silent dust is the project of uk duo dan blishen (originally from manchester) and andy hobbs (hailing from kent), who produced drum & bass together for years under the respective monikers zyon base and hobzee. their self-titled debut,silent dust,brings their signature d&b sound into a different light, drawing from a wide range of influences - ambient, drum & bass, garage, dub, breakbeat and soundtracks. the result is a collection of deep, bass-laden productions that sound like absolutely nothing else, filled with lush arrangements, an array of found sounds (footsteps, vinyl crackle, sellotape stretching), cinematic vocal samples and glitchy, idiosyncratic drum programming. the album travels through a wide range of emotions and sounds - from the sublime intensity of the giant (equipped with floating operatic samples and tight drum programming) and the dark atmospheric grace of marlowe, to the weighted basslines of the club-suited zero nine zero and the sheer beauty of winter song lined with strings and a reggae-tinted vocal. though its driven by experimentation, this is a d&b record at heart: even the ambient tracks were written at 160-170 bpm. their debut album was originally signed to soul:r, but was pulled at the last minute: the duo bravely opted to start their own label, none60, to release their tour de force.silent dust is a downtempo, atmospheric album that will become an instant favourite for open minds, and for those who seek something new. one of the most unique records to come out of d&b this decade.

this latest release by the ever impressive trunk records consists of two jazz recordings from 1964. the first four tracks, credited to west indian trumpeter shake keane, are taken from an unreleased acetate belonging to garricks private collection. the final four tracks consist of the shake keane & michael garrick quartettes a case of jazz ep that had a limited pressing of just 99 copies. much like trunks earlier michael garrick release moonscape (which was recorded in the same year), this is indeed obscure 1960s uk jazz. the first four cuts from the untitled acetate are very much jazz of the bossa nova variety. the hastings girls choir feature on the first two tracks and their lush vocals add a cool exotic vibe. tracks 3 & 4 are taken from the flipside of the acetate and were recorded with the gordon langford orchestra. the final four tracks from the a case of jazz ep are freer flowing and keanes trumpeting accompanied by garricks piano makes for some quality early modern british jazz. moody album closer regrets is a stunner and best showcases how well they both compliment each other.

mysteryland takes place saturday august 27th at the beautiful fields from floriade. with a total of 18 areas mysteryland can be considered as the largest dance festival in the netherlands. the mother of all dance festivals is still leading after more than seventeen years! this mixed double album gives a good reflection of the music and line-up of this year s edition. where cd1 contains the more popular dance styles, big name artists and club hits, cd2 takes you to the more underground and edgy side of the festival. so whatever your taste is , this mixed compilation gives you a little piece of mysteryland 2011 not to forget.

gits album -imagination- could be described as an experimental design with roots in underground hip hop. gits musical style may be hard to pin point. his love of drums set the foundation for his sound: driving, percussion heavy productions anchored in traditional hip hop, with an experimental streak. his sound has many flavours and is not to be boxed in one label. one of the goals of this album is to fill the void that pop music has left. -imagination- will remind us that talent and emotion can still be found in music today and one not always needs a million dollar budget to make good music. if you like music that is raw, pure and speaks from the heart then you will love this project.

gem club is an exclusive society: two people, a piano, and a cello. vocalist christopher barnes sings in a quivering whisper, and these minimal accompaniments assure that their sound never becomes louder than a hush. but the massachusetts duo s debut ep, acid and everything, showed just how much emotional intensity you could pack into compositions so spare, and how much could be suggested with so little. everything on breakers, their first full-length, sounds frozen over: icy, quiet, austere. you know that eerie feeling when you find yourself alone in a huge public place that s usually crowded-- maybe a shopping mall or a playing field- but at that moment is totally empty? this record sounds like a sustained version of that feeling. -i heard the party- juxtaposes echoing piano chords and a general sense of unease (-no one could have told you / your body would fail you-) with the refrain -i heard the partys here- floating across the track like the sound of dried up laughter. the word -party- feels so out of place in a song so pensive and lonely that there s something jarring about the experience. the feeling crops up repeatedly on breakers: a sense of slow-motion detachment, a suggestion that there were signs of life here once, but you ve arrived a couple of hours- or maybe a couple of weeks- too late.

