repress - future music duo second woman’s sophomore full-length for spectrum spools further hones their distinctive fusion of shapeshifting software sculpture and tessellated footwork. shivering digital textures oscillate with and against algorithmically mapped percussion samples, smeared synthetic chords levitate in the distance, stabs of digital noise punctuate the mix in twitchy, time-distorting patterns. their anamorphosis verges on ascetic: stark, splintered waveforms rendered into unique fiber optic hieroglyphs.
multi-instrumentalists josh eustis and turk dietrich share a deep history going back to their days in the new orleans ambient electronic community, as part of telefon tel aviv and belong, respectively. even so, s/w pushes beyond their combined discographies to date, flexing impossibilities, building rhythms from arrhythmia, teasing veiled emotion from bold iterations of cold code.

wilted woman returns to one of her homes at primitive languages with a follow up to the coveted cassette release “fluid”. on “watching the psycho”, she offers three tracks of condensed rhythmic gestures that tightly encapsulate various aspects of her wide-cast palate.

alien jams presents a new release by wilted woman called home listener. after releasing the amazing -diary of a woman- on she rocks! earlier this year, ww is back with this sublime 5 track ep. from the onset, playful synth patterns mingle and coalesce, spiralling towards dizzy culminations. at times wobbly and disjointed, ww creates stunning compositions that would work magic on the dancefloor. each track of home listener feels like its own paranormal entity, living organisms that develop and grow as the music unfolds.

russian born anastasia vtorova is based in berlin and makes music under the name machine woman. prior to joining the technicolour ranks, she has released two 12”s - via the self-titled imprint of swedish producer peder mannerfelt (2015) and uk label where to now? (2016) - plus a handful of very limited cassettes via sacred tapes (2015), tesla tapes and ono (2014).

womans heiß ersehntes debütablum happy freedom ist nun über asmara records erhältlich. einfache antworten sind gefragt. woman stellen lieber fragen. zum beispiel diese hier: where you gonna go when the planet erupts? heißt es im ersten vers von dust, dem ersten song auf happy freedom, dem ersten album des kölner trios. seit fünf jahren wird bereits über diese band gemunkelt, wer sie von anfang an kennt, tauscht seine frühen eindrücke wie geheimwissen aus. die geschichte begann 2012 in der kellerbar im belgischen viertel von köln. drei befreundete musiker aus der stadt hatten noch nicht einmal einen namen, aber das erste set stand. es war laut und chaotisch, halb einstürzende neubauten, halb suicide. wer damals dabei war, rieb sich die augen: okay, das ding steckte konzeptionell noch in den kinderschuhen, aber die intensität und experimentierfreude der musik nahm alle ein.

lange war es ruhig um die band, die mit vereinzelten auftritten in köln schon eine gewisse mystik um sich aufbaute, bevor es überhaupt richtig los ging. woman machen popmusik, die sich sowohl an soul und r&b, als auch an 80er synthesizern orientiert, sowie einflüsse davon integriert. radiohead und grizzly bear sind die referenzen, die auch den anspruch der band beschreiben. es geht um eingängigkeit, ohne dabei dem radio-pattern zu sehr zu folgen. dabei clever und zugängig bleiben.
