alien jams presents planet bangs, the 4th album from nochexxx, following on from 2015s dirt-driven apocalyptic electro jaunt plot defender (type recordings). this six track lp plants another stick in the mud, showcasing the producers love for oddball tape-saturated electronic delirium. planet bangs is clearly an ecosystem in distress..., metawitch s clanging rocks paves the way for creepy unsettling yelps and 303 squelch - an acid drenched broomstick joyride over mounds of rolling subs and hilly sines-waves - on stickshift, straight-jacketed conga loops barely spit enough voltage to hold pace, like a sputtering raymond scott machine in respiratory collapse. wafting familiar smoke signals originally lit by 90s era warp and detroit techno, overhound springs out the trap with a booty bounce towards the finish line. artwork by zeke clough. 180g vinyl, mastered by rupert clervaux.

royal bangs are from knoxville. that in itself is a statement: theres not much that comes from knoxville, tennessees third largest city, and even less that gets away. quentin tarantino made it out, but the last citys mayor was allegedly so desperate to escape he now works as the us ambassador in poland. cormac mccarthy moved there as a child, of course, but by the time he d written his second book he was long gone. only johnny knoxville advertises his geographical roots, and quite clearly hes a glutton for punishment. so while just one of royal bangs currently has a passport, that doesnt mean they dont know that royal bangs is their ticket out of town.

2011 release, the follow up to 2010s successful first volume of bangs & works. the carefully curated compilation showcases chicago footwork, one of the most forward-looking, innovative new styles of electronic music on the planet. footwork is beginning to spread outside of chicago, influencing productions around the world. bangs & works vol. 2 brings the focus back onto chicagos own producers, showing where the real innovation still lies. while its predecessor sticks mainly to the more hallucinatory and left-field elements, this one has a wider remit, ranging from mad techno-style tracks to those that sound like musique concrete gone footwork.

“ample profanity” is composer laurie tompkins and cellist oliver coates collaborative debut: coagulated gristle surfacing from a beal, brooklyn-brown, ray v, bangs, gan, rugs and works acid bath. the ep collects 5 pieces composed by laurie and then co-edited and performed with olly. the former plays keys, tape player, and samples, the latter cello with effects. both sing. here is grazed, contorted classicism, here post-binge hallucinations, here gunky funk. the vinyl release includesd a download code.

radio slave’s colossal ‘the revenge’ track now gets expert remix treatment from klasse wrecks label head luca lozano. luca has also released on the likes of optimo, sex tags ufo and unknown to the unknown and brings a raw, acid tinged sound to his beats. as a performer lozano’s versatile dj sets span between raw house, cosmic disco and dynamic breakbeat selections, which is why he’s become a regular at key clubs across europe and tasteful festivals like houghton. his ‘how bow dis’ remix’ is solid and features wild old school flavours in its huge drum breaks, a monstrous bassline and dark filtered vocals. it bangs for seven superbly heavy minutes with plenty of twists and turns along the way, and will transform any club or warehouse into a writhing, sweaty mass in seconds. on the flip, his ‘how bow dah’’ version is based around elastic drums and rumbling bass while a loose synth line darts about up top. some distant synths bring a sense of serenity to the madness and so despite the physical impact of this one, it also has real emotion to it.

after putting out kito jempere s stunning sea monster album earlier in the year, hell yeah now serve up a bunch of remixes from it that have been secret weapons for the last few months. behind them are black spuma, lipelis and bell towers and they all serve up real heaters. first up with possibly their best ever remix are black spuma—a collaboration between phillip lauer (tuff city kids, arto mwambe) and fabrizio mammarella (telespazio)—who flip ampa into a bootylicious house cut with fat bass stabs and sci-fi synths. it s retro in flavour and riddled with melodies that are brightly coloured and emotive, and when the vocal is layered in it helps carry you away on a wave of bliss. for djs who prefer to keep things raw, a dub version without the vocals is also included and bangs that bit harder.

dj tennis is amazing, and the fact that he was willing to do not one but two remixes for our simple symmetry release, is more than amazing. dj tennis needs no introductions, beside the point that he is one of the best djs around and has one of the coolest labels, life and death, he is a gifted producer that transformed the two tracks of the original release into monsters, one, plane goes east, is a disco winner, that just bangs with its percussive attitude, and the other, voodoo your ex is an amazing emotional journey that elevates the original to new heights, a vinyl to have and to hold.

the third release of the vinyl only label another earth is upon us and its all about techno. esther duijn combines 2 acts together in a split ep series which compliment each others sound. for this release esther selected two notorious european techno producers she adores, opuswerk and lee holman. on the a side opuswerk delivers 2 deep driving techno tracks. rf thruster basically expands from beginning to end. this constant propulsion has a deep impact on any dance floor. he drew inspiration from jeff mills and planetary assault systems for this particular track. emdrive starts with an atmospheric intro and morphs into one epic build up that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. on the flip side lee holman bangs 2 deep and firm techno grooves like there is no tomorrow. while adaptive optics is rough on the edges it does pay attention to small details which make the track very dynamic. absorption lines puts the emphasis on a warmer atmosphere. with this track you can transform anything into a pulsating hot mass, according to esther

phrased return to lb produce with a fresh four tracker. a deep and polished meander through the darker corners of the warehouse top room.
title track “positive centre” combines a skipping, house beat with sultry diva vocals and ethereal melody lines that ping laser beams straight to the heart. “how many” is an looping, falling ambient excursion into the smoke of the dancefloor. outta the smoke comes “partition of the mind” on the flip - a deep broken house tune with zen-affirming sub-bass tumbles and hazy, polyphonic synths. “bakers tape” is a house tune that really bangs. do not sleep on this.