pulp disco & the outcasts - overnight to dusseldorf is the latest release on ashley beedles out hear audio imprint. put together in it s original sublime whoozy electronic form it was passed to mr. beedle who then took up the space baton with his studio partner darren morris to create the kommune mixes. with a nod to can, talking heads and some raucous psychedelic punk funk, the boys have whipped up two dancefloor killers that compliment the kosmische referencing original.

the aliens return with another anthem. there has been a lot of speculation as to who these bad men are, with most guesses being people who have released on the ssds label or other south londoners. some of the main guesses have been kromestar, coki, cotti, f-1, n-type, and kosha, but i am not convinced anyone actually knows who is in it.

the history clock is most certainly alive and ticking with this incredible release from argentinian duo, djs pareja. you may be familiar with some early tracks that they have done for matias aguayos peerless comeme label (their excellent ghetto rhythms, kenia and tribal scream), and this is a perfect follow-up. >psycho rhythm<, the appropriately-titled lead track is a brilliant, mid-tempo, mildly-disturbed outsider house / ebm-shocker, coupled with the absolutely perfect roska / uk funky-esque, tropical rhythm of >pampa room<. a track that joins the dots between the bumbumbox parties of buenos aires, the boiler room nights in london and the boxes of the more forward-thinking djs on rinse fm. balearic music fans will immediately fall in love with >spanish is beautiful< - in both original and alejandro paz (comeme / huntleys & palmers) remix formats.

after a handful of smashing remixes and compilation features on nang records, lusty zanzibar returns to the fold with a cracking solo effort named the >the feeling ep.< title track is a spaced out exercise in immersive square-wave programming, reminiscent of the pre-internet computer gaming age when colours were 8-bit and vivid, and soundtracks were hyper-colour opuses. the complex synth work is underpinned by a driving beat with ethereal vocal wisps and crystalline pads. nice. the first of three remixes for >the feeling< comes from ilya santana, with his >celestial version<, and celestial it is indeed! a picturesque scene is set, the rhythm is wound back and a super laid back vibe allows the vocal line >remember how you are feeling< to sit more purposefully in the mix, alongside the tip-toeing bass line and often euphoric chords. up next comes the max essa dub version, introducing some arp-synth subtleties, replacing the main vocal hook to great effect. to finish we have a mix from fear of theydon who brings a touch of arpeggiated femininity and tasteful woodblock percussion to the table. its a fulfilling yet sultry up-beat journey.

juan jose diaz-known in the world of music as kung, is a producer of drum and bass and dubstep born in granada (spain) he has a string of dnb releases on labels as ammunition recs. (usa), melting pot (spain), suspect device, c2d (uk), black seeds (italy) and citrus (netherlands). his drum n bass releases receive good acceptance by the public and also from some major producers like misanthrop, jade, billain, and axiom to name a few. for lime dubs, kung shows his multiple talent as a dubstep producer as well. his sound is happy and dubby, hard to put in a box. its got influences from all over, from minimal techno house to his extreme bass and breaks editing.

edit king leo zero returns with something very special to kick off a new run of no frills dancefloor bombs that have been tried and tested over the summer on a packed worldwide dj schedule from stockholm to tokyo and beyond. first up is an intensive slice and dice exercise on probably the best track from definitely the best band in the world: the clash. leo takes their most disco friendly outing >the maginificent dance< famously spun by mr levan at the garage - and with the more dubby rare levan version he homes in on looped 1 bar sections, skating along to create a new arrangement - added to the brew are bootleg recordings form the clashes infamous live show at nycs bonds ballroom, and even some baseline demos digitally siphoned from people practicing guitar along to the clash on youtube!….. we are left with is an epic labour of love edit that has already found its way into the a-listers record boxes - from derrick carter to laurent garnier who are all spinning this solid as a rock dub disco bomb. on the flip we have a classy house re-work of al hudson & partners >music< which sticks a chi-town kick and snare up its rear end along with some serious sub bass, and in the middle things get all wobbly with some trademark leo zero space echo rides and before we are quickly warped back-in and onto the floor… big with a load of top jocks too including severino of horse meat disco fame.

mrk1 is back with some vocal dubstep bangers featuring the vocal talents of doctor who has previously worked with the likes of cotti and others in the grime world. these tunes are set to blow speakers worldwide, dont sleep on these anthem stylee!

