soulquencies is a perfect harmony of deconstructed soundsystem music. beautifully rebuilt with ambient textures, it hints towards grime and steppers while all the time melodious, musical and underpinned with bass weight. it perfectly transcends from clean and heavenly harmonies to bass pressure and grit – icy to warm in a masterful way. this is the first full length album on scrub a dub and we couldn’t be prouder of this piece of music, which is equally at home on a hi-fi or a soundsystem. soulquencies is the brand new album from the artist aquarius, a classically trained musician from tokyo who cut his teeth in the music industry in glasgow in the early noughties. he hosted some of the city’s frst dubstep nights bringing artists like silkie and goth trad, and taking small basement sessions into the bigger clubs, supporting mala at the art school. he played at some of the frst outlook festival parties and was a trusted tour engineer for mungo’s hi fi soundsystem, before returning to tokyo where he distilled his experiences and musical vision into this project.

currently generating some serious heat and momentum amongst dance music aficionados, man power rocks up with a single for futureboogie that further cements the reputation of this rising british producer/dj. the two original tracks are also backed with a remix from ruf dug. alongside his own very excellent me me me label, man power has been delivering diversely epic releases for labels like esp institute, optimo trax, and correspondant. in its original form, barranquilla trifle features rave-lite stabs and deliciously sweeping pads over woody percussion and an omnipresent studry bassline. a dash of acid darkness only energizes the mood, for what must surely be one of the best ‘sunrise moments’ tracks of the year! ruf dug takes barranquilla further on its trajectory towards summertime vibes the sounds of the ocean sea gently breeze over the soca beat, as the ruf kutz main man adds splashes of percussive hits, huge m1 pads, and melodious keys to the party. more 303 business coats kaon from its opening bars, as man power delivers his second original track on the release. an urgent breakbeat and wandering mega-bass soon evolve into thunderous beats and heady synth arpeggios, an almost post-punk funk atmosphere creeps into the bustling yet succinct ambience.

demuja joins the madhouse roster this march with come to me, a four track ep featuring french/australian singer ladybird and a folamour remix of the title track. after various releases on the likes of nervous records, rtct records, and his own label muja, austria’s bernhard weiss aka demuja joins madhouse with some fresh material following last year’s output on house puff and freerange. the release opens with title track come to me, a rough and ready lo-fi number featuring a soulful sample, and blissful stabs of horns and strings. following is the folamour’s lost in eden remix, twisting the original into a balearic, sun-drenched vibe, contrasting the original and bringing a more funk-infused, melodious feel to things. up next is the second original on the release take which employs classic house tropes with a nod to the 90s via catchy horns and a new jersey garage/house beat. free me feat ladybird then closes the package, taking you on a silky smooth house journey, with ladybirds dazzling vocals taking center stage.

the 70s saw a growing interest in so called dub versions, an approach based on deforming, stripping and rebuilding the original tune and came known as dub music. king tubby along with other dub wizards such as, lee perry & prince jammy, were responsible for this exciting new dimension to jamaican music. however, most of these dub albums were pressed in very small quantities and disappeared quickly. one of those albums is dub expression by errol brown and the revolutionaries. no gimmicks on this one, he uses simple echo and delay, a few vocals sliding in and out, separate instruments floating on top, with respect to the melody of the tunes. a mixture of dub and instrumentals. enjoy these super tracks!

reless return to follow up on there first official release which was entitled cycle, out on world talk records that included a bold yet hazy remix from avant techno engineer shlomo.this time their foot firmly in the the mud, is a solid 4 tracks ep entitled, circuitry merging classic techno components which they say focuses on creating analogically modified melodic organisms. the eponymous title track circuitry brings the listener into a field of near moving stabs synths, pulsing through out the persistent motor rhythm. the follow up seed germinates a melodious and deep sequence to sense growth of emotions into the listeners body. reless stand by their motto of always repeating the essential, which can be heard strikingly through out limitation bringing us toward an end of an endlessly metallic grain storage silo. to conclude, the hotly tipped swedish producer kuf (head of arsenik records) pulls apart the harshly stark limitation exploring a rework focusing on the frustrations and jittering nervous pathways of the listener speaking directly to the frontal lobe his job to reside purely at the edge of our mental limitations.

>lost in love< is the first single to be taken from l-vis 1990s forthcoming debut album, neon dreams. continuing a collaborative partnership which began on last years >forever you< single, breakthrough bristol-based vocalist javeon mccarthy once again takes centre stage here. through its melodious analogue synths, infectious vocal hooks and sub-4 minute running length, >lost in love< in many ways serves as the ideal entrée to neon dreams. this is the sound of l-vis 1990 revisiting the routes of his dance music love affair. picking up his own theme from the original—the classic french bassline—l-vis 1990s neon dreams club mix pushes the low-end triumphantly to the fore. club is certainly the operative word here, feel the remixs bangalter-esque bassline drop and your minds eye fixes instinctively upon an undulating dancefloor. the night slugs allstars — l-vis 1990, bok bok, jam city — also take the floor on their version, albeit via the neon-tinged scenic route. much like the label itself, their remix is replete with colour, difficult to define and relentlessly innovative.

