ernie hawks debut album scorpio man is nearly here. and about to be released during the first quarter of 2018. the way will be paved with a fresh 7 single that lifts the gritty jazz funk of scorpio walk from the album on the a side and pairs it up with the mystic groover message of love. a non-lp track only available on this release.
i cant love you anymore is the first single by hard working soul performer carlton jumel smith recorded with cold diamond & mink. and the man has revealed his middle name just for the occasion. otherwise known simply as carlton j. smith. theres no doubt he has swallowed a large pill of soul since seeing james brown live at the apollo theatre as an 8-year old. smiths timmion debut single sinks him into drum heavy southern flavored deep soul. a style that comes out of him naturally as water from a mountain spring. backing him up on the falsetto parts is pratt. who recently turned some heads with his pratt & moody release lost lost lost on stylart records. and together the two basically nail it. when looking for artists. who just seem to move through time effortlessly with a steady air of confidence. passion and precision. one might pick up the phone and give cjs a call. even though his discography of couple of late 2000s albums and some guest spots in early 90s soulful house 12inches is a bit mysterious. there seems to be not one bit of difficulty to his craft or personality. as a recording artist. i cant love you anymore is a new opening into raw soul territory. and it is just what the world needs today. he laid down an album worth of tracks on his last helsinki visit. and this might be something to look forward to.
TAITU - SOUL-FUELLED STOMPERS FROM 1960S-1970S ETHIOPIA (3X12 LP)
3x12" Vinyl UK19.02.18
ernesto chahoud’s ‘taitu’ is a collection of soul-fuelled stompers straight from the dancefloors of 1970s addis ababa. a breathless journey through the unique ethio sound that bands were forging at the time. the 24-track compilation is the result of the lebanese dj and crate digger’s decadelong love affair with the ‘golden age’ of ethiopian music.

initially released on sonia e. pottinger s highly respected high note records in 1981. sonya spence s sings love lp was relatively overlooked at the time her album came out. sent on her final journey in 2007. the one-woman band leaves us with a legacy of exception. however. time and a small first pressing has made it an object of desire for collectors. deejays and lovers all around the world. and. though it was shamelessly bootlegged throughout history. it is the first that time that this bliss of an lp gets the official reissue treatment on wax. with the love and respect it deserves. beyond classic tracks let the flow on baby. where is the love and the reggae gem fantasy. this 10-tracker abounds with treasures. some of which cannot be found on the internet.
mood to move ep is a six-part musical retrospect into the work of veteran japanese house producer takecha. the little-known artist has been sporadically releasing analogue house on his own gwm imprint since the mid-90s. however trouble maker had only recently discovered his works and were dying to hear more. the music he sent was far too good to remain unheard. so we twisted the little-known maestro’s arm and managed to grab a selection of six unreleased and never before heard cuts for your audio pleasure. created between 1995-2000. these musical gems were left dormant on dat tapes in takechas basement - until now! with classic house being the flavour throughout. the high-quality production and deeply-resonant synth lines of each track leave an imprint that’s hard to forget. if this is your first time hearing takecha you certainly won’t be disappointed.. released on 12 inch vinyl . shrinked wrapped

for the first release of 2018 we welcome harry wolfman to the outplay family! having followed his work for the last couple of years we re very happy to have him deliver this varied 4-tracker. which very well might be some of his best work to date. the a side starts off with hitch . a warm and dusty groover driven by rhodes. a rubbery bassline and a thudding kick. a lovely string piece in the middle of the track slowly builds up to the break for it to return to the head nodding groove soon after. the added percussion gives it a nice lively feel as well. pigs in blankets sets the pace a little slower. but the funk goes on. the track incorporates 80s style samples with some excellent synth and chord work. perfect for a warm up session. starting on the b side harry takes it up a notch with nemoto . which will be a definite stomper for the dance floor. it takes you on a 9 minute journey of rolling bumpy basslines. screaming distortion leads and hypnotising synth work. finally. to ease things off. sts-136 (final call) comes in at a slow 88 bpm pace as a perfect closure to the ep. dreamy pads. piano licks and a calming marimba melody combined with a beat which feels like a warm blanket will make you wander off for a moment

