thule records camp is hitting it hard these days. this time its a collaboration between two pioneers within the icelandic techno scene. on the a-side, we have static, a hypnotic groove with indistinguishable voices and shimmering dub chords, and Útkall, minimalistic dub techno mantra. on the flipside we have the heavily-rhythmic sedna, where the drums and bass compliment each other in such a way that it might cause involuntary muscle movements, and at last timelaps, a delicate minimalistic voyage. ohm is best known for his releases on force inc with exos. octal industries, a veteran who has already gained a respectable reputation within the idm community under his ruxpin pseudonym, returns to his origins with this collaboration. thule records is considered by many to be a pioneer in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of icelands most renowned electronic musicians.

alek s offers up another dose of pensive techno vibes in his paradise lost ep. side a opens up with bold, a slice of laid back while still pounding techno, boasting zippy synths with an unmistakable analog flavour. its closely followed by andres zaccos rework of honey wheat, an apt reconstruction of the original thats aimed squarely at the dancefloor. the argentinian producer and recent ilian tape alumni dives in with a powerful groove, cutting its way through a suspended atmosphere full of spaced out sounds. over on the b-side were greeted with paradise lost, a slow-paced melody that gradually shifts into a dreamy groove filled with spaced out drums and abstract delays. last but not least, the original version of honey wheat is a somewhat atmospheric, yet functional floor warmer that fits a resigned groove.

manchester native alex coulton has nurtured a reputation for creating sub-heavy rollers thanks to 12s for the likes of black acre, livity sound and bloc. with gamma ray burst, the next in his series of releases on london low-end specialists tempa, coulton consolidates his sound to deliver some of the most sparse, rhythmic work of his career. with the records title track, coulton weaves from hard-hitting kicks, through to dizzying tribal polyrhythms the whole time maintaining a minimal, space driven atmosphere that remains omnipresent throughout the tracks most intense moments. ground zero revels in its spaciousness, allowing reverb to flood into the negative space between flashes of heavyweight techno percussion and saturated ripples of synth while the pulsating kicks that underpin alpha decay are punctuated with bleak, discordant bells, rhythmic bass hits and hypnotic filtered percussion. showing his diverse abilities, phase two is an exercise in measured restraint, as a cacophony of clicks and hisses come together to disorientate before forming a driving rhythm section before coulton maximises his expansive elements on the fog-tinged ascent. closing with the steady flowing, brighter-hued melodic work of distant resonance, alex coulton has created a masterful collection of experimental tech-focused electronica that bewilders, intrigues and will draw the listener in with each play.

hicago, 1991. the house jam records go from strength to strength, having already released a slew of influential and classic records from 1987 onwards, the duo of larry thompson and rick lenoir are making their impression felt on the dance music scene not only in their own city, but on a worldwide scale. enter tikkle, another undercover pseudonym used by the pair for their own special brand of deep house tracks. -outer limits- was the first release using this name and is an essential ep of midwestern machine grooves. the tracks have that rough, basement vibe with a healthy dose of deep, melodic qualities thrown in, the track -outer limits- for example, has a sophisticated almost jazz like vibe that wouldn t sound out of place on an early ur release! the second track on the ep -in the beginning...- is a driving cut based around mach s legendary -on & on- (often cited as one of the -first- house tracks!) with thompson and lenoir adding some dope keys, strings and extra drum machines all with that trademark lnr swing. -holding on- is a stripped back, percussion led, heads down kinda jam... the kind of track to make dance-floors sweat, solid stuff indeed! the whole ep has been reissued as it was originally released in 1991, with all original house jam label artwork intact. for this special 2016 pressing rick lenoir dug in his vault of reel to reel tapes and excavated a long lost tikkle track that has never been released..... until now - -my mood (rick s cosmic mix edit)- is the closing track of the ep and is a fresh, 24 year old acid track with ocean deep pads - what a discovery, and one that will undoubtedly excite house heads! this track is exclusive to this repress! all audio has been lifted from rick lenoir s private collection of reel to reel tapes from his basement and remastered accordingly. this reissue has been realised with the full involvement of thompson & lenoir and is 100% legit

moscow records close 2016 with a fantastic 3-track ep from berlin imports roustam and tolga fidan. this being their first outing together, the pair deliver a high quality, intelligent journey through minimal house and techno. the record opens with brodsky beat, a groovy, dance floor-focused track. lively percussion and tight bass communicate perfectly with the hope-filled lead to build tension throughout. the omega variant on the a2 has a much more abstract feel. broken beats and skippy percussion play back and forth with deep, spacey hooks and a peculiar synth, giving the listener a sense of mystery. finally, growing up is just a phase is a calming 14 minute trip that uses the entirety of the b side to tell a story of reassurance and calm. laid-back rhythms, guitar samples, relaxed vocals and a wandering synth line work together to form the perfect warmup track.

motion (newcastle) co-founder and resident richie steedman makes his debut on jamie jones hottrax imprint with three groove-centered productions this november. a key component in the north of englands electronic music scene, steedman has had a deep-rooted passion for house and techno since becoming au fait with a pair of turntables at merely 12 years old. since then the british dj launched newcastles motion event series back in 2010, where hes a resident alongside fellow hottrax producer patrick topping. he now joins a roster spanning the likes of yousef, harry romero, waff, mat.joe and more. echoing chopped vocals, crunchy percussion and a meandering bassline form the basis of stitcher before undulating drums join a medley of squelches, pops and whirrs in chance it. concluding the package, slip incorporates infectious open hi-hats and a stuttering vox for a moody and mesmerising finale.

auf ulrich schnauss 5tem studio-album no further ahead than today regieren einmal mehr die elektronisch eingespielten ambient-pop-hymnen, die längst zu seinem markenzeichen geworden sind. diese sollten fans von künstlern wie jon hopkins und brian eno interessieren. schnauss selbst ist umtriebig - seit 2014 ist er keyboarder bei tangerine dream, produziert unter eigenem namen remixes für pop-künstler wie depeche mode, pet shop boys, todd terje und bryan ferry und hat gerade für die decca-compilation re:works bachs prelude in c neu in szene gesetzt.
no further ahead than today ist klar mehr pop als ambient. starke melodien stehen im vordergrund, die stücke sind mit rhythmen unterlegt, zuweilen gar mit gesang begleitet, eine hymnische note ist immer präsent. spätestens seit seinen beiden solo-alben, die bei dem deutschen label city center offices erschienen, gilt schnauss als ein elektroniker, der manche tugenden des britischen indie-shoegaze-sounds auf seine klangvorstellungen überträgt.
