

this june session victim return to delusions of grandeur imprint with their third studio album.listen to your heartis the result of a year of cross-continental scripting, started in their hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in san francisco’s room g studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 lpsee you when you get there. here we present the first of three lp samplers containing four tracks each, cut nice and loud for the vinyl crew. bring it back gets things rolling with session victim’s trademark live drum breaks, looped up pads and hooky vocal samples. only good vibes here, with uplifting keys bringing a warm and soulful edge whilst shimmering juno notes add a floaty element to get lost in. next up we have if we can make it here, the title being something of an in-joke with the boys when they find themselves in the more remote or far-flung corners of the world performing their music to an appreciating crowd. the track is based around a simple yet beautiful 4-bar chord progression repeating throughout and shows svm in a playful and jazzy mood, managing to include soloing flute and marching snare drum rhythms without as much of a flinch!moons and flowers is up next, another sublime slice of hazy house music with a wonderful organic and live sound palette. echoing rhodes licks join dubby synth fx, adding waves of colour whilst the gentle vocal provides the icing on the space-cake. lastly we have the hatch, which winds things down somewhat for a lovely, somewhat stoned interlude track which is over all too soon. an impeccable demonstration of retro-inspired yet forward thinking house,listen to your heartsees session victim at the top of their game.

already heavy hitters on the house music scene since their first releases back in 2012, waze & odyssey continue to carve out club burners with such ease, and their first release of 2017 finds a suitably fitting home on edible. the duo of firas waez and serge santiago have seemingly not put one step wrong in their ascendency within the house music circuit. be it releases for labels like wolf music, elrow or their own w&o street tracks, or remixes for the likes of disclosure, totally enormous extinct dinosaur and metronomy, w&o have found that knack of delivering sure fire winners time after time. already a staple in label boss eats everything’s dj sets, ‘down with tha’ has all the hallmarks of a bona fide club classic, if the hyperactive drums and looping vocal refrain doesn’t draw you in enough, then the downright funky bass lick that prominently packs a punch really provides the killer hook. the, quite frankly, face melting breakdown surely seals the deal, and we are anticipating this cut to ring out loud across dancefloors over the coming weeks and months. competently propping up the release, ‘seizure’ goes on a spacey, bongo odyssey (geddit?), serving up a rolling, dubby drum workout that culminates in a rather impressive snare roll breakdown that’ll have you frothing at the mouth. snatches of female vox and whistles are dotted around the galloping jungle drums, whilst the elevating key chimes provide the perfect musical lift. another slice of completely freshhouse music from w&o!

we ve all been there, spending endless hours searching, listening, skipping thru tracks and trying to find at least one good one. no more. we ve made it easy for you... tune is all about that one track, the track that will bring the heat. no remixes, radio edits or excess dubs. it s all very simple, one track, one really awesome tune. that s all. the plot thickens, who is theo walbeck?? but maybe it s not that important, after all the music is the key figure and speaks for itself. this is theo s follow up to freek tool which was one of disclosures most played tracks in 2016 and goes down a similar path. in our humble opinion this is an even stronger track and something that is just waiting to get some heavy isolator action. someone 2night got that dark and vintage warehouse feel mixed up with some soulful cut up vocals and lush strings that is just perfect to drop at peak hour. those rumbling drums will cause some serious damage...believe dat!

limited repress due to high demand on requests. eating records was born in the brussels underground scene, inspired by the idea of synthesizing two different horizons to get a beautiful concept. in the beginning it was simply the need to go back to roots and try to connect with the present and future, but eventually it ended up with a modern groovy label. the first release of the label was not that easy to find. the eclectic worlds of the two members did not really help them. but that was until they found jr from dallas - a talented dj producer from lille, owner of gourmand music recording - maybe food is the key... who knows ? jr has always been a forward-moving artist, but his music cannot - and should not - be mapped linearly. after releasing on labels as farris wheel recordings and greenhouse recordings, he had nowhere to go but backward for his new ep on eating records to its 90 old school beats and hypnotizing basses. phonical deep is gorgeous and evocative all the same. technival is stylish enough, and it is as restlessly creative as you would expect. it is followed by the hypnotic and beautiful remix of jay bliss of phonical deep - the eps final track. the fact is, jay bliss has managed to create something so refreshingly unique that trying to categorize and label his remix is rather dubious. he transformed the original melodic part to a blissful pad embellished with a repetitive rhythm spiced with tiny subtle details. it is easier to see this remix as the backbone of electronic music - simple and repetitive but never boring.

