hidden fire from the ra archives! a double 10” set featuring sun ra recordings from the outer limits and the underground. initially released on2 seperate 10-s back in 2010/13 respectively and both quickly became collectors items. don t miss them this time around...tip! . volume 1 features ‘along came ra’, was a previously unissued live track recorded in paris in 1983. with june tyson in full voice, the arkestra announce sun ra’s arrival on a sleeping planet. the flip features two previously unreleased cuts from the legendary disco 3000 concert tapes, a mind-blowing quartet session that releases the full power of sun ra’s crumar mainman synth. volume 2 lifts three fine selections from the ultra-deep sub-underground series of saturn lps. the transcendent ballad ‘love is for always’ and the driving, rootsy ‘the world of africa’ come from 1974’s live at temple u, while the myth-science poetics of ‘space is the place/we roam the cosmos’ is beamed down to earth from the 1975 what’s new set.

art yard records continues its voyage into the omniverse of unreleased sun ra tapes with i roam the cosmos – an unreleased, previously unheard 1972 live session recorded at slug’s saloon in new york. limited 180 gram vinyl pressing only with tip on sleeve. check!! fronting a stellar 18-piece incarnation of the arkestra, i roam the cosmos finds sun ra taking us on a poetic journey to the outer limits of planetary awareness. while the captain of the space-ship declaims his message with arkestra vocalist june tyson as co-pilot, the arkestra voyage into the solar centres of esoteric astro-black knowledge aboard a comet-trail jam on ‘discipline 27-ii’. as current arkestra member knoel scott observes in his liner notes, sun ra was a teacher, come down to earth to spread the enlightenment of the ancients and advance the alter-destiny of humankind. this earth was not his home: he was here to wake the sleepers, and to make sure no-one would forget his message. the universe sent him to converse with us, and i roam the cosmos is another unique message from saturn, delivered for tomorrow’s world by art yard records.

while he may have been spotted in gentlemen s dub club amongst other festival friendly acts, as xoa nick tyson is going it alone to create globe-trotting sounds that speak to his musicianship and keen instinct for other kinds of grooves. there are in fact additional vocal spots on this ep including anthony joseph and monika liu, but the record is definitely pulled together by tyson s focused, refined vision. -in so- is a notable delight with its skittering beat and laconic guitar lines. watch out for the b side though, where the tracks get appropriate club revisions. byron the aquarius remix particularly stands out, injecting some broken beat bump into -in so-.

as half of heltah skeltah, 1/8 of the boot camp clik, and with a successful solo career in his own right, sean price (brooklyn, ny) had a cult-like following, releasing critically acclaimed projects such as ‘monkey barz,’ ‘jesus price supastar,’ and ‘mic tyson.’ sadly, sean price passed away in his brooklyn apartment in august of 2015. the entire music community has since been grieving his untimely death, though the release of this 30-track mixtape, now available on vinyl offers an opportunity for fans and friends alike to celebrate the life and career of the storied mc.