the debut release on office recordings is the first part of a series produced by label founder baaz. in my mind is a subtle, shiny piece of jazzyfied house music with a steady rolling groove and dirty kickdrum. glim bangs the box with deep dubs and a sexy vigorous groove. the flip starts with two mind bending downbeat cuts with a stumbling beat. last but not least a slowburning remix of way out citti by matthias reiling (sessionn victim, giegling recordings) and björn astrup who did a brilliant job twisting the original into a soulful homage to the slow side of house music.

airhead is writing big ones now. inspired by afterhours sessions in some of the worlds best and worst nightclubs, hek024 bangs with the best of them and enforces a new weight behind the producers delicate production style. the roughness debuted on this summers *believe* ep for 1-800 dinosaur (a label rob co-runs with james blake and friends) on which he soaked up plenty of influences from us and uk club tracks/trax and effortlessly intertwined them with his measured songwriting and arrangement skills.

dj clent - the low end legend - has been known for his music since the days of dance mania, releasing tracks such as *bounce* and *back up off me* which are juke classics. he also released the grimy call to arms footwork track *3rd wurle*, as well as tracks on both bangs & works compilations.

khandoits hypnotic 100 bpm stomp does not adhere to genre or fickle trends, it simply bangs. the track begins with a sturdy kick and piano glissandos which recall alice coltranes most transportative work. as the beat picks up, a creeping, filtered arpeggio enters its journey between rhythmic and downright nasty serving as the track s primary drama. its a stunning intro to the new label grimy trax, a musical chameleon that can be dropped at the beginning, middle or end of the night. to complement the epic a-side, grimy returns to the endlessly talented midwest and emerges with lulu, an original track by deejay/edit ace bruce ivery. the track seamlessly combines the chicago acid sound with the clever vocal sampling of early 90s nyc house. the result is pure peak-time heat. towards the end of the track, ivery arranges brief melodic elements into a propulsive disco facsimile. this unexpected turn summarizes the philosophy of the new label and the way this small group of artists selects and makes records. it doesnt matter if its house, disco, or techno, just make it grimy!

distinct sequences of sound, noise and rhythm. genetouche spits fire before going into acidic arp waves. hana bangs hard over a squelching bassline with seductive vocals. postulating creates a lush wall of sound. symp, emotive phasing patterns and slow harmonic rhythms.

big strick drops a soulful house number, while gh bangs out a big big groove. then they team up for a melodic dance track. simple chords, groovy baseline and knocking drums.

for the fourth r-zone, we serve up three more tracks of fizzing atmospheric house. first track exclamation is rough and rugged with rattling percussion hidden behind layers of grainy sci fi ambiance and the breathy exhalations of a male voice. nebulous pads and synths spiral around each other forming a dense layer of dust and next track march of the worms is even more militant. this one crawls deep below the surface where analogue machines carve out weird patterns, forming a truly knackered sounding house groove. finally, claustrophobic habits bangs a bit harder, its all splintered drums and coarse claps backed with a howling, gnarly groan and truly transports you to a sonic universe miles away from the norm.

this release bumps and bangs in all of its aspects! the track >red< rumbles out of the speaker with exuding vitality and stubbornness. considerably more lightfooted, the >black< night steps in. closely followed by number 3 >blue<, a track that is floating on a carpet of synths and at the same time goes uncompromisingly for pure rhythm. this whole ep is a series of composition focused on analog machines and taking influences from early 90s raw house. ps: made to be played loud

the next vinyl-only release on candela rising is a 3 track ep from irish duo dara smith & ian mcdonnell, a.k.a lakker. all topped off with a remix of the title track by us born and birmingham based dj skirt. after a string of extremely successful releases on blueprint, killekill and an early 2013 release in the shape of a remix for stroboscopic artefacts, lakker are back and showing more range than ever before. coal bath is a real frankensteins monster of a track, a techno/garage hybrid with haunting vocals hiding through the middle and broken beats that hit hard. skirts remix takes coal bath and lays down some heavy demented bass, chops up the middle and grooves things up. all of which leaves a remix ready for the bunker or warehouse. on the flip, rsspstp is a heavy hitter. distorted bangs set the pace for this one, which evolves into a prime example of the attention to detail lakker are so famed for. machine music at its best. the final track on the ep, brood, is dark and dense, full of cold atmosphere, sub-low beats and distant, distorted drones. techno for the darkest floors ...

dj diamond is 24 year old karlis griffin from the west side of chicago. he has been producing music since the age of 13 and djing since 20, heading the flight muzik clique of footwork producers.
you might recall his two tracks from our >bangs & works vol.1< footwork compilation of last year. in addition he has also released several mix cds in chicago, but this, his first international album showcases his unique style of footwork music.
