r&s newcomer karim sahraoui delivers an ep of deep, emotive techno that draws on the rich legacy of detroit while staying relevant for the modern era. sahraoui is a globetrotting seeker of musical truth spending time in malaysia, italy and spain as well as his native france, he recorded in the early 2000s to some acclaim as djinxx, releasing prolifically for delsin, cocoon, f-com bedrock, and ovum amongst others. in 2009 he took a couple of years out from the industry, travelling to malaysia to find himself. in 2011 a chance meeting reconnected sahraoui with derrick may, who he originally met in the late 90s. may was reactivating transmat and persuaded karim to let him release his music, but on the condition it be under his own name. the resulting pair of eternal life eps in 2014 and 2016 marked his rich return to form glorious melodic, contemplative techno in the classic motor city mode. his plenitude ep for r&s builds on similar positive themes - from the percolating arpeggios and mystic melodies of spy of the desert, to the anthemic jazzy techo paen of born again or the aching symphonic build of before the 2nd coming its clear that after decades in the business sahraouis talent is only growing rather than diminishing. i wanted to give it more spirituality, musicality and roots with the choice of the sounds. going back in the past and transcribe everything with visionary fusions, sahraoui explains.

raoul k is known for blending the sounds of real westafrican instruments and modern electronic clubsounds into one mesmerizing soundscape. this time, he takes a new approach: the original mix is produced without the use of any electronic instrument. just pure african sounds, chopped and melted together into one groovy slice of contemporary clubmusic. this is the first release in a series celebrating the tenth year of baobab music… which will lead to a new raoul k album. electronics aren’t completely left out. the blending, however, was left to the remixers this time: irfan adds a good measure of energy in his mix, setting up some analog synths with raoul’s beats. watch out for the break… kaito delivers a very dreamy remix which seems to lose its kickdrum but does not lose its groove. dance into the sunrise. choose vinyl, please

welcoming back our early label recrute maoupa mazzocchetti delivering the long-awaited follow-up to both his debut releases on unknown precept. emerging back in 2014 to then become an esteemed music maker in the inner-circles of the underground community, the brussels based sound artisan quickly established himself as a complete artist made of a peculiar and inexhaustible surge of inspiration -- always making sure to stay off the beaten paths while exploring the nooks and crannies of his disturbed and facetious mindset throughout his latest productions.

karim sahraoui, known by releases on labels such as transmat, cocoon and arts, as well as dj appearances on boiler room and on dancefloors all around the world, makes his debut on off recordings. book of life is a melodic techno track in karim s signature style. warm and emotional, albeit with a strong drive for the dancefloor, it can set a strong accent in a set. italy s dast created a slamming peaktime techno interpretation, which is sure to create a massive effect on the dancefloor. syncopated chords and a rolling groove build towards an epic break. -exodus- is aptly named as a perfect track to close the set by the end of the night. lush and warm pads and melodies evoke a warm and optimistic atmosphere. anton pieete remixed exodus with a minimalistic and more groove-focused interpretation. altogether an ep with a timeless feel, spanning the borders between techno, house and electronica.

nick klein and maoupa mazzocchetti recorded some wild jams while touring together last year for an unknown precept label showcase. combining noisy sounds with live melodic synth riffs as well as a jacking 808, klein and mazzocchetti made some harsh left-of-center techno. with time signature and tempo changes mid-track, this music has a zero fucks given attitude. recorded in berlin. hand stamped 7 inches manufactured in the usa. quality music for your soul!

contemplative, but never melancholic, rather with a positive mood, the tracks diffuse an overwhelming lightness and radiate a lighthearted happiness, which are manifested on an incredibly emotional and spiritual level. with the simple and classic black and white artwork the two releases from sahraoui balance eachother like yin und and yang. the second part of the eternal life ep has a very different background than the first ep. it is the white yang of these two natural opposites, contrary forces that are interconnected and interdependent. the record is significantly calmer, less clubby and references the beginnings of the detroit sound

karim sahraoui has been producing gems for many years under various names such as djinxx, soul monkey and electronique resistance. after a break 2014 saw his return to the business under his real name and producing music that is closer to him than ever. releases included the future classic eternal life ep pt 1 on derrick mays transmat and appearances on labels such as cocoon. the a-side features the epic 10-minute original version of horns of glory on which karim takes his time to unfold the story of the track: a journey filled with beautiful melodies and rhythms that paint a lush landscape of sound. side b features the earth from above which again has a fairy-tale feeling to it. the b2 is vince watsons pumping and powerful remix of horns of glory which gives the track an energetic hypnotic quality and rounds off the package well.