cottam s ruff draft label makes a logical move and turns to a long-serving champion of gritty, soul-powered house jams from the tough side. dj nature may have made his name many moons ago, but he proves to be as relevant as ever on this killer two-track release. -alfred- is a tightly wound box jam that manages to maintain tension throughout without needing to pander to the release part of the process, sounding all the more exciting for it. -blood on your hands- meanwhile finds nature heading into the scuffed, soul-sampling territory he s most at home in, and the ensuing rumble of off-key funk is impossible to refute.

for those of you wondering what adesse versions was doing at our heist boiler room this summer in london, the answer is here. the “push it along” ep for heist is adesse versions first appearance on our label and features 4 stunningly raw and warm originals, and an amazing remix by new york’s ambassador of funk: ge-ology, together with multi-instrumentalist marc de clive-lowe on keys. after having released numerous records for jackmaster’s numbers, local talk and toy tonics, we’re happy to welcome adesse versions to the heist family. when he sent us his demo’s we had the tough job to choose the right tracks, cause there were just too many. the selection on the “push it along ep” features what we feel are his purest work up to date. with only a small amount of elements, he manages to create such a big and warm sound, finding a great balance between gritty percussion, rich analog synths and funky sampling work.

serious time is joane skylers forth novel following orz and the skyler&kinlaw lp on reckno and ssssssssss on boomkat editions. serious time births you into a tangerine tinted-sci fi like inauguration of gently pulsating, rising and falling synths, you find yourself stumbling out of bed after a night on the alcoholic blue milk, opening your space blinds to multiple suns rising over some big pyramid building strewn in lights and a couple of flying cars knocking about the sky which is foggy probably. load up all your favourite cubase (circa 1998) plug ins and run through them at a progressive velocity, tapping the ^ key repeatedly, until you reach enlightenment.

audiothentica is back in the game after two years of recovering. with a techy and special 4-track ep by lukas&merlin, a dj-fusion outta gelnhausen, near frankfurt. they started at the age of 17 in the attic of an abandoned neighboring house, trying out ableton and midi-keyboards. now they find there output on audiothentica with remixes by sven kerkhoff and frank leicher, which we not have to appoint more. we are very happy about that release and waive the description. all we have to say is that you ll find a wide range of electronic music broaded an intro-, warm-up-, peaktime- and afterhour-track. just have a listen, hope you enjoy.

it’s not every day you find a keyboard player with chops like john camp. plucked from the same minneapolis jazz vine that grew such deliciously ripened talents as no regular play s greg paulus and aaron james (gregory porter band), we met camp for the first time at the marcy hotel. initially adding his signature touch to other’s crew love records and last year dropping an incredi- ble ep on have a killer time, the mistral ep marks his first official crew love release!

kicking things off on the a side is herbie s jam , an effortlessly cool house edit of the legendary jazz pioneer that features an infectious piano loop, live drums and a funky bassline which we re sure is going to become a staple at day time parties and sunset sets this summer. there s also an incredibly smooth and soulful trumpet sample to complete the jam and tie everything together. on the flip you ll find a more up beat and peak time affair called oliver that keeps the same jam session vibe as on the a side, but this time employs sultry organ keys, breezy guitar licks, and a truly groovy saxophone contribution that makes you just want to get up and move. just as with their previous releases, this is a hand stamped, limited, 12- that won t be around for long.

