american producer dustin zahn readies the next release on rekids special projects this april with four vigorous cuts entitled take the throne. dustin zahn has been flying the techno flag for two decades, releasing on labels like rekids when not helming the berlin-based enemy records, a label which has released music from artists like fellow us techno stalwart ambivalent, arts boss emmanuel, and innervisions producer yotam avni. zahn is also respected for train wrecks, his weekly podcast series inviting members of the house and techno community to discuss a wide variety of music and industry related topics and stories. the release opens with the thumping kicks and sci-fi melodies of take the throne before rolling into the dubby tones, infectious claps and rattling white noise of decorum. the atmospheric nameless midnight then follows, packed with echoing synths, tantalising effects and a twisted vocal sample that weaves throughout, arriving at the final track subtle flex where escalating synths meet syncopated percussion.

lion and the mean ecstasy of “you’ve got a woman”, the b-side to their sole release comprise a rare burst of psychedelic western soul from two names best known for dutch progressive rock and new wave. drummer peter de leeuwe, departing from the symphonic leanings of dutch prog-fixtures ekseption, penned it in 1975, layering syncopated explosions of hand-claps, vibraslap and slick drumwork with neutron-star density, with super-producer hans van hemert nearly bursting glenn robles vocals through the fore. the shoes subtle edit provides exactly that, gently teasing the organ- and requintohinted contours of the track to better suit the treasure within. chicago-based septet whitney have brought some attention to youve got a woman with a recent cover, and the faith with which they recreate much of the original instrumentation proves the extent of lions accomplishment.

the patron saints of altered states known as john frum welcome in the golden age of musical enlightenment with a stirring in the noos. nearly 6 years in the making, john frum’s unorthodox debut maneuvers through 40 minutes of darkly psychedelic and meticulously crafted death metal, acting as a medium for malefic musings, the backdrop of a bad trip. john frum borrows its name from a relatively isolated group of natives in the south pacific islands, known as a cargo cult, whose encounter with the outside world led to an awakening of new beliefs and lifestyles. the mysterious john frum is the manifestation of four musical minds coalescing in a collective consciousness developed from time spent playing with the dillinger escape plan, the faceless, john zorn, cleric and many more elite projects. a stirring in the noos is a dismal distillation of oneric transmission and a totem to modern primitivism in heavy music.

back on the selector tip, nyc loft trax compiles another volume of really nice deep, chunky and funky grooves! the a side promises a great selection with the first two tracks by kick that funk & bonjour sounding like a 1990 s chicago meets paris reunion! the 3rd track by subtle approach is created using deep dirty sliced and diced samples blended to perfection: stellar work. then there is a totally different vibe on the b-side starting off with a brazilian house groove by dubrazil surely influenced by the maw sound no doubt! next blackdub s classic disco meets detroit piece -melodies of dub- gives us a bit of theo parish or kenny dixon jr. feeling, hot! the final track by pascal cordoba is jazzy groove touched by australia s dj freestyle, who is on the radar lately due to the jordan fields & roy davis jr. warehouse find of -the session- on nu jack city records. you should have all 8 of the nyc loft trax vinyl at this point if not, why not?

repress 2016 - happy to welcome le loup (hold youth, half baked,concrete music) in the aeternum music family, still young and already many releases on known and respected labels. he delivers here two tracks full of grooves in a housy touch that he knows well. while on the b side we are pround to have a remixer no less than baby ford (perlon, trelik) which delivers a magical remix to close this ep in a perfect way.

british powerhouse alan fitzpatrick returns to figure with his second ep on the label after 2009 s weed killer / science . since then its clear that alan has continued on a dedicated, valiant quest to find his own sound, and the results are on show here, with a heavyweight, emotive and futuristic techno three-tracker. like a warm rush of endorphins on the summer breeze, alan s rich up-building sound is perfectly represented in tracks like a subtle change , with its jubilant stab-led melody, or the modern club-weapon vibes of trigger finger . harking back to late 90s uk idm and proper dub-techno atmospheres, fitzpatrick then gracefully crafts a down-tempo, space-out version of a subtle change for the b-side, providing the afterhours sessioners with a new buzz-track.

futureboogie open their 2015 account with this killer slab of sophisticated twisted disco from lonely boy, aka joshua heath. the californian producer has a track record for finely crafted house music on labels like miguel migs’ salted music and the inland knights’ drop music. his lonely boy moniker has yielded music for culprit and winding road, and this fbr release comes backed with an epic remix from the emperor machine.

2002 classic by yann fontaine (ovum. low pressings) with a deep, deep rerub from west caost favourite lance desardi (seasons). in a very metro area vibe, lance takes the dubby tech original into a smoked out trip of new wave keys and mininimal drums, that morgan geist would sweat on. the flip heads into rob paine world, with a low rumbling bassline and rasta fills. a litle more reserved than yanns normal tech housers, this is a cool track that could easily be on bluem or environ.