the next part of mr raoul ks album >still living in slavery<. it is delivered in a picture sleeve that will hold all three records and will also look very good on your record shelf. musicwise, the first side features all three chapters of >dounougnan magni< stretched over almost eighteen minutes. pure afrofunk bliss with beautiful keyboards played by kuniyuki takahashi. the track also features the vocal talents of hamed sosso who accompanies the listener throughout his journey. an emotional trip, starting in hot desert plain and ending on cloudy hilltops.

this twelve-inch is the first in triple that will make up the vinyl version of mr raoul ks album still living in slavery - his first album on his own label. the second twelve-inch will be release in a picture sleeve that will be able to hold all three records.

mr raoul k finally got one of his personal ‘heroes to do a remix on one of his tracks. joe claussel takes ‘ayoka (taken from ‘neo-evolution 02?) to a whole new level. he adds a lot of jazz-tingend sounds (especially percussion) and athmosphere but manages to keep the overall african timbre of the original.

the second single to come from miaoux miaouxs acclaimed >light of the north< album, the limited >autopilot< e.p brings us the original track backed with a heavy-duty line-up remixing select tracks from the album. the original title-track is a glittering synth-fuelled hymn to heartbreak, which incorporates elements of bass and hip-hop, while recalling the stylistic flourishes of boards of canada. reworking >hey sound!<, glasgows very own auntie flo and esa bring their exotic stomp to the table: a percussive journey soaked in dubwise holy water. tom furses remix of >stop the clocks< is almost like a reigned-in, beat driven version of john elliots outer space project, thick cosmic ritual elixir bubbling over the sides. already having made his name on skreams disfigured dubz, echo park takes on >autopilot<, turning the original into a cast-iron lesson in militant rhythm. echo parks real talent however lies with integrating elements of the original seamlessly with his own punishing sound palette.

cazumas yume is a delicately balanced trip, from a broke, raw groove towards the light. striving upwards all the way, higher through beautifully orchestrated pads, strings and chants. if you flip the record, you will find envie by mr raoul k. if you know raouls sound, you would probably find this one to be on the clubbier tip. bulding from a groove of raouls patented percussive arrangement comes an electronic sandstorm, from tiny stabs through a full on and freaked out break where the mighty beat is totally lost. and then back at it! this is really one of those tracks that you cant help yourself from playing whenever control is lost on the dancefloor, a gateway to the crowds inner animal.

this release should have an all natural ingedients sticker on it. all sounds you hear are from traditional instruments - recorded on various occasions in ivory coast. it took mr raoul k quite some time to get his hand on all the raw materia he needed. he then cut it in bits and pieces and rearranged the sonic puzzle to a slowly evolving track. join his journey that starts in the cold of a desert at night. the temperature rises with the sun. when things heat up too much, you have to take a rest in the shadows beneath a tree. meet some fiends, talk and relax - but dont get lost. keep you groove alive and head toward your destination. choose vinyl, please!!!

evolution takes a lot of time to achieve the best results. in his track, mr raoul k uses the concept of evolution to travel with you through this musical journey. every section of the track seems to evolve. simple patterns grow into complex patterns. more instruments join in. some stay, some are dropped after a few bars. listen closely and you can follow mr raoul ks on his path along the production process. the only sound, that accompanies you throughout the track is the choir that chants in an ancient african language - the world is nothing without humanity. the track closes with some minutes of beats for your mixing pleasure. choose vinyl!