every now and then a release comes along from out of nowhere with little fanfare. no social media or extensive pr campaign enabling those who discover it to simply focus on the music without bias or preconceived ideas which can so often cloud our judgement these days. the hypochondriac ep is one such release. bringing four diverse tracks which veer from the heavier percussive groove and goose-bump inducing rhodes of the title track through to the spaced-out. soul-drenched vocal workout existential. on movement and ghosted we’re treated to deep and tracky shuffled grooves and 90’s inspired nyc deep house with a nod to dopewax and henry street. simply put. this is the kind of record that back in the day would be your secret weapon for many years with all four tracks working their magic in different sets in different situations and places. we hope you enjoy this little slice of house perfec-tion!
the seventh 7-inch in most excellent unlimited’s series of mr. k edits combines a pair of lush midtempo modern soul gems. with both sides textbook candidates for a perfect set-opener. “live in me.” from rufus and chaka khan’s 1979 masterjam lp. was never released as a single. but that didn’t stop it from becoming a fan favorite and warm-up classic for soulful djs. composed and produced by the legendary rod temperton and quincy jones. who were fresh off the completion mj’s off the wall when this was recorded. “live in me” is judiciously extended here by danny krivit without losing any of the graceful magic of the original. philly jazz-funkers pieces of a dream get another respectful krivit extension on the flip side. with their gorgeous “warm weather.” written by maestro dexter wansel and featuring barbara walker on lead vocals. the laid-back pulse of this smooth ‘81rare groove mainstay has never fallen out of favor with djs who understand the power of gentle persuasion.
house heaven on 12-inch. a lofty description. but one that fits most excellent unlimited’s latest offering perfectly. in 1990. boy george and simon rogers (the fall) made a record called “generations of love” for george’s post-culture club project. jesus loves you. legendary nyc dj and producer bruce forest was one of several big names brought in to do a set of remixes. and the better days veteran got to work on several contrasting versions of the cut. the mixes heard here. done at london’s famed olympic studios. are slices of utter ecstasy for anyone who has a taste for ‘90s deep house euphoria and ambient dancefloor excursions. but were unfortunately lost amongst the countless alternate mixes. suffice to say. meu is taking matters into our own hands and has remastered and properly packaged these tracks. directly sourced from forest himself. with the full intention to give this erstwhile dollar-record the respect it deserves. the jazz mix opens with a winding piano solo by andy whitmore (spandau ballet. terence trent d’arby. soul ii soul) that lures the listener into a hypnotic groove that could quite comfortably go on forever but here is constrained by our modesty and the 12-inch format. (a tip for the adventurous dj: flipped to 33rpm the tune becomes an epic balearic chugger. a late-night psylocibic alternative for the heads.) the synth-heavy sounds of the ambient mix on the flip side harken back to the chill-out rooms of the ‘90s but twenty-some years later bring the best kind of vintage charm.
the ep contains two solo tunes and one made in collaboration with jovia armstrong. keith beber. carolyn ferrari and craig huckaby. it’s parrish’s first release since last year’s gentrified love part 3. made with amp fiddler and ideeyah.
for his last dance with lolea blutch sets our soul on fire. showing a new side of himself with 3 bangers rounded off with a remix by red rack em. author of the aptly named hit. -wonky bassline disco banger-. as complex as his previous releases. this ep draws on the influences of hip hop. house and soul for a more powerful and electronic effect .... that ll blow your socks o