stefan schutz aka juno6 belongs to the society of the leipzig new school, which for the last 5 years has cut a path through emotions and change in diverse regions. his particular real estate is comfortably between deeper house and thoroughly scrutinized techno. sometimes he tends in one direction, at other times the opposite. all the while juno6 captivates both listeners and dancers alike with something new. his live sets are always an occasion – sound expeditions in the most literal sense embedded powerfully, yet imminently fresh as they are bound to tradition. he even dials up the the ambient/electronic field with project beautiful planet earth, or together with friend daniel stefanik as sensual. the sonic awareness of juno6 is expressed consistently as a potent degree of warmth, which paints a distinct lively and long-lasting tone on club music. the tone is hardly useful as a flavor of the month, but rather, a music with stamina and character. his track >guununk< is for more than a few the quiescent highlight of the fat 5zig compilation. on his second from fat, he displays the juno6 portfolio fully and expands his present effect with a portion of funkiness and a sprinkle of pop – at least on one of the cuts. with clever vocals mr. schulz informs us yet again.

ex-harry pussy guitarist bill orcutt s 2009 side a new way to pay old debts was an instant classic for those attuned to his brand of stomach-scrapingly raw, hoary blues improvisation. few could have expected the album to be subsequently issued on cd by editions mego, but the more you thought about it the more it made sense - though all-acoustic, orcutt s music is every bit as extreme, violent and threshold-testing as that of, say, florian hecker, russell haswell or mika vainio. as if to prove it wasn t a token gesture towards eclecticism, mego boss peter rehberg has signed a brand new album from orcutt, and what an album it is. for the most part it s in that visceral, coruscating style that he s best known for, all finger-bleeding fretboard assaults that manage to sound at once virtuoso and completely out-of-control, reaching a psychotic climax on the visible bosom: but there are some more reflective passages too, hell, the title track might even be the most chilled thing he s ever recorded. the album was cut at d+m in berlin, which really teases every last drop of blood, sweat and tears out of the recording, which took place at orcutt s home studio in san francisco in spring of 2011. brutal, bludgeoning but incurably romantic, how the thing sings demands your steadfast attention. mind-blowing.

john daly continues his search for the beauty on house music. his own one track records label delivers number 6. and its another stunning release with an amazing emotive house track in the vein of larry heard and some early chicago masters that been exploring the more fragile side of house music. john delivers tracks that are emotive yet strong and even some jacking vibes in it and a fierce bassline that keeps the pressure on. the chant comes in two parts and are among the most beautiful tracks we ve heard in a while... part 1 is the original version with full on vocal chants, where part two is a sort of dub mix with amazing melodies. another stunner by mr john daly.

the us born and berlin based walker barnard created a unique ep drawing from his years of experience and studio work with sounds as diverse as hip-hop and minimal techno. featuring the legendary us poet and producer mike ladd and a remix from our good friend iron curtis, the result is something completely different and yet strangely familiar.

so we went predominanlty stateside for our last outing, and decided to bring things back home this time. hoya003 is a strictly uk affair. opening up on the a-side is one of rudest producers and djs the uk has going for it. this aint a comment on her manners though, they are as impeccable as her production. after ikonika sent us a zip of some hoya potentials, we just knew >fleas< had to be the one featured on this 12 inch. a more sinister, rolling, emotional jam, it still packs as much as punch as ikonikas dj sets. kicking off the b-side is the homie om unit. now, this guy … this guy. are there any superlatives left to desribe his sonic masterpieces that have rocked too many dancefloors and had as many producers scratching their heads and re-assessing their mix-downs? an instant favourite, >fibonnaci 10< was one of the earliest cuts lined up for a release and when you listen you will see why. this guy. seriously. bringing things to a close, we hand over to one of our favourites from the flourishing cardiff scene. why doesnt monky have more music out? is one of those questions that has been asked too many times for our liking. so much so, we may have to take it upon ourselves to change that. but, for now, just enjoy >hipster<. a killer synth-laden nod to early ukg, but looking forward as opposed to sideways. enjoy.

its been a long wait but finally 501 returns with yet another bigtime 12inch that will roll out punches even more than mike tyson! fresh off his release from never say die sees 501 twisting it differently this time.. >gist< is a vocal infused stomper that opens the 12inch perfectly and sees 501 leaning into a swagger tip. it flows, it rocks, it jumps its everything in 1. it shows a different side to the standard 501 sound and shows he can bend any way he would like to. you can hear that in the b side >borderline< where he exchanges the sweet vocals of gist for a psychotic quote and the swagger lean for some ear shattering kicks & snares. hear borderline destroy your eardrums like the good old days with some sub! nothing beats the old fashioned heavyweight sound! another essential 501 record!