this is 2nd edition of remix single. the remixer of a side is our friend artist/dj in new york thomas bullock aka welcome strangers/rub n tug. thomas stripped down the much guitar sound and added trippy sounds, the result is like kraut rock version of original song. b side is instrument version of kuniyuki remix which is released on mule musiq 59. this vershion is more dj tool.

mr raoul k and baobab secret take the next step and put out new remixes of >le karantkatrieme peul<. prisme are a belgian duo (nicolas pepinster and yves theys) who started to produce their own material in 2010. they liked the title track so much that they remixed it and sent the result to mr raoul k who instantly fell in love with the melodic and laid back approach they took on it. this lush piece makes a perfect entry into a long night out, promising that every piece will fall into place. the other production crew featured on this release are the iklawa brothers (mzwandile nxasana and sandile magwaza) who run their own label in durban, south africa. they are big fans of mr raoul ks work and have been dropping his tunes in their sets on a regular basis. their remix is a dark, afrobeat driven tune that takes the listener on a long trip into a gloomy world full of surprising musical twists, dramatic changes of mood and impressing string sounds. the last remix is done by mr raoul k himself. he shows a new side of his musical skills. resulting in an epic track that seems to dance on tiptoes around a giant beast. one small step. hesitate. check carefully what happens. do not disturb. just watch in astonishment how it slowly awakes and stretches out to its full glory. a track that is full of hope, but reminds us to keep our feet to the ground to provide a solid stand.

for this 10th wph release we looked towards belgiums finest raoul lambert aka raoul belmans aka one half of swirl people to follow up on his splendid wph blue b-side track 3 seconds released late 2009. raoul quickly sent us cinnamon dreams, the result of a long valencia-session with friend and fellow producer nacho marco, during which they apparently ate the whole spanish supply of belgian speculoospasta, a specialty that cannot be translated in english, but it contains cinnamon, hence the name of the track and the ep

in classical geometry, the triangle is the simplest polygon. the one which can be used to construct all other polygons. the root of them all. three points define a plane in space. thus resulting in the phenomenon that a tripod always has a safe and solid stand. three musicians teamed up to produce the triangle peul. in addition to the well known mr raoul k rollercoaster ride through moods from contemplation to euphoria, producing as part of a team adds a new dimension of dialog to his work. itÆs no longer just the communication between him and the audience, this time the communication that happened during the production process shines through. the fun, the deep concentration and the energy that everyone felt and committed is recognisable for the audience with ease. unsurprisingly, the triangle peul comes in three different mixes including a drum laden beatstramental for those who still like to mix.

our favorite african producer mr raoul k is back to mule musiq. this new single is a first single cut from his new (debut?) album which coming in the late this year or beg of next year. raoul k recorded all instruments like african traditinal guitar cora in africa and he added his unique psychdelic touch. the result is a playful african deep house.

mr raoul k is a one of the hottest newcomer of deep house scene. his unique touch deep house track with its roots of african taste are already fascinating many people. title track wind of goree is a unique deep house track with his trademark balafon sound. this track will be a nice dj tool to mix from minimal house stuff to more deep house stuff. b side abuja is an authentic afro house track!

as some of you may have already noticed, each release of mr raoul ks >peul< series features a specicific african instrument as its main sound. this time its the balafon - a kind of sticcado, which uses calabashes as resonancebodies and is often handcrafted by its player. here, the balafon is used as a rhythmic and a melodic instrument. after a long intro, the track gathers momentum and takes off for one of those long buildups. when the tension is released, in come the vocals! rising from a sparse chant to an energetic vocal that empathically pleads for unity. then you get your beats back and off goes another african-european joyride. for those of you who arent that much into vocals, a less vocalized mix is provided on the flipside. enjoy another mr raoul k special treat

still living in slavery is mr raoul ks third album. it is, however, the first one that will be released on his own label baobab music. he thought for quite some time about to shift the african instruments and african rhythm structures that uses in his production processs into a more dominant, more exposed position. giving them a role of there own and freeing them from being bound to a groove coined by a four-to-the-floor kickdrum. while using dominating drumsounds when producing records aimed for the dancefloor seemed reasonible, they werent needed for the storytelling concept throughout this album and are left to the accompanying remixes.
