harlem s legendary disco label queen constance has long been a cult favourite among fans of underground dance music for decades. one of many labels operating under the equally legendary p&p family of imprints queen constance was operated by one peter brown, a truly colossal figure in nyc s music scene, it s catalogue still fascinates music lovers to this day. covering a wide range of styles including gospel, early rap and disco the label s output continually finds it way into the playlists of respected dj s and selectors across the globe. high fidelity will be the first in a series of queen constance rarities to be reissued, an extremely rare and coveted record that can change hands on the second hand market for big big money, avoid those low rent bootlegs that are out there and cop this fully licensed repress. the group s self-titled sole long-player is a fantastic 6 track set of gritty, soulful and uplifting funky disco with a diy edge. not too much is known about the artists themselves, or even when the record was performed, recorded or released but it certainly sounds like a group who knew their craft inside out. the energy is high across the record and the group sound like they re on fire, just check the outrageously funkified magic carpet and you ll see what we mean. amazing. the whole project has that enchanting lo-fi, back-street feel to it in terms of production and the mind boggles as to how such a record would have come off had it been recorded at a motown or any other big studio, but no matter as this release is perfect the way it is, an essential piece of street-level nyc disco straight from the underground.

special request joins forces with nina kraviz and anastasia kristensen, shattering the doors of perception over a four-track ep. through the looking glass drops july 20th on houndstooth. on the a side, nina kraviz provides two interpretations of curtain twitcher. alice was here remix takes the intensity of the original and boils it into a 4/4 spin of frenzied basslines and distorted acoustics, punctuated by her languid reading of the mad hatter. for the samba version, syncopated polyrhythms take charge of a fragmented melody. opening the aa side, looking glass lures you down the rabbit hole with mysterious bleeps, only to reveal a whirlwind of stormy breaks and junglist percussion. closing off the trip, anastasia kristensens remix of tiresias marches its way through a field of swollen bass and glitchy percussion.

tatu metsätähti and tatu peltonen formed their electro duo mr velcro fastener in the small town of turku, finland back in 1995. in 1999, after a couple of twelve inches, they released their first full length album �lucky bastards living up north� on i220, which was well noted (not only for its hyper colourful cover art by the designers republic). the album took the duo touring in europe and overseas, and led to further releases on labels like stars-music, ali b�s air recordings, solina records, cyber dance and of course billy nasty�s electrix, as well as remixes for the likes of hardfloor, marco carola, dk8, transparent sound and aux88. returning to electrix with their third full ep for the label (and a gap of 13 years!) they have delivered their own unique and recognizable electro sound with two new cuts. �a monster in two worlds� with its electro-funk sound, classic vocoded vocals and grinding groove is a perfect opener, while �bakteriofag� (bacteriophage in english) like its name, creeps up like a virus, infecting the senses with its crisp and shining melody. additionally, there�s remixes of �a monster in two worlds� from silicon scally (carl finlow in his electro guise) and m-twelve (the new moniker recently launched by billy nasty and surface�s nick dunton) to complete the line-up.

reissue of balearic gem spanglish movement from little known band hot pepper! originally released as a private pressing in 1978 and featuring famous drummer jesus munoz tilico, a giant musician who appeared on countless recordings and accompanied famous figures like paul mauriat and carl tjader among many others. four superb long tracks including the cosmic underground club classic ritual song. hot pepper was a studio project created by mexican drummer / producer /arranger jesus munoz tilico who in the late 70s decided to record an album in a disco-funk vein, helped by some of his friends who were top session musicians. �spanglish movement� was the result, written and produced by �tilico�, released in 1978 as a tiny private edition housed in a fabulous afro cover. being tilico an enormous drummer, you can expect here lots of heavy drums, congas and percussion, surrounded by crazy space synths, male-female vocals, latin horns, afro touches and occasional fuzz guitar.

second proper studio album originally released in 1976 by the king of turkish psych/anatolian rock. recorded in belgium with help from session musicians related to placebo, janko nilovic and mad unity among others, nick the chopper features lyrics in english, huge orchestral sections, and re-arrangements of many of the melodies from his masterpiece 2023. bar&#305,&#351, spent his whole life trying to communicate to the wider world outside turkey. this was his last attempt at doing so with an album before turning to a travel television show to visit faraway places and talk to the young and old, one on one. every production trick of the glorious 1970s was deployed to push bar&#305,&#351, up the european charts, and now they can push him right into your brain instead.

mika vainio and franck vigroux�s peau froide, le&#769,,,,ger soleil was a dense and complex record, a collection of sonic sculptures forged in the heavy tonal matter. it was the product of a lengthy creative process, articulated through studio sessions and live performances. the result was a huge amount of material that the duo actually decided to partition into more than one release, the album being the first in line. the new 6-tracker ep ignis makes for the first posthumous release from the two producers, after the untimely passing of vainio in 2017.