originally released in 1997, this early production from the legendary dutchman gerd has recently enjoyed a revival, the rare wax finding its way back into the sets of raresh, ryan elliott and bass culture label boss d julz, amongst a few happy others. after seeing on a number of occasions the magic effect ‘mass majestic’ could have on the crowd, the catchy hook appealing to all ears, d’julz knew what the next release had to be. with scarce second-hand copies hotly in demand, this secret weapon is about to see a new lease of life via bass culture. reissued in a remastered and slowed down version, ‘mass majestic’ is one of those tracks which stays on your mind long after the party is over ... the haunting keys, the intensity of the synths and the climax of clashing symbols, all driven along by the raw chugging bass-line makes this a peak-time winner. the flip side features ‘to reach’, another track from the original ep. a big room monster of rolling bass and syncopated keys, its old skool charm and brash energy grabs you to full-on, trippy effect. considered a prolific, timeless and highly eclectic producer, ‘mass majestic’ ep indulges in gerd’s blatant ballsy techno side, remaining an extremely effect dj tool 17 years on.

iron curtis delivers his 2nd full 4 track ep for hudd traxx following up the huge stansfield ep in 2010. the opening track care demonstrates ics diversity as a producer as he lays down a killer bassline with melodic keys which will find its way into many big hitters bags. sing along with your friends has deep laid keys and an mcde esk feel to it accompanied by some heavy snares for good measure. flip for the b side and find shouting & screaming, a dark driving track that even spencer kinsey would be proud of.

keeping in line with the trademark birdsmakingmachine sound, comes the fifth release on their self-entitled label, bmm 004. with a more straight-to-the-point approach than its predecessor, the ep starts off on the dance floor, with rumbling bass lines and heavy metallic snares juggling with effects-laden delicacies on the a1s >ahora vengo<. the arrival of >ash but not arthur< on the a2 calms things down bit and takes the listener for a gentle journey through ambient pads and cleverly swinging hi hats, while on the flip, things get a little more bouncy in >oscars critical jack<, which is mostly due to the fact its main ingredient – the solid playful bass line – blends effortlessly with the higher frequency spices, keys, strings and rhythmic parts. the end credits roll down with >bonfume<, another relatively smooth yet jacking swinger that could either be used to kick it up a notch in a warm-up set or be danced to while finding yourself at an afterhour.

in the long line of belgian talent finding a home on wph (think san soda, lemakuhlar, metrobox, locked groove, …) we are pretty sure that kiani & his legion (aka thomas neyens) will claim his rightful place within a couple releases. because just like the other family members kiani has his very own distinct sound. totally kiani and also totally wph. kiani & his legion should have already caught your attention with his free *records & culture* vinyl in wphs v.i.p. series and he was also responsible for *legions of the east* on the recent wph summer special 2013. being a vinyl lover himself it seemed fitting that we release his full e.p. debut on vinyl only (grey coloured & marbled), containing four tracks that will show you the full spectrum of his house music universe. the key words in that universe are melody, breakdowns, surprise and emotion. it is pointless to describe the tracks one by one, simply listen, enjoy and most of all…dance!

the ep starts with peace in the world, an infectious, assertive stomper that hooks you with a simple keyboard riff and vocal sample. the energy doesnt let up on runnin, though that cut is decidedly deeper and smoother. the flip finds montel turning it back up to 11 with ecstasy, a dramatic club anthem, and get down, a funky, elastic burner that closes the 12inch

midnight moves. thats what comes to mind when you listen to cale parks s n1, preferably at an hour long after dusk has settled around you in some beautiful, insomniac city. parks finds – or more aptly, seeks – beauty and grace in ambience and shadows. n1 starts as pure atmosphere – it feels at first like a sort of lovely sonic nothingness slowly taking form – before growing into the darkly lit, gorgeous moodscape it later becomes. a sensual bassline, a pulsing downbeat, a cinematic piano, strains of italo disco, and the sensation of breezing down a lightless road. if you could make sensuous shapes of the night – imagine kneading the dark itself – it might, at the very best, feel like this. the task of remixing parks s original is taken up by french duo paradis, who can otherwise be heard making music on tim sweeney s beats in space label. the paris-based producers shine a brightening light on parks s dusky creation, quickening its pulse and trading in its darkwave undercurrents for enlivening techno and house. theres an element of floating here – a dreaminess in the rhythms, an astral aspect to the keys beaming through the beats. and with the addition of vocals, sung in french – a pop finishing touch on a song that already feels like an earworm – the transformation is complete. this excellent introduction to cale parkss music is also his debut release on the hakt label.