deep space orchestra having been forging a nice niche in a modern take on house music, blending, disco, detroit and chicago influences , and here at tracky bottoms, we cottoned on to one of there deepest tracks to date mass illusion about a year ago now ! its taken a while to come to fruition , but the stolen future ep is here . mass illusion it self is probably the track gaining most interest , probably because it has achieved the difficult task of being very deep but also quite anthemic , also featuring on the ep - stolen future harks back to early carl craig vibes , with a ruff ass beat driving the synthy techno , theres a remix of this from label boss toby tobias who takes it in a more loopy chicago vibe and last track witch doctor has ethnic hypnotic quality about it , but with some added dynamics by toby who edits it for maximum dancefloor reaction

brandon johnson, the artist known as tridact, has been putting together his mix of analog electronics and beats for some time. growing up in and around santa barbara, california, he has recently traded the beaches and foothills of southern california to move to the forests and mountains of southern oregon. after participating in various bands and other musical projects in santa barbara, he bought a simple setup consisting of a midi sequencer, a sampler and a couple of vintage synthesizers and began creating his own electronic music. over time he built up a small studio and added some live instrumentation into the mix. in the late 2000s, he began posting some of his tracks online, eventually leading to his first release, >light minute<, on the synchronicity suite compilation on moodgadget records, alongside artists such as wisp and mux mool. the track was later re-released on ghostly internationals nocturnal suite compilation. on tridact’s debut album on prins thomas internasjonal label, he creates an eclectic blend of densely layered, melodic, song-oriented instrumental tracks which combine analog synthesizers, guitars and programmed beats. the album draws from influences ranging from 60s pop to disco, house, techno and breakbeat to make a sound that reflects a distinctly pacific coast experience. from the new tridact album (intcd0002) we have cherry picked these tracks for a exclusive vinyl edition spread over 1 12 inch and a 7 inch.

rather lightweight live album, only thirty four minutes long, three songs and some painful applause herding for an encore. the line-up is essentially the girls line-up, though john g. perry s been replaced by an also-excellent mike wedgwood. the production is clear but the mix misjudged: the admittedly nicely brought out bass sound dwarfs all other elements. in particular, pye hastings guitar is very low, the drums never seem to match the bass volume.

so, your bowels have just about started functioning properly and the world has finally stopped vibrating after the last bass onslaught from the sludge camp. its going to require gonads of steel to whack up the volume on this latest beast, but we know you never lost your hardcore. nevertheless, as we are a caring bunch at sludge hq, we feel obliged to warn in advance that this latest slab of dubstep pressure from trick or treat is the sort of big tuna that might leave some needing a job lot of nappies and a year off work to recover.

last year, we here at mexican summer came under the spell of the starry kaplan sisters: piper and skylar, and their band pearl harbor, who graced the land with their beautific something about the chapparrals ep. funny how time flies for the beyond their year siblings, as its suddenly 2011 and pearl harbor now goes by the name of puro instinct. now piper and sky find themselves bolstered by four other bandmates: cody porter, jessie clavin, mike baum, and crazy murray to make their hazy, swirling pop even more realized and sumptuous.

the excitement that percolates inside us when days start to get longer, the weather gets warmer, knowing summers just around the corner, has always had an instant gratification effect. hailing from the beautiful island of mallorca is dj / producer kiko navarro, a mainstay in the dance world on the party island of ibiza, had a residency at the world-famous club pacha, has done numerous productions for nite grooves / king street. he now comes back on board remixing, re-working, and re-editing some of the best well known, brand new tunes in the catalog, giving this comp a beautiful balaeric flow.

nachdem die gruppe 1973 von ihrem sommerurlaub zurückgekehrt war, widmeten sich benny andersson und björn ulvaeus der komposition neuer lieder. der erste song, der in diesen sessions aufgenommen wurde, war dance (while the music still goes on), welcher sehr von den aufnahmen von phil spector inspiriert war. es folgten im oktober die aufnahmen für my mama said, honey honey, what about livingstone und suzy-hang-around. im november wurde lediglich der king kong song aufgenommen, der später von vielen fans als „der albernste song, den die band jemals produziert hat“ bezeichnet wurde.