phantasm is a new vinyl label and collaboration between amsterdam s sinchi collective and the much-admired night noise outlet. based in geneva. it kicks off with a strong ep from the soviet union aka richard baldwin. including classy remixes from sinchi themselves and in flagranti. baldwin has a signature style that is cinematic and synth heavy and has been formed over the last decade plus. a fine dj. experienced promoter and self-confessed addict of vintage analogue synthesizers and drum machines. richard pulls his influences from early electronica. 80s film-scores. and shades of techno right up to the present day. this track was first written on a cold evening in december 2010 using a roland tr707 and jx8p synth. after collaborating with his songwriting partner the track was given a haunting vocal and released as the disappearance of becky sharp . while the original remained on baldwin s soundcloud and got id requests from all over the world. 7 years later it comes back to life in the form of its original instrumental. with a 2017 rework. plus remixes by sinchi and in flagranti.

a heavyweight classic! don t laugh is one of those records. you know you ve heard it. you may not who. what or where. but you know it! the original winx mix is a classic. often imitated. never bettered. but the real gem here is richie hawtin s manic. almost borderline sinister 15+ minute reworking. monster doesn t do it justice. tweaked out. narcotic. minimalist jacking gear. a dope combination of severe low end and some bracing sine waves that cut straight through. this one will surely test any club sound-system. if the venue is built for it you will know! this is one for the real heads. pure late night business oft overlooked for the more famous a-side. but trust us - hawtin s mix will smash any dance! oh. and there s an insane laughing acappella for those who want to mix and blend! reissued. remastered and re-sorted for 2017
systemrmx01 is our first full remix release consisting of five tracks reworked from any of the previous releases. we took a unique approach on this project and made all parts from all tracks available to mix and match as the artists saw fit. heavy hitters ben sims. dustin zahn. and drumcell all contributed great interpretations. enjoy!
the birdsmakingmachine duo is back with what could be the more extroverted ep of the series. the birds are painting a more funky and psychedelic palette on top of their mechanical rolling grooves. with a hint of rave and acid.
part 2 of darren allen’s discobar debut takes us on four more precision mindtrips. exploring further the technological influences found in part 1. on ‘atonement’. clattering percussive and plunging bass come laced with a stinsonesque synth line. creating a flightier vibe. the distorted hum of hardware-gone-haywire introduces ‘scanners’. a convulsed tribute to the cronenburg classic that rounds out this ep in typically trippy style.‘tv sickness’ is a post-perlon prowler. the softened shuffle of its first half returning with renewed vigour after a woozy mid-track breakdown. then reprised in a beatless coda.

