northsouth records invite emergent talents chris geschwinder and henry hyde to whip up some dazzling peak time house fare, with each artist presenting themselves across two tracks. geschwinder is up first with the charging modern axis of evil, matching the haunting purr of the lead synths with an insistent kick and clap combo that can t be argued with. hes no slouch on in 2 either, getting into a subtly lopsided and seriously swinging spot that its hard to wriggle out of. henry hyde too seems to have a focused vision for what they create, fusing the pops and wobbles of minimal and matching it with the overall bulbous nature of the music on northsouth.

solar phenomena are keeping up a busy and high quality release rate in 2018 with a fifth offering already. this one is a three tracker from stl, who already released his �if time would move backwards� ep on the label earlier in the year. the title track opens the account with blown out drums trudging along in ever changing patterns. swirling, lo-fi ambience adds scale to the track and encourages you to get lost in the middle of it all. �weed detective� is ten minutes of psyched-out and stripped back drum work at an inviting mid tempo. keys dance and heavily treated vocal sounds trip you out in slow motion. last of all, �scubbu babe� has finger clicks, bright and mild crazed keys and ad libbed vocal sounds all doing gymnastics round more of those trademark drums. once again, stl proves he operates in a world of his own.

the mar-keys is the first house band from the label stax records. during the 60�s they recorded many songs and with their first single �last night� they made it to the top of the us charts. years after this massive success they released the album �the great memphis sound�, with the support of artists like isaac hayes and booker t. jones. guitarist steve cropper shows his skills in the jazz and soul sound from the music on the album. the instrumental tracks including song classics like �the girl from ipanema�, �in the mood� and �philly dog�.
the group started in the late 50�s as the royal spades and became known as the band where a lot of musical talents marked their first step in the industry. as a backing band they worked together with artists like otis redding, wilson pickett and carla thomas.

naif 009 is the second in a series of five eps that are released around the release of the dj-mix-cd also named naif which has its release in april 2018 the second strike comes with two superstrong techno tracks: lean forward is a contribution by nihad tule that wil burn the dancefloors. followed by not now, not yet, a scratchy track from the hands of one half of cassegrain: rhyw. side b heads into trippy territories with a heady, sparse but seductive groove by marco shuttle followed by a track from efdemin in a collaboration with his close friend and fellow konrad sprenger (pan) after more then three years of silence as a producer, efdemin a.k.a phillip sollmann returns with a striking hybrid concept that merges the album format with the continuous dj mix format, presenting completely new material in a seamless manner. the cd-mix, named naïf, officially reinstates his label of the same name and is a sprawling tour of inner space featuring 19 distinct tracks from fellow producers along with an additional ten that feature efdemin himself (either as soloist or collaborator). the release condenses his decade-long dj-ing journey and evolution as a producer into a single potent elixir of contemporary techno. naif consists of completely unreleased material from both himself and valued collaborators, all of which will eventually manifest as ep releases: five on his own naif label and two more on curle.
