sing like a bird (reprise) is a fresh version of the track originally released last year on peter van hoesen s time to express label, to which shuttle fans will have become familiar with in recent sets. it maintains the original s hazy reverbed flavour, but in the form of a more groove-oriented and psychedelic edit that sidelines much of the original s vocal track in favour of a snake enchanter-like synewave melody, for a less lyrical but equally musical new take. the b-side back here is an older track that shuttle has been holding back for a while, waiting for the right moment to reveal this atmospheric, melancholic and melodic track, in which intricately delayed layers of piano keys progressively unfold through a rich percussive background made of 808 rims, deep bass kicks, heavy toms and jazzy hats and rides.

after 2 blinding releases on lies and russian torrents, the italian uprising techno producer domenico crisci lands on fellow italian marco shuttles label eerie with some serious, 909 driven, stripped down techno biz. no matter how pretentious it might sound these are tracks that gravitate quite comfortably in a mills-esque kind of orbit but they somehow also remind of early downwards brutal material. label boss marco shuttle features in the ep with a remix of one of the tracks (lash) bringing the original into a more broken, abstract and dark (of course) territory.

there are some records that manage to sound both of a time and utterly timeless and bon voyage organisation s jungle? quelle jungle? (a nod to supertramp s crisis? what crisis?) is one of those albums. its silken-smooth production, irresistible grooves, funk-tinged guitars, lush soundscapes and general glowing presence could easily lead one to believe that have dug up a lost disco gem from the 1970s. however, behind the disco-pop gleam lies eerie dystopian sci-fi ruminations of a futuristic bent and tones that can often feel as french as they do asian or african. this sort of cross-continental exploration is an expansion on bvo s previous two eps, the man behind the organisation, adrien durand, says. -i tried to continue the musical expedition between dystopian science-fiction haunted africa - plus haitian vaudou on -soleil dieu- - and futuristic asia. addressing, in a double entendre manner, some of the political issues that i am sensitive to.- in fact the jungle in question in the album s title is a metaphorical one and one that creates a vast series of environments for durand to explore such subjects as world trade, utopian ideals and themes of idols, as well as of time and communication. however, one will need to speak french to decipher such explorations, as well as shake off the natural impulse to move with every glorious beat on its 13 tracks, of which are moved along by maud nadal and agathe bonitzer s golden vocals.

reissue of in demand classic.dubtraxx was new on the scene back in 2019 when they dropped this ep which has since become something of a mini-classic. it came on their own label rhythm n vibe and now this is seriously heavyweight gear gets reissued. soundbwoy request is especially dangerous, working plenty of dub, reggae and jungle motifs into a rugged garage structure and sounding utterly ruff in the process. towards 99 is no slouch either, albeit on a slightly housier tip than the raucous a-side. the -2000 tribute mix- of next millenium meanwhile sneaks out a few of the eerie tones you d expect to hear around the time that dubstep first started to emerge.

copenhagens echocord colour returns this mid november with brendom moellers magic city ep, featuring four originals from the new york based artist. brendon moeller has long been a purveyor of authentic dub-infused techno since stepping onto the scene via his 2006 sweetspot / humpback ep via echocord and has since gone on to release on reputable imprints such as third ear, kimochi sound, delsin’s ann aimee, mule musiq and of course his very own steadfast. here though moeller makes a welcome return to where it all began with some fresh material for echocords colour sub- label. caravan takes the lead on the release and in typical brendon moeller fashion were treated to densely layered dub chords, throbbing subs and expansive atmospherics whilst robust drums drive the composition along. magic city’ follows and ups the energy levels even further with pounding industrial drums layered underneath billowing dub stabs and eerie drones. ‘magic city in dub’ follows and as the name suggests offers up a reduced take on the composition, dropping the tempo and shining light on the billowing echoes of the original whilst stirring in some off-kilter rhythsm and additional processing for good measure. lastly,departure closes the package, with haunting synth drones, bumpy rhythms and murky vocals wandering throughout the seven-minute composition

savor’s 2021 first release has the uruguayan wonder girl, ema remedi. on this ep she provides us to 2 tracks with her signature sound. ‘virazon’ is one of her biggest tracks up to date and definitely a dancefloor smasher, while ‘nothing tolouse’ is a subtle and hypnotic roller. on remix duties we have voigtmann, who reworked ‘virazon’ adding his typical eerie touch while maintaining the dancefloor energy intact.

2020 repress - ruff cherry debuts on midgar with the retro-futuristic “ritual ep” delivering four spaced out cuts costantly spanning between dub, sci-fi ambient and deep techno. the first track ritual is a dubbed out concoction of african drums, solemn atmospheres and bleeping circuits of a meditative machine. the a side closes with the broken beat planet outlaw, a super chilled-out groove meets entrancing heavenly pads. mysterians on the flipside opens with a short intro before an eerie high pitched drum breaks in, embracing uplifting soundscapes and suddenly crossed by flying transistors. the last track on the vinyl is the deep and tribal endless world (future mix) bringin sounds from celebratory steps around the fire.
