music is nice f/k/a fantasy f/k/a snippets (of life, love & everything in between). produced in 2013, but shelved by the label. now finally out through omena. one could argue that these tracks mark the beginning of a creative journey for hnny. it s a brilliant parade of wonderful beats and melodies and a glimpse into the producer s musical thought process. for every track that delivers the expected, the next one does something quite extraordinary.

der mitgründer des labels atomnation, pascal terstappen, präsentiert mit -for- den bereits vierten longplayer seines projekts applescal - und erfindet dessen sound gleich mal neu. hörte man sich terstappens output aus den vergangenen jahren an, so lernte man seine sorgfältig gebauten tracks und remixes schätzen, in denen verspielte percussion-strukturen und außerweltliche melodien in kompositionen mit einfließen, die sich irgendwo zwischen sofa und dancefloor bewegen. applescals voriges album -dreaming in key- bekam großes presselob und wurde von djs wie gilles peterson, laurent garnier und daniel avery gespielt. -for- klingt ähnlich unbekümmert, dennoch wagt sich der niederländer hier in tiefere gefilde. tracks wie -like you do-, -matter- und -overseas- tragen dieselbe handschrift träumerischer synthesizers und prickelnder grooves, ansonsten klingt die soundpalette reifer und selbstbewusster.

with his last ep offering on keinemusik, &me displayed himself once again as supplier of anthems that easily reconcile style with general floor purpose. you would think, such an universal and inexhaustible tune as this very “after dark” can only be a lucky hit. but no, he’s knocking out the classic material just like that. another example? catalog number km028, his brandnew “trilogy” ep. the titletrack on a initially places a synth arpeggio behind a kick that in dryness is hardly to excel. the beat of -trilogy- is then seasoned with rimshot patterns until the saturated bassdrum comes in and paves the way to the dancefloor. &me even refines his knack for stoic grooves on this jam and once again shows his sure feeling for suitable vocal features. sabotas croon comes devoid of big gestures and still knows the ropes to appeal to the collective mentality of a clubcrowd. on the flipside, “woods” is living up to its name from the very beginning. woody percussions are thumping within an almost subtropical scenario that’s frequently pervaded by mighty synth clouds. and once again, there’s an arpeggio sneaking in that at some point is taking the lead in this strictly instrumental affair. add a break building that will educe a floor’s complete euphoric potential without going for the rather mindless escalation and there you have it: a b-side that’s actually more of an a-competitor.

tm404 is a new concept from analogue mastermind andreas tilliander aka mokira (kontra-musik, raster-noton, type). tm404 uses a multiple set up of the classic roland machines tb-303, tb-606 and mc-202 to create a mesmerizing acidic techno-drone. tm404 will release a full-length album on kontra-musik in late january and we are very much looking forward. but before that we have another great release to present. kontra-musik 028 is by far our most radical release on so far. this is dance music really pushed the limit. what you are about to hear is the result of morphosis (morphine records) remixing tm404 using his favorite korg machines – the ms20 and the sq10. rabihs own words on the music: quite challenging and not really ordinary dance music. i believe in moving forward with things, with whatever chances and possibilities i have, it is my contribution to this world.