benjamin vigneron, also known as vronsky, was born in 1991 in aix-en-provence, france. as a teenager, drawn simultaneously to visual arts, cinema and music production, he made his first contact with techno by working for a local club as a graphic designer. during his 20s, while living between montreal, canada and marseille, france, it was revealed to benjamin he suffered from a heavy bipolar disorder. as a reaction, he started losing himself in free parties and increasingly dangerous habits. gradually learning to love himself despite his flaws, he kicked his risk-taking after he realized the love of music prevailed over anything else. equipped with a strong desire to share his vision despite not being able to perform as a dj, benjamin started a youtube channel and a collective named listening blue.

in the studio prototype 909 was a group that rarely agreed on a clear idea of exactly what they were trying to accomplish. the entire project was an experiment, and every time they hit record there was nothing better for them to do than to just try stuff. whenever it came time to put together an album they would go through what they had recently done and nd the tracks that seemed to fit together well, or that at least sounded like they were made by the same group. that left on the cutting room foor some really amazing worst that somehow just didnt fit their goals at the time. at schmer, we remember. p-909 leftovers have schmer written all over them. these four tracks were all recorded live in the studio in between their three studio albums 93-97. brenecki ( half of ontal ) provided his remix inspired by one of them. hyperdrive and -datafash- were recorded shortly after acid technology was released in 93. they come from the -lets make acid technology vol 2 approach-. that would have made a really cool record had they done it but they decided on making transistor rhythm instead. anoisenyc aka the tracs that dietrich hates is what you get when you let jason go nuts on a doepfer maq-16 ( they never made that mistake again ). bobo is possibly the most prototypical p-909 tracks ever: it took three guys making their own tracks simultaneously almost ignoring what the others were doing but somehow mixing them into a flow to make this one, but it all comes together nicely in the end. its amazing that they never released it before. you ve enjoyed the wait, now enjoy your new prototype 909 while it still is new!

the 6th release of ville nouvelle, music for five post cards brings together five artists from across the globe, both old and new to the label. the compilation materialises as a musical ballad, 40 minutes long, and evoking feelings of travel and the contemplation of nature. in the continuity of ville nouvelle�s exploration of music and graphic design, each track is transformed into a respective postcard by the french artist alexis jamet, who was given carte blanche for this exercise. the project appears as a personal mosaic of evocations reflecting both in image and music a kind of international feeling.

a matter of time is the follow-up to protoje�s critically acclaimed 2015 full-length, ancient future, which featured the hit single �who knows� ft chronixx, which has garnered over 69 million views on youtube & 5.9 million soundcloud streams. a matter of time features chronixx and mortimer, and contains the smash hit singles �blood money�, �truth & rights�, �bout noon� and �no guarantees�. �a matter of time� was produced by winta james (damian marley, anthony b, the mighty diamonds) and recorded in jamaica.

for our next excursion, we�re off to the library. in search of library records that is - you know the type, the crazy rare records used for soundtracks and such and such. we have a sick selection of synthed-up beats and pieces chopped together by one earl jeffers, making the most out of his international library digging card* (*not a real thing).
for those that don�t know, cardiff�s earl jeffers is one half of darkhouse family, regular family at our sister label, first word, on which they released their debut album �the offering� late last year. earl is a prolific producer in his own right, also releasing over the years under the aliases chesus and metabeats on labels like mcde, fat city and local talk, collaborating with artists like byron the aquarius, action bronson and kamaal williams / henry wu, turning his hand ably to house, hip hop, jungle, jazz and more. all this in addition to running his own label, mélange records.
a dedicated digger and record collector first and foremost, earl has provided us with a quadruple set of heavyweight stuttery sci-fi boom bap. in earl�s words: �this record was mostly inspired by my penchant for the more electronic / synthesized jams, mostly replayed from the original compositions then thrust in to 2028 and beyond�.�

in the era of the brand, kutiman is an anomaly. a musician who�s a video artist who�s a producer who�s an animator who�s also the unwilling star of one of israel�s most successful recent documentaries, his every record contrasts with whatever it was that came before. but that�s fundamental to his appeal: no one, not even him, really knows what to expect next. unsurprisingly, therefore, �don�t hold onto the clouds� is no different, which means it�s like nothing he�s ever done. most artists would acknowledge this by working under pseudonyms, but kutiman is � yes, you�ve guessed it � different again. �if i changed my name every time i wanted to do something new,� he laughs, �i think i�d have too many names!�
