growing up in chicago, later detroit-based music producer, theo parrish is internationally well known for his own inimitable downtempo house music style. the approach parrish took to compiling dj-kicks was very ambitious, inviting his detroit peers to produce a collection of brand new material, and in turn creating the first ever all exclusive entry to the esteemed series.

2022 repress , theo parrish must have been in love when he recorded the a-side track >solitary flight<: a straighter and more flexed beat as usual with beautiful, dreamy jazz piano improvisation on top and a romantic, soundtrack-like string motifs underneath make up for a truly uplifting piece of soul music. the flip is on the rougher tip again with raw, clashing hi-hats and claps with a menacing, claustrophoic sound tapestry out of piano and synth chords in the back. sheer excellence from the man again!

parrish smith makes his dekmantel debut on the labels sister-techno imprint, ufo, with a blend of avant garde electronics and industrial. with the sex, suicide & speed metal ep , dutch producer parrish smith works outside of the realm of genres and tempos, creating his own unique template of saturated, electronic post-punk, having won accolades from the likes of nina kraviz, and ron morelli along the way. an analogue purist at heart, parrish smith has already amassed a cult following with regular appearances on red light radio, in which the anarcho-experimentalist broadcasts sessions of heavy industrialism, breakbeats and body music.

the last few years has seen parris make a name for himself across a number of scenes, to the extent he is just as likely to be found spinning records for butterz as he is putting records out on berceuse heroique. here at idle hands we first touched base with parris many moons ago when he bought copies of the first release on his soundman chronicles label into our shop. as it is one of our favourite labels we were intrigued to hear what he would come up with as producer himself. needless to say we were impressed. presented here are two tracks that perfectly reflect his sound and our own a nod to techno here, a weighty bass line there, a love of reverb everywhere and all with a view to being played in dark rooms late at night. the 12 inch of burr and blue is idle hands last release of 2015 and we think it rounds off nicely what has been a great year for the label.

parris mitchell returns on chiwax classic edition part 23. his former release on dance mania #66 from 1994 comes remastered to hit the dance floors again.

this one is really raw dirty monotonous early techno beats with some claustrophobic noises, lots of old acid sounds from old analog gear, 303s filtered by hand, headcutting hi hats and an overall dark atmosphere. flashback to the early days of mr.finger, adonis etc

(pronounced trip) label with a double-ep compilation entitled the deviant octopus, featuring a pair of brand new productions from kraviz alongside material from terrence dixon, emerging talent parrish smith & bjarki, and veteran producers exos & steve stoll.

parrish smith s debut of dystopic forbidding sets the tone of this label s impressive first release with a superb stark, acid ridden slab of body music. helena hauff adds to the proceedings with her remix of pankows >das vodkalied< taking no prisoners and using heavy percussion in contrast to a wonderfully tense set of arpeggiations, which all descend into skull crushing pressure. carrying over to the flip side are pankow, pioneers of the italian industrial/ebm scene, with two tracks from their legendary first tape -throw out rite- from 1983. with das vodkalied disembodied vocals are cut up and come from every direction driven by a raw, off-kilter energy and pounding beat. i m food for you cranks up the drive and anxiety to create a killer track based around stark arpeggiation. last of all, perseus traxx provides an acidic stripped down venting of frustrations which he spits out with vehemence.

excellent freekin / abstract deep house. just brilliant.

re-issue of a classic 95 dance mania tune that is ultra raunchy thanks to the vocals of reggie hall. includes the old school acid house b-side of bounce. bok bok delivers an updated remix of stripped back, jukin beats with the raunchy vocals (as well as a dub remix).

after the trippy translations of the helium robot space trip called jarza, theo parrishs second and very welcomed visit to running back is all new material - almost. black mist in its extended version is just that: an extended take of the already released version on the rare-as-hens-teeth sketches pack. cut on 45, its a hard punch in the gut. techno-not-techno-house-not-house parrish power. previously unreleased and no less persuasive are pop off and wild out. while the first one centers around an endless piano and sucks you into the corny, but magic of repetition, the second one sounds like a theo parrish demo for dance mania after he came back from listening to lil louis at the bismark pavilion. mosh pit music. limited pressing in full printed sleeves.