swiss artist and veteran producer ripperton contacted the esp institute out of the blue mid-2017 to share a gorgeous mix of self-produced material. a collection of pieces made without any agenda outside of representing the self. not geared toward the dancefloor or a specific environment but simply a bi-product of introspective exploration. we were floored. the mix was on constant repeat in our world for weeks. then was subsequently pulled apart into separate titles to form this beautiful double lp. ripperton’s debut with the label. the title sight seeing speaks of someone stepping outside their current reality to look in the mirror. as if to ground themselves and keep sight of who they are in a world of extreme highs and lows. inspired greatly by expansive landscapes and views from airplane windows (imagine your commute flying over the alps every weekend). ripperton describes this collection as postcards to himself. messages from his subconscious recorded on tape (both conceptually and literally). melancholy soundtracks to the mondays that follow weekend journeys. while musical genres tend to cycle through bandwagon moments. the esp institute strives to operate independently of these. and while sight seeing is undoubtably an ambient album. we’re simply proud to revel in the chance moment where an esteemed artist such as ripperton spreads his wings in a beautifully unexpected mode of expression.
label friend jules heffner is doing his debut on terrace trips. -swamp- kicks off with some jungle sounds and a deep dotted bass line. guy from downstairs (gfd. robsoul) serves a smooth remix with a rolling morphing bass line and some crisp percussion hints. on the b-side -wharf- is with his flurry synths more like a fata morgana tearing you in some wet fantasies. a remix of this one is coming from anatol who just uses some synths from the original and a simple 303 bass line which turns the track in a more minimalistic direction you better use nobite on this one.
from the redwood forests of big sur and the industrial warehouses of downtown los angeles comes pfeiffer. a label dedicated to quality and a diverse musical output. pfeiffer follows in the footsteps of labels such as svek and kompakt. known for releasing a wide range of techno and house with a common thread of unique and unpredictable energy. looking to bring this type of eclectic curation into the modern era. pfeiffer draws inspiration from the raw simplicity and effortless magnetism of its namesake location on the central coast of california. february 9th marks the release of pfeiffers first musical offering. a-side big tent sets the tone with raw. minimal percussion and acid tinged melodies. b-side twist brings a healthy dose of chicago and detroit influence to a track that feels colder than house. but warmer than techno. the first of many releases to come. pfe001 marks the tip of the iceberg for pfeiffer. a label which will continue to reveal itself over time.
r&s welcomes acid mondays for a 12inch of lysergic house music that reaches far into the outer cosmos. formed -somewhere in the 5th dimension acid mondays is the cosmic coalition of fellow psychonauts negghead (dan ward) and lex wolf (alex wolfenden). repeated transformative visits to ibiza culminated in landing regular slots at circoloco where they have been testing this tune in the dance all summer long.universal rhythm. their latest interstellar dispatch and debut on r&s is their finest work to date. an anthemic paean to the cosmos that features an impassioned spoken word missive from shamanistic mc shovell. impressively recorded in a single take. making the case for the universality of experience and oneness of all beings. latin rhythms fuse with a driving fender rhodes lick (provided by jd73) and percolating cow bells to hypnotic effect. this calls to mind a combination of classic carl craig and villalobos at his most playful. r&s new signing the maghreban supplies a killer dubbed out take on the original that strips away the heavy kicks and pumps up the percussion. hurtling the synth pads to the fore that comes on like john carpenter peaking on mdma

excise is thrilled to host san francisco underground xture max gardner on the label’s 3rd vinyl release. max runs the legendary californian party crew direct to earth and he’s equally a hypnotic dj selector and highly skilled synthesist. as you’ll see on this release max’s tracks are not only excellent dj tools but also deeply interesting for close-listening: truly unique electronic music dif culty to pigeonhole into a genre. “mona loops” is an immersive experience on club speakers as an eerie high-pitched synth line twists in unexpected ways over powerful waves of bass. next max remixes label co-owner muon’s track “kmc” redefining its raw elements into a blitzing four and half minute romp held together by a jagged low-mid frequency lead line. “broken pinkies” is hard to de ne. all we can say is it embodies the feeling of the san francisco all night underground world more than any single song in recent memory. it begs for repeat listening. yan cook joins the excise family for a banging remix of “broken pinkies”almost shocking in its spin off the original. we’re huge fans of yan over here and this track embodies what we love most about his productions - groovy but with serious bite.

lillygood party! is returning with the 3rd instalment of their officially licenced re-edits.
both tracks here are classics dancefloors tunes . nothing rare. just favourite tunes that alex and stéphane played for many years.

the b side is an amazing track from seawind that everybody who is into jazz funk or latin jazz with vocals will dig it. this version is different than the original. we kept only the more dancefloor friendly parts and we extended the beginning and end of the track with only drum rhythmic reprogrammed for mixing easily in your sets with other tunes. please enjoy as much as we do because we love those edits. we love those tunes. we love music we are very happy with this release because its really really good!
justin chapman (half of the kemeticjust duo) is back with -stay my way-. his first release on visions recordings.
inspired by a distant collaboration with alex attias. the soul original version features chapman s signature vocal harmonies floating over latin influenced house rhythm and melody to provide the motivation for feet and hips.
the just one remix pushes things into the realm of broken beats with a hard swing on the drums. and a deep and jazzy bass walk that gives edge to the keys and vox melodies. classic just one here!justin has produced records for neroli. rushhour. sonar kollektiv and some collaboration with recloose for planet e and deetron for music man.
