while our output in 2017 has been delayed, our pursual of quality artists persisted. moods & grooves welcomes detroit area artist jason hogans best know for his debut ep peter and the rooster on planet e. his introductory effort on m&g also features the multi-talented paul randolph. sue features pauls effortlessly awesome vocal and bass guitar talents, funky wurlitzer chords, and chunky drums. andres gives sue a proper deep bounce treatment with his stomping remix. work the terminals- is an animated, minorkey, wallshaking analog bassline (ask his neighbor) & cracking drum kit with an lfo/filter-freaked sample chop chutney holding it all together on a funky house tip. yum, y all. the work the terminals ep is inspired by jason’s traveling and performing over the past several years and we hope it moves you.

nagano native yoshiki tsuchiya aka mirugas roots are deeply embedded in jazz music. his studies included jazz and funk drumming as well as the catalog of the legendary strata-east label. miruga presents four emotionally deep cuts which fit perfectly on moods & grooves. each track in the spirit garden ep tells a unique story as seen through the eyes of yoshiki. into the zone is a plea for people of all countries to come together based on recent world events, in heaven above is a prayer for those lost in japanese natural disasters such as the one at the fukushima daiichi nuclear power plant. the pain, sorrow, and absence of love is felt in without words, while scenery in my mind is an insight of mirugas dream or philosophy: dont stop or look back, keep moving, and make things happen. if you appreciate the original spirit of what was once known as deep house, then you are sure to find pleasure in this offering from miruga.

very classic sounding deep house from brian harden. the crown jewel of his album get gets the re-rub from label honcho mike grant. haunting sounds from the past that feel like old frankie knunke sets, this is bringing back the deep sound that is re-establishing detroit again as a major force in house music. mike’s throw down’s are really smoked out, blending soulful strings and chunky beats that meet with pure emotion from the blinding rhodes solos. very moodyman/ ron trent.

more deep and moody grooves from mike grants label. greg stadford is behind the monkier black art who’s previous production credits have included mixes of blake baxters seminal deep n da groove ep. nice and jazzy the favourite cut is just groovin a wicked blend of st germain keys and funky organ riffs, over some skippy detroit drums. dig this is a mellow late night journey of psychedelic horns and guitar licks with dreamy pianos floating over the top. ‘sweet’ is more on a broken jazz tip with live drums and a cute vocal snip that dubs itself over the rhodes bed. the production quality of this ep is stunning. very strong stuff from m & g!

the a-side holds a hard-hitting, percussive techno-house hybrid that sounds a bit like an air frog production but features additional cool vocal licks on top. b-side has a basic, bass-heavy, pouding tech-house groove with strong detroit sound influences. strong!