weiss blasts off via “brain fever”, where raw, mind-altering arpeggio bass, fuzzy drum machine hits, spacey chords and alien electronics thrust our hero skywards. think of it as techno for funk-fuelled, italo-disco loving astronauts whose journey to the end of the universe is only just underway. this intergalactic funk blueprint is explored further on the deeper and more melodious “you want a cigarette”, where weiss’s vocoder vocals wrap themselves around mutant tb-303 lines, rush-inducing chords and clattering machine percussion. on “space ghetto (booty)”, our hero celebrates the discovery of previously unknown worlds in the only way he knows how. with kaleidoscopic, full-throttle electronic motifs and funk-fuelled synth-bass to the fore, weiss offers his own unique take on electrofunk. pleasingly fuzzy and tightly wrapped in the syncopated drum machine handclaps of ghetto-house, it’s a typically far-sighted and attractive proposition.

saine & smith consists of jaja saine and leo smith. two talented djs/producers from stockholm. both are diaspora kids - jaja saine s background is in west africa and leo s in barbados. so their debut release is a kind of heritage reflection, with twisted elements of decadent scandinavian dance music, which echoes generally in their sound. a. lord vanlig - inspired from afro-caribbean traditional folk music from the 60s. a melodramatic blend of cheer and sorrow. with capturing and repetitive drums combined with a compact kick and sweet overlay of melodious keys and child laughter. b. sir viktig – a deep house banger with haunting ghost like pads, catchy afrobeat samples and vocal snippets.

slam city jams is back with its second release, produced by young brussel based artist kassett. this multi-talented dude not only makes great music, but also does visual arts (look at that amazing fanzine coming with the record) and has his own label & artist collective called midlife. kassett aka gavin vanælst isn’t about genres, but about emotions when it comes to his music. however, asking him what he would call the sound he makes, his simple answer is: rave ambient. the all i feel 1 million ep‘ is a record full of diversity. it reaches from emotional and dreamy, arp-based ambient tracks with rave and trance references, to broken beats, weird synth solos, up to a rough but melodious techno tune. finally the cherry on top of this special ep, is a remix by lobster theremin regular imre kiss. he delivered a dark and dubby version of the a2, that sounds like it was recorded underwater.

london producer bxentric releases his latest ep sakura fall . this is the third release from his own label nanda records, following the well-received patch valley and chrome eps. prior to launching his own label, bxentric released on eskimo recordings and glasgow underground. in november 2015 patch valley was included in maceo plex s essential mix for radio 1 and was supported by the likes of barnt, job jobse and bicep.

in ancient greek mythology, olympos was the living place of the twelve olympian gods and has inspired our limited series record label under the same name. olympos, will release a series of eps , with the figure of an olympian god, from various artists which will remain unannounced until the project is complete. kicking off the series is hephaestus, the god of fire and metal. dounai and lavein is an ancient greek phrase meaning give and take. a-side features lavein which is a broken beat, glitched up number, with a rather metallic timbre. resonances, filters, drums and arpeggiators arranged and programmed in style, resulting in a modern electronic piece with plenty of quirky, edgy vibes. on the flip side dounai is a melodious, esoteric and slow moving late night /after-hours affair, which expands slowly and steadily over a beautiful chord progression of lush strings and sparkling pads. a steady punctuated beat rolls smoothly throughout the track, completing this ep in a misty, hypnotizing and charming fashion. one copy per customer .

quanta records’ third release, correspondances, is a mini lp by aeon that combines experimental techno, ambient and musique concrète elements. the tracks of the album communicate through similar sounds, noises and rhythmic patterns, but while atmospheres diverge, there is a constant exchange from cold and industrial to solar and melodious so as to form a complex and balanced ensemble.
aeon’s has placed randomness at the centre of his creative process. computing and random programming have allowed the artist to explore new structures and to no longer simply consider a glitch as an error, but rather as a primal source of novel sound.

few can fail to have noticed the re-emergence of italian deep house in recent times. tracks paying tribute to the dreamy, loved-up and new age-influenced style pioneered by italian producers in the late 80s and early 90s are ten-a-penny these days, though few are quite as breezy and evocative as this ep from minimono. the fact that it s appearing on re-born rome label vibraphone - dormant since 1993, but brought back to life late last year - is rather fitting. the duo s dreamy, melodious and tactile style - see the fluttering synthesized flute lines and tactile grooves of -sailing-, the horizontal house bliss of -suspend-, and the ron trent style slickness of -next step- - is perfectly in keeping with the label s wavy, sun-kissed ethos.

jeremiah r has been responsible for some of the finest electro to be released over the past few years, with his mini albums for tabernacle records being particularly potent. here he launches the distant wave label with eight more chunks of atmospheric, far-sighted futurism. as usual, he flits between ambient style interludes and more expansive dancefloor fare. in the latter category you ll find the motor city techno futurism of -bermuda triangle-, the glistening idm loveliness of -streaming to arcadia-, the larry heard-in-space deepness of -cruiser-, and the drexciyan throb of -jar (jamming avoidance response)-. all are, naturally, both luscious and pleasingly melodious, whilst retaining an intergalactic sense of atmosphere.
